Topic: "Explain Your Nifty Gadgets" as Chaos said
Yeah, so if ya got any nifty stuff that needs to be explained, do it here. Unless it's a secret but it's handy for the rest of us to know how it works, its limitations, etc. I'm going to post some of my stuff in a minute. But fire away, go for it. Every reference we can make helps.

Hackers' Bane: Originally only referred to Dagda's sword, it can now refer to any number of weapons made out of the substance called Hacker's Bane. Here is an exerpt from my musings about it whilst talking with Chaos in the chat thread:

"Anything that's been changed from what the original creators made is generally destroyed by the blade. For example, the field where New Bristol is was created by Dagda. If anyone directly changes something about the server(example being Cruxis altering the waters of the ocean to create that monster from before), the blade can destroy it. But it can also receive specific commands if it refuses to destroy something(as it did with Chaser when the Black's egg went inside his body). It's most effective when destroying hacker PCs though. Hence the name Hackers' Bane. It'll destroy the PC and comatose the user for several months. That's why Dagda has to wear bandages on his hand. It's so he doesn't destroy himself."

Basically anything that's been hacked, the sword can destroy it.

Ragnarok System: A system developed by Dagda, originally meant for wiping out armies. It involves a massive data drain(he usually uses a large number of NPCs to accomplish this), which he gathers the data from at the end of his staff and manipulates it into a massive wave of energy. This can manifest itself in one of two forms: 1) and area attack, or 2) a concentrated blast launched against a single target. The system has proven its power numerous times, most recently in its destruction of the Phase called Gorre the Machinator.

I got quoted! I feel so loved. ^_^

Black Items: Items that Nox gives to people he likes. If the items are removed from the one given the item, they automatically warp back to wherever Nox is. Each one has a different ability.

Black Eggs: Each one contains one minature A.I.D.A.. When this AIDA takes a host, if that host PKs a player, the player is knocked into a coma for a few weeks. They may have other properties as well.

Write-Protection: Featherduster is the only player to be able to put write-protection on data. Write-protected data cannot be altered, overwritten, or deleted. A varient of write-protection protects fields claimed by Featherduster's Quiet Haven from hackers: Hackers and Admin can warp in and out, perform functions from programs that are part of their weapons (like Hacker's Bane's effect), but any and ALL other hacking is nullified.

Cool, now I can better explain about Grid's bracelet.

The Warp Bracelet: A bracelet that appears as a warped version of the Twilight Bracelet. It was originally one of the few bracelets made from Aura and the Book of Twilight. It was hidden within the Twilight Book in the area "Darkness Torturous Nightmare", a mysterious area that exists in The World but wasn't entirely completed by CCcorp. The Player Killer Grid manage to find the area as well as the book, taking the Bracelet within for himself. But while the bracelet was in process of being part of Grid's character, it was revealed that Grid's character had a computer virus which attachs itself to pieces of data and corrupts them. The virus attached itself to the bracelet and corrupted the data and power it had, resulting in its warped appearance.

It's able to use a dark power similar to Data-Drain, but was proven to not be Data-Drain at all. It was revealed that instead of absorbing and rewriting data, this darker version destroys data completely, releasing bits of the virus which spreads and consumes/destroys any data around it. It can be use to destroy other characters, monsters, buildings, even entire areas. While it can still use Gate-Hacking as well as heal Grid's data and HP by transferring from surrounding data into energy, another trait that this power lacks from the original is that it doesn't give dropped items to the user.

This warped power goes by several names, either being known as Dark Data-Drain, Data-Destroyer, Virus-Drain, or more commonly known as Fake Data-Drain.

-

Fake Data-Drain: Warped version of the basic Data-Drain. Instead of absorbing and rewriting data, it completely destroys it, releaseing bits of the virus to spread and destroy any data near by. Use often on monsters and other players.

Fake Drain-Arc: Warped version of Drain-Arc.

