Topic: Game Play.

Talk about how you're doing in the game, how far along you are, and how great you think you are by completing ceritain tasks and beating enemies in interesting ways.

I just finished beating Hard mode, I'm going to play easy mode over again, using no weapon at all, only my unprotected fist. (I'll still use clothes and souls.)

Finished the game, and starting out Hard mode. I'm currently busy with Julius mode, because playing as Alucard rocks my socks (or something). Still having a tough time getting 9 Great Axe Armor souls in the normal game, though.

I know Alucard is awesome! Using nothing but punches is getting annoying. I'm about to face puppet master again. I'm debating of starting over and using weapons. But then I guess that would defeat the purpose of the challange.

Yeah, Puppet Master wasn't as hard as I thought, it just took a little while too deal enough damage to use the seal. I fought Rahab or what ever his name is. Now I'm off to the Towers.

I'm on Julius Mode, on Puppet Master. In New Game Plus I'm on Paranoia. ^_^:;;

On my other one I Succubus-glitched a ton.

Ugh.... I hate fighting bosses on Julius mode.

I fought Gergoth... Three or four more hits and I would have won, but then it shoots me with its beam and kills me (couldn't escape or heal in time). I was at near full health. It was first time I died one my new fists only file. grr...

What level where you at on your fight with Gergoth?

Since in Julius mode you don't have the convenience of using healing items, you have to either play it old school (memorice the boss's pattern) or level up a lot.

Anyway, I was at level 40 when I fought Gergoth (I'm a level up maniac, I think I've found every easy level up area in the game), and I found that the best character to beat him with was Julius using the holy water.

Actually, most of the bosses will go down to Julius, but some are better fought with other characters, for example:

Paranoia: Alucard all the way (also level 55 made it easier)

Abbadon: Yoko and her ice spell will take him down fast.

And so fort.

I was low 20's or something. I beat him again the next time with ease. Now for my least favorite place in the game Cursed Clock Tower.

Why is that? Don't tell me you don't have the tombstone soul to prevent being petrified? Also a good guardian like the Bat soul or the quetzalcoatl will help you make that area a lot easier. You can also clean a lot of room out of medusa heads using Gergoth's soul.

I personally like the cursed clock tower, it's fun to kill medusa heads.

That is exactly why. So that's what tombstones do, thats cool. I hate Medusa Heads. I use Death against them sometimes. I hate Imps, they also receive the wrath or Death. Fist Vs. Flying Ememies is annoying.

Normal game - Still trying to 100% all souls for the Chaos Ring.

I don't like the towers. Not only the area is dull, there's Gergoth at the end...

Current stats:

Trying to get a 100% of souls on my main game (at last! I finally got the creature's soul yesterday!).

Finished Julius mode last week... Soma kicked my butt about 15 times...

Well I like the First tower with Gergoth, it's not my favorite but I still like it... I just still hate the Cursed Clock Tower, especially in hard mode.

Current Stats:

Normal: Trying to get through no weapon easy mode as fast as I can, going to go beat Aguni now.

Julius: at the save spot right before Gergoth.

Question: Doesn't luck increase chances of getting a soul? I equipped a lv.9 Ghost Dancer soul, Soul eater ring, and Three 7's shirt but it still takes long. Just wondering if luck has an effect or not.

And BTW Kojay, I'm also at the save point before Gergoth in Julius mode. That big... phallic-with-teeth thing keeps kicking my **.

I only have 5 Persephone souls, I'll try to get 4 more just to see the little Persephone. I only have one Alura Une soul, for some reason the game feels I shouldn't get too many of them. However, her soul is quite fun to use, she pops out of the ground behind Soma's back and kind of starts kissing his neck while using her vines to swap anything that approaches. The bad part is that you can't move, but if you pair it with the creature's soul which heals you, you can get about 100 Hp's back just standing there while Alura kills all that comes near.

