Post
Dudly Nyaa, I've always wonder where did everyone come to love this shounen manga, when the majority of writers here are girls...

My own personnal story starts when I was reading Shonen Jump and there was a PoT preview... I didn't care about it much, but when I went to Paris, I bought the 3 first mangas à la FNAC because... they weren't expensive.

When they were over, I couldn't go back and buy more. In Quebec, I watched the rest of the serie via YouTube and became a POT fan.

But after, I watched all the Sailor Moon and forgot about PoT, until I ran into Tennis no Ouhjisama fandom over here. My own little downfall ^^

What about you? Jun 30th 2007, 10:27pm #1

Sweet Obsidian Rain I got addicted because I was in a bookstore and I couldn't find anything I wanted to read. (I was in a very bad mood)

Then I happened to run into the PoT manga, so I picked the first volume up and read it. Afterwards, I was glued to PoT.

I started watching the anime after I read like the 17th volume. Jul 13th 2007, 1:59pm #2

SilverCyanide Oh, I remember this well. *g*

Last April, I was hanging around the HOL (Hogwarts Online) IRC (Inter Relay Chat) channels, mainly the Gryffindor one (because I'm a Gryff. :P I should be in Hufflepuff. But HOL!Gryff is fun, because they're the house known for insanity. x333333333333333)

Yeah, well, hanging out there...they're pretty obsessive. Like "you're now officially nicknamed this character, change your name" obsesssive. Like, the prefect "deals PoT" obsessive. *g* I couldn't help getting curious as to what it was. Especially since whenever it was described "pretty boys" was always mentioned somewhere. Well, one day (while most of the channel was still waiting for their PoT to show up in the mail XP) somebody put up a link to a site where you could watch them (I found out the video's there were hosted on YouTube, where I later watched the rest). I couldn't help it, I got addicted. I think it was the theme song. They do that to me. Or maybe it was just the pretty boys and the fact that I already knew half of the characters names and how to pronounce them. XD

Well, love at first site really does happen, and I ended up watching all 178 episodes and the animated movie in about two and a half weeks.

And there is my lovely story. *nods* Aug 02nd 2007, 5:27pm #3

Eternal.Angel I actually watched it some years ago before I fully-fledged looked and watched everything. My sister had downloaded it and was watching it on her laptop, so I observed it a bit. I found it quite funny, but decided not to take a look at it.

It was then this year that my mind wandered to look for a new anime or manga to watch or read. I just then remembered "Prince of Tennis", so I began searching for videos and reading the manga. I watched all the episodes, movies, and OAVs (out so far). I am currently downloading the manga and reading it, while reading doujinshi online. I searched for mp3s of all the theme songs and such. I save graphics that are related to TeniPuri. You won't believe how obsessed I am right now, haha...now I even write fanfic for it. =D Aug 03rd 2007, 4:34am #4

The Blue Penguin I got into Tenipuri only earlier this year. My friend had a DVD of the Live action movie, so I borrowed it out of curiosity. I found it really good so I went to download the manga. I read through the manga during pre-finals and finals week of my last term and got obsessed (^_^). Then I found out about the musicals and watched them too, and then really got obsessed. Now, I can never get enough of PoT. :D Aug 03rd 2007, 6:00am #5
SilverCyanide *pops in*

The Live Action movie is so weird. They poofed Hiyo. And replaced him with some Akutsu/Akaya wanna be. *pouts* Not that I didn't buy it the moment I saw it sitting on the shelf...*g* (I got it the day before Easter and since we're not a religious family I sat around in my room for most of the morning watching it and going "WTF is up with Hyotei's ugly pants?!")

Riiiight...*wanders off*

EDIT: *g* I have a tooooon of PoT music. A toooooon of it. I loooove Shinji's songs. They're surprisingly nice. I've got pretty much every Fuji song there is (I loooove the album 'Eyes'), oh, 'Catch my Rainbow' by Ryoma is nice too...*rambles* Aug 03rd 2007, 6:09am . Edited Aug 03rd 2007, 6:10am #6

The Blue Penguin Yes, after reading the manga and watching the musicals and seeing a few anime eps, I do think that the Live action was weird. x_x They changed the entire Hyoutei cast! Would've been better if Kato was there.

