Diego VarenChristopher Eccleston for me. He was the first Doctor I saw on TV and I personally prefer his portrayal to David Tennant's.From the old series, so far all of the old Doctor actors are good, including Colin Baker (a bit underrated) and Paul McGann (who could have had his own series in Doctor Who, if given a chance). | #52 Sep 11th 2007, 9:14am

SonicBananaYeah I have seen him in The Mark of the Rani and I told C. Baker was pretty good and his companion Ace. But for the current topic, I really like both but I suppose because I'm currently looking into shows and movies he's starring in, it would probably have to be David Tennant. | #53 Sep 24th 2007, 2:06pm

Diego VarenYeah I have seen him in The Mark of the Rani and I told C. Baker was pretty good and his companion Ace. The Mark of the Rani is an okay episode, but having only seen that and the Two Doctors, there are probably better episodes with Baker (Colin). Oh and Ace wasn't the Sixth Doctor's companion, but the Seventh and she is a good companion. | #54 Sep 25th 2007, 11:40pm . Edited Sep 25th 2007, 11:40pm

Legolas0If you want to see some old Dr. Whos, check out your local library, if that doesn't work, nearly every episode is on YouTube. Just go on wikipedia and search for "list of Dorctor Who Serials" it takes you to a big list. find a place to start, go to youtube, and type the title of that story into the search. find part one and start watching. the stories are broken up into 9-15 parts, but you can probably figure it out. Also, PBS shows some old stories on saturdays. tehe-61I still have a theory that Ewan McGregor will be the next doctor. OMG! that would be amazing! he could give david tennant a run for his money. | #67 Oct 10th 2007, 4:23pm

FusionmixI'm not really anti-David...I've seen Blackpool and must agree he is quite talented, however, Eccleston's mix of angst and humor seemed to work a little better, at least in my book. He and Piper also had better onscreen chemistry in my opinion. I do like Tennant, don't get me wrong, it's just that he has a few traits that get under my skin, such as his little 'god complex' in New Earth, and of course, the part that everybody knows about in GitF. I did love that episode though...I'm not one of those squeeing fangirls who throw fits on message boards going "OMFG DETH 2 MADDAM DU SLUTSLUT!!!1", though the fact it took him three episodes to get around to liking Rose, and around fifteen minutes to fall head over heels for Reinette...something about that made me stop mentally grinning every time he showed up.| #70 Oct 28th 2007, 5:34pm

I will be taking that cakeI don't know if you know this, but it's entirely possible for him to have an infinite number of regenerations, you see, back during the time war, the Time Lords on Galifrey gave the Master another set of regenerations so he could fight in the war. Another time he tried to use some eye or whatnot to steal the Doctor's regenerations. Since Galifrey and the Time Lords (exception of 1(2?) {Doctor and Master respectfully}) It's fully possible that the regenerations are no longer limited, so the Doctor, and the Master(he's come back before) could have an unlimited number.| #71 Jan 27th 2008, 3:19pm

Hermione VaderHello, everybody! I'm Hermione Vader and I'm quite new to "Doctor Who" (though I think I'm learning the canon rather quickly). I've only been watching the episodes on YouTube for about a month, but I pretty much know the course of the giant story arc and I love it! I'm a fantasy/sci-fi geek and a history/ historical ficiton geek, so this is the perfect show for me. And I'm completely American, so I thought this would be a good place to start in the forums.Okay, I've only really seen New Who (though I've seen a small bit of Seven and a very tiny bit of Five); I hope that's okay. Personally, I really love both Nine and Ten, but for different reasons. But if I was forced to pick between the two, I'd have to go with Eccleston because he was so expressive (as you've already said). He really gave the Doctor a lot of depth and just brought a lot of pathos to the role. His Doctor reminded me of Dean Winchester (from the CW's "Supernatural") with his leather jacket, short haircut, and his ability to switch emotions on a dime (and that's a very good thing). Does anyone here watch "Heroes" also? Eccleston was awesome in the first season as Claude "The Invisible Man" Rains (and thus, Claude is my favorite character). And I think I'm the only one here who thinks Nine was sexy (I like tall men in leather jackets)... As for Tennant, I also love his Doctor, but that might be because Ten reminds me of my 15-year-old younger brother (who has Aspereger's Syndrome, a mild form of autism; I wonder what that says about Ten...). Ten is just really fun and geeky and overall adorable, but he does have his moments of depth, like in "School Reunion" when he said his little schpiel about immortality being "the curse of the Time Lords." Ten just has an irresistible sweetness that I can't get enough of. Okay, who else here cannot watch "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" without making "Doctor Who"-related jokes? I know I can't since Tennant was Barty Crouch, Jr. and the bad guy from "Rise of the Cybermen"/"Age of Steel" was Barty Crouch, Sr. Now, when I watch the scene in the Pensieve where Barty, Jr. gets arrested, I can't help saying things like "You can't do this to me! I'm a Time Lord!" or "It's all the Daleks' fault!" And when he changes back into himself at the end, I half-expect Professor McGonagall to walk in and say, "Albus, there's a big blue box in Moaning Myrtle's bathroom. What should we do with it?" Oh, and Got Scots, I'd been wondering who might be the next Doctor and thought "Maybe they'll get Ewan McGregor...nah, he's too well-known." That would be very interesting to see Young Obi-Wan Kenobi step out of the TARDIS, though. | #72 Mar 11th 2008, 4:40pm . Edited Mar 11th 2008, 4:42pm