Yes, luck does increase your chances of getting souls, but I found that Dracula's tunic/cape works better than the Three 7's shirt for some reason (this item is in one of the rooms in the number puzzle of the demon guest house, but I guess you knew that). Also, the Flying humanoid soul increases luck and intelligence and pairing it with the ghost dancerX9 kind of improves the effect. Killing the opponents fast (1 or 2 hits) and using the soul eater ring helps too.

As for Gergoth in Julius mode, two hints I hope will help:

1. Use a Julius/Yoko combo like this: Whip, Holy water, duck under Gergoth and whip, back dash and use holy water, and so fort. Switch to Yoko when you can and use the lightning spell once or twice (deals about 90-180 depending on your level), then go back to Julius and repeat. That's how I kill it.

2. Level up, in Julius mode you have to level up more than in Soma's regular game, and even if you don't see a big increase in the damage your characters do, 2 or 3 points of added defense are always a very good thing and can make a difference.

A Creature Soul once Equiped heals you. You get like one hp every second or something. I on't have one may self but I saw my friend playing his and he was gaining one hp every second with that soul equiped. It's an enchant. And thanks for all the info Dr. And you know what sucks. I beat Abaddon, and got so close to the save point right before Menace, I died. And stupid me didn't go back to the save point before Abaddon, so now I'll have to fight him again. and I lost two or three really good souls.

I beat my Weapon-less Easy mode finally. Beat it yesturday. Now just finished beating Zepher on easy mode again. This time I'm trying to get all souls. and maybe level 99.

Cool that you finished it no weapons, I bet Menace was a hard boss fight while fighting him with literally zero range, huh?

I'm still trying to get 100% souls on my main game, I won't start a new game plus until I've got it.

I'm leveling up to level 99 on Julius mode.

Trying to finish Boss rush mode in under 6 minutes.

His first "form" was a pain, but the second "form" was relatively easy. It was no weapon, but I still used souls. Still that took me a while. I'm already At death on my new file. 92 something % soul wise. The Creature and Procel are the ones I'm having issues with, I wish you could keep souls Like Procel, Mud Demon, and Black Panther.

Can't beat boss rush in under 6 minutes? Heares what I use it may help. Weapon: Death's Scythe, Body: Dracula's Tunic, Accessory: Megingiord, Bullet:Amalaric Sniper Lv 9, Guardian: Bat Company, Enchant: Dead Crusader. I beat it in less than 6 minutes, yet more than 5. I'm hoping when I get Hypogryph and black panther again I will be able to speed up my times.

*UPDATE*: I collected 100% souls today! AND Beat Boss Rush in Under 5 minutes!(I also finished getting the most powerful weapon in each catagory, but it's not as cool)

Here is what I used to do so(Boss Rush)(if you need help).

Weapon: Death's Scythe, Body: Dracula's Tunic, Accessory: Chaos Ring, Bullet: Hell Fire, Guardian: Black Panther, Enchant: Golem Lv 6.

wow... that kicks **! i'm still at 73% souls in the normal game, and the fastest I beat BRM is 7 minutes. Congrats!

I've played through 4 times, including the one I have going now. Here's some more advice for BRM. Try to go as long as you can w/o using the little healing orbs that the Bosses drop.

I've managed to get 6 minutes 5 seconds so far, soon I'll get a record of under five minutes in BRM, I just know it.

I'm at 88% of souls collected.

My Julius mode is at level 79, and Soma is still a challenge.

Same here. I'm at Lv. 26 in Julius mode and just entering the Cursed Clock Tower. Contrary to popular GameFAQS.com opinion, you don't need to be at Lv. 30 just to have a chance of beating that phallic-with-teeth Gergoth. Just abuse Julius' Holy Cross Itemcrash (The cross that looks surrounded by fire).

It's not that hard to level up in Julius mode if you know where to go and use Yoko and Julius Special attacks; Garden of Madness and the Towers are very good places to level up early on.

You know, I could never beat Gergoth using the Holy Cross item crash, it always left me vulnerable, since it has a very slow recovery rate. It's cool that it worked for you though, how did you do it?

