captainkodak1Topic: Farewell Commander Argus, a loss to the KP community
I have just learned that our friend and co-writer Commander Argus was killed last December in his hometown of Charlotte, NC. He was hit and killed while riding his bicycle. He had not posted in quite some time but his stories were great. I had not heard from him in sometime. The last time was back in June when I visited his hometown of Charlotte. We could not arrange a time to meet and hoped to get a chance again. We will miss him greatly. The Captain snaps to attention and gives a salute as Taps plays. So long to a good freind and fellow North Carolinian. | #1 Apr 15th, 5:37pm . Edited Apr 15th, 5:44pm

Sentinel103One of the first stories I read on FF was one of his. I loved the way he blended things and kept on track. His descriptions were incredible. We'll see ya on the other side CA. We'll miss ya till then. | #3 Apr 15th, 6:10pm . Edited Apr 15th, 6:12pm

whitemI... can't believe it. I feel so sad now. Everything he wrote, from The Trinity Sitch, to KP The Light at the End... Everything he wrote is incredible! I truly hope the Commander found HIS light at the end. We'll miss you Commander Argus. |
MaceEcamOh man...I've never read anything of his before, so I don't know him as a writer, but the loss of any human life is a shame. Here's to the Commander. |
KwebsHe was a great writer and a great artist, I loved his stories. He will be missed. |
Captain ITZaratan: If you could read this. We need a sixth candle for the Fannies. Here is to a wonderful writer...R.I P. |
Thomas LinquistI did not know Commander Argus. What I do know, is that many here have great respect for him. I suspect that the loss is mine. And yet, he is not lost to us, because he chose to share who he was with all of us who are members of the Kimmunity. He has left a legacy of friends. When my own time comes, I hope that I have left something good behind. *Thomas bows his head in respect.* From the stars we came, to the stars we return. We commend a soul to the ages. |

CajunBear73In thinking back to when I first discovered this site, Commander Argus was near the top of those writers who captured my attention, my imagination and kept me coming back time and time again to read his wonderful take on the Kim Possible FanFiction Universe. His contributions to this little corner of the literary world were enjoyed by so many and anticipated by all who returned for more of his tales of the KP gang, flavored with spices contributed from the depth and breadth of his life. He will be missed in so many ways, and from myself, I send my salute and condolences also. CajunBear73 |

Ran HakubiCommander Argus' stories were some of the first that I read, and some of the first that got me thinking that I could do a bit of this writing thing myself. Good bye, Commander. You brought us smiles, you brought us tears, and you reminded us what it is like to be human. I know how much he loved Science Fiction, so I would like to use a quote from Star Trek to honor him: Of all the souls I've met, his was the most human. - Captain Kirk |
KittyPuppyI'm very sad that I never had the chance to meet him, I'm sad for the loss of what could have been and for the man you all knew. I'm sad for the loss of a fellow writer and artist, especially one as obviously well-loved and respected as him. I think it would be right for someone who knew him to update and edit this: http://www.fanhistory.com/wiki/Commander_Argus I found that when I googled him after hearing the news. |
JeriddianThe Captain was kind enough to inform the GJA about the loss of the Commander. The members there wish to extend heartfelt condolensces to his family as well to his fans. He was indeed a pillar of the KP fanfic community and will be sorely missed. Many of us at the GJA do remember him from our first forays in the fanfic world, and he was a pioneer. God bless him...... |
RonHeartbreakerI haven't read most of his work, but when I first joined FFnet he was everywhere on the forum and, after he won "Best Writer" at the Fannies, I plunged into "It Finally Happened" and was blown away. He was truly an excellent writer with a great feel for the characters. It's shocking to contemplate KPFanFic without him. Rest in Peace, Commander. |
Reader101wI've read all his work on FF.net. To me, he was one of the greatest writers. My condolences to everybody who knew him |
Sir SebastianWe have indeed suffered a great loss. For many, the name "Commander Argus" was (and is) synonymous with Kim Possible Fanfiction. Rest in Peace, aboard the Great Starship In The Sky. -SS PS. And to think, we just recently had a discussion about putting up an information system for just these situations.. |
KP's LawyerOh, no... His work on this site was and sometime still is the reason to grab my English-Dictionary and try to improve my poor school-English from long ago. And probably the first KP-FanFiction I've read too. I'm feeling realy beaten right now. See ya beyond the horizon, Commander Argus. |
daccu65A belated farewell from myself, as well. Commander Argus had already written his works by the time I found my way to this site, but I found myself completely blown away by his outstanding series. They way he blended even the smallest details into a wonderful story astounds me. Here's hoping he's wowing them wherever he's at now. |
MrDrPThis is very sad news. People here knew Nelson Binch, aka "Commander Argus", as a talented writer of Kim Possible fan fiction. But he had other interests including a deep love of bicycling. He even ran a bike shop at one time. It's truly ironic that he was killed while cycling. If you'd like to read more, please visit this link (you'll need to remove the spaces I inserted to accomodate ff net): http://charlottevelo. wordpress. com/ 2008/ 12/ 02/ james-nelson-binch/ |

