Well, for one thing, he's a near freak, so his reasoning is, 'if Mello even thinks that he can be better than Near, then he must be delusional'. And as for Raito- He just doesn't understand the delicate workings of Raito's obsessed mind. And he's ** that Raito killed L, no matter how indirectly.

I don't like Near....

A lot of people who call Raito delusional don't understand the way he works. I find it sad.

Ah, I've always wanted to find the doujinka too, but it's... hard. I know for a fact that she/he draws both Mello/Near and Mello/Matt. Like in here.

I'm sure you'll recognize the side profile of Mello... this person has a way with side views that's unique. So I can recognize it. Also, she/he has a sketchy style, and the coloring looks like watercolors, though it might be computer-generated.

Oh, this is a Mello thread..I should share my thoughts on him then. Um...

Mello is so cool and hot! :p... I don't even know how I came to like him so much as a character... I just saw him in vol.7 of the manga and thought "He's... he's amazing! OMG, he is totally an awesome character!" haha...

I hated Mello at first, but he grew on me. I don't know how but he just did. He's my favorite character from the series and tbh I don't know why.

No, really I know how you feel. I wasn't all to fond of Mello when he first set foot on the stage, and as the story progressed (along with my hatred of Near) I really began to like him. He was interesting, fun to watch, and had just the right amount of sizzle.

The fact that he took over the Mob only adds to hiss coolness factor. lol

I think people like him because he would be the underdog. Mello was always second to Near and he doesn't have all of the resources that Near has. He had to really work to make his mafia connections and by the hard work he gets the death note first. He's the person that we would usually call the hero of the story, but he's not.

I wouldn't call him the hero of the story. At the point Mello was introduced into the story most readers pretty much knew that Death Note had no definite hero. But I can see what your saying, and I think that one reason why so many people like him is because of how he operated. It's not just that he was the underdog, or that he had to work hard, but it's the fact that he choose to do things his own way. He didn't care if someone termed his actions has legally, or socially acceptable. He figured he could do it best that way, and so he did.

And that may be another reason why people are drawn to Mello. He's determined to succeed, to win. He wants to be the best, and will have nothing get in his way.

I only started really liking Mello a month ago. Until then, he was just another character in the story. In my mind, he only had an importance level equal to Misa's. But I realized how awesome he was. Mello~~~
