Anyway, it's no secret I'm rooting for HISOKAxMACHI although I don't think it's odd! I think mine was one of the two fics you mentioned having this pair (or not) but I think I saw more than two.

GONxKARUTO is definitely odd because of the mere fact that nobody has done this angle yet. I was hoping for this ever since Karuto was shown in the Zoldick story arc but abandoned all hope when I found out that Karuto was male! But still, who knows? ^_^

Last but not least, KUROROxNEON! Now this pair I could definitely see some potential. They have a lot in common if you think about it, ne?

no offense to any Neon fans, but that girl gets on every single nerve I have. She's loud, spoiled, and there's no way in God's Green Earth will I ever support that.

Their personalities are way too different. I know people change, but Kurapika doesn't seem the type to fall in love with someone THAT bouncy. O_o;

WAY perfect that anyone would like. Described as having unbelievable personalities, perfect looks, and the ability to make any bishoujo or bishounen fall in love with them instantly.

Steer clear from those. They aren't fun. .

A Mary Sue can also be horribly depressed and instigate a pity party within the character cast. .

HisoMachi sounds cool, if you ask.

KuraLeo is like... GHEYY (sry fans) They might be really good friends but not a couple, honestly.

KuroKura, uhm, i know it's really popular but from my point of view it's not right, Kurapika detests the Ryodan doesn't he :O what do you ppl think? It's a great plot though, if someone falls in love with his/her most detested enemy

Basically I really want to stop seeing Kurapika as a female :d

KilluGon though, is one of the Yaois I think is cool (I HATE HATE HATE most yaois) :)

People generally don't like perfect characters, and prefer human flaws. Give them flaws, those same people call the character worthless.

Give the OC a personality, and people will call her a mary sue for having a good personality.

Give her a bad childhood, people call her a mary sue for that.

I yhave a huge problem with people like this. Especially about the last one. so what, are all people in the world that had bad childhoods mary-sues themselves?

the way I see it, people need to just accept an OC for what they are, unless they happen to be so bad that they are worth yelling about. It's unavoidable. A character will have at least one mary-sue characteristic, whether it was intended or not. Hell, one considered traight is that they're in a romantic relationship in the first place!

if that's the case then even characters from canon anime are mary sue's themselves! *points at kurapika*

i have to agree that the too perfect ones--can manke anyone fall in love with them, too pretty, etc, those mentioned by a poster--are the mary sues. the rest, i guess it doens't really matter as long as she fits in the story. it's cliche but you know what they say, "you can't please everyone".

@ RAM: well they can dream right? haha! taking it too far is another matter though except if it's a fic, lol! i'd take any OC as long as he/she FITS into the storyline and setting (which rarely ever happens *sigh*).

If anytihng most every character in the series is a Gary-Stu or a Mary-Sue. Seriously look at them, look at the criterion for Mary-Sue syndrome (which converts to MS syndrome and doesn't that fit the bill?)

not only in HxH but in other s as well actually, ^^; if they aren't that way, the story would no longer be as interesting wouldn't it? lol! but i actually know some people who are very similar of have such qualities so the seemingly "impossible personality" really ain't that farfetched. unless you're ruling out psychos, haha!

Anyway, the pairings I really like... LeoriexKuropiko and KilluaxGon, so far xD. I've just discovered the anime so I haven't gotten a chance to see the other characters yet. I would give anything to read an ongoing, IC fic with both or either of these pairings though. I haven't had much luck in finding them though.

Gon x Killua seems odd mainly because of their ages--they're probably too young to be involved romantically. Perhaps we all ought to wait 'till they hit their teens. :)

Kuroro x Kurapika is very much not possible, but I'm a sucker for this one. I guess since it is such a crack-ish pairing it needs more background to develop it into a viable story. And I'm all for that background.

Hisoka x Machi is quite amusing. But I also find there to be impending doom with this pairing--Hisoka probably would attempt to seek Machi when she resists, but once she accepts his romantic offerings, he'd probably move on. He'd more of a fleeting person, and so I'd have to feel sorry for Machi.

Kurapika x Leorio is possible, but I've never really thought of Leorio as gay. He seemed to be quite straight when he wanted to "feel up" that jailbird in the Hunter exam. And Kurapika's too revenge-oriented to be thinking about romance right now.

Kurapika and Neon: I can't see them together. No way in Hell.

Hisoka and Illumi: I support, just because they compliment each other.

Hisoka and Gon: well, I think the creators already established that our lovely magician is a pervert/pedophile. No doubt about that.

Kuroro and Kurapika: there's some light on this pairing, and I like it, only just for the fact that it's quite complex.

Kurapika and Leorio: Just... for the sake of shounen-ai, I guess.

Kuroro and Neon: WTF?! O_O

And the pairing that is my most favorite:

Killua and Gon: They are by far, THE pairing. In the later volumes of HxH, Killua shows how much he could care for Gon; how protective he is, despite the fact that he had failed Biske's condition. Later on, I hope he stays with Gon, really.

Although lately, I've been wondering about the chimera ants. ;p I rather like this pairing too--

Nefelpitou and Shauapufu. I do hope you guys know that they're both MALE. Pitou is sort of hard to tell, right? With his 'nyahing' in the manga, and his androgynous body. But I can tell. And Wikipedia can too. ;)

Well, I'd say that's not true. My reasons:

1) The inherent nature of a Mary-Sue is not *just* perfection. It's perfection in a manner that makes the stories boring, and it's an attempt for the author to live out his/her dreams through the Sue.

2) In HxH, despite many characters' power, I very much doubt that Togashi thinks that a perfect version of himself would be like any of them. Togashi created them to further the story along.

3) I've seen villain OCs (in fanfiction) that are really quite powerful, but they're not Mary-Sues. Why? Because 1) they're not that annoying and 2) the canon characters don't fall in love with them unrealistically. Therefore power != Mary-Sue. Rather power + perfection (good, moralistic qualities) + insert-author + annoyanceFactor = Mary-Sue

4) Many Mary-Sues are backed by romance. I don't see Gon and Killua falling for any member of the Ryodan or Zoldick family at first glance. No, rather, they take to hating them. In many fics with Mary-Sues in them, G+K fall for them without any background at all.

But on another note, I don't think HxH has the greatest character development. I mean with Killua, yes, you see some of it eventually. But looking at the first volume of HxH, you really don't get drawn in because 1) there's no character development, 2) there's not the most creative plot. In the second volume is where things really start to pick up with the plot (which I guess I care about more than character dev) with all those game theory twists.

you're right on that note, about mary sues attracting main charas too much, too soon. i easily get turned off when i see that happening. that's why i got i disappointed when a good fic with an OC in it got discontinued...she was definitely no mary sue *sigh*

Hm, pairings. There's only a few women in the series, so that cuts back on the possible pairings (I do not like slash of any kind), but there's still a few. MachixHisoka is interesting, but I admit I'm kind of partial to NobunagaxMachi (they're paired up often together and they were once assumed to be on a date), and HisokaxBiscuit.

I've also been interested in the KilluaxCanary pairing. For those of you who forgot, Canary is one of Killua's butlers.

The only one I could really ever see Kurapika with would be Melody. Of course, since Melody is ugly, that means no-one cares about her... still. Chalk me up for a MelodyxKurapika supporter.

*squeals and hugs Nobility* Yay! Another Kurapika/Senritsu(Melody) and Killua/Kanaria(Canary) fan! I absolutely ADORE those pairings! I can also see a bit of Kuroro/Pakunoda and Knov/Palm, but they need to be REALLY well done.