cpnebI was so stunned last night when Kwebs told me that I forgot that I knew the Commander's real name. At this time, I'm working on something for Road Trip to include this sad news. Real life...it can be a downer, but I think that the Commander would want us to hold our heads high and keep moving forward. I'll post again later when I'm more lucid.... ...cpneb |
screaming phoenixI’m stunned. He was a great writer whose work I enjoyed immensely. His take on the Kim and Ron relationship was one of the best and most detailed on the site. I’m gonna miss him as well. Somewhere the X.S.S. Trinity has just crossed the hyper-warp limit for the last time. Ultimate Naco ToppingThis is truely a shock to the system. He was one of the most prolific, consistent, and positive writers on this site. It Finally Happened was one of my all-time favorites and was one of the stories that helped me through a very rough patch. For that I am grateful. Our thoughts and prayers, though a bit late, go out to his family. Rest in Peace, Commander. |
kaiokkenWow really sorry to hear this... may he RIP |
CajunBear73Just came back from your tribute at your DA account Cap, and I must say you did a very good job of capturing, in such brevity, so much of what were his contributions to this site. Good job indeed. Add my thoughts and prayers to those already contributed to him and his family. He will be greatly missed by all who have 'met' him. CB73 |

SlyrrI'd like to add my voice to the sympathetic posts here in reporting this sad news. When you contact others with internet posts and stories, then sometimes you don't notice as fast as you should that something is missing. Many of us here can't pretend that we have all that much in common besides a love of the KP tv series and the franchise in general, but somehow we all came together in an activity that's nearly as old as humanity itself: storytelling. My sincerest condolances to his family and loved ones. In my clumsy way of offering comfort, I can only do what I do best and lift a line from another great writer: 'We are not bound forever to the circles of this world, and beyond them - there is more than memory.' I also second the motion to add a tribute to the Commander for the Fannies when those are posted.... |
mkusenagi2Ah, knowing the Commander and Kath they're raisin' all kinds of divine mayhem. The guy was a Grandmaster of the craft. Period. He's set an excellent example, let's blaze some new trails folks! MK2 |

