White Rabbit TaleTopic: Neither? This is completely based on the my point of view of how the AUTHOR feels, and has nothing whatsoever to do with how I think YOU should feel or how the actual characters feel.I spent about an hour this afternoon looking at interviews with Watsuki...and I've come to a rather alarming conclusion. To be honest, I don't think Watsuki wanted Kenshin to end up with either of them. Tomoe, obviously, died and therefore couldn't end up with Kenshin. But Kaoru...well, now you're thinking "what's she on about? Of course Kenshin and Kaoru were supposed to end up together!" I don't think so. Why? Let's see...maybe because he had first planned for Kaoru to "suffer the pain of rejection" (i.e. she would be dumped by Kenshin). The only reason they ended up together was because the manga continued way past what Watsuki had thought and by then, had Kenshin dumped her, he would have seemed like a total **. Not to mention the fact that Watsuki was going to kill Kaoru. I really think he still wanted to do it, but didn't because he liked happy endings too much. Kenshin/Kaoru was very close to never happening...I think it was really a act of the fans that made them get together. It's wonderful, of course, that Rurouni Kenshin got to continue on as much as it did, but I think in some ways the continuation that Watsuki had not been expecting sort of forced him to do a few things that he hadn't originally planned. Oh well. I suppose, in many of your points of views, that it all worked out for the best. |
