Topic: Golden Pair. Oishi and Eiji
Okay this is so OBVIOUS! This is my second favourite pairing. Eiji is just perfect for Oishi! *sniffles* Mama Oishi and Kitty Eiji is just too cute! =^0^=

okay...this is my rant on the Golden Pair: yes, they're cute. Yes, the anime ocassionally screams this. But have you read the manga? As far as I can tell, in the manga there is no real hint to this at all. They don't even seem to spend a whole lot of time together in the manga (or at least, the ones that have been translated so far, which could be the problem). And on some levels I think that their personalities would clash too much after a while. It feels like there are dependence issues there.

Most importantly: for some reason, Kikumaru strickes me as possibly the straightest guy in the series. I've no idea why, but that's just the feeling i get.

*shrugs* I'm weird.

What are you talking about? The manga has possibly the most romantic moments of all!!

Here are some spoilers- look away if you must-

...but...

For a start, there's Eiji's recent singles win against Higa school... it was shown how all his intensive training has been for Oishi, complete with angsty scenes where they realise they won't be able to play together. Then there's their second match against Hyoutei's silver pair... the GP reached the most elite possible stage in doubles tennis- synchronisation, where it was shown they just about shared body and soul. Seriously. I doubt it'd been officially translated yet, but if you email me (sarah_jane_smith at yahoo.com) I can show you where to get scanlations. :3

I'd love to see the scanlations (e-mail sent ^.^)

I'll probably still maintain that I think they work best as friends.....is it possible to get tired of shonen ai? I think part of my problem is that there's just so /much/ golden pair stuff out there, and no one seems to want to consider that they could just be friends. And the idea of those two in a romantic relationship at 14 rubs me the wrong way. I think they can work really well together, and I think the potential is there, but I don't think that makes it immedietly true. There is a special relationship between a doubles pair, yes, but that doesn't translate to romance.

*sigh* I'm not saying that I can't see it at all, or that I don't enjoy Golden Pair fics, I'm just saying that from my personal observations of the canon (and I know, I'm not all the way through the series yet), there's no reason for the occassionally obsessive and almost religious devotion these two can generate. There are some authors who take this pairing as an accepted fact that cannot be denied, and i find that unrealistic and boring.

But I'll still probably write this pairing at some point......maybe......if I can ever bring myself to see Eiji as gay, and not just a guy with four older siblings.

Please, prove me wrong. I /want/ to understand the obsession here.

Yes... That does make sense... But believe it or not, some people actually decide pairings over how the names SOUND. For exemple, Fuji Eiji. Oh. They both have a 'ji' so I'll write a pairing fic about them! And one fic leads to another...

Eiji does strike a lot of peopole as the most innocent in the series- so it would sound insanely OOC if he were to become bold. Oishi is the 'Mama of Seigaku' and is very strict- it would also sound insanely OOC not to mention weird, if HE became bold. If you think about the logics, the golden pair should be a no-no. But people defy the logics and... yeah... I'm so glad we're making sense here...

That name thing souds really....weird.....especially since anyhting can start to sound good/normal if you say it enough....^.^

I don't know that Eiji's /innocent/ necessarily, he just strikes me as very comfortable with himself (most of the time), very straight, and a definite last-born child. I have a book on birth order and how it can affect personalities and it is truely frightening how much of it rings true for this series. VERY scary.

As for defying logic...yeah.....on certain levels that's what fanfiction (and anime) is all about, but at the same time we try to keep everything realy enough to be accessible...... Have you ever read a realistic Golden pair fic? I'd like to read one, if you have any recommendations.

Actually, studies show that the more older brothers a boy has, his odds of being gay increases by 33 percent. So Eiji's odds are increased already by 66 percent. I wouldn't be surprised if he swung that way.

I read a book, too.