Joe StoppinghemWhat can I add to a fitting tribute to a great person. I never had the pleasure of meeting the Commander either, but felt I knew him from his writings. I've mentioned in many reviews I sent to him, that if there was ever to be a KP / RS novel of their life after high school graduation, his series would be it. It was the most life like, with the worries, discoveries, happiness, sadness and joy of growing together with someone special in their life. In any story, the writer was successful when the reader wants to be a part of the characters lives and events. He did this more times than not. I was just wondering last week if he was going to be getting back to "Light at the End", at least for them to be married. Makes me sad, thinking there will be no more new works from him. Thanks Nelson Binch, AKA Commander Argus, for the time and effort you put into your stories, they will be cherished by this reader for years to come. |
Classic CowboyOh man ... I can't believe it ... Nelson was a great guy and one of the best writers I have ever had the oppertunity to read from. I still remember when I first met him and started speaking with him over MSN, and while he wasn't on often I thuroughly enjoyed our conversations. Our fandom lost a great writer, and we've all lost a wonderful friend. Rest in peace, Nelson, God bless. |
theotherdaveBeautiful Tribute. Nelson looks so much like one of the officers I had the privilege of serving with during a Med / Indian Ocean Cruise, back in the day. RIP Commander Argus |
CajunBear73I've checked further into the site that MrDrP posted the link for above, and found that a person can post comments to the article if they wish. Myself, screaming phoenix, The Wise Duck, and Sentinel103 have been there and posted a few words in tribute to the Commander. It may be comforting for those in Nelson's immediate world to see how many of us there are around the world who have been touched by his writings and artwork while he was a part of the Kimmunity. yvjI've had some fleeting PM's with Argus over at RS.net. He was a great writer and a stand up guy overall, he will be missed. |

Mike IndustriesA small tribute video. I made this, in honor of an all around nice guy. It's a shame to see him go, but he did leave us with much when it came to KP. I'm not much for seriousness, so I'm bad at stuff like this, but I know for a fact I will miss him, I wanted to read more... and as selfish as that may be, he was just that good. | #32 Apr 18th, 9:08pm . Pharaoh Rutin Tutin"It Finally Happened" and the other stories in that series were the hooks that pulled me into KP Fanfics. I only hope that everyone that knew him outside this forum will remember him at least as fondly as those of us that knew him largely (or only) through his fiction. |
CajunBear73Just checked out the video Mike I, and I must say you all did a terrific job in this tribute. My thanks to you, Cap and Muttly. CB73 |

Mike, somewhere Commander Argus is grinning like an idiot and giving you a big thumb's up. If this is what you produce when you're bad, I shudder with anticipation at what you do when you're good. Thank you, Mike, for voicing what many of us could not say. ...cpneb |

Sentinel103WOW guys thanks, Mike and you MM and CK1 done good. I think that was really well done. I wished I could draw. It's like I play the pipes. Not pretty. A great tribute to a good man and a great author and artist. Larry (Sentinel103) | #36 Apr 19th, 10:09am . Edited Apr 19th, 10:13am

Mike IndustriesThank you, Mike, for voicing what many of us could not say. Well neb, my shutup filter has been defective for many years. And please, everyone, no need to thank me for the video. It was just a small thing I could do, as minor as it may be. |
SlyrrSometimes folks need to say thanks for a nice tribute as much as the people who made the tribute feel they needed to make it in the first place - if that makes sense... Excellent work! |
Classic CowboyThat was a wonderful tribute, pal, I added it to my favs. actually teared up a bit. I know the Commander's saluting you on a job well done on the video. |
screaming phoenixA magnificent tribute Mike. I added it to my faves as well. Well Done! |
mkusenagi2Thanks for creatin' this... You and Muttly did a bang up job. MK2 |

RedBlueGreenI'm not really active enough to join in, but Thomas Linquist puts it best for me: I did not know Commander Argus. What I do know, is that many here have great respect for him. I suspect that the loss is mine. |

