Pen Against SwordTopic: The Diamonds in the Rough Does anyone ELSE ever find it extremely frustrating, taxing, and just generally exasperating to try and find a few decent Yuffentines out there?Sure, there's about five million one-shots to choose from and a select few of those are even worth reading. But what about the epics? What about the stories that are long and enthralling and well-written and in-character? I have seen and know only a few of these, and have yet to find more than two that are finished. In fact, they don't have to be finished, but I would very much like to see some good epics. The endless sifting through disappointing C2 Communities and the weary perusal of countless author's favorite's lists tends to get a wee bit old. Anyone out there care to help my search and the search of plenty of other Yuffentine fans and writers out there? I am making a list of some of the Yuffentines, off the top of my head, that I have found and enjoy. If you would like to help me on my quest, just post Yuffentines that you have found to your satisfaction. "The Materia Hunter"--by Drywater "Broken Stars"--by JanuaryBlue Any Yuffentine by the author Rose Flame. Particularly "Faith and Feather" and "Tales From The Less Than Well Equipped." "Learning How to Breathe"--by Faronon Star Wolf "Why Me? A Love Story for Manic Depressives"--by Dust Traveller "Darkest Shades"--by Cerebral Seductress "Sunshine in Winter"--by Guardian1 "Growth" and "Autumn Song"--by Enkida Any Yuffentines by the author Nagia. These, as of right now, are all that I can think of off the top of my busy little cranium. So, please oh-please, for the sake of a fellow Yuffentine lover, help with the search for the proverbial diamonds in the rough. Sincerely, Pen Against Sword | #1 Feb 06th 2006, 6:17pm . Yeyana ValentineHmm... You have a very good point...My best advice is to join the two Yuffentine fanclubs in the groups section, on Yahoo.com... One is owned by me, and isn't QUITE as popular as the other, which is owned by a fanfiction writer herself, G. Zan ... The members are also some of the best. Of the best! Fanfiction writers out there, Nagia being one of them... And Enkida and I being two of the mods. ^_^ So look up! |
Faronon Star WolfOh, my! This is an honor. ^__^ Thank you! |

NagiaYay, my LJ-Wife is on the list!! Go Farfar!! GOOOOOO~~~~ FARFAR!!Ahem. Some of my favourites: Tamatebako -- Karasu Kurokiba Awesome. Delirious. Beautiful. Break All The Porcelain -- Karasu Kurokiba She hates this fic of hers; I maintain that it is SHEEREST BRILLIANCE. But That Was In Another Country -- Guardian1 Anything Guardian1 writes is pretty much GUARANTEED to make me cry. Like a little baby. This fic is no exception. (Oh god, reading Go Not Gently made me sob and sob and sob and sob.... I actually had to -go hug my dog-.) Running Away from The Sky -- Cerebral Seductress She certainly seduces my brain. This fic was the inspiration for Looking Glass (no, I'm not saying how). Landslide -- Enkida I confess, it's a guilty pleasure. And oooh, do I feel guilty. But it's so damn YUMMY. Sink to the Bottom With You -- Catalina Catalina = sock-rocking goodness. Sadly, the fic is incomplete, and it doesn't look it ever WILL be complete. And Yeyana, Pen-Against-Sword, you're shameless flatterers. I'm not that good. Now stop it! |
Pen Against SwordAnd Yeyana, Pen-Against-Sword, you're shameless flatterers. I'm not that good. Now stop it!Pssht. Yah, sure. Okey dokey then. Don't mind me if I go on...not believing you. I'm officially shameless. Thank you for your help, Nagia, but it seems that I've read most of those, just forgot to put them on the list. I will check through the ones I haven't read, however. If you can get anyone else to meander over to this thread and help my efforts, I would greatly appreciate it. Cheers, Pen Against Sword |

Yeyana Valentine^_^ Heh. I only give respect where it's due... |

Drywater"Sunshine In Winter" by Guardian1 is my favorite Yuffentine of all time, I think. Wonderfully written piece.Nagia, you're so talented! I especially enjoyed your "Operation: Exploding Jellyfish!" story. It had me cracking up so bad. Wow, I'm so flattered that my story got listed since it hasn't gotten edited over yet. It still bugs me with all the tense-switching screw-ups.. *dies* Oh, I forgot to mention one thing. A while ago, when I was commissioning a prop shuriken for my Yuffie cosplay, (yea, I'm one of THOSE freaks.), I happened to commission from this one lady who was also a graphic designer/artist. While I was sifting through her site one day, I totally jumped out of my skin when I came across her work with Dust Traveller and his incredible work, "Why Me? A Love Story For Manic Depressives". So if you'd like to see that collaboration, take a peek at her website. ^_^ http://amethyst-angel.com/whyme.html | #7 Feb 26th 2006, 4:04pm . Edited Feb 26th 2006, 4:19pm

