Topic: RECOMMENDATIONS for our Archive - Stories that need some attention!

If you know of any stories that deserve to be archived in the Reviews Lounge C2 community, give us their details!

To qualify for archiving, the stories must be either:

1. Oneshots with less than 20 reviews; or

2. Chaptered stories with an average of less than 15 reviews per chapter

I must stress that with the community archive so crowded these days, only the best stories are going to be added. Mind you, as the quality is generally fantastic, many go in anyway =) thanks everyone!

- Lexie

Edit again (from Cuba):

If you want to recommend a story, here's the new guidelines. It just makes it easy for us as mods to read the stories.

Title:

Author:

Length: (chapters/words)

Character(s):

Summary:

By the way, here is the link to the C2 community, and I encourage you all to go and check it out, stat!

Hello. :) I know a couple good HP fics that I read recently. I see you have already added "The Mysterious Master" by An Aspiring Author to your community list; that was a good one. I have three more that could fit onto the list:

"Le Cadavre Exquis" by SuGaRLiLy, also by SuGaRLiLy "What's in a Name", and "Birthday Surprise" by spikescrypt.

Hello again... im about to have a rant. because i just read the most amazing fic.

The Six Degrees of Drunkeness by BC Daily. WOW

it's very funny, and clever, and extremely well written.... and (gasp) under reviewed! so i added it to the community

YOU HAVE TO READ IT

i think part of the reason i like this so much is that lily's thoughts on drunkeness, and her behaviour while drunk, and james' polite and pateint amusement and bewilderness regarding her drunkeness, describe exactly a night my boyfriend and i experienced. well, almost.

but that just goes to show its so REAL!

so read this fic, even if you're supposed to be writing an 8 page essay on the criminal justice system due tomorrow *coughs*

because it is completely worth it!

(and im very angry at it too since it was very similar to what i have coming up in a chappy of mischief managed, and now i have to go change it) o well....

READ AND REVIEW people, it makes your authors smile!

Cool, I'll go check it out in a little bit. By the way, you said: "on another note, im tossing up whether i should get some more attention for this little 'movement' of mine, or do u think i should just let it be for now? im not really sure lol..." What did you have in mind for getting more attention?

Yeah, I know what you mean--it's hard to convince people to check something out if they really aren't interested or motivated. I posted a little thing on my profile about the community to help you out a little bit. Oh, and here's another good story that's underreviewed: "Beyond All Hope" by Hasufel.

Lexie-H
wow i like your little attention fellow writers or whatever it was.... thats fantastic, thanks so much! i'll add a note to my next chapter of mischief managed. that should get some attention considering the absurd amount of people who seem to be reading it!

speaking of motivating people, i really hope hasufel decides to keep going, although if u look at the last posted date it doesnt look likely. another great find! would u consider being a "staff" member? u find so many good stories that i dont really need to veto ur adding them, as long as they go with the criteria... (if you like, otherwise this is fine!)

#9 Apr 24th 2007, 6:44am
PurpleArmadillo
Sure, I'd be honored to be one of your staff members. Um, kind of a dumb question here, but what exactly do staff members do, lol? I know they can submit stories to communities, but that's about all I know. You can tell I've never been asked to become one before, :)

lol yes i think thats pretty much it... just means you dont need to go through me! plus that should make you a moderator here too. check out "the protest" topic (or whatever its called, the introductory one?) because prieda solo has just told me about the "review revolution" which seems like a very very similar cause!!!

all righty, Purple Armadillo, to become a moderator, go into your Login thingo, click forums and go to moderation. copy and paste this code:

no one else can use this code, it will only be recognised if you (PurpleArmadillo) put it in, so dont anyone else reading this bother to try please!!!

Hey, thanks! I put it in. Also thanks for the heads up about the "review revolution" thing. I'll do that too. By the way, you live in Australia right? I wonder what the time difference is from there to the US. (I live in Massachusetts). Just curious because I noticed that you normally post on here while it's nighttime where I am.

lol i post at all random times tho cos i have some days off from uni and i stay on late at night sometimes too.... so it doesnt mean much if i post at your night time! if u dont mind me asking, whats ur real name? its cool if u dont wanna tell me lol

Massachusetts is definitely interesting this year, lol. We had no snow all winter until Feb. and now that's it's finally spring we just had snow last month I think. But then again, New England weather is supposedly crazy like that. Sure explains why the weather people over here are wrong so often.

