Topic: Noticably Quotable..
You may have noticed the quoting tangent that takes place at the end of every chapter of "Chasing the Dragon". Thus the challenge, you think you know where they came from? I encourage you to let your knowledge flow forth - and then I'll tell you if you're right. Include the quote in your answer to avoid confusion.

Hello ^__^

Well, I think the quote from chapter 13,

"One trick ahead of disaster, they're quick, but I'm much faster.

Here goes, better throw my hand in, wish me happy landings,

All I gotta do is,

Jump..."

is out of a song from Disney's Aladdin

"One Jump Ahead"

*loves the movie*

*sadly has only the German video of it*

And the quote from chapter 9,

"Badabababa... I'm Lovin' It."

Isn't that from a McDonalds advertising? o.o

(at least we got something similar here in Germany~)

Chapter 9:

"I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts..." is from a song in the Lion King.

Chapter 10:

"Welcome to the Caribbean, Love..." Captain Jack Sparrow, Pirates of the Caribbean

Chapter 24:

"Captain Jack is Back." Trailor for Pirates of the Caribbean II

Okay...I think I got them right....

All perfectly spot on thus far, you guys seem up to the challenge but there's plenty more where they came from =P

Chapter 4: "What's tater's precious? What's taters?" - Smeagle/Gollum from Lord of the Rings? Because he’s the only one I know who’d say “precious”… and speak like that…

…chapter 18 doesn’t have a quote!

I recognize a lot, I think, but I don’t remember where from… I was so tempted to google them, but that would ruin all the fun.

#5 Feb 26th 2006, 10:19am
Cathy-Bloom1
Absolutely correct, chapter 4 is from Gollum and chapter 18 was sadly, missing a quote. Perhaps I'll go back and add one.. Ooh, I believe I have the perfect one.

Enjoy trying to figure out where the others come from - they're certainly "diverse".

^.^; This is just random guessing...

Chapter 6:

"Feeeeeed me."

Little Shop of Horrors? ("Feeed me, Seymour...")

Chapter 8:

"Skittles!"

Taste the Rainbow?

Chapter 12:

"I saw this picture of Johnny with his bandanna and dreadlocks and he just looked so cool and here I look like a bloody ice cream.."

I'm gonna go out of my way and say this is either another actor's quote (like Orlando Bloom), or maybe a personal friend of yours...

Chapter 15:

'Shot through the heart – and you're to blame. Darlin' you give love a bad name.'

Bon Jovi! You Give Love A Bad Name. ^.^;

Chapter 17:

'We have normality. I repeat, we have normality. Anything you still can't cope with is therefore your own problem.'

That sounds like something from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series... Just a guess, mind you. ^.^;

Chapter 21:

Um... Either from Son-In-Law or... damn, is it called Jury Duty? Er, I'm pretty sure it was a Pauly Shore movie... ^.^;

Heh. Again -just random guessing... ^_^;

Annnd the guessing begins =P

-

Chapter 6:

Nice job Captain! Correct.

Chapter 8:

Another big tick.

Chapter 12:

I think that's as close as anyones likely to get on this one so I give you a highly commendable effort. This one was courtesy of the lovely Mr. Jack Davenport, better known as Commodore Norrington and can be found in the special features on the Pirates of the Caribbean:Curse of the Black Pearl DVD.

Chapter 15:

Another correct answer - who could pass up a bit of Bon Jovi quotage?

Chapter 17:

Annnnd Bingo was his name-o. Through the hazy fields of my mind I believe this was from the first book, gotta love Douglas Adams.

Chapter 21:

Closer.. or well not really, but no banana! I'm gonna leave this one up for grabs I think. =P

Over all a rather good effort I have to say..

Chapter 21:

"It's a rock. I can't wait to tell my friends. They don't have a rock this big."

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER!! Right? Am I right? Cause this has been bugging me for a while now (since it sounds so BLOODY familiar!) and I have odd Buffy quotes echoing in my head every time I think about it, for some odd reason...

"What are you doing here? Five words or less."

"*ticking off on his fingers* Out. For. A. Walk. *pause* **."

Heheheh. Snarky vampire... ^_^;;

-cackles- Ahh yes, perfectly right. It was Spike - my reason for watching Buffy. Second season if I recall, with Evil!Angel and the demon Acathla. Ahh the days with Spike in a wheelchair.. I'm getting all teary-eyed just remembering.

