Alana’s face was almost dreamy, her eyelashes fluttering as if sleep was ready to take her into its whimsical embrace. Kissing her softly on the lips one last time, I murmured tenderly to her, “You look you need some rest, I’ll let you sleep, my lady.”

"Um...ale's fine with me," I said to him. "Thank you so much, love."

Actually, sleep would be quite nice. But...

"Stay with me?" I asked him softly, opening one eye and giving him a tired little grin. "You probably...want to sleep to. I think you've been up...since Lucy was born..."

/Rolf/

“It has been my pleasure, my darling,” I replied, pecking her on the brow before I went off to the counter to deliver the order. Unbeknownst to her, I placed a security spell around her so if any one of the local drunkards start harassing her, I would know and return to her side in a flash.

Hopefully, none of these fools will keep to their mugs and look the away. Things will get a little…messy if they don’t.

Realizing for the first time how drained I was, I inclined my head slowly to confirm her statement. “Now that you say that, I am. And don’t worry, I’ll stay right by you That is what you wish, after all.”

Shifting my weight and body around so I was in a more comfortable position, I withdrew my hand from Alana’s head and hooked it around her waist so she would be at ease that I was next to her, protecting her.

“Goodnight,” I whispered, my breath caressing her ear in loving fashion.

I stared into his eyes, a brilliant smile washing over my face as I threw my arms around him, muttering into his chest.

"Oh, only if I want to. . . Egil, it would be my express wish that you give me a whole bunch of rowdy, sardonic, toe headed, perfectly disagreeable, lovely children," I chuckled, "I love you---and I give myself entirely to you."

I kept my face against his chest, feeling soothed by the rhythm of his heart beat.

I sat at the table, twidling my thumbs and trying to avoid the eyes of the drunkards while waiting for Rolf to come back with our meal. And then...I got that feeling...the one you get when you feel like someone's watching you, or standing right over you. I looked up to find a few of the rowdier drunken men standing over me.

"Well, looky `ere, gents," one of them slurred. "We got ourselves a pretty lil' one tonight, don't we?"

I curled against Thanatos, resting my head on his chest. Ah, a heart, a beating heart. It was such a soothing sound...

"Good night, Thanatos..." I whispered back to him.

/Egil/

A small yet content chuckle burst forward from my chest and I felt my heart soar like it never had before. “You truly mean that?” I murmured huskily to her, my lips lightly brushing the side of her face, “You would spend the rest of your days with me?”

Against my will, my heart quicken its pace, abiding by a more rapid beat than before. Blood rushed to my temples and all I could possibly think about was Illenka and her answer to my question.

Just as soon I had placed our order in, alarms were blaring in my head. The spell–Nickelia was in danger!

Whirling around, my silver eyes ruthlessly scanned the reveling vicinity to find Nikki in the bawdy mess. Soon enough, I found her, about to be harassed by a posse of drunks. With an enraged growl that startled a few humans next to me, I rushed back to our table, the crimson specks in my eyes gradually conquering the silver hue, engulfing the irises into a bloody hue.

If they even so dare touch her, it’s off the shadows with them!

I reached for my silverware, grabbing a knife should I need to defend myself. One of the drunks reached for me, attempting to place his hands in a place where they didn't belong at all. I managed to jab at his hand with the knife, breaking the skin. The scent of blood filled the corner.

And then...Rolf was there.

Thank God!

I smiled gently. "Well, yes. . .all that are given to me . . .they're yours. . " my lids swept close as he hardly kissed my cheek. "E-everything I am. . is yours. ."

I lie quietly against him, the rapping of his heart sending a reverberation across his chest, vibrating against my ears.

"Your heart beats like an iron fist. . ." I commented offhandedly, "Its comforting. . " I closed my eyes and felt my lips pull into a contented grin. I was comfortable, I would've been ready to leave this world in his warm embrace, against the only rhythm that mattered to me anymore. .
