Topic: My faves for both the Circle and the Alanna series
In The Circle books, I really admire Daja because she's a survivor She's taken everything life's thrown at her, and she's lasted when most people would have collapsed. I also like her because she's unassuming and cool. Briar needs too much attention, Tris is too much of a moody little girl, and Sandry is too care free. Daja--miss Fire girl--is totally chill.

In the Alanna books, I am a fan of George. Always have liked the guy. I guess I'm a sucker for hazel eyes and a respectable fellow. What can I say?

yes, George. gentlemenly-like, strong, social status (thief king's gotta count for something right?) and yet he's a bit of a risk (again: HE'S THE FREAKING AWESOME THIEF KING!)

Merry Christmas! (sorry bout my sugar-highness! ^__^;;) I was beginning to think I was the only George luvr left...

Thanks for making this applicable to Circle characters, too. They seem to get passed over a lot. Well, Tris and Rosethorn are my definite favorites; I have a thing for people with tempers. They just entertain me vastly. In the Alanna books, I like George. He beat Jon fair and square, and he's just so schmexy.

Am I the only one who's favorite Tortallian character is George without having a crush on the guy? He reminds me of my dad. ^-^ I also like Aly and Nwat. (Is that how you spell the name?)

And my favorite Winding Circle people are Briar, Rosethorn, Lark, and Daja.

I've heard Daja gets a girlfriend in a later book I haven't read. Is that true?

Yeah, Daja gets a girlfriend in WotE, can't remember her name right now...

My favorite characters in the Circle books were Briar and Sandry. I also really liked Tris too. As for the books set in Tortall, my favorite characters were Numair+Daine=...NUMAINE!!!!! (a bit sugar-high here...)

Cool. I'll make a note to get a hold of that book sooner. I've never really liked Namair and Daine together. It just feels wrong. I'd been thinking of him like he was her father up to TRotG.

hmm... my fave characters from the circle books are Briar and Rosethorn. My fave characters from the alanna books are...Alanna, George, Daine, Numair, Kel, Neal, Rikash, and Tkaa!!! Tkaa is my most favorite character and I don't know anybody else that likes him.

Lol, Tkaa's awesome...

Ha, I know Daja's girlfriend's name now: Rizu. But then they broke up...

Heh, I've never read WotE... or any of the Circle opens books. I've read Sandry's book and I started Tris's book, but I'm going to finish PotS first... and re-read RotG...

in the circle books, i like both brair and rosethorn, mostly because of their attitudes.

PotS is Protector of the Small. And you mean WotE. Will of the Emperess. It's the latest book in the Winding Circle series.

And in it, Peirce does 'go lezzie' as you put it. Daja gets together with a girl named Rizu, and.. Gee! There's another one, too. ^^ My favorite. I supported it even before it became canon! xD But I'm not going to ruin the surprise for you.

*waves arms wildly at Gawain* What?!?!? Is this in WotE?!?!?!

What? You haven't read WotE, Sarra? Yes, it is. Two 'lezzie' couples in WotE. xD I'm so proud of Tammy.

Sarralyn Numairsri
*shakes head wildly* No, I HAVE read WotE! But I completely missed the second one!
#16 Dec 18th 2006, 6:03pm
Sir Gawain of Camelot
Ah. Well, not surprising, really. ^^ You have to read carefully to catch it. It's only mentioned once, and the characters don't appear in the story as such. It's Lark and Rosethorn. When Briar walks in on Daja and Rizu, he tells her that she should have told them about it. After all, she should know they wouldn't have a problem with it, what with Lark and Rosethorn.

Wish I could give you a page number, but I only borrowed it from the library.

*lightbulb flashes on over her head* Oh, that one! I remember that--I knew about that one. It just completely slipped my mind...I guess I thought it was revealed in earlier books or something...

xD Nope. It's a WotE revelation that made me jump around the room yelling.

Maybe we scared her off with our enthusiasm for the 'lezzies'?

Daja rocks, it's true. I'd like to date Briar though (swoon). Gotta say, though, Rosethorn's pretty cool too... I always liked her.

As for Tortall, Kel come out on top of everyone. She's the best! Right after Kel comes Owen of Jesslaw (I can't help it: he's so cute!). Then there's Raoul of Goldenlake (I think that's his title; it's almost 2:00 in the morning and I'm really sleepy) and then comes Buri. That's all that I can remember in my sleep deprived state right now...

Daja's too cool for what?

Although, what ever it is, I'm sure you're right. Or, since she works with molten metal, maybe she's too hot. ^-~

Sorry 'bout that; first real time I've ever gotten into a forum. I relpied to a bunch of different posts at once without realizing it. Oopssss....

What I meant was that Daja's too coll to go lesbian on us. Dude, she was fine the way she was! I've gotta get Will of the Empress and read it now; I'd like to know what Madame Pierce is doing while I'm not paying attention.

xD As a member of the homosexual community, I don't quite agree with you on that one...

