kumoI have to plug two fics written by Sakka-chan - I was so anti-alternate pairings before I read these: These Changing Times (which is listed in Fanfic.net) - Sano /Misao Seasons - Aoshi / Kaoru - find it here: http ://ww w.nabiki.com/ nichan/a rchive/ Authors/Sakka-chan/ Highly highly recommended - they don't seem to be that well known, which is a pity... ENJOY! : ) I'm going to re-read them now... | #53 Feb 12th 2006, 11:40pm

the sacred nightBeing the slash fan that I am, most of the alternate pairings I like are homosexual. I like Kenshin/Aoshi, because the two of them have a lot in common when you get right down to it. There are a lot of people in the series who have gone through loss (practically everybody lost their parents, among other things), but they still turn out to be very diverse people and have very different reactions to said loss. Aoshi and Kenshin have both become rather contemplative, wise people as a result of their lives, and they both threaten to be swalloed by darkness at times. I really think they can relate to each other well and understand each other. Aoshi's a man of few words, and I think Kenshin is unless he's trying to convince someone of something really, really important, so neither of them would get on the other's nerves, and they could have these silences in which they understand each other without having to say it. lol makes me think of the song "More Than Words," but it would just be cheesy to write a songfic to it.I also ADORE Keshin/Katsura. I know I'm going to be screamed at for this, but so be it... I frickin' love it! I can't help it, it is just so... THE BEST! I have to say in my book of All Pairings Ever, this one ranks second only to Kenshin/Tomoe. I love to see them interact nonromantically, and think they as comrades or whatever you might call them (friends isn't the word for it, definitely) are one of the most interesting relationships in RK, but I also think there's some potential for more. I frequently remind people that homosexuality between men was common at that time, however what I usually don't mention but is very relevant here is that this is especially true of men who were part of a clan that fought together. In any case, though they are both very important to the revolution, they care about each other more than just as chess pieces to be guarded for the sake of winning. It might just be platonic, but I dunno, something just says "deeper than that" to me about Kenshin's unfailing loyalty to Katsura and Katsura's concern for Kenshin's welfare. Kenshin was not so tenaciously loyal to other Ishin Shishi leaders who were equally important in terms of the success of the revolution, and Katsura was not as concerned for the other hitokiri around. I think Kenshin would have to be the one to make the first move, since Katsura would know that if he made the first move, Kenshin would feel obligated to comply because of his status and because Kenshin is kind of a pushover when it doesn't involve battle or innocent lives on the line. Anywho... my long winded thoughts on my 2 favorite alternate pairings. | #54 Apr 03rd 2006, 6:02am

Sapphire-MirrorI agree with Starian Princess (^_^) I'm a Kaoru fan too so I like almost any pairing as long as the girl love is Kaoru (err...maybe except yuri or slash).Fave alternate pairings: 1.) Aoshi/Kaoru (nothing beats this alternate pairing) 2.) Enishi/Kaoru (there is great charm in this love angle, don't you think?) 3.) Sano/Kaoru (yeah I know the relationship is more brotherly-sisterly like, but the slightly incestous nature kinda gives it spice) 4.) Saito/Kaoru (there's just this allure of a sly, arrogant man falling in love with a pure, younger woman) 5.) Hiko/Megumi (never really thought about this one until I read "Best of Intentions" by BelleDayNight) Can't think of anything more at the moment...(^_^) | #55 Apr 11th 2006, 7:42pm

hajimenokizuI agree with Saitou x Kaoru. I've never written one but the ones I read blew me away.*note to self; write something about this pair* I own a doujinshi of Saitou x Kaoru and a couple of Saitou x Misao, in the doujinshi world it seems Kaoru is the one who gets paired a lot. I think for the most part the fandom is averse to pairing Saitou off with someone because he's married (my proof? After several hundreds of RK Saitou doujinshi I only own 3, 2 of which is loosely alt-pair and there's only a few here in ff.net), most is Tokio, which is not bad in itself if the RK world had a solid characterization of Tokio and not a fanon one. My favorite I would think right now is Saitou x Misao, although I do get a lot of flack from friends for pairing Saitou off with someone else other than Tokio. Which makes me write even more Saitou x *insert wonderful RK girl here* or at least hold steadfast to my alt-pair tendencies. I've been playing with a new pairing a little... Saitou x Yumi. ^__^* They've interacted very well so far. The idea came from Shishio statement that Saitou is most like him... And I couldn't get that weird look of Saitou when Shishio kissed Yumi... LOL! | #56 Apr 22nd 2006, 11:45am

the sacred nightI can't say Saito/Kaoru or Saito/Misao does it for me... too big of an age difference turns me off big time... not that you shouldn't write what you want ^_^ but Saito/Yumi... sounds FASCINATING! I can't believe I never thought of it! Guess my slash obsessed mind needs to devote a tiny portion to hetero pairings too lol!I came across a super interesting and original pairing recently... once again, for those who like slash. It's Aoshi/Captain Sagara. It might sound a little random, but an added bonus is getting to see a little of Captain Sagara's life and personality... after all, we do't exactly get his autobiography in the manga/anime... and the stories (2!) with this pairing are "For War is Kind" and "Witness Tree" both by Falstaff, "For War is Kind" goes first and "Witness Tree" is the sequel. Just a question, by the way, that I keep asking myself... WTF is doujinshi? I hear authors talk about it all the time and I have no clue... please someone tell me! | #57 Apr 23rd 2006, 4:50pm