NagiaLooks like DT is putting most of his work into his other amazingly awesome epic fic, Going On (Invader Zim, post-apocalyptic).There's a newbie around, though, and she's pretty good... I'd suggest checking out the Yuffentine community on LiveJournal for her stuff. It was recently posted. Alack, but I can't remember the URL... |
DrywaterLiveJournal... I'll definitely have to check that out. Thank you!Gosh, there are Yuffentine communities everywhere... I think it's kind of odd how it has a lot of fans and supporters, and yet, there are very few people who are neutral to this pairing. You either like it or hate it. Huh.. ~Drywater |

Mirime VYI was looking for Vincent/Yuffie doujinshi and I found this site:http://www.art-engineer.de/engl/sink_engl.html It is a manga based on Sink to the Bottom with You. There are only first four chapters up so far, but it is great.... | #10 Apr 04th 2006, 4:24am

Yeyana ValentineAh! I actually remember finding that one, a long time ago... I had printed out one of the pages in the first chapter (which, might I add, was all there was back then)...| #11 Apr 06th 2006, 2:38pm . Edited Apr 07th 2006, 10:15am

QuenyaIn my humble opinion of simple reader (most of you guys writed stories that are currently in my favorite list...I'm a little shy here ^_^) here's some of my favorites that haven't been mentioned:any Yuffentine by T.Costa, 'The Animal I Have Become' just for naming one. I love all her works: they're long, well written and with a very good characterization. 'A door beyond absolution' by StormScarred: 15 chapters, ongoing; A novelization of the game, and one of the best in my opinion. I believe it's a well known fic in the Yuffentine category. 'Serendipity' (5 chapters, complete) and its sequel 'Arrhythmia' (9 chapters, sadly on hiatus ;_;) by Aliet Faslami: great stories that shows the growth of their relationship from a casual meeting, to frienship and more. She helped him in a moment of need, and then never left his side. 'The Flame of you' by Kittie Darkhart: 21 chapters, complete; maybe Yuffie and Vincent are a bit ooc here, but their love story it's one of the most intense that I've ever read, along with ...oh well, most of all the ones mentioned here :) 'Ninja' by Kai-ou-sama: 21 chapters, incomplete. A very intriguing story, with a 'real' vampire side of ours favorite gunslinger. Unfortunately it's on hiatus too...but it's worth your time. 'Much ado about Yuffie' by Guardian1: 3 chapters, complete; short, in comparization of others works of the same author, but so sweet. Maybe the only one of her stories that didn't make me weep like a baby. I hope that it could be useful :P | #15 Oct 22nd 2007, 2:02am

Vincent-and-Yuffie-FOREVERThe very, very, VERY BEST Yuffentine you will EVER find is the wonderful, believable "Sink to the Bottom With You" by Catalina. When I saw the doujinshi of it I freaking thought that it was a real manga that square enix was making, but, of course, it wasn't. Anyways, "A Door Beyond Absolution" is okay and it has the best, sweetest Yuffentine lemon I've ever read! "Ninja" is just plain funny and cool. "Ninja and the Demon" is probably my second favorite Yuffentine(next to "Sink", of course)Its a FFVII version of Beauty and the Beast which is my favorite old disney movie. Also, my own Yuffentine is well on it's way to becoming a pretty good fanfic, but be warned: its my very first fanfic..........YUFFENTINES RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!| #16 Dec 27th 2007, 5:20pm

raspberry soapThis thread is awesome. I've just started looking for Yuffentines, but was kind of put off by the idea of searching through a bunch of poorly written fics to only possibly find good ones. Thank you guys for posting all these fanfictions here. I never expected to see so many of them. ^^ *goes off to start reading the long list of stories* | #17 Apr 08th 2008, 8:08pm

