Green the RioluTopic: /On Topic/ The anime...
Yeah, I know the Pokemon anime isn't that good, but it does have a few fans, (I myself am one of them) so I decided to make a thread about it. Here we talk about what we like/hate about the Pokemon anime, and how we think it could be better and what not. Ok, I've been a fan of the anime ever since it started, and havesaw nearly every ep. of it. But lately I've been watching it less and less. It started some time after the kanto Battle Frontier arch ended, and it started to go into the Dimond and Pearl arch started. At first it was ok, seeming like it was probably going to be a decent arch. And then, he showed up. As many of you probably can guess, saying I hate is an extreme understatement. I hate him. I mean, I really fucken hate him. The reason I hate him so much is because, not only is he an asshole, he's basically a fucken Gary Stu in my eyes! Take his battle in the Oreburgh gym. He used Chimpchar for most of the battle, clearly having a type disadvantage compaired to the rock Pokemon it was fighting. Yet, some how, it manages to beat every single one of them. Then, when it comes to fighting Ash, some how, even though Ash's Pokemon are clearly soppost to be on a higher level, he always loses to Paul's Pokemon... Pokemon he just recently caught! WTF!? I dought with his attitude (he says training Pokemon is pointless because they won't become any stronger... Which is a fucken lie!) he even bothered to train them. So how do they expect us to belive Pokemon he finds in the while are soppost to be magically stronger then anyone else's Pokemon? All I know is that if Paul somehow beats Ash in the Sinnoh Pokemon League, (because we all know that he's going to be in it) and somehow wins it all. That's it, I'm going to stop watching the Anime all together. Because apparently, they like Gary Stus more then they like the actual characters!! |
Shadow the Impaler...Remind me if I'm wrong, but didn't his Chimchar know Dig? And that in the game, if trained well enough, someone could beat Roark with Dig, even if there was a type disadvantage between thw two? And that in the anime, there has always been an upheaval of type-advantage? |
DtecnoKiraI find Villain Stus to spice things up a little If Ash doesn't have much of a challenge the plot starts to bore me, not that I watch anymore T T Ummm I must say I love the gym battles But dear God stop making Pikachu lose so MUCH just to spice things up, he's supposed to be one of Ash's strongest Pokemon for a reason And that in the game, if trained well enough, someone could beat Roark with Dig, even if there was a type disadvantage between thw two? But apparently Paul doesn't train? Oh and I love the gym battles Except when they use Thunder as armor and expect us to buy that And that in the anime, there has always been an upheaval of type-advantage? Aim for the horn! Yeah the game can let Pokemon with a type advantage sometimes take on things with a 20 Level advantage Hell in Yellow I managed to beat one of Giovanni's Pokemon with a burd I caught 5 minutes before I entered the gym. In the anime, being a few levels higher seems to negate type advantage. |
Thoughtless7Psssh, Paul has the same attitude of a good chunk of competitive trainers do: the nature/IV trainer. |
DtecnoKiraSome say he was meant to mimic that type of trainer some say he was meant to discourage that type of playing |
Shadow the ImpalerWord of God says he was made to make fun of them. |
DtecnoKiraOh so it's official? Wait, they're...making fun of their fans? Wow who knew Pokemon was such a mean series..... hmmmmm |
Shadow the ImpalerOh so it's official? Wait, they're...making fun of their fans? ... /facepalm They're making fun of Stop Having Fun Guys who play the series... |
DtecnoKiraI know ...but they're still fans It seems kind of risky Then again Pokemon could probably lose half its fanbase and still be a cash cow |
Azure ButterflyPokemon could probably lose half its fanbase and still be a cash cow Yeah, as long as they have me and my twenty figurines, twentysome games, and six plushies, I'd say they're good to go! Also, the competitive players seriously deserve it at times. With all the time I've interacted with them, they've been arrogant, bitchy, and stupidly conformist. (You use Pikachu? YOU STUPID DUMBFUCK ZAPDOS IS SO MUCH MOAR UBERER!!11) On the topic of the anime: 1) "Ash" does not act like Ash most of the time. Trust me, he's supposed to have the same personality as me, but he's been design-raped into the annoying, perfect, romantic thing we see today. He's not supposed to act like a normal, everyday kid. He's supposed to be an obsessive fanboy who freaks people out with his passion for the most ridiculous things. He's supposed to be creative (which we never see), and he's supposed to be sensitive (when's the last time we saw this in action?). He's supposed to collect things (look at his bedroom!) and be keen to fly into action. For those people who say "he's growing up!" he's not growing up in the right way. If he's say, fourteen, he should be as obsessive as ever and more withdrawn than he was as a ten-year-old. He should be shy and awkward in social situations. He shouldn't be the outgoing, perfect little idiot that he is now. Why? Because the whole point of his current characterization is to be an idol for the kiddies. No. I'm proud of who I am. I accept my faults and work on them. I'm proud to be passionate and creative. I work on being more outgoing, but I don't let my social shortcomings make me feel like crap. Now, watching the anime, I feel as though I'm doing something wrong. I'm not some perfect little social butterfly with hundreds of friends, and I'm not obsessive to the point where I can only focus on one thing, and one thing alone. So in essence, early Kanto Ash = me/Tajiri-san when we were younger, and current anime Ash = generic, perfect, boring main character. 