CaledamonI like David Tennant best. He just puts so much energy into the Doctor and the way he sees all things as amazing in a way, it just makes you see them as amazing too. | #73 Apr 16th 2008, 12:02pm

gingerbritishgypsyelfHullo, I've only seen Nine and Ten so I don't have all the Doctors to choose from but I like David best. (It could be that our personalities are so similar, but whatevs.) He is sweet and funny and stuff but every now and again you get a glimpse of what's under that exterior. It's like he's projecting the sweet funniness to cover up the loss. You see bits of darker him when Rose leaves and in "The Doctor's Daughter" when he refuses to accept Jenny in the beginning. I can't help it, I just love number 10! Chris was good, but dark. I like the Doctor to be funny and brilliant, even if a lot of it is a facade. | #74 Jun 16th 2008, 5:23pm

Rebecca CunninghamUh, I don't know who is a better 'Doctor', but I like Number Nine (He was the first 'Doctor' I've seen when I started watching DW) and Number Ten. Since I lived under a rock, I don't know the other ones. | #76 Sep 07th 2008, 5:23pm

Roselin the dark angelwe'll fill you in. what if you knew a person that was like the tenth doctor? I mean how cool would that be! I am already looking for his gadgets as we speak! but for me Tennant is the one true doctor! aside from the abominations in the show, like the human one and the "donna doctor"I mean it they stunk! they should have him and Rose together once more, forever!! | #77 Sep 08th 2008, 8:59am . ImmortalLoveri agree, rose should be with the doctor, i hate how they just kinda cast her aside with a half-Doctor.... it's not the same thing, and if i were her, i would be throwing a tantrum! and i can't decide if i like tennant or eccleston better... eccleston just is so good with the facial expressions, and the emotions switching but tennant is so good looking, as well as being very "doctor-ish".... not quite sure what i mean by that other than he just fits... like a born-to-be Doctor | #78 Sep 08th 2008, 3:06pm

Legolas0that's for sure. I don't mean to step on anyones toes, but I rather like what they did with the doctor and rose. I'm a shipper all the way, but at the same time I just can't imagine the doctor settling down. I've watched a lot of classic who, so I'm all for the lifestle hes lived for the past six hundred years. I not sure if newbies can really get what i mean, but i think classic fans will. | #79 Sep 08th 2008, 3:51pm

ImmortalLoveri get the whole "the doctor isn't the settling down type of guy" thing of course i do, it's what makes the doctor... but who says that rose can't just continue traveling with him?? why would her being there involve settling down, i mean... it's the same as always, just longer-lasting i would never want a settled-down doctor, i'm totally in love with his completely spontaneous personality that leads to so many cool adventures! | #80 Sep 09th 2008, 7:19pm

CrabsSomehow I feel like the only fan in the world who doesn't enjoy the Tenth Doctor much, and prefers the Seventh or Ninth, and of course the classic Fourth whom everyone loves (Romana is my favorite companion everrrrr~)... And I absolutely LOVED Donna with the Tenth, because their first episodes together were a big change from the norm these days of romance and love. (Which I can not stand, personally. ._.) They were just palling around and having fun. The only time I fully enjoyed the Tenth. But eh, I'm the strange one out. I hated Rose, HATED her. Especially in the last few episodes with her both before and after Doomsday. I've lost any and all interest in the new episodes, and unless I'm told absolutely FANTASTIC things about the next season, I'm not going to watch it. Hounding around old things for Classic episodes? Yesplz. xD But even though, I agree with the whole "He'll never settle down" After all, the Ninth feared "going domestic" ;3 | #81 Sep 10th 2008, 12:56pm

Crystal ShoresWaaaaay back at the start of the forum, someone said that the Doctor could only have 13 regenerations. Where did that come from? A fic, a rumor, or was it on a show? And Tennant all the way! When he was posessed in the "burn with me" episode (can't recall the title), I was all over crying and wanting to hug the poor dear! |
|
JennMel13 regenerations is part of the mythology created in the original series when the Master was nearing the end of his regeneration cycles and managed to avoid it. So, the process is excepted, but possible to circumvent, as proved by the Master and something the council did uring the Time War. There are suggestions that now the council are gone, the 13 lives may not be true any more. If you want to read up on it, go on wiki and type regenerations (doctor who). And the emotion in that episode (42) is amazing! |
|
Crystal ShoresThanks for the information! A random prediction: whoever ends up writing for the 13th regeneration will, when the actor needs to stop, kill him off and proclaim him completely dead. The general public will, depending on the way it was written, hate the writer with a passion or be content. But at least a handful of people will be upset, and one of those people will, inevitably, be a writer. If he or she can't find a way to bring him back, she or he will find someone who can. Eventually, they'll come up with something that BBC likes, or BBC will have sold the show, and the Doctor will come back. Because really, he's like SpongeBob: they'll claim to cancel, but the popularity is too great. And (to misquote J. V. Hart) what would the world be like without the Doctor? Probably Dalek-infested. :) |
|
Scarlett De FontaineI definitely like the 10th Doctor better. He's less serious and more random. I say if I lived forever i would try to have as much fun as possible. If I had to get rid of a few Daleks, Cybermen, Slytheen, or whatever to have that fun, then so be it. Oh, I got off subject. Anyway! At first, when I had gotten used to Christopher Eccleston, I thought it was wierd that David Tennant, who I had only seen as Barty Crouch Jr. in Harry Potter 4, was playing the Doctor, a completely opposite character in my eyes. |