My real name's Samantha. Here's another interesting thing about me: I was actually born in Witchita Kansas. I didn't live on a farm though--that's what everybody asks me, lol :)

hey samantha, lovely to meet you!!! kansas sounds pretty cool lol. im so jealous that you actually GET snow! we'r in a massive drought so we're lucky to get rain, let alone snow hahaha (its never snowed in sydney, eyer). can remember talking to my friend on snow days and was SO jealous... and it may be some global warming screw-ups more than crazy new england weather, our seasons have been screwing around too... scary stuff! how old were u wen u left kansas?

hey - i have a question. does mischief managed deserve to be placed on the community? seeing as how im the author its a little hard to look at it objectively! opinions please?
#19 Apr 29th 2007, 1:15am
PurpleArmadillo
Well, you said that for a multi-chapter story to go on the community it can't have over 20 reviews per chapter, right? You've got ten chapters, so let's see... twenty reviews per chapter would be 200 total. Mischief Managed definitely fits in the community; I'll include it if you want on my list :)

haha thanks. i just didnt want to put my own stuff on there - im not sure why. self promotion, perhaps? anywho.... loving your work scouting out new stories!

Hey- just wanted to make a recommendation.

I don't know if anyone has read anything by Lady Bracknell, but she writes a lot of really awesome Remus/Tonks stories- most of which are under-reviewed. She has maybe a handfull of others- one on Sirius ('Clouds in my Coffee' I think?) that was particularly good. I highly recommend checking them out.

awesome. can't remember if i've seen her stuff or not. the name is familiar but thats it's from the Importance of Being Earnest which i absolutely adore! (if you haven't been introduced to Oscar Wilde, you're missing out) but i will def have a look!
#23 May 01st 2007, 8:26pm
SuGaRLiLy
I love Oscar Wilde. We did 'Importance of Being Earnest' last yr. We had to do a mock trial charging him with being a sodomite. It was great fun. =]
#24 May 01st 2007, 8:32pm
Lexie-H
that's fantastic. i own the complete works of Oscar Wilde. altho the picture of dorian grey depresses me immencely, you can't go past it for a book with the most fantastic descriptions, ever.

"I don't play accurately - anyone can play accurately - but i play with wonderful expression"

Actually, i think i write by this one: "The very essence of romance is uncertainty."

Absolutely true. LOVE O.W.

Well, I think we moved FAR beyond love in my english class last year. We had an OW Action Figure! Oh yes. We were hardcore. =]
#26 May 02nd 2007, 1:00pm
Lexie-H
an action figure? *impressed*

no, after studying Dorian Grey i was actually ready to shoot OW. basically because its such a horrible ending. poor basil. he didnt even give him a good name...

i just love the plays. theyr awesome. especially Earnest, and lady windmere.

Dorian Grey is a wonderful book, in hindsight. but i'm pretty sure that if our class had have had an OW action figure when we were studying him, that poor little doll would have come to a similarly nasty demise.

#27 May 03rd 2007, 1:02am
SuGaRLiLy
I agree about Dorian Grey. My English teacher kept our action figure safe from harm in a drawer in her desk, though.

He really is quite a nifty action figure. He's got this cool cane, and a purple coat with tails and matching top hat, and a bright, lime-green pantsuit on.

Importance of Being Earnest is definitely my favorite of his plays. Has anyone seen the movie with Reese Witherspoon?

#28 May 03rd 2007, 1:09pm

i have! its awesome. i wasnt too sure about reese but she did a good job! its a fantastic movie, and (funnily enough) stunningly written haha...

I agree, I agree.

This completely slipped my mind (and I'm kind of ashamed of it, and I'm sure you'll see why in a moment) but I wanted to recommend my Applebun's fic 'Heart's for Hagrid', not because she's my sister (I'm her toughest critic), but because I think she did an excellent job on it. Most impressively, the entire thing is written from Hagrid's point of view, and I thought she got his accent perfectly (which is always tricky for me). Anyway, give it a looksee!