2128 Fake-Drain: Warped version of 2128 Drain. This form is used more on hackers, hacked monsters, or other unnatural entities in The World.

Fake Drain-Heart: Warped version of Drain-Heart. This form is used more on large groups of enemies, and is even used to destroy entire areas.

(Fifth Form coming soon)

What happens to unprepared players who warp to Inverted Castle without the special programming upgrade that only Poor Luck and Featherduster can do:

First, the controls for the PC freeze up. Then the character data starts disintigrating from the inside out, slowly at first but then accelerated. 5-10 minutes later, the PC is destroyed and the computer that was being used can no longer access The World due to extensive damage.

If the player is using a headset, a feedback loop builds up in their brain and spinal cord. First, the player experiences temporarily paralysis. Then the feedback does more and more damage, reaching to the point of multiple strokes and possible death. If the player is using something other than a headset to access, the device will explode when the PC is about 75 percent destroyed.

Dagda's Amulet: Dagda's amulet is one of the oldest items in the World. Well the original one is anyway. He gave that to Luna, but since we wrote her out of the RP, I'm going to say he got it back from her, just for old times sake. The amulet obeys commands given it by the user on where they wish to go. It is not always accurate when a new user is first trying to weild it. It usually takes them to within five feet of their requested destination(meaning it's best for beginners not to try moving to places too close to walls, just in case they warp in inside a wall). Experienced users can manipulate it with ease. Dagda and his Tuatha use the amulets in aid of their substitution trick.

(Not really a gadget but...)

The Substitution Trick: Used by Dagda and his followers to avoid taking damage in battle, it has become one of Dagda's signature moves. It involves replacing one's self with an NPC at the same split second as moving out of the way to avoid damage. The exact nature of this trick is not yet known(I can't find the words to explain it as I am quite sleepy).

(Again, not really a gadget but kinda sorta not really): The Spectrum Dragon

The Spectrum Dragon: The very same beast destroyed by Balmung and Orca during the One Sin event, the data was salvaged by Dagda back in the days of the Fragment and he gradually managed to put it back together. It is now just as fearsome as it was then and Dagda employs its use during large battles in general.

Time to explain Buko's items! ^^

Whip of Abomina: A rare ten foot long whip only available to the Long Whip Class. This weapon is endowed with the properties of ice and can emit a small control over the wielder's surroundings by freezing them over. The tip of the whip is a sharp white blade that has the capabilities to freeze an opponent temporarily. Unfortunately, the whip is not that useful at close range or fire type attacks due to its length.

Ice Shard: The ice shards used by Buko are small chunks of ice that, when thrown, freeze their targets. Their primary use is to freeze over enough of an area for Buko to activate his Grand Arces attack. The shards can also manipulate already frozen targets and create defensive walls, domes, etc. for the wielder. These defenses are not horribly strong alone, but when combined with a few shards they are quite tough.

Buko's Glasses: Used only once, Buko's glasses are an emergency weapon that, when thrown, turn into a sharp ice pick that explodes either on contact or Buko's command. They were originally just part of his character data, but when Buko was promoted to Administrator he had CC Corp re-configure the data so that he could use the glasses as a weapon.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. I knew I was missing something.

Arms of a Loved One: A program invented by Dagda for use in conjunction with the Ragnarok System. What it does is: protect the user of Ragnarok and also protects anyone/anything that the user wishes not to be harmed. The name, is without a doubt, a tad sappy. But Dagda invented it whilst in that state of mind and so the name followed suit.

Phantoms: There are several kinds. One is the pale, ghostly sharks. All are extensions of the creature/being that controls fields reclaimed by Featherduster. The sharks exist only to eliminate threats to the well-being of those fields.

As Phantoms are merely extensions of a greater entity, they are not truly seperate creatures and cannot be hijacked or controlled in any way. Cutting them off from their source only causes them to instantly disintigrate.

Well, I just think I should make mention here.