AveiraI love that story, I'm so excited she's been updating it more recently. I'm somewhat surprised no one has mentioned lynn.reist. She's amazingly talented, Convergence http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4318864/1/Convergence is one of my favorites, or Logic http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4604020/1/Logic. |
WretchedOneConvergence is great. Some of the sexiness started to wear on my nerves after a while in later chapters, but the first chapter is absolutely priceless. "I retract all previous doubts about your ... affection for each other." I crack up every time I read that scene. One of my personal faves (has anyone already mentioned this one? I don't think so, but maybe I missed it...) is "Echoes of Silence, So Loud in the Night" by YesAnimeCharactersCanBeSexy. It's Vincent and Yuffie at their best and Vincent-est and Yuffie-est. It's taut with emotion, dizzying and beautiful. And just for the sake of it, I'll mention that "And When That Day Comes" by Nagia is the story that got me into Yuffentine in the first place when I was just a newbie to the FF7 fandom. But other, more established people have already mentioned that one, so I won't repeat their words. :) |
Falling rainI was reading through this topic and wondering -Why isn't one of my favourite Yuffentines ever mentioned- and then I realised. The writer is the person who started this thread... :D And so, I have to recommend: A Fine Line, by Pen Against Sword ..I adored that fic. ^^ In Memoriam, by Mengde is lovely too. Roots by La Editor is nice, just a bit shorter than the epic you would have wished for. (I looked through the other posts to make sure no one has recommended these fics yet :) ) |
Pen Against SwordD'aww, thanks Falling Rain. I am rather proud of that one, actually. 33 |
La EditorBwaa, ditto. Thanks, Falling Rain. :3 Roots is a junk-pile, but I'm not utterly embarrassed by it, now that I think about it. I'm trying to rack my brain so as not to spam, but... well, Lynn and Yaccy have been mentioned. Pen and Mengde, as mentioned, have some great stories - especially Pen's 'Guilt By Association,' 'I See London, I See France' (oh, gawd, the mental images burn, but in a funny way) and I will admit that my favorite of all Mengde's stories will always be 'Handcuffs.' ...Hurr. La has nothing else to offer, please refrain from hitting me for such a worthless post. I trust Marilena has some wonderful pieces, though I haven't actually had a chance to read them. 'Sable and Ivory' looks like it will be easy to devour, though, I've had it bookmarked for the longest time to peruse it when I have actual, non-procrastinating free time. |
Falling rainErm like...KYAAAAAA twoauthorsthatIreallylikedrepliedtothisthread.... -kya kya kya- I'm sorry this is a bit of spam but ohmygosh, I am a fan!!!!! -coughs- To ensure that this isn't entirely spam... Grey Sky Morning by Rose Flame (I know her works have been recommended but I like this particular one - because Vincent as a demon attacking a village is way cool :D ) -goes off to squueeee in her own little world- (and do excuse the lack of spaces in my previous post. I'm not sure why that happened and I haven't found the 'Edit' button yet -.-) |
serenbachMost of my favourites have been mentioned already but I also absolutely love 'Dragonfly' by Jupiter Green, 'Untamed Laughter' by BruHaeven and 'Restless' by the Rickaboo. |
AveiraUm, you left yourself out. You are awesome :) and Restless is pretty freaking fantastic. Valentine'sNinja has to be one of my all time favorites, though. Especially 'Princess of Theives' and 'Knight in Shining Armor' they make me extra happy. There are a lot of really amazing authors out there! |
serenbach*Blushes* Thanks. I agree with you on 'Princess of Thieves' as well. Also, I love your 'Oxygen.' |

sylvaniusIt's definitely annoying trying to find a really good one though I have a few favourites...they've all pretty much been mentioned here though and I can't think of any others off the top of my head. I think the majority of the reason there are so few good ones is because, on top of the fact that a lot of the fanfic out there just sucks, they can be difficult characters to write (especially before Dirge of Cerberus came out...very little character info to go off of) and therefore a really difficult pairing to write...especially in a realistic way. Personally the minute I open up a fic and by the fourth line it goes something like this 'oh Vin-vin-vineroonie-vinny-vin I love you' 'oh Yuffie, most beautiful white rosed ninja I've seen the error of my ways and I love you too, let's get married!'...I'm out of there. It makes me want to cry. The only thing that bothers me more than the troubles of finding a good one.....is when the good ones are never finished...(Sink to the Bottom With You, anyone? I loved that one so much....and I didn't realize it wasn't finished when I started..and all of a sudden..it just stopped...that was such a sad day.) |

