saarazaaraTopic: Open thread - latest and greatest of what's on your mind re writing House!fic? Greetings, all. Purpose here is any questions/discussion that comes to mind that might not justify a full thread, covers the hot topic of the day, comments about the latest fest or writing challenge or anything else you can think of.To kick off, I have some burning questions for anyone who writes House MST. Do you tell folks you're MSTing their work? Do you need their permission? If not, what happens if/when they find out - what kind of reactions have you seen? Inquiring minds want to know. Thx! |

DIY SheepMe me me! I can answer that. As a GAFFer from way back (God Awful Fan Fiction - a wonderful website that has now in technical haitus) the MSTers made a wise decision - never ever ever make fun of the Fuhrer, er sorry - I mean tell the fan brat. Someone was always telling the writer and oi did I pick a few doozies - there was this one guy who was a total looney - and I mean total looney - he was infamous in real life as well - it took us months for him to shut up. And I am not kidding: his fiction had continuous music playing in the background and big white bouncing balls covering parts of the text. So no - don't tell the fanbrat. Just safely make fun of them in secret. Two reasons. No Typical Fanbrat Response 101: if u dont like it dont read it its just fan fiction i bet u dont write i'm a writer i'm an artist u sickos and two - they may one day get better and while crushing all hope early is fun, I always like to look on the bright side. |

NamasteNever mind the MST issues. I pointed out that a fic -- which presents "Wilson's childhood" -- has him as living in some kind of a cross between Dickens and Hitler's 1930s Germany, has both of his parents and his grandfather dying of cancer and has him fostered out to a family who beats him. I pointed out in a review that it should be labeled as AU since we've been told Wilson has parents and two brothers. The writer's response? Hell, I was the one who wrote "xxx", and am replying to your review. If I may say so myself, you're comment was uncalled for and offensive. Do you really care whether or not it was AU? Besides, this is fan FICTION. For all I know, he could be lying about that, or talking about his foster family. The point being, it was upsetting to see a nasty review, not over quality of writing or plot or some personal opinion, but over whether or not is was an alternate universe. Next time, control yourself. Boy, if she thought that was nasty, she should have seen what a wanted to write, but didn't. |

RaneeeFor all I know, he could be lying about that, or talking about his foster family. And as we all know, everybody lies about everything. Good grief, why such a problem labelling it AU? If ever there was a piece that deserved to be MST & the author know about it, it sounds like that was it. his fiction had continuous music playing in the background and big white bouncing balls covering parts of the text. Huh? Dear god, why?? while crushing all hope early is fun Sometimes it a favor to society as a whole! if u dont like it dont read it Umm, how can I know if I do or don't like it without reading it?? Can someone please explain why authors put that damn statement up so often? |

saarazaaraQuestion - folks have commented elsewhere on the tendency of House's putative kids to be male or female, but one thing I just noticed is that Chase's kids always seem to be girls. Any one any thoughts on this? |
|
entercreativenameYeah, why is it always girls? I've been thinking about this, and I've decided that it fits into the Mary Sue (almost typed Jane) syndrome (the Jane one is more fun). Tween girls out there are using these characters to connect to the world and are suddenly wishing/writing that they are them. Hence, these tween girls, who have always wanted little baby girls to play house with (both types of house) write themselves as Cameron, or Cuddy, or whoever in these stories and write in the idea that they want that little girl. It kind of goes with the psychology of the idea that if these tweens don't feel accepted in their social circle (God, remember high school?) so they need to have something that is dependent on them so that the dependent thing will be the one to accept them.| #6 Oct 21st 2006, 1:28am . perspiHello! Finally have an FF account, so can participate here. Maybe this time the fanfic discussion from TWoP will stick? | #7 Feb 02nd 2007, 10:55am . Edited Feb 02nd 2007, 10:56am

RaneeeHi, perspi, please feel free to suggest a topic, I'm happy to chat particularly since I'm sick of the flaming that's going on on the TWoP thread. One thing I found interesting is the recent wave of OR,OD fics - they all seem to be either House or Chase focused, nothing about Cameron's thoughts or Foreman's for example.| #8 Feb 02nd 2007, 11:13am
