NitroviperTopic: Could I do some sensible rambling? Ok...here goes. I like killua and gon fanfiction, but my groove is soo thrown off when a killuaXgon fanfic shows up. The only decently written killua gon fanfiction on this site hasn't been updated in a year. I think Kurapica is depressing in a melodramatic way. I mean, he's so depressed about everything it isn't even funny. I hate it even more that people actually LIKE that. I'm a teenager. I get depressed, but I never take myself seriously, and I laugh at all this rebellious hard rock. It's ridiculous. Your life isn't that bad! I'm getting offtopic though.I've never liked Kurapica. There's a typical Kurapica type in every anime. There's Sasuke in naruto, who manages to be so "I'm cool. I've had a bad childhood. I like being moody and mysterious." Naruto is the main character, and, in my opinion, much better all-around than Sasuke. Just like Gon is WAY better in character. morals, and personality. Killua is mysterious and depressed and slightly cliched, but he smiles and has fun. I've run out of things to say here. I'm sorry if this is considered or taken or recieved as spam, but these issues bug me alot. |

Pan - The Wolf Made Of BreadNot spam. I'm happy someone decided to post. Now, in reply, I like every character in the show. (minus Kuroro and Neon, but I don't know why) Kurapika is depressed, yes. He had a bad past. He and Sasuke are very similar. But I don't like Sasuke. I like Kurapika, but not Sasuke. I don't know why. Sasuke is so.. "I'm too good for happiness." At least Kurapika smiles. Sasuke just complains about how he's so weak. But that's my opinion.. xD | #2 May 30th 2006, 10:26pm . Edited May 31st 2006, 11:09am | |

obsessed dreamerwow, i never thought of it that way. i've always been a sucker for brooding, tragic characters: Tokiya Mikagami of FoR, Nakago of FY, etc. i like sasuke but i'm not that much into him. Sasuke is so.. "I'm too good for happiness." as for kurapica, i don't see him as being "too much for happiness". as pan pointed out, he also smiles...laughs even, as well as playful. he did stick his ice cream on was it gon or killua's (?) head. it just so happened that the series showed more of his glum side for the sake of the story. of course that is just my opinion.i think kura really has just a serious personality who thinks a lot. and believe me, that always leads to episodes of depression. a tragic past can really make someone depressed especially if one is in the teen stage. but he laughs, i thinks that's what is important. |

Pan - The Wolf Made Of BreadExactly. I've seen Sasuke smirk, but only when he was getting his way. I've never seen Sasuke show a genuine smile of happiness, as if he thinks that he's too good for it. He's an egotistic jerk, and thinks that everyone else is below him.Kurapika, while having a similar past that included a massacre, doesn't let that form a mask over his personality. He quests for revenge, but he enjoys the time he spends doing that. Kurapika smiles, he laughs, he makes friends. He never puts himself above the people he calls friends. Although Sasuke eventually begins to accept the fact that there are other people around him, he still gives off the aura of "I'm better than you." |

Kawakami MisaI don't mean to insult you or anything, in the first note ^_^;;Erm, I don't think you would be able to be the oh-so-happy-me if you've gone through situations like Kurapika or Sasuke. They've gone through hard things, which I don't think you yet have. Well by the way I don't like Sasuke but I like Kurapika. I have pity for both though. Sasuke is too... errrmmmm (it takes me forever to find the right words) "i'm the best" ish but for Kurapika, at least the memory didn't affect his personality to become... bad evil. And I don't think he all so serious either. People are different and they have different perspectives, i guess. And once again, I'm not trying to offend you!! D: I just have a different way i view things ^_____________^ HAGS |

NitroviperNo offense taken at all. I know someone personally who went through a REALLY bad childhood, she does have a few problems interacting, but she still laughs and has fun and runs around. Sasuke and Kurapica are just little melodramatic plot devices designed to boost ratings in my opinion, |

Pan - The Wolf Made Of BreadWell, at leats both of them get some really cool moves at some point in the show. Ha! |

ArbitrarysterMaybe, but I don't think any of us have had our families be mass murdered. Frankly, I don't know how I'd respond if that happened. I can understand your hatred for the typical "emo" (you know, the person who gets depressed because their parents wouldn't let them go to the movies or something), but Kurapika's situation isn't typical. And I don't think Kurapika actually angsts over it that much. He tries his best to have normal relationships with people...but when he's near the Ryodan, of course he'd be more depressed. They're a reminder right in his face. And frankly, I don't like Killua x Gon relationships for similar reasons: people don't pull them off well. People write KilluaGon like your typical SasuNaru (where Sasuke hits on Naruto and they kiss and blahblahblah), which really ** me off. Also, I'd have to say there are reasons for Sasuke being more annoying than Kurapika: Itachi told Sasuke to get revenge. He basically ordered Sasuke to hate him, and Sasuke obeyed. The Ryodan, on the other hand, didn't care if Kurapika got revenge or not. In fact, they would've preferred it if Kurapika didn't get revenge. So Sasuke hates more. Fundamental difference. Thing is, if you've really been through that kind of past, I'd say you have some rights to emo. On the other hand, if you're a middle class kid with everything you need and your parents forbid you to do one thing...well, that's just pathetic. _ | #8 Apr 27th 2007, 10:47pm . Kent VonceKurapika is no melodramatic plot device. The fact that he would go out of his way to get Killua back means that Yoshihiro Togashi could've done away with the revenge part and made him a sad person for no adequately explored reason. He chose to give Kurapika a past with a story because the character deserved it. Just like the way Killua was a pro assassin. or Gon never really knew his real parents. or the fact that Leorio isn't really out for the money by being a hunter. Yoshihiro made Kurapika as a real character in the story. Frankly, most manga-ka don't care about ratings because they don't care if the story becomes an anime or not. Kurapika has fun too. He even jokes around sometimes. Kurapika was even the basis for a joke during the hunter exam in volume two. |