PoT has really nice songs! Attribute that to the fact that they have really good seiyuus! xD Aug 03rd 2007, 6:13am #7

Eternal.Angel I agree with you all. The Live-Action Movie just didn't feel right at all, because they twisted some things. The part I only like about it was when they were celebrating at Kawamura Sushi, the father assumed Tezuka was the coach; then there was the part when Inui was taking notes on how the sushi tasted; and lastly the part where all the regulars turned and yelled, "Echizen!", but found out that it was a different man. xD

I love their songs! I have all their opening, ending, and additional songs. I'm trying to find some image songs right now, hehe. =D

I didn't watch the musicals yet, they don't seem that good. Are they really that cool? Aug 03rd 2007, 7:00am #8

The Blue Penguin Oh, you should watch it. They have pretty songs and really gorgeous actors! At first I find it funny and dorky because really, who would want to watch a bunch of guys dancing around with rackets?! But I didn't know it was *that* addicting! xD

The musicals follow the manga arc, with a few modifications. I recommend watching Absolute King Rikkai First Service; it's my favorite among all the Myus. Imperial Match Hyoutei is also good, then there's the Dream Live Series. I have a bunch of screencaps from Dream Live Fourth in my LJ (link in my profile). Go check it out if you're curious. (^-^) Aug 03rd 2007, 7:07am #9

Eternal.Angel Ok, thanks! I'll go watch them while I'm typing a new fanfic (it's RyoSakuFuji, mwhahahaha...of course, there's my other ones too -_________-).

Thank you for your suggestion! =D And dancing around with rackets...rofl...my stomach hurts...xD Aug 03rd 2007, 7:47am #10

The Blue Penguin I know the Rikkaimyu's still up in Youtube, so you can watch there. Enjoy! :D I'm just not sure about DL4 since it just came out, but you can check if it's already up there too.

Oh yes, they do choreography with rackets! The actors hold their rackets the whole time when they're onstage. Funny, yes, but it makes me squeal too! xD Aug 03rd 2007, 7:52am #11

Eternal.Angel OMG, these musicals are good! I've been watching them just now, and they are wicked cool! It looks kind of funny, but yet the guys look so...*drools* xD Aug 03rd 2007, 10:01am #12
SilverCyanide I should get around to watching the Myus. I haven't yet...I watched DL1, a bit of the original TeniMyu, drooled over Aiba and his smexy hips (*drool* How does he do it? *swoons*)

EDIT: (I keep pressing post before I mean to. -__________-) For music, I don't recommend just the openings and endings. There are sooooooooooooo many wonderful character songs...*swoon*

Okay, random story time! On my IRC client (it's a different program than the one I was linking you guys to - mine was actually downloaded) there's a sounds option. I have it set so that whenever I get kicked from a channel it plays "Against Wind" by Jiroh (or whoever his seiyuu is XP). Well, I was home alone, talking to my friend on IRC, and we had a kick war (I started it. :P I couldn't help it, I LOVE the kick button!) And so she kicked me and all of a sudden it started playing, scared me a bit. But every time I'm kicked it starts over. :P So it kept starting over and it sounded really weird.

Okay, random story over.

By the way, Inui has a puuuuuuuuuuuuurty voice. He's got like...three or four songs, but only one or too of them are good (he has weird songs...).

Oh, and I have 107 songs on my PoT play list, and could double that if my mom wouldn't care me. XP Aug 03rd 2007, 10:23am . Edited Aug 03rd 2007, 10:26am #13

The Blue Penguin Eternal.Angel: Told you they were cool. Which one are you watching now?

KiriharaAkaya: Indeed, Aiba's a great dancer. His moves are just so sexy. xD

I've been fangirling over Rikkai though, after I saw Rikkai Myu. Couldn't resist. The cast is just so perfect! xD Aug 03rd 2007, 10:34am #14

SilverCyanide Rikkai pwns.

When I get time I'll watch Rikkaimyu (I've seen the previews of the characters. Zomgs...whoever play the Platinum Pair look sooo smexy. But their Akaya scared me. -.-) Aug 03rd 2007, 10:42am #15

The Blue Penguin Indeed, Baba Tooru (Yagyuu) and Masataka Nakagauchi (Niou) are too gorgeous. They're perfect for the role. *_*

And I've just downloaded their Best Actor CD. Yagyuu has such a nice voice!

Akaya does look scary in the preview (^^); but he's adorable in the musical. Aug 03rd 2007, 10:53am #16

Sweet Obsidian Rain O_O

Damn. I missed a lot of the musicals.

I only watched up to the Hyotei Arc.

But then again, I like watching the backstage/behind the scenes better than the actual musical.