Consider that another quote noticed.

Sorry I didn't put the chapters, I just randomly grabbed things out. The first one is from Chapter two I think though...

"It was a one-eyed, one-horned, flying purple people eater!"

-H.R. Puffinstuff, right? Sadly enough, I know that because of my mom… X_X No wait, she now says it was from some inane song. Either one’s my guess!

“Don't you try to out weird me – I get stranger things then you free with my breakfast cereal.”

-Erm… Crap, I know I know that one! It just won’t come to me! Well, I guess it’s safe to say my friends have said it at one time or another.

“I'll have you hung, drawn, and quartered! And whipped! And boiled.. Until.. Until.. Until you've had enough. And then - I will do it again! And when I've finished I will take all the little bits, and I will JUMP on them! And I will carry on jumping on them until I get blisters, or I can think of anything even more unpleasant to do.”

-Well I know this one, it’s from Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galexy! I’m pretty sure it’s when the vogan ships come and everyone’s running and screaming and Arthur is oblivious as always. Ah, good old Arthur Dent…

...That's sad, only three. Ah well, at least I tried!

#11 Feb 28th 2006, 5:09pm

Haha, the one-eyed one-horned flying purple eater? That was from some infuriating childrens song that I believe goes by the same name as those lyrics. I have vivid memories of my primary school teacher making us sing it while she strummed and slapped her guitar. Anyone else have one of those strum-and-slappers? I think they're the generic primary school-teacher type..

Your second one, if you glance lazily down at your third answer and think hard about it with the letters Z and B in mind you might just have your answer =P

Third one, right on the mark. You'll find several of the quotes happen to come from the Hitchhiker's series.. Douglas Adams is to be worshipped.

Zaphod Beeblebrox? Hmm... yeah, I could see him saying that

And Douglas Adams DOES deserve to be worshiped, he's hillarious.

Well self, do you think that perhaps your quoting tangent got a tad too obscure for your faithful audience..?

..Nah

That sounds like a CHALLENGE!

... Damn it, why does that always work? Someone mentions something, my pride goes "oi!", and all of a sudden I have this perverse need to attempt to guess the rest of the quotes. Cathy-Bloom, dear, you're solely responsible for the development of my moral fibre. (HAH!) ^_^

3. "We all drank of the Snapple." I hate that actually watching this episode again had to remind me, but... Michael from Roswell. *sheepish grin*

5. "... Hungry?" Why wait? Grab a Snickers.

7. "Feed me lots of sugar..." Everyone who wrote a fanfic at least once in their lifetime?... *shrugs* Eh. I tried.

11. "Welcome to the Caribbean, luv." Captain Jack Sparrow! To Elizabeth, on the island in which those swarthy mutineers marooned them. (... I watch that movie entirely too much...)

14. "Hail Lord Ilpalazzo!"...*blinks* Excel?...

18. "Sex is like a gun You aim, you shoot, You run." ...when you're splittin' hairs with Mr. Clean it's like getting head from a guillotine! ^_^ Shut Up And Dance by Aerosmith.

20. "Unite for Justice! Support B'OD!" This guess is probably WAY out there, but I think it's... and advertisement for the body spray for men? Get Bod... (Told you it was farfetched. ^.^;;)

22. "Ah!The monkey's been shot! Poor little bugger..." Orlando Bloom in Ned Kelly!

23. “We wanna go out and play on our own because when you're an opening band, people throw things at you. I don't mind when somebody who loves my band throws a shoe at me, ya know, because it's with love..” John Rzeznick is such a funny man... with an equally funny last name. ^.^ "I hate cheese! You know why I hate cheese? Because it's glue in the colon. A man can't make love with a sticky colon." Ah, a man after my own heart...

25. "Captain Jack is Back." A trailer for Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest; a movie in which I am eagerly awaiting... ^_^

26. "How one man can wear that much gold brocade and not legally be classed as a madigra float .. I honestly don't know." ... *shrugs* Well, I'm stumped. Are you sure that's not supposed to say "Mardi Gras float"? It would make more sense to me, even if I'm drawing a blank. *grins sheepishly*

27. "Turn it up loud, captain!" ... Vertigo by U2? It's only ironic because that's the song that's playing on my mediaplayer now. *grins*

28. "Welcome aboard the Good Ship **-Kisser, nice day for a sail. Pucker up, me hearties." You would watch House. Such a snarky, unconventional MD... Heheheh.