*raises hand* Me, too. (But just to clear things up, I am not a homosexual. I've had too many crushes on boys for that.)

Oh. Sorry. Homosexuals are alright in general, but for some reason I can't quite picture Daja as one.

Sir Gawain of Camelot
S' fine. It's almost cute when people get all embarrassed when they're told. xD They tend to get all awkward.

Well, it takes some getting used to for some people, a charcter turning out a way you weren't expecting. I, personally, thought it fit her like a glove. If I were told one of the four were gay, Daja would have been my first guess. Briar would be the close second, but that changed with WotE. xD All his girl-chasing.

I also love Tammy for working one of us into her books without making it a big deal, or the focus of the book. That doesn't happen often. Either it's a book /about/ homosexuality, or it's all straight. xD And it's her way of proclaiming her support. I love supporters. Like Sarra here. *hugs*

#35 Jan 14th 2007, 5:28pm

Yeah, I do get kinda akward. I know what I wanna say, but I don't want to seem insensitive and make people angry!

And I don't see why you would have guessed Daja first if you were told that one of the four was gay (personally, my first guess would have been Tris!) And Briar was your second? What the shoot are you talking about? He couldn't be father away from being gay than a lemon trying to be the sun! (or at least I think so).

Who's Sarra?

#36 Jan 15th 2007, 12:01am
Sir Gawain of Camelot
*shrugs* I dunno? My gaydar? ^-~ I think Briar because... Well, it's hard to explain. But he has this aura of responsibility, calmness, and maturity that I've seen in more gay boys than straight. You know what they say, "All the good ones are gay." xD (...oh, god. I just rhymed.) It makes the other gay boys happy. But I think it might also be wishful thinking on my part. xD

And don't worry about getting me mad, hun. I don't. It's one of my Rules For Life. “Don't get mad about important things. It never helps.” xD Right up there alongside 'Never ** of a pregnant Latino lady.' All of them learned through experience...

Sarra is Sarralyn Numairsri. The other one who's been posting on this thread. ^^

Responisbility and maturity? A lot of time must have passed between TCO and WotE, because I never really saw Briar exhibiting either of those traits. How old were they in WotE?

Whew... That's a major relief. I'll carry that advice with me forever.

Okay, now I see who you were talking about. I thought it was someone completely unrealated.

#38 Jan 15th 2007, 2:23pm
Sir Gawain of Camelot
Think about it. In Briar's Book, how old was he? Thirteen, fourteen? He helped try and fight off a plague, dealt with death on a daily basis, and saved his teacher's life - almost at the expense of his own. In Street Magic he took on the responsibilities of teacher and caretaker for a girl off the streets, and followed through with them to an extent many adults wouldn't have. And he's trusted to control his magic. xD Seems rather responsible and mature to me.

One doesn't have to be serious or grim to be responsible. xD

#39 Jan 15th 2007, 3:07pm
Freida Right
In the first quartet, he was 10. In Street Magic, he was 14. But I guess you have some valid points. He was still an average kid in some ways. I mean, come on: a teenage boy can be really stupid sometimes. Not all the time, but sometimes, deffinetly. Responsible, a lot of the time, yeah; mature... I don't know if I'd go that far.

*waves to Freida* Hi!

*hugs Gawain back*

Mature...for Briar's age at the time, he was. But in general, not -that- mature.

My favorite character in the Circle of Magic series is, well, I don't have just one. I like Briar, Sandry, Daja, and Tris equally the most, followed by Lark and Rosethorn. In the Circle Opens, my favorite characters are Evvy and Glaki. In the Tortall books, I can't decide between Alanna, Daine, Kel, and Aly. My favorite new characters are Beka and Rosto.

I have no idea why but I really love Niko. He is so cool - all posh and stuff but still really cool. In the Alanna series I really like George - he's funny and charming and so much sweeter than Jonathon - and way more faithful! In the Daine series my fav was probably noble and loyal Rikash - Numair fans don't kill me please! In Kel's stories I loved Dom - hot and nice and smart - and Joren - hot and smart and with that attractive bit of terrible childhood making him even more attractive. Oh and I really liked Taybur - his sense of humor and all that.

Da One Me to Pwn You All

I love George, altough he was pretty much written for readers to love... I mean, he's perfect.

I also really like Cleon. I hate how people always bash him... Alright, so he and Kel didn't get married and she fell out of love with with, but he's still cool! And awesome in a rather idiotic fashion, ya knw?

I don't really know who my favorite Circle character is. I've only read those books once, and only because they were by Tammy. I didn't like them as much as Tortall.

My favorite pairing is probably Daine/Numair. And to everyone who says that 14 years is too big of a difference, here's a thought: In Lioness Rampant, Alanna was about 20. Liam was 34 (He told her that he started SHang-ing at age 4, 30 years ago). That's the same age difference as Daine and Numair... And Alanna and Liam had ballads written about them:)