2) Piplup is an annoying -insert four letter word here-. Potchama is fine, as its voice is actually quite cute. But the sheer mention of "PIIIHPLUP!" makes me want to kill someone. And I'm pretty passive. 3) Paul is a stupid douche. }:( (I seriously hope they make an ep where he's turned into a Pokemon and freaks the hell out, but seeing as how that's never going to happen...) 4) Chimchar is epic. Buoyzel is cool. Mamoswine is spunky and amusing, Grotle is adorable, and Croagunk is comedic genius. Pachirisu is awesomely spazzy and Happiny is at least somewhat useful. However, Staraptor was never really given a personality until it evolved, Ambipom was boring as its evolved form, Buneary's romance with Pikachu annoys me more than anything else, and Pikachu is pretty much devoid of the personality it had in the original series. So yeah. |
tsuki aoi usagiI'll always love Ash. I prefer his Kanto version than the rest of the other seasons, but I will always love him. But as far as Pauk vs. Ash thing goes...Ash is not allowed to win any sort of Pokemon League. If my memory serves me right, he has yet to win any, correct? Cause if he does win one, then he becomes the champion which kind of ends the series (they could continue it on...but it'd be kind of pointless ya know?). Thus meaning no money, which is not what the animators want. They are the farmers tat must keep the cash cow healthy and alive. |
Green the Riolu3) Paul is a stupid douche. }:( (I seriously hope they make an ep where he's turned into a Pokemon and freaks the hell out,) Better yet, turn him into a Pokemon under the care of a Trainer who abuses his Pokemon like he does, so he can see how it feels! }:3 Cause if he does win one, then he becomes the champion which kind of ends the series Now there is where people make a mistake. :/ Just because he wins a League doesn't make him a master, since there is still probably alot he could still learn. Winning one League does not a champion make. |
DtecnoKiraWait, I thought winning the League made you the champion of the league? Although yes, he could win and still have room to learn Speaking of those championships http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TournamentArc Pokémon basically revolved around the main protagonist trying to earn the right to enter a region's championship tournament with the actual tournament capping the Story Arc. Later with the introduction of a new type of competition called Pokémon Contests, the female protagonist has her own separate quest that leads up to a separate tournament. The tournament arcs, ironically, are extremely short when compared to similar shonen storylines, going for as little as six episodes. Considering that other anime have tournaments as side stories that can drag on for 20 episodes or more, one has to wonder why Pokémon limits the point of it's show to only six episodes per every three years. The tournaments' ridiculously short episode running time is made even worse considering the ungoldy amount of filler in the show. I have to agree on the tropes with this, why are the tournaments so short? |
Azure ButterflyIf you beat the tournament portion of the League, you have the ability to challenge the Elite Four. Ash could win the tournament and still get his ass kicked by Cynthia. |

Green the RioluAHA! While shuffling through the internet, I remembered recently that I read something about the Anime (forgot where I read, maybe it was Wiki. idk) about why it's the way it is now. Origninally, it was planned to be more mature. Sometime after it came to dub, the creator wanted to start making things get a bit more mature, but the head of 4Kids said no. They originally were going to make things a bit deeper, but because of 4Kids the show stayed the way it was. Then when 4Kids polices started to chnage, the Anime slowly started to get kidder and kidder so they would continue to dub the english dub, entill it was in the state that it is now. Man, just think about it. If 4Kids didn't dub the Anime, we might have gotten something like Pokemon Special in Anime form, but because of the damage done by 4Kids, it's in the state it is now. :( Just further proof that 4Kids ruins everything they touch. |
HowltheWolfDAMMIT 4KIDS!!!! I FREAKIN HATE YOU SO MUCH!!! YOU CAN BURN IN THE DARK DEPTHS OF HELL FOR ALL I CARE!!! I WISH 4KIDS NEVER EXISTED!!!!!! DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDXXXXX!!!!! *is ranting* Man, just think about it. If 4Kids didn't dub the Anime, we might have gotten something like Pokemon Special in Anime form That would have been so frikkin awesome that everyone would watch it Toko, everyone would. If they made things deeper, people would watch Pokemon more!! Gah!!! DX | #16 Nov 04th, 3:52pm . Edited Nov 04th, 3:54pm | |