QuenyaThere's an incredible little diamond who's showing itself recently on ff.net: it's called 'The Divine and Atonement' by Isanarya and, in my personal scale, it's quickly reaching the same level as what I call the 'golden trio' (Faith and Feathers/Growth/Sink in the bottom with you). This story has everything I've always wished to find in a good yuffentine: it's incredibly well written, has a great plot with believable Ocs, a solid 'starting event' and what it could be a first class villain; plus, the author managed to create one of the best Yuffie's characterization that I've ever, ever, read: physically and mentally strong, confident in her abilities, commanding when she needed to be AND even graceful and feminine. The story showed a more serious side of her as ruler of Wutai, but at the same time keep her characteristic mischievousness that make her the Yuffie we all know and like, only a little more mature and grown up. Vincent, for his part, is very IC and NOT a walking emotionless mummy as often described elsewhere. The slow pace of their relationship is also perfect, but what really interested me is the apparent reversal of their usual roles: at the current state of the story it seems that is Vincent who's falling for Yuffie, while she seem to be more friendlike than else, if not a little disinterested. When I realized that, I totally rejoiced: it's so rare to find a yuffentine so original, that is quite refreshing. So, if you don't know about it, I strongly suggest to go and check this story like, right now here's the link : http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2991218/1/The_Divine_and_Atonement (Note: yeah I know that I've basically summarized my review to her story here, but english isn't my first language and I've spent almost 3 hours in writing it, so pls forgive me for choosing a shortcut :P) | #34 Apr 03rd, 10:21am . SorrelstarI recommend Waiting for Springtime by serenbach It's amazing, and original. I think it's like a fresh breath in the Yuffentine pages. |
Kurogane7I would have to agree with you on that. "Princess of Thieves" is by far one of the finer Yuffentines I've read thus far...although "Oxygen" has yet to be completed, it's still very good. Other than that, the Yuffentines by Sorceress Fujin, particularly "Property of Valentine", are rather good despite the fact that several of them are incomplete. By the way, how goes the writing for "Waiting for Springtime"? |
serenbachI've had a lot of messages about Waiting for Springtime, so just to let you know I have updated it. Thanks! :) |
IsanaryaWOW! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Really...just...gosh! That my story would even be mentioned in conjunction to those fabulous three...just...thank you! You say such wonderful things about my story. I am truly honored. I didn't expect my story to even make a blip on the radar when I started writing it. So thank you again Quenya for your very kind and uplifting words! |
Kurogane7Actually, your story does get blips...it's just that you don't get as many reviews as either Sorceress Fujin, or T. Costa, or even Serenbach herself...sighwhat I wouldn't do to get as many reviews that you get for "Divine and Atonement" that I would for my Yuffentines...I've had to resort to advertising my stories in reviews in order to get people to even read them! Pathetic isn't it? Sure, I get "favorite author", "favorite story", and quite a few subscriptions a plenty, but not enough reviews...how I do envy you. Although do keep it up with "The Divine and Atonement"...I'm dying for more chapters, and especially for "Yuffie and the Beast", which I hope will update any time soon now. |
ShtitI second Quenya's recommendation of Isanarya's The Divine and Atonement, it is without a doubt my favorite FanFiction story. Quenya described it much better than I could, so read her message, but really this is a fantastic story. And I don't limit it to just one of the best Yuffentine's, but one of the best Final Fantasy VII stories and all stories in general. For me it is the way Isanarya writes, her descriptions especially. It is so easy to relate to, not the whole, I'm a dude with a claw and a demon inside of me way, but the relationships of the characters. Not to mention, as Quenya referenced, Isanarya's evolution of Yuffie. This story sold me on FanFic's, though I have found this story is indeed a diamond in the rough. This story is completely amazing, read it - you'll love it too. Trust me, I'm a doctor. | #40 Aug 06th, 12:38pm . Edited Aug 06th, 5:09pm

Eliza MoonchildI do agree with you on finding some decent Yuffentine fanfiction. I am a HARDCORE Yuffentine fan and I prefer it when the charatcers STAY in character. Perhaps, you would like to read my "Blossom" fanfic? I try think it's my best work so far and I'm pretty proud of it. |
Treasure Princess~"HATE YOUR HEROES" by BUCKLE is one of the best FFVII fics I've ever read ^^ though romance is not really in the spotlight,..yuffie and vinners have some great scenes here..not to mention the awesome plot. |
