Oftentimes the reason you don't like them is because the author doesn't want you to like them. I admit, I dislike many characters, but do you know what I do? I don't read (or flame) fics about them, I don't reread the parts with them, I don't put their pictures on dartboards. I just ignore them and their fans/haters. I dislike Neji for the following reasons.

1.) He's a jerk. Well, he was but in the beginning he was a jerk and I've never forgiven him for that. I mean, why would he constantly insult Hinata and Naruto in the Chuunin exams? What's the point in that? Even if he does think he's better than the two of them, he doesn't have to shove it down their throats.

2.) Superiority complex. Seriously. He's attitude of, "I'm better than you and you have no chance of winning," really ** me off. He not just confident, he's cocky, and it's not even used as comic relief. (Naruto's confidence stems though his need for attention and it's sometimes funny. The times when he's serious usually serves to motivate other characters. Neji just condescends everyone.) Though, I'm a little bias because of his interaction with Hinata. This point actually relates to the first point I made so you can mush them together and make a counter argument encompassing my two points.

Well, these are my only understandable reasons for disliking Neji. My other reasons are more personal.

Also, this is based on the Anime and the first part of the anime. I haven't bothered watching the newer episodes so my reasons might be a bit off. Maybe he got better over the course of the anime but from what I've seen he's comparable to the bullies we have in school.

In the begnning he was a jerk. The Hinata fight is straight forward, he belived her father killed his dad, so he took it out on her. The right thing to do? No. Somewhat understanable? A bit. If I had known someone that was related to the person who killed my dad, I would probably be a bit iffy toward them too. Not to the degree of Neji, but it would still be there. It's just how people react to things. He belived that the main house was the reason his father was dead, and spent most of his life hating them for that.

But, yes Neji does get better. In the Sasuke retrival arc, he was alot nicer and cared more about people. He was alot more relaxed around his team mates. Like everyone else, he gets more mature in the timeskip.

Note: The anime sucked for various reasons. I'm not crazy enough to waste my time watching it. All arguements relate to the events of the manga, which, in a perfect world, would be exactly the same in both.

Stress relief doesn't justify his actions. Sure, Hinata may've indirectly caused Neji to lose his father, but Hinata never meant it to happen. It's like taking out your anger on your brother because he was kidnapped and caused your dad to commit suicide. It doesn't make any sense at all, and it's utterly selfish of Neji. He just decided to take out his anger out on her. Really bitchy of him if you ask me. (Of course, you'd probably reply here with a sarcastic, "I never asked you." ^.^)

Also, I've dealt with some serious sh.t in my life and you don't see me taking it out on everyone. And before you say this, yes it is comparable to Neji's experience.
