KyerTopic: Gridlock Okay, I've not actually seen any of Season Three except for some of which has been put up on YouTube, but this was interesting. There have been rumors for quite awhile now that the Face of Boe's last words (the secret he would reveal to a 'traveler') would be "you are not alone" which I personally took to mean that there were other Time Lords who survived the Time War. Here's the problem: The Face of Boe actually says just a couple of sentences before that that "I am the last of my kind, as you are the last of yours, Doctor." Then he says "Know this, Time Lord, you are not alone." His dying statement. Now since the Doctor is the last of 'his kind', then what exactly did TFOB mean that he wasn't alone? Maybe a better question would be what did he mean by 'kind'? If 'kind' meant 'species', then the Doctor IS the last of the Gallifreyans and no others survived. But if he meant 'kind' as 'Time Lord', then it could be that there is another Time Lord out there who is not Gallifreyan. Unless it is a totally new character or species, it could be that this Lord of Time is Jack Harkness (Torchwood) which would add to the mystery of the last First Season episode of that show (get to that in a moment), or it could be Rose (who was The Bad Wolf and was impermeated by part of the Time Vortex? If Jack, then maybe that Tardis sound (and his subsequent disappearing act) could have been either the Doctor picking him up, or... a rogue surviving Tardis recognizing his signature as a 'more than mortal' time traveler? Then again, it could just be that 'kind' refers to his being the last true champion of Time as it were, but that seems unlikely as it's just too mundane for Doctor Who and a poor secret to keep as such for so long. It's got to be more, surely? Like: Or it could just be that the Doctor is not alone because he has companions like Martha to keep him company. Or it could mean that the Doctor has a child (who if born to a human would be one-quarter Gallifreyan and thus not strictly a Gallifreyan thus justifying the Last of the Time Lords sentence. (Well, this last would be kind of exciting and with Tennant leaving soon the show is rapidly running out of Doctor regenerations should they decide to keep to the original canon of thirteen lives.) Any other ideas? | #1 Apr 18th 2007, 11:46am | |