29. "For the past seven years I have done nothing but travel around the world getting shot up, locked up, blown up... And all I have to show for it are a couple of empty rolls of duct tape." MACGYVER! *sighs* Man, things just haven't been the same on Stargate:SG-1 since O'Neill left...

I'm not expecting perfection here... but a hearty clap on the back and a "Good job, Capricious! Here's a cookie!" wouldn't go amiss. *grins sheepishly*

-glances at cue-card-

Good job, Capricious.

-Eyes her desolate Cookie Jar and scrapes out the crumbs-

Er.. Have some Cookie mush.. ^_^

(It's all the rage here in Kiwiland.. Really.. I'm not just being cheap..)

I see that I'm not the only one who has that stubborn desire to prove others wrong when they presume to tell me I can't do something.. My physio nearly had a heart-attack when he figured out how to motivate me.. That smarmy bastard.

3. -sniggers- the Great Snapple Caper! My favourite of all the Roswell episodes, ahh I miss Michael.

5. I could really go for a Snickers right about now.. They're like an ice-cream sundae in a bar.. minus the icecream.. which really makes that analogy redundant.

7. All too true unfortunately.. It was highly unoriginal =P

11. You can't watch this movie too many times. Until you can recite the script and hum the proper musical score the entire way through, I think you're safe. Or so I keep telling myself..

14. Ahh yes.. Excel Saga. If all anime was conceived from Crack they found a whole NEW recipe when they concocted *that*.

18. -sniggers- We loves Steve Tyler, yes we do.

20. Waha! This is the one area that you did not succeed in.. Though it's not surprising since the vast majority of the earth would have NO idea what I was talking about.. B'OD being the acronym of "Brian O'Driscoll" - the best Rugby Center in the world.. I got a tad worked up over a certain "SpearGate" incident. -coughs-

22. Ahh.. Loved that movie.. "I am the wonderfull Ned Kelly, and this is the fabulous Joe Byrne and we'd like to join your circus."

23. -grins- My love affair with Johnny Rzeznik has been discovered.. The man is hilarious.

25. Those trailers only serve to feed my desire for MORE Jack.

26. Er.. I hereby proclaim that I'm not a scary stalker of Jack Davenport and that my interest in him is purely physical.. I mean, purely for entertainment value. This time he was referring to his *own* character's wardrobe in PotC as Commodore Norrington. *lovely* brocade action..

27. Haha.. Yes, of the many many U2 songs on my media-player, "Vertigo" is apparently the most played. The name Bono makes me giggle..

28. Oh HOW I do love House.. Snarky snark. ^_^

29. MACGYVER! I like to indulge in my MacGyver every now and again.. Just be glad I haven't resorted to throwing Hoff!Moments in yet.. Can't believe they're still playing re-runs of Knight Rider!

Well done, well done!

I'm quite undone.

New quote, new quote.. Falalala..

For some reason it brings me overwhelming joy to know that, once again, there is still a question hovering over one of my quotes (even though this is due to time rather than my own cleverness.)

I don't expect it to last long, because really.. It's not all that obscure..

Hmm.. I'm rambling to myself on a forum.. Oh well.

New quote, new quote.. =D

Chapter 30

"I do not mean to pry, but you don't by any chance happen to have six fingers on your right hand?"

"Do you always begin conversations this way?"

Damn.. I've been foiled once again. But don't worry, no, no! Don't you worry! I've been spending too much time inside Seto's headspace to let.. multiple defeats.. beat me. -snort- Maybe I should try on Yuugi's mind-set for a change, then I might actually *win*. But wait.. When did this turn into a competition?

Oh right, my Alter-Ego reminds me that *I* turned it into a competition.

Anywho.. Rodents of Unusual Size anyone? They make *lovely* kebabs. No? Well I suppose I *could* part with a cookie or two to the winner..

-

Miracle Max: He probably owes you money huh? I'll ask him.

Inigo Montoya: He's dead. He can't talk.

Miracle Max: Whoo-hoo-hoo, look who knows so much. It just so happens that your friend here is only MOSTLY dead. There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive. With all dead, well, with all dead there's usually only one thing you can do.

Inigo Montoya: What's that?

Miracle Max: Go through his clothes and look for loose change.

-

Oh how I DO love that movie..

Haha.. I suddenly realized that I am STILL on top. No-one, (as far as I am aware of) has discovered the origins of quote #24.