It's soooo funny. Aug 03rd 2007, 1:08pm #17

The Blue Penguin Backstages are like a whole dose of fanservice for fans. xD And it's really funny to watch all those boys. They're so dorky. But adorable nevertheless. xD Aug 03rd 2007, 11:08pm #18
gold.paperclips @ Kirihara Akaya: Go crunchyroll for fast viewing of the Hyotei arc! xD

I love the musicals! but what got me interested in PoT was my sis, who bought PoT manga for me to read. Since then, I became a PoT fan! Aug 03rd 2007, 11:52pm #19

Sweet Obsidian Rain Joy-san:

Yup. Yup.

I just re-watched Dream Live 3rd Backstage and finished watching Dream Live 4th Backstage on Youtube.

I couldn't find the real Dream Live there though.

Eliz-san:

xD Crunchyroll is pwnsome. Aug 04th 2007, 3:13pm #20

gold.paperclips @Rain:

It's up there! I remembered watching them, let me find them for you! -searches youtube- Links:

whoots! Aug 04th 2007, 5:04pm #21

Sweet Obsidian Rain Yay! xD

I have to watch them later though. Aug 04th 2007, 5:23pm #22

gold.paperclips Watch them soon, they get deleted quite fast. I don't know why o.O Aug 04th 2007, 5:24pm #23
Sweet Obsidian Rain I will. Lol. Aug 04th 2007, 5:34pm #24
The Blue Penguin I used to watch them on Youtube, but now I download them. It takes a while, but it's worth it.

DL4 is so muh love (and fanservice). You should go see it soon before they get deleted. xD Aug 04th 2007, 9:58pm #25

Dudly Hum.. what are those? Dream Live and Musicals and stuff? =S A bit lost here... Aug 04th 2007, 10:08pm #26
The Blue Penguin It's a musical version of PoT. Follows the manga storyline, with a few modifications. They have actors that play PoT characters, singing and dancing with rackets and playing pretend tennis onstage. A bit dorky and funny when you see them the first time, but really addicting. xD Aug 04th 2007, 10:10pm #27
Sweet Obsidian Rain I was going to watch them, but all of a sudden, my dad came into the room.

He's sleeping right now. X_X

The computer I'm using at the moment is in my parents' room.

Hope they don't see anything that I don't want them too.

O_O xD Aug 05th 2007, 1:52pm #28

Big Sister Kitty Well, I've only heard of PoT but--heaven forbid!--I wasn't exactly interested in it. I started to give this lovely anime a chance when my little sister told me that Ryoma owned a cat!XD What can I say? Cat's are delightful and Karupin's just adorable!

Saa, after watching a few episodes and reading a few chapters of the manga, I've acquired a taste for weirdo tennis players and the rest is history!:3 Sep 30th 2007, 2:14am #29

Kyoka-BOO Karupin is absolutely adorable!

I think that I had a friend running around last year going all crazy over it, and after charades when I easily guessed her "Prince of Tennis" thing, I decided I mind as well watch it myself.

I think the thing that really kept me hooked was the animated movie.

Random: Kitty-san, do you know our birthdates are only four days apart? Sep 30th 2007, 5:54am #30

Big Sister Kitty *hugs Karupin* Make no mistake, cats bring great joy!X3

Actually, I'm pretty glad you're older than I am. I have a beta who's about five days younger than I am and I feel weird... Sep 30th 2007, 6:20am #31

Kyoka-BOO I'm glad to see there's somebody who agrees. (There's so many people in my classes who hate cats, and I can barely see why) Sep 30th 2007, 7:16am #32
awintea Oh, I love cats too n___n And Karupin xP ... I can't think of anyone I know off the top of my head that hates cats though. 0_o Sep 30th 2007, 8:21am #33
Sweet Obsidian Rain xD I like dogs better than cats, but cats I'm fine with both. xD Karupin is just so fluffy! xD I wish I had a cat like that. xD Except if I stay with a cat or dog too long my allergy reactions will act up. So I'm semi-allergic to cats and dogs. xD Sep 30th 2007, 9:01am . Edited Sep 30th 2007, 9:01am #34
Kyoka-BOO I just love all animals. If I had my run, I'd own a dog, a cat, and probably a snake.

I like snakes, but I'm not allowed them. Probably for good reason. I'd get one of those pet pythons that could potentially be deadly if it decides to constrict around your neck. I have a friend who has a pet boa, though. It's awesome!