Dagda's Dog: A simple program originally used for tracking players. Dagda altered its original bloodhound form to that of a very large Irish Wolfhound(biggest breed of dog in the world, but Dagda's representation of it is even larger. Like around 7 ft long-ish, maybe anout 3 1/2 ft tall) The dog is still useful with tracking but the large form gives it very effective combat applications as well. The beast is remarkably fast for something that size, and could possibly be used as a mount in place of an animal like a grunty.

Tuatha Jewelry: In the old days of the Tuatha De Danaan, each of the four major members controlled their own servers, not part of the World but only accessible from the World. They were forced to come up with a way for friendly units to come and go and keep the riff-raff out. The method had to be discreet. They came up with the idea to use different jewelry items, one of each was given to every Tuatha member. AN amulet for Dagda's server, a ring for Danu's, an anklet for Boand's and a belt buckle for Elcmar's. As with Dagda's amulet, these items can also take you where you wish to go, not just the Tuatha servers.

Black Sword: Black item given to Charlie. The blade can become the blade of any weapon that has ever been a blade, including Hacker's Bane. The blade floats a few inches off the hilt, preventing any nasty side-effects (such as what happens to people in contact with Hacker's Bane), while still letting the user wield the full power of whatever blade he chooses to use.

How effective it is against enemies depends on how skilled a swordsman the user is, naturally. Luckily for Charlie, he's one of the best.

Tuatha Treasures (Just a beginning for this as not all of the details for the items have been thought of...)

Dagda's Cauldron: The treasure belonging to Dagda. This object, looking like a glorified pot, is largely a restorative item. The cauldron's power is activated when its owner is damaged, when the owner orders it to heal another or when the user asks it to save him or her. The cauldron is able to restore its owner to safety when threatened, and it will not take orders from anyone but the owner. The cauldron cannot be broken down into raw data. Not that it would do anyone any good to do so in the first place. The treasures all destroy anyone or anything that attempts dissolving them. The cauldron is also used as a container for the Spear of Lugh, another Tuatha treasure, because it is the only object with sufficient power to prevent the spear from destroying it at a touch.

The Spear of Lugh: This weapon, conceived before the World's creation, is said to be capable of destroying any data that its head touches. It is often stored inside Dagda's Cauldron. If the business end of the spear were to be left on the ground somewhere, it'd destroy the entire field. A very dangerous object to say the least.

I have two items:

(Can't remember the name of it) Scarlet gave the item to Buko it has the abblity to change the presons class to any that they like. A legal item, so can not be said as hacked.

Sword of a Thousand Souls: The sword that Scarlet holds beside him, it is one of the eight items made by Hearold (sorry if the spelling is wrong) and was surported by the black box. (FYI scarlets crew has 3 of them) It is said that all the data that is ever created ran through the sword at least once and that it was once a nexis of data giving it the nickname ex-key of twilight. The only reason this was so was that who ever posses this sword has a strong will to protect Aura, sence she once resided in the sword. This sword is what keeps Scarlet immortal in the system but what binds him to Aura for as long as he resides there. (NOTTICE: I know that one of the user above said that they have the write protected program only and they do, but i have alread said in the old rp and Dagda can vouch for me on this, the sword cannot be altread in its data, that is all, my charcter has no claim on such software.)

I'm going to put up a more detailed list of the specific different kinds of Phantoms.

Recap: A Phantom is an extensive of the Underlier connected to 'Graceful Illusion's Moonlight' and other fields which have been 'reclaimed' by Featherduster. They don't qualify as separate creatures, tend not to have a mind of their own, and cannot have their control hijacked by an outside party - when the connection between the Underlier and the Phantom is tampered with, the Phantoms almost immediately disintegrate since they lack the ability to hold their forms together on their own.

...