Also, if anyone wants to read a short, but beautifully-written piece, I suggest 'Cliché' by lucerito-del-alma. It's a very interesting read.

#30 May 03rd 2007, 7:41pm
Lady Bracknell
Thank you for the pimp above - much appreciated.

You should definitely check out Bratanimus - she's one of my favourite fanfic writers, and her fic Friend or Foe is woefully under-reviewed. It's Remus/Lily, but a must for Remus fans in general. She's set up a compelling mystery surrounding Remus' entire family and Greyback - how and why he really got bitten, and her writing is engaging and evocative. I do a little happy dance every time she updates.

If you ever do decide to try something like this on LJ, let me know. I think it'd get a warm reception.

#31 May 04th 2007, 2:56am
Lexie-H
definitely have to check Bratanimus out then :-) i dont know how to negotiate my way around livejournal!!! *blushes* but maybe if we get a bit more of a following here! i still cant believe noone has had this idea before. shocked. anyway thanks so much Lady Bracknell - im glad you found this all right! :-D

So, I am procrastinating a bit more, and I was in the mood for some good Sirius-fic. I stumbled across statira's 'Duty'- a real gem, and severely under-reviewed (I left the first one!). It's a great little story about an interaction that occurs between Sirius and Bellatrix on the day he decides to leave his home for good. It has great description and presents a very unique and interesting perspective on the sort of relationship that Sirius and Bellatrix had. Enjoyed it immensely.
#33 May 07th 2007, 1:11pm

possibly under reviewed because no one can find it! searches didnt turn up with anything for either author or story. could you possibly post the actual addy, so i can copy and paste it in - it sounds wonderful!

I found another absolute gem of an author: Bagge.

I've read a couple of Bagge's pieces, namely 'A Flower in Her Hair' and 'Luna's Father'. I just finished 'Luna's Father' right now, and it really was a beautiful piece. It was so nice to see the great relationship that Luna must have with her father- the way it was described was just amazing.

I've just found a really good one:

And another one...

50 things that really matter, by The Fat Chipmunk

A collection of little stories, all of which are equally amazing.

The picture of Dorien Gray=really cool. I never studied it though.

I'd really appreciate any suggestions, I've been having a HORRIBLE case of writer's block on this one. I'd also like to mention this really good fic that I read recently:

"A Matchless Match" by Lady Lithe

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3424375/1/

It's just a really cute piece of Harry/Ginny fluff, which I have a weak spot for =)

all right id just like to point out that ibelieveintruelove's fic is star wars. sorry hon, never seen it, have no idea whats going on, so theres really not much use in me making recs for it. prieda solo might be able to help, though. i'll still read it tho! and thanks for the rec

I found an interesting, seriously-underreviewed author if anyone is looking to read anything a bit different: SnorkackCatcher.

He's written a lot, and I've only read two of his pieces, but both are excellent.

'Honour Amongst Thieves' is a nifty piece about Mundungus Fletcher. He really gets Mundungus' humor down perfectly. Definitely worth a read.

and 'Toujours Pur', which is about Mrs. Black pondering her family's standards and her two sons while watching a Quidditch match.

Here's the link to SnorkackCatcher's profile, in case no one can find it: http://www.fanfiction.net/u/684368/

So it's 2:46 AM and I can't sleep, so I decided to poke around and found this:

'How Lovely Are Thy Branches' by thirty2flavors

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3507074/1/

It's a great little oneshot that really wonderfully portrays the relationship between Sirius and Regulus. It takes place during Christmastime, but I found it completely satisfying, even as we are rapidly approaching summer.

ibelieveintruelove
I just read "How Lovely Are Thy Branches" and I thought it was excellent! Good pick SuGaRLiLy!

I also wanted to ask for reviews on this story on behalf of my friend. I think that she should expand on the story more, as it really has some potential, but she just doesn't think that it's worth it. If you guys could share your thoughts with her, I'd really appreciate it!

The story is called "Letters" by horcrux happy.

Thanks a million guys!