It's hard working at an animal shelter and not bringing something home every once in a while. Perhaps it's a good thing. My kitties would be sad if I brought any other animal back. Sep 30th 2007, 10:18am #35

Eternal.Angel Ah, Kyoka-san, good luck to you! I'm sure you'll be a wonderful vet when you grow up. =D

We had a goldfish once, but I overfed it at the age of two, and it died. So we never got an animal again. XD

I'm fond of cats though - our entire neighborhood is filled with them!

Snakes? Those sound cool and at the same time freaky... XD

My mom got bit by a dog, which is why we don't have one. I tried persuading her getting a cow though. XD Sep 30th 2007, 10:30am #36

Kyoka-BOO Ah, that's sad... Poor goldfish. (They die really easy though, I've heard. When I was younger I did used to have goldfish, and they didn't have very long lives.)

Snakes are awesome. As long as they aren't poisonous. Then I'll keep my distance, because I don't think I'd be a good snake wrangler.

Well, that's an understandable reason not to want a dog. A cow, though? That would be interesting. Sep 30th 2007, 10:35am #37

Eternal.Angel Yea. My cousin got one - it died. Got two - it died. Got three - it died. Got one - it died. Got two - it died. And he never touched another goldfish again... XD

A cow...then we don't have to buy milk! XD Sep 30th 2007, 10:42am #38

Kyoka-BOO Yes, but isn't it rather hard to do so? You'd have to milk by hand, and the cow would have to be milked every day. xDD Sep 30th 2007, 10:46am #39
Sweet Obsidian Rain AND you would have to raise it by a big field with lots of grass... And clean up the waste. xD Sep 30th 2007, 10:50am #40
Kyoka-BOO Manure~

I used to clean out horse stalls. And then one day when I was grooming a horse and mucking out the stall, the horse stepped right on my foot, turned its head, and knocked me straight into a pile of manure. And since I was at the stables, the only thing I could do was hose myself off. Sep 30th 2007, 10:59am #41

Petenshi-Mikage I heard it from a really loooong time ago. Then they started to air it here in my country (dubbed in our local language) and I somehow figured out that Ryoma was the prince of tennis and I was really like "D:< why the hell is this character here instead of Ryoma?! D:<" and that character was Fuji. Ater a month or so I saw some people selling the DVDs of PoT and I asked my mom to buy it for me XD

ENTER, ADDICTION. Nov 19th 2007, 2:49am #42

Big Sister Kitty I love animals--most of them--since I can only tolerate dogs. Hah, I dream of having a python wrapped around my neck and arms while I lounge around and read manga...

*ahem* Anyway, Mikage-san, I think I know what you mean. (You're from the Phils, right?) I was watching such a channel on TV and was surprised to see Fuji on the title screen instead of Ryoma. (What's up with that?!) Jan 03rd 2008, 3:42am #43

Sweet Obsidian Rain XD Did you guys read the LJ post someone found about their theory that Fuji is the real Prince of Tennis? Jan 03rd 2008, 12:25pm #44
Big Sister Kitty No, I haven't...although those TV station people might have... o.O Jan 03rd 2008, 7:40pm #45
Sweet Obsidian Rain http://piccu.livejournal.com/8196.html

Read it. XD Jan 04th 2008, 12:47pm #46

Kyoka-BOO Will totally worship Piccu if this is actually right.

If Echizen isn't the Prince of Tennis, I'll rejoice.

Something tells me that even if Konomi planned for Fuji to be the prince of tennis, he might change because the series is totally worships his "skills".

I put that in quotations because his abilities are the most outrageous and annoyingly unrealistic of them all, although Tezuka Zone comes in pretty close. But we can all forgive Tezuka for glowing yellow because we all think that it's hilarious. Jan 04th 2008, 4:39pm #47

Sweet Obsidian Rain Oh! And because Tezuka killed the dinosaurs so that we can exist without being eaten by them. XD

But Fuji's skillz are looooooove. XD Jan 04th 2008, 4:58pm #48

reckless-rage My story! My story!

A friend recommended it to me! (That's it??!) Yes, actually...she was fangirling over ALL of the characters and I thought, what the hell, I swiped the discs from her and the next day I was fangirling along with her...haha. ^^ Jan 06th 2008, 1:24am #49

Sweet Obsidian Rain XD I'm trying to get my tutor to fangirl over this series.

She says she really hates Horio and Tomoka. xD I was like, "That's expected..." XD Jan 06th 2008, 6:21pm #50