(+)Phantom Shark: the white sharks that swim in the blue crystal that seems to make up the body of the Underlier in 'Graceful Illusion's Moonlight'. They are ravenous and mindless, existing only to track down abnormal data chunks and consume them. They'll tear through anything that gets in their way, including other Phantoms and each other, and they are always hungry. They act rather like an immune response during an allergic reaction...

(+)Phantom Gomora: white versions of the Cubia Gomora (as seen in GU), with slightly longer tendrils, faster movement speed, and a lot more teeth. They can leave the blue crystal and attack threats farther away. They travel in clusters, all tangled together until they either reach their target or hit an unexpected obstacle; at that point, the Gomora separate and move to swarm their target from all directions until it's destroyed. Phantom Gomora exhibit groupmind behavior - what one Gomora sees/experiences goes straight to the rest of the cluster, and from there to the Underlier. Phantom Gomora clusters range in size from about 25 to 30 Gomora per cluster.

This is the virus made by Rune, as stated by Song in the chat thread:

Virius Scythe- a 'treasure' it activates by the person it's assigned to, or when Rune, it's creator activates it. What it does, is it infects the Player, going straight to the saves. Going back in the history, it starts to mess around with the saves, breaking them up, and deleting them, usually without the person knowing. Rune is an excellent hacker, with 10 plus years as a hacker (he's not as old as you are thinking, since 10 years, with the original, he was 17-18).

Once the virius is planted, you need to have hacking skills better then his to get it undone. Anyway, he can always make more then one, and he also planted more 'innocent' viriuses in the scythe. Like, ones someone would focus on, without realizing the one they should worry about.

TheSongOfNature

~Items~

Virus Knife- A knife Rune created for Alina, to help her when she got in trouble. If anyone, but Rune, Rose, or Alina touch it (or are harmed by it), it unleashes a virus that slowly takes a Player's HP, and if they have any MP, that as well.

As it absorbs this, the Player is forced to save at the lowest point, and the absorbtion goes into Alina's staff. The Player logs back on, to find their HP nearly gone, as well as their MP.

Alina's Staff- Alina's Staff absorbs part of Alina's HP and MP (about 10%) to use at a critical time. Linked to the Virus Knife, it also absorbs others' HPs and MPs, into the staff. This staff was also created by Rune, through the request of Rose (same with the knife actually), so Rose wouldn't find Alina laying around, nearly depleted.

(Song: Oh, I'm horrible. I've got so many brutal ideas, and I've got to filter them so my charachters aren't all powerful. Mainly, except for the knife, and the staff, all of Alina's stuff is normal. None of Rune's or Rose's is)

~Spells~

Virus Activation Spell- Rune created it so he could activate his viruses while in the game. Created by him, he won't teach it to anyone else. It will only work with other hackers that have viruses anyway.

Reflection- I made it up, I think. It's supposed to be an old spell that reflects a persons Magic attack. When with Alina's staff, it has odd effects, especially if that person is attached to the Virus Knife.

Dancing Blades- This spell was created by Alina herself. It requires someone wielding a sword, and rocks. It will work well with the spell Alina was taught, though it does drain Alina...unless she uses her staff. The rocks take on the sharpness of a battle ready katana, and may take some of the effects of the sword being wielded. (Look at the staff)

Silver Light- The spell creates a silver train of light, that can be written into a rune. Rune created the spell for himself, but Alina stole it and uses it often, much to Rune's annoyance. This enhances any spell Alina (or Rune) use. (Like Reflection)

Summon- Summon does that, summon. Rose summons an innocent looking puppy dog with big round green eyes, white fur, and a red rose marking on his forehead; Alina summons a King Cobra that is 6 feet long, and emerald green. (anyone can use this by the way)

Sharpened Blade- Rune uses one of his normal knives, and makes it dangerous. He tosses it into masses, and it has varied effects. It's been known to explode in mid air to just covering a field in smoke. Rune can also just toss it, and activate it at the last moment. Or he can toss it, wait for someone to pick it up, then activate it. It's in a trail period.