hajimenokizuThat's okay sacred night. I was just exposed to age differeces that I guess it doesn't really matter to me as long as it not like some 12 year old or something *shivers*. Yup! Saitou x Yumi is turning out pretty well in my drafts. LOL. Amazingly enough it's Shishio that's keeping them together. *scratch head*By slash you mean yaoi right? Aoshi and Sagara Taichou... Yeah I haven't come across that and I've seen a lot of yaoi and shounen-ai doujinshi. But then again I only collect Saitou :) Saitou x Aoshi is quite popular especially because the art is very professional looking and I've seen 1 Saitou x Sagara. :) Doujinshi is fanmade comic. They are published by a group of amateur mangaka's (and sometimes professional's under a psuedo name) called cirlces. There's a wide variety of doujinshi like gag, romance, straight, shounen-ai and yaoi. A lot of doujinshi is erotic in nature or involve events that you'd never see your favorite character doing... Like for example, Saitou as Pikachu :) Or just a really really sweet looking kid who's -still- Saitou. Things like that. If you'd like to see, i have a doujinshi gallery. Just google saitou doujinshi, it should come up first. There's a lot of Aoshi, Hiko, Sano in there too. :) | #58 Apr 23rd 2006, 8:49pm

the sacred nightNo, I didn't just mean yaoi... slash could be either yaoi or yuri, so I usually use that term since I like both. There are some interesting yuri pairings that could be thought of in RK, too, but people just don't write them much. I guess that's because most of the important characters are men, and most of the women have firmly latched onto one man or another, but you *could* still do it... I started a Misao/Kaoru fic once, but I gave up on it because it got a little boring... I also might see Megumi/Kaoru at certain moments, but I dunno about a lasting affair.| #59 Apr 24th 2006, 8:58am

LiemI've been reading all the posts on this topic for a while, so now I've decided to just say something myself. I like Enishi/Misao. I'm not sure how I ever thought of that at all, but maybe it's because Misao is my favorite female character in Rurouni Kenshin, and Enishi is my favorite male character. Also, I don't like Kaoru/Enishi. (Sorry, EK fans). I guess Misao would be good for Enishi, because he needs someone to drag him out of his apathy after his Jinchuu failed, and Misao--being all upbeat and cheerful--would be a good person to do that. She can show him that Tomoe wants him to be happy, and to live his life. That's what I think.(And besides, they would look cute together. xD) | #60 Aug 16th 2006, 10:11am

RedHairRurouniFanI definitey say, Sojirou/Misao. They are a cute couple. They both cover up their true feelings with smiles, no matter how sad they are within. I mean, in one book from Jinchuu, Misao and Aoshi have come and find out Kaoru is dead. One night, when everyone is asleep, Misao is crying on the well lid, saying, "You said you'd wait for me, you said we'd have fun, Kaoru-san." She's cryin late at night so no one sees her, Soujirou feels the same, he just keeps it all in his heart.| #62 Dec 13th 2007, 8:07am

ivory tearSoujiro X Misao! The connection was so apparent I made a fanfic about them.! and they look good for each other. Like, say their similarities..when Soujiro can swallow his hurt feelings and compensate with a smile, Misao does the same, only in a way that others see and know about it.I think Souji's just not so eloquent with his feelings while Misao is,but she doesn't want to make anyone sad because of what she's feeling. And Misao's been getting unrequited love from Aoshi, and the age gap is...well.. (shrugs) anyway! they're so cuute..hehe!| #63 Dec 14th 2007, 1:34am

SeconoSoujiro + Kaoru or Okita + OOC are pairings I usually look for in fics, though I see a lot of you think Misao and Soujiro are perfect for each other. It's just that with Misao and Soujiro, replies and reactions leave something to be desired - interaction between the two is mostly lighthearted bashing and flirting ...Gets annoying for me, haha. It just doesn't seem to capture the complexities of both their characters. Kaoru, on the other hand, is more openly expressive (not just being hyper and cute), and her compassion/openness matches quite well with Soujiro's conflicted character. =D | #64 Jun 22nd 2008, 3:44pm

ShadowDanseurI have to tell you all ... I'm so glad I found this forum! I'm in the middle of writing a story right now, and I'm about nine chapters in ... and I think I've decided that for this instance I really like the Aoshi/Kaoru pairing. It didn't start that way, but the more I write the more I feel that it's the only acceptable way to finish it. And I'm really intrigued by the pairing. Now, I'm a pretty big fan of the Kenshin/Kaoru pairing normally, but my favorite alternate pairing is Aoshi/Kaoru. And I don't know how it happened, but this story of mine is really turning from a K/K pairing to an A/K pairing. And besides, I really like the idea of making Kenshin suffer ... