brynnamorganTopic: Story Submission Guidelines - READ FIRST! The "Other Character" or OC must be:Well-rounded, interesting, have some flaws and in general several steps outside of usual OC general "ughness" that is prevalent in fan fiction. There has to be a good reason why House would fall in love with her, or want to be her daddy, or want to adopt her, and so on. Self-inserts are generally not welcome unless it's a self-insert that isn't obvious. In other words, no having House or Wilson mooning over college-age girls. I can guarantee that concept won't make it here. :-) The story must be well-written, with great dialogue, motivation, good grammar and spelling (spellchecker IS your friend!). If you know nothing about medicine then either research or keep the medical references and situations to a minimum. These guidelines will change as I have more caffeine and time to think on them but that covers the basics for now. Questions? :-) |

PeppermintRakkyI have a House fanfic called "Finding Daddy"(title that, if anyone is interested, came when I was almost asleep and seeing "Finding Neverland" and "House, M.D" at the same time). It probably is a little sloopy in the begining(since it only has 5 chapters, it's all begining), because I'm not American or English or Irish or Australian or of any other nationality in which the mother language is English. But I have some good reasons for the why my fic should enter in the C2:1: Ray isn't Mary Sueish, or at least I tried very hard to prevent that 2: House isn't OOC(but Cameron probably is), and he doesn't accept Ray right away 3: I have to go away, but read it and see! | #2 Feb 10th 2006, 11:48am

brynnamorganI went and read the fic - here's what I am thinking could improve it. :-)Cameron is too OOC - she wouldn't confide in a teenaged girl like that. I'm assuming Ray would have more backstory. She's a bit Mary Sue-ish; the fact that Cameron confides in her reveals it. You desperately need an editor. We call them beta-readers. Someone who is a stickler for strong English, grammar, spelling, and knows the show inside and out. They'll point out your mistakes and make suggestions. They're INVALUABLE. The reason I am suggesting all of this is because I think you have a strong storyline buried in there and with development would make a great read. You may even have to take the story down while editing - and that's fine, too. Or even reupload the documents and replace the first chapters as you go. Get it edited, cleaned up and get back with me, cause I think you've got something there. :-) |

AllThatGlittersIsGoldWell, I have a fic going on so far, 'Hard for Me'...somebody once called it Mary-Sueish (I really don't know what that means) but i think it matches you little 'criteria' because:1) I tried extremely hard not to make it fluffy and unrealistic 2) I work on my spelling on grammar- though the first few chapters i kept changing tense 3) Kimee has some real depth (I think) and she's kind of damaged, though you don't get that at first, and you have to really look for my subtle hints, though one day her story will be told 4) I can't think of another reason... What does OOC mean? I don't really get that little abbreviation |

WuHaoNi*tenatively raises hand* Um, I have a story called "The Rival Teams" that I am interested in submitting to the C2 category. It's still in-progress, but I have tried very hard not to make my doctor into becoming a Mary Sue. Read and see if it's worthy! |

brynnamorganSorry for being so late in reply.OOC means "Out of Character." It's a pet peeve of mine. A "Mary Sue" is an Other Female Character that is basically too perfect, too damaged, too perky, knows the answer to everything, graduated the head of her class, has all the solutions, is loved by everyone. Sometimes called a "self-insert" in that the author has inserted herself into the storyline. A lot of younger House fans do this by writing themselves as Cameron's younger sister or cousin, House's long-lost daughter, that sort of thing. Another pet peeve of mine, although I've read a couple that were decent. | #6 Aug 08th 2006, 11:44pm

She's not House's romantic interest (guilty as charged on my end *g*), she's not perfect or anything like that. I think you could work on your sentence structure and such, but I added it anyway. Might want to grab yourself a beta-reader to go over it and offer you some suggestions. :-) | #7 Aug 08th 2006, 11:47pm

LANIKIHi! Since I love House/OC stories, I searched for a community that featured those which lead me to you. I am in the process of writing a story called "House and the Cop." It's up to chapter 30 right now. It's my first fan fiction and I think it's pretty good. If you get a chance, please look it over and see if you'd like to add it to your list. Thanks for the list. I'm looking forward to checking out some of the stories on it. |