(Song: Man, I'm evil.)

~Viriuses~

Contamination- This virus is still in the working stages by Rune. He keeps it wrapped up in a bundle, then lets it go, making sure to have 'warnings' sent out to people he cares about. He's been caught by it twice, and he had come back, to Rose, with half his arm missing once. Contamination pretty much contaminates an area. Touching it can destroy a character, and any character. What it's wrapped in is part of it, and the only part he perfected. It won't hurt him, and only him. (only when the 'cloth' is around it though) Rune can 'connect' to it with a 'spell' also called Contamination. He seems to have minimal control over it, like seeing where people are.

Back Lash- Virus perfected. Rune has a talisman that, if he attaches it onto his enemy, can send a black lash of Rune's HP hit onto the enemy. It varies from 5% to 100% in back lashing, and can get nasty, like if the person gives him a burn or poisons him. In fact, Back Lash can pretty much kill the enemy, if it hits back hard enough.

Taint- One like Contamination, not perfected, but only for one. It hits back on Rune, and one other person, but only if Rune has enough data on the person. This one virus is why Rune allied himself Alina, who loves information and revenge. If the person runs through it, the virus attaches itself, and becomes a tracking device. Sometimes it's found out, where upon it will explode (only sometimes), or just be gone. Firewalls aren't really effective, since it's like the Trojan Virus.

Shock- It sends up a large voltage through a charachter and is known to actually hurt the person in the Real World. It's iffy because every once in awhile it will activate without someone touching it. The voltage is so huge, it blows apart the area it's hidden.

~Via's Creations~

Loyal Servant- it looks like a Dire Wolf with pure black eyes and a coat the color of freshly spilled blood. Shortened to 'Loyal' it's the only thing Via will allow close to her. Loyal is also deadly in combat, and easily brings back people who have stolen from Via.

Bone Knife- It looks like a sharpened, pure white, bone of something, the hilt pure silver. The fact is, it is a rare item, created by someone for Via (that someone owed her for some information. She uses it rarely). It is curved, and has an added feature. If anyone but Via tries to use it, they will find that it will stab them through the heart.

Blood Moon- It's a scythe with the silver blade that is straight up, double edged, and the edges of the blade has a blood red tint to it. The part that holds the blade is the color of ebony. It lays behind the rock. People who steal it will find that they will find a very rare Bone Knife laying in their path.

Pearls of Power- pearls of various colors that Via has. They are actually given as presents when someone gives 'him' information Via wants. Don't steal these, or they might explode, KOing the thief instantly.

(Song: Via doesn't like it when her things are stolen. Thus Loyal Servant too)

Rita's Oracle Stones:

Rita, a hacker hired by the Order for barrier protection, hides Daath through a system of Oracle Stones. In this, several stones are scattered in fields on each server. The field absorbs the stones, this way, anyone who is not a member of the Order and happens upon Daath's key words will be sent to these fields by default instead of being sent to Daath. However, they must be placed in several dozen fields in order for the affect to take place.

Dante's sword:

It was originally just a normal broadsword, but when his sister was killed, the blast that killed her hit the blade and infused itself with it. Dante has no clue how it happened, or why it can do what it does. He rarely uses it's ability, Data Break, which instantly fragments any data it touches. He has never used it on a player before, it could possibly have major side effects on the player. He keeps it mainly as a reminder of his sister.

Imagination's Dream

Anrui's Viruses:

Delta~ The virus simply called 'delta' is one of Anrui's first creations, and among her most lethal. It's mainly used as a line of defense against someone hacking her laptop, but can be sent to anyone through anything. It has two forms, Delta-Beta and Delta-Zero.

Delta-Beta: What's used on her computer. She refers to it as the 'Retro-virus of computers' because it's created differently from other viruses to the point where it seems backwards to anyone familiar with them. It back tracks whatever tried to hack into her laptop, and attacks the hard-drive, no matter what security is set up. It will re-write all programs and data and have it make copies of itself through it, and then it's copies are sent to all computers connected with that one, thus infecting thoes as well. What it does next is send the hard-drives into over-drive, making them get overheated, and melt, then set fire. If someone is connected to The World while this virus hits their computer, the virus' second form starts.

