Note that Mihael is an extremely Russian name. Trust me, I am partly Russian and speak the language. If something is German, then it's his surname.

Find what and where? I travel a lot and speak several languages. My references are there, in my own experience. For what it's worth, I may be wrong.

Me too. Not German, though. Every generation of my family have different nationalities. So I'm Russian/Lithuanian/English and then I live in Sweden. I have often wondered if I lack something, when not having the feeling to belong to a country or have a particular nationality. Then again, I'm grateful for the languages I can speak.

Is it only me, or is the number of people with mixed nationalities higher outside Sweden? Here it's somewhat rare, I think.

Guam - the Christmas Islands. Cool. Don't go to Sweden, and not my town either. I speak four languages, three of them fluently (Russian, Lithuanian and Swedish) and English with very rare, occasional flaws, plus learning two more. I know a little French also, not too perfect though.

I know Spanish, but not perfectly.

I speak some French, but more Japanese and German!( .....Fangirl time) I think some part of me fell in love with Matt after L died. Near was too cherubic, and Mello kind of scared me. *laugh* Matt's death in the anime makes me sick. Literally! I'm just in love with Matt, ack. The guy who does his voice in English DOES sound hot, but I like his Jap voice better. And the voice I imagined him with. *nod/giggle*

Where did you get affectionate? There's no evidence of that in the manga or anime. Nor is there any evidence of him being sympathetic.

We'll he's just soooo hot and awesome-ness, that you just can't help but add in a few make-believe characteristics of your own! That's what I do! (Maybe that's not such a good thing) But anyway, who says you can't dream a few things up?!

What can you even say about Matt? He's in the anime about 5 minutes. I don't know about the manga, though, so I'm just saying this from the viewpoint of never having read the manga.

We know he's confident, believes in himself, is loyal to Mello, smokes, and likes video games. Really, that's all we know about him, and the first 2 are extrapolated from the scene where he's killed. Anyway, I just don't really get why he gets so much hype. I don't even think the makers of (anime) Death Note expected him to even be remembered very much. -shrugs-

The reason people remember Matt is because we know so little about him. All we have is this steriotypical bad-** cool guy profile of him, and then we watch him get drilled into with multiple bullets. How does that not draw sympathy from the reader?

We like Matt because we can mould him to our own liking, create a character that's still cannon, yet also our own. Our minds picture him as they please, and because of that he becomes exactly what we want him to be.

Mmhm, I see what you're saying there. So it's because he's minor that people like him. Kind of like L (even though he's certainly not a minor character). One reason people love him is because we don't know a lot about his background, so we can insert our own. Great for fanfics.
