Topic: Where is everybody?

This has come out from several posts, but I've never seen this asked:

Where do you live?

the 'nebmeister? in the US/Texas/Dallas/Ft.Worth metroplex, just north of the D/FW International Airport in Lewisville.

y tu?

Hmm... I noticed something... when it comes to nationals from outside the US, this forum provides them in pairs.

Canada - Zaratan/AtomicFire

UK - Spleen/Pinkymint

Finland - Zokolov/Sir Sebastian

Any others that I'm missing from this list?

Although I think she's originally Jamaican, not native born, and just moved there a year or two ago. (Correct me if I'm wrong, Pinky!)

Wow, you know a lot of Finnish towns...and you even spelled them correctly! I am impressed. OK, I'll reveal. It's Joensuu. It's pretty close to Kuopio...It's very close to the Russian border.

That tells me, Zokolov, that your relatives had a "bit of a time" during the Second World War. What the Finns went through was frightening to a WW II history buff, let alone the folks who lived through it; being in the US tends to make some people ignore what else happened during that confict.

Full disclosure: Native Texan, grew up in San Angelo (southwest of Midland, in West Texas where the water is in that part of the state), moved to Austin (state capital) after college, back to San Angelo where I found my beloved and the kids, and moved to the metroplex.

Ah, true. After all, there weren't any fighting on the American soil...

And yes, a lot of my relatives were forced to leave from the parts that used to be Finland...

Well, there was that litle fracas over in Hawaii that helped the country get off its tookis (hiney, rear end, a$$), and there were a few, sporadic incidents on the west coast, but not much.

The irony: the work that my dad did in the Pacific during the was, he was not allowed to do when he returned to the states: there was that minor problem of African-Americans could fight and die, they just couldn't do some jobs....

The open discrimination and prejudice is mostly gone; it's the hidden that's driving many people to distraction. (don't be surprised if I just opened up a large can of worms....)

Well, my mind is very rarely in the vicinity of my body. . .

But my body is usually in Hillsdale, Michigan. Near Ohio and Indiana.

( If you can't see it on your map, it's probably under the fly you swatted )

As for the question of prejudice and discrimination? Almost everyone who has ever hurt, assulted, insulted, cheated, betrayed, or otherwise annoyed me had skin colour similar to my own and spoke an American version of English. So should I be disciminating against people who look like me?

I was repeatedly called stupid and lazy, at age 6, in school, by a teacher. At the time, my dyslexia was undiagnosed.

I lost all my hair at around the same time.

Do NOT talk to me about prejudice and discrimination.

One of the intriguing things I've learned at the forum is that there are very few individuals here on this forum who have not been through some form of pain. The type is different from person to person, but the pain is still there (or at least the remnants remain). That has allowed them to understand and be the type of writers that we all enjoy reading.

It's an interesting pattern, but somewhat scary to realize....

Myrtle Beach, SC: the damp, hot, smelly armpit of the east. Nice place to visit, but don't move here...

As for pain/suffering, it is a rare individual indeed that hasn't caught the steel-toed boot of life in the naughty bits at least once in their life. There do seem to be a fair number here who've had some truly nasty experiences.

My own experiences? Girlfriend in college told me she was desperate for financial help. The "I don't have money to pay rent, phone bill, or buy food" kind of help. Turns out she was saving HER money to go to Europe to see another guy... That bit of life experience cost me around five hundred smackers.

One of many annoying experiences, and I'm sure everyone on here can bring up nastiness they've suffered.

Charlotte, North Carolina - currently drowning in traffic because the city is do dead-set on building a useless light rail line in the south of town instead of improving the roads all over.

Yeah, Visigoth, I used to go to Myrtle Beach almost every year (including the winter sometimes) but the last time I was there I looked out my hotel window and realized the MB I grew up with no longer existed. You can't even see the beach for all the high-rise hotels and the only high point of that trip was a final round of the Pavillion (lost count of how many times we rode the Hurricane.) With it gone, I have utterly no connection to the place any more and have resolved to go to Tybee Island near Savannah.

I can only sympathize with living there during the various bike week festivals. I won't go near the place then, even though I'm only 4 hours away. It's bad enough hearing the roaring of the bikes on regular weekends.

Evergreen, Colorado. Hooray for small mountain towns where you can't make the roads larger because there's big huge mountains on either side.

Though come this Fall I'll be splitting my time between Evergreen and law school in the People's Republic of Boulder.

Native Nebraskan here... And yes, I'm a Cornhusker.

Moved to Arizona in '88, so now I guess I'm considered a Native here too. The town is called Chandler, which is considered part of Phoenix. All of the citys around Phoenix are up against each other. You wouldn't know that you went into a new city if they didn't have the sign "Welcome to (put city name here)". We pretty much call the entire area "The Valley"...

That was probably too much info, but oh well...

Born and raised here in New Jersey. :)

For 37 years of my life, I lived in the central area around the Interstate 78/Interstate 287 junction. Great area to live with easy access to nearby highways and great mass transit to New York City.

Now I'm living in Franklin, New Jersey, which is in the northwest corner of the state (aka Sussex County). Folks moved to PA, so I have to move to a place nearby work, so I found a nice place in Franklin and have been living here since last December.

Wow, thought I was the only Arizonan here. I was born in Phoenix, lived there for a few years, then moved to Glendale, then Peoria to live with a friend of my Mom's after my parents got their divorce. I actually lived in Chandler for a few years before moving out here to Mesa. Lived in West Mesa at first, which is the bad part of town because the Hispanics seem intent on enforcing the stereotype that wherever they go, a high crime rate follows. I currently reside in East Mesa, with all the rich Mormons (I wish I were rich; not so sure on the Mormon thing). I go to college at MCC out by Red Mountain.

Just arrived (at 5:AM this morning) back home from ten days in rainy Oregon. Was born in Los Angeles and other than my military time, have spent all my time somewhere in the region. Home currently is in Lancaster in the Antelope Valley portion of the Mohave Desert (the ‘high’ desert-2500ft, in So Cal vs. the ‘low’ desert around Palm Springs-450ft) sixty miles north of downtown LA. Of course I work across the street from city hall in downtown LA—commute 72 miles one way.

Well, there are definitely some concentrations of members. I hope no one minds, but I did up a google map to highlight where everyone is. Some, where I knew a general location, just got plopped on the map somewhere near there, but for the most, it's right on the town of residence. Hell, zoom in on mine all the way, and I've got my house pinpointed! lol