Just a little skill... okay, a lot of sliding and crouch-whip skills, and a lot of luck. Basically, it's all about taking advantage of the invicibility that comes with the Itemcrash.

I got super lucky when I used that strategy on Gergoth. I finished the battle with about 25 HP remaining.

Just one important tip: When activating the Itemcrash, there is a brief moment where you are completely vulnerable. Watch out for it.

I know what you mean, the holy cross item crash leaves you open after using it, it's got a very slow recovery rate and that's why I don't use it. I mean, it's powerful, but you have to be very skilled to use it properly. It's useful against Malphas and it gives Death lots of pain when it's throwing those chomping giant skulls at you (you know, its second form most annoying attack), but other than that I rather not use it. I think Yoko's spells were a better substitute and have better range.

aww c'mon, you finished the game using only a fist! don't give up. Try abusing the Yoko's Thunder spell or try your hand at the Julius' Flaming Holy Cross strategy. Or if you're really bored, just point and laugh at Gergoth when you inspect his character design CLOSELY.

But I found some of the strategies they used against certain bosses (mostly the ones for Malphas, Demitri, Death and Soma) were useless.

That very fact is what I love about Julius mode: not having healing items, diverse weapons or armor, brings me back to the good old days of Castlevania when you got nothing but one, if that, healing item during a stage, and you couldn't use it when you wanted.

But like Edge said, Yoko's thunder spell is great for some easy damage on Gergoth, as well as Julius' holy water attack. The best advice I can give you is to level up more, though. How much of the map have you completed in J. mode? Have you tried to level up in the Demon Guest House entering by the hidden Lost Village door that leads there?

And Edge, you're correct. Gergoth's design IS creepy for several reasons, that thing's so phallic right down to its 'white beam' attack that I'm still wondering why Konami didn't get sued yet.

Getting all souls is fun again for me! Thanks to the Black Panther soul. I can't believe I went through the game without that walk-speed increaser! Yay!

And as for Julius Mode... I discovered that beating Gergoth too early will result in you getting your ** kicked by spikes in Cursed Clock Tower. So I went back to the Condemned Tower to train. Hehehe...

Just to let you in on a little and sad secret... you lose the Black Panther soul as soon as you start a new game. just as you would the procel or mud demon soul. The Black Panther can increase the distance and height of a single jump, so it would allow you to get to new places too early.

Has anyone killed a Final guard in 3 hits or less? I can't get his soul and since I've learned that killing enemies fast increases the chance they drop their souls, it would be great if you could share your techniques.

ohhhh my sweet black panther!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! *cries*

and the fastest I've killed a final guard is 1 Abaddon cast and about 5 swings with my Golden Axe. I've gotten his soul twice thanks to the speed that the Black Panther gives. Makes the proces less tedious.

About the ability souls, yes, it sucks that you can't keep some of the best souls in a new game plus. I don't use black panther that much, but it's a very useful soul.

On my very first file I was able to kill them in 2 to 3 hits with my death scythe and I was level 70. But that didn't incress the amount of soul I obtained. Funny thing is on my no weapon fist only file, I was able to get a Final Guard soul. using my fists that took about 20 hit or so.

20 hits? With or without a Guardian soul? Hell that would be tedious either way.

And usually its just lucky when you get the Final Guard soul. I think your percentage chance of getting a soul increases with the # of times you've killed that enemy. Which is why i like Black Panther.

Got the Final Guard soul at last! Ha, it was about time too!

Now I just have to get an Iron Golem and zombie souls (can you believe I don't have one yet? I've killed hundreds of those things and the game won't let me have it!) and that's it! 100% of souls.

Zombie soul? I believe I've gotten over 50 of those. So I used it to convert Brass Knux to Cestuses and sold it for cash. Lolz.

I don't think it's glitchy. I used the succubus glitch once, though. Anyway, I finally got a zombie soul, and once I did, they started dropping it like crazy! I just wish it was that easy for the iron golem soul...