Delta-Zero: Delta-Zero is only sent in two ways; either from someone being in The World when Delta-Beta hits, or from Anrui herself sending it. It affects, in essence, the brain of whoever is touching the computer through a short electric shock that can come from speakers, keyboards, or the computer tower. Like Delta-Beta, it causes a 'melt down', in the brain. It can do anything from amnesia, coma, or temporary damage to the nervous system. In one case it has even caused death, but that was in it's testing stages before Anrui refined it.

Restart-0xx~ This virus is among Anrui's less harmful creations. It's mainly set for The World, but is rarely used. It can be sent through private messages and message boards. Once activated, it erases all data on the account and computer being used. It 'restarts' everything back to how a character was at level 1, without being hacked, and how a computer was when it was first bought. It can only break through 'basic' security, however. Anything more advanced will easily keep it away. If all memory and data is lost, however, there are ways to get it back.

Project~ A set of viruses made just for information gathering. There are four stages, or levels; Project-Disable, Project-Hunt, Project-Copy, and Project-Erase.

Project-Disable: It does as it would sound; it disables basic computer security software for sake of convenience. If able to get past it, it will disable the security, then rewrite it to allow the next three levels for the virus to enter.

Project-Hunt: The only virus that needs a direct command from Anrui. Once it is given a set of key words it goes through all data in the system and finds the best matches.

Project-Copy: Self-explanatory. It copies the files and data it finds, checks them for viruses, even thoes near-impossible to detect, and then sends them to Anrui's laptop.

Project-Erase: The final stage. It erases all viruses, even ones that weren't part of the Project set, and then itself. This virus can act independently of the set and be used just to debug a computer.

Lost~ Anrui's most 'dangerous' series of viruses. These can only be sent, like the Project series. But, it can be sent to something at random, or even to multiple computers at once. They only attack the human body, and do so the same way Delta-Zero does; through short shocks from any part of the computer. While it is unknown why Anrui even created this series, and even frightening to think of, they are never used. Each virus has to be 'activated' by her before being sent to the computer it will 'detonate' at. (All of the effects from the viruses are short and can be reversed.) There are seven Lost viruses, but only three are known, two of which are currently complete.

Lost-MA: MA stands for Memory Alteration. It treats the human brain as a hard-drive and goes through memories at random and 'deletes' them. It is the most unstable in the Lost series, but it's effects are the most easy to reverse though in the oddest of ways.

Lost-In-Thought: Cuts off all senses for a short period of time, but only that. So whoever has been hit with it still has the ability to think, talk, and move. Though the latter would bit extremely hard with no sense of touch, sight, or hearing.

Lost-AI (Incomplete): It will send an AI, or any conscious, from The World who's data has been programed in the virus into the body it attacks, thus sending the other 'conscious' into The World. It is the only virus that can act in a positive way by means of sending a conscious in The World that's stuck there due to their body in the Real World going into a coma, back into their body.

*whistles* wow. Those are nifty gadgets.

Data Reanimator

It is a side effect from getting blasted by The Dark Pker. it has the ability to form armor over Shura, exponentialy increasing all of his stats. The more Data he absorbs, the more armor it forms over him, but he also has the option to only use the data he has already obtained. It has the potential to also convert data he has absorbed into a diferent form, possibly stronger weapons, or if truly mastered, monsters, areas, or anything else the user can imagine. But, it can not create new data. it can only change data that is already avaiable.

Imagination's Dream

Arbiter's Diamond: A crystal the size of a palm that can pick up on virus fragments, or any other data fragment, and give the user the information on it. Was created by Anrui's late brother, and was given to her character on The World before he died.
