Computerfreak101Topic: Fanfiction Contest Looking For Contestants
Hello there! I'm going to keep this short, and if the admin here is disapproving of this little advertisement, feel free to delete this thread and PM me telling me you did so. I won't bother you again. Anyway, some of you may know, most of you probably don't, but the Yu-Gi-Oh! Fanfiction Contest ended its fifth “season” a few weeks ago. As usual, we're taking a month long break from the weekly fic action, and during this time the sign up sheet is open for new contestants. And as the host, I feel it is my duty to spread the word of this, as I've been doing since the contest started over two years ago. The contest itself is pretty simple. Every other week or so, you're given a “challenge pairing”. It could be anything: yaoi/yuri/het, characters from any season (canon or filler), and it spans difficulty levels from the common (Pride, Revolution, Tender) to the crack (the finale last season was Pandora x Yuugi, and before that it was Zorc x Bakura). You have one week to write a one shot for that pairing, whatever you want, and then four days where the other contestants and myself judge the fics and vote for their favorite. The lowest number of votes gets you kicked out of the contest, though you're still required to vote every round even if you can no longer submit a fic. We keep doing this with pairings of increasing difficulty until we have a winner. (Some past winners have been Angel's Nocturne, Shadow over Egypt, and Fantasy.Maker. Go check them out, they are fantastic. And it gives you an idea of what kind of pairings have been done. All previously submitted fics are catelogued on the contest's forum.) The contest's main priority is to ultimately help you become a better writer, and help you expand your horizons by challenging you with different couples with different difficulty levels. And if you're considering becoming a writer full time, as I know a lot of fanficcers are, this helps give you an idea what it's like to write under a deadline, competing for the public's approval with several other writers by making yours stand out among countless other stories of the same prompt. It's also a great way to get back into writing, if you've been inactive for a while. But work aside, the contest is very fun. Half of our sign up list are former contestants coming back for a second or third go around (some of them hailing all the way from Season 1). But we get lots of newcomers every season, and I'm hoping that's where you come in. I warn you though, if you're going to do this, you need time. Ask anyone from any season, as fun as it is the contest is demanding, as you're basically being asked to write a fic every other week, and while I don't like to I won't hesitate to disqualify you if you're late (luckily there are extensions offered, if the circumstances call for it). There's no limit to the amount of people who can sign up (right now the count is at 26), as long as you do it before June 1st, which is when the contest starts up again. For more details, go to the contest's forum, which you can find by following the link in my profile or by sorting the YGO forums by post number. There's a lot of threads that aren't contest related and, well, we like to talk a lot. ^_^ If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. Hope to see you there! ~Compy |