DJ RaichuThe Pokemon Anime had a lot of potential, but unfortunately its been Americanized into the piece of crap that we know it today :D Also, the competitive players seriously deserve it at times. With all the time I've interacted with them, they've been arrogant, bitchy, and stupidly conformist. (You use Pikachu? YOU STUPID DUMBFUCK ZAPDOS IS SO MUCH MOAR UBERER!!11) Not all competitive players are jerks like that ;D |
DennyDeMonThe anime needs: Fanservice - A new and effective of attracting viewers. Decent humour - And not those bad puns. Some actualy humour. Humerous humour. Some decent artisits - Get in some quality artists and we'll have character who's head doesn't dramatically change size every episode. Three simple things that I think will improve the anime. |
HyruleeponaHm...I'm apparently the complete opposite here. I hate Ash and think Paul is way better. I don't really want to say much on the subject of Ash because it might make you react in a way I wouldn't want I'm not here to start fights. :/ I'll just say my reasons and be off... Ash: He's just down right annoying, he wins in dumb ways (Pikachu the horn!), he needs to stop lecturing... Paul: He's a real trainer. The "love your Pokemon" thing is getting too old for me. His Pokemon win legit, as far as I've seen. I prefer the dark personality types. |
DJ RaichuPfft...Paul...Gary ******* Oak was so much more badass. ;D |
Green the RioluGary should have stayed Ash's rivial. Either that or no rivial at all. |
Shadow the ImpalerGary should have stayed Ash's rivial. Either that or no rivial at all. Isn't that really just a "They Changed It So It Sucks" kind of attitude? Personally, I found the rivals Ash had in Hoenn pretty good. Granted, they didn't come in until after the eighth badge or so, but they were interesting. The world always needs moar Meowths. And Paul's a sadistic, scathing asshole who acts as an expy/mocking of the IV/EV training/breeding "OMG POKMON TOURNAMENTS R SRS BIZNESS U ^%$&ING N00B" people. The anime needed the former, and the entire series needed the latter in general. |
Green the RioluThey should still atleast let Ash get some wins over him instead of making him lose everytime. That or they could devlop Paul's character like they did Blue in the Manga. He started out as a jerkish, only sees his Pokemon as tools type character. But durring the crose of the Manga he slowly became more like Red in a way. Now, I'm not saying that Paul should be more like Ash. (NO ONE should be more like Ash FTW) But he should at least slowly stop abusing his Pokemon as much as he does now. Become more like the Blue type rivial in the Manga. |
DennyDeMonI don't know. Didn't Gary become some sort of nice person after Ash beat him for like the first time in the Silver Conference? Maybe they are following the same route with Paul. They'll treat Ash's victory as something epic and as a major step in his growth as a trainer and whatnot, and Paul will suddenly turn nice and so on. Not that interesting really. |
UltaFlameI stopped following the anime when they killed off Jigglypuff. |
flare77There's more than one jigglypuff you know. |
UltaFlamethere was only one that made everybody fall asleep every episode and made lulz everytime somehow anyway. |
Twilight- The Moon SpiritThe reason why that jigglypuff stoped appearing was because I caught it XD. |
Twilight- The Moon SpiritI hate Paul but still you have to admit he is strong. Also if I could give them and idea to make pokemon better this is what I would do. Drop a rock on ash's and pika's head so they have amnisi. they forget all there battling skillz and start from lvl 1. THAT would be interesting. |
UltaFlameFor events with the same result as the above described, refer to Start of the Hoenn Arc, and Start of the Sinnoh Arc. |
Green the RioluI still think they should start a new Anime all together. Make it revolve around a new Pokemon trainer just starting out, and make it a bit more mature. I'm not talking about Pokemon tearing each other apart limb by limb, they can still keep it to where kids can watch it, but make it mature enough to where older poeple would want to watch it too, like how the first season was. |
Azure Butterflylike how the first season was. O_o? The first season was the kiddiest of all. That's what made it the best. :D |
Shadow the ImpalerThe first season was the kiddiest of all. That's what made it the best. :D No, what made it the best was not re-hashing plot and script for most of the episodes. Ghost on Maiden's Peak = win. That episode in Rt. 216/217 with the Froslass = general plot of a lonely Pokemon/Pokemon who misses its child. Then again, the series is getting on in years, so it's to be expected. But it seems like every plot line is just more...similar and similar... |
UltaFlamesimplification, simplification, how can we make peoples' minds more simple? |
Green the RioluI miss the first season... :'( Maybe I'll watch it again on Youtube... |
UltaFlameFirst season, First season! Oh the days of old. |
DJ RaichuAnybody else here have the first season on VHS? I do :D |