Star-Eva01I too want to say thanks to Mike Industries and Captain Kodak 1 for the time and effort they have put into saying farewell to Commander Argus. And to MrDrP for sharing the news attricle on his death. I, like a lot of others here, count Commander A's work as one of the first here that was read by them. In fact, I pretty sure the first three writers here that I read where: Commander A, Capt K, and MrDrP. (In no set order) His Trinity Sitch stories are some of my favorites. His was also the first stories that I remember that took Kim and Ron outside of Middleton High, and had them out in the "Real World". One thing that I remember about one of the stories in the Trinity set, is Kim learning that she really can't handle booze that well, and Ron "transporting" from Japan to help her where Averaos's ( And yes, I know it's misspelled ) son was trying to have his way with her. The Commander was one of the "Big Three" I always wanted a review from. The others were Captain K, and MrDrP when I first started telling my little tales. When I got my first from Captain K, I almost hit the floor... I mean, here's one of the "big ones" reading my little stories, and liking it... I still have a shot at one from MrDrP. But I really wanted that one from the Commander. I really wanted him to read my small tales and tell me that I did ok... Not great, just ok... That I had potental.. That I could inprove. I never got that Review, but I did get the chance to talk to him once by E-Mail. I just wish I could remember what we talked about.... I've "talked" to some here, in chat and via E-Mail, and they said that the Commander was a truly nice guy. That would help anyone when asked. Commander, I'm just a poor Southern Gentelman, and a Hillbilly rolled into one. I wish that I could have had the chance to talk you "for real" here on this side of the vail... Maybe sometime, somewere, I will get that chance to set down and talk about your stories and I can tell you just how much I really enjoyed them, about living in the South, and maybe get that review from you that I always wanted. And maybe, just maybe, you will tell me that you really liked one of mine... Your stories have had an effect here Commander... They have touched a whole lot of us here... From the powerhouses that followed you, to the some of the newest here... You were and still are a major player here... you ideas, and your style have effected many stories... you eye for detail and charater building is carried on in writers that I read here, and in my own stories... God Bless Commander. And rest now Sir... Your job is done... We, your fans and fellow writers here, will do our best to carry on in your place. But know this.... No one can replace you. Star-Eva01 |

BubbahotekI haven't been to the forum for a while and was shocked and saddened to hear of the Commander's passing. He will truely be missed by one and all. Bubba |
AtomicFireWhen it comes down to it the Commander is one of the reasons I started writing here, when you read works as good as he wrote well you have to give something back. |

Yankee BardWe have lost one of the greats and shall be poorer for the loss. |

The Enduring Man-ChildI am ashamed to say that I just learned of CA's passing the other day from CaptainKodak1's latest chapter (sorry I've been so out of touch lately). First of all, Barukh Dayyan Ha'Emet, blessed be the True Judge Whose judgment we must all accept. Secondly, CA was one of the very first KP authors I ever read. I was reading his "Trinity Sitch" religiously up until Season 04 came along and derailed it, and it's still a wonderful, wonderful read. He was an absolutely incredible writer, and obviously a wonderful human being as well. I am so sorry to learn of his loss and I offer my condolences to his family, friends, and the entire KP fan community. In 1965 the great Southern writer Randall Jarrell (author of The Bat Poet among other things) was also struck and killed while walking along a lonely road. Perhaps they are comparing stories now. May his soul be bound in the bonds of eternity. |
DarevI read "Kimberly's Run" last year. I found it to be an exhilerating romp through the mind of a gifted writer and human being. I am shamed to admit that I did not know CA that well as our only communication was between review replies, but I still send out my sincerest condolences to his family and all those who knew him. He's writing with angels now. |
BenRGJust like many others, Commander Argus was my introduction to 'serious' KP fanfiction. His work inspired me on many levels and I can honestly say that his vision of Kim's future greatly influences mine. In all humility, my KP stories would not exist without him and his example. Commander Argus' writing is a masterclass in how fanfiction should be done. I have always found his stuff compulsive reading (often frustrating when, like me, you don't have several hours to sit down and read an epic-length work). His characterisations were human, believable and completely as I imagined the characters growing up. I had few direct interactions with him, although remember laughing with him via review and review reply at the thought of a Bonnie/Mego date. He was always, first and foremost, a believer in the character of Kim Possible and everything that could be done with the story. I cannot overstate my shock at the news of his death. There is now a void in the KP fandom that, I fear, will never be truely healed. |
Eddy13I remember seeing the Commander's stories. They were the first ones I ever read. It's really sad that he's gone. At least we have his stories to remember him by. Farewell, Argus. The Kimmunity will miss you. |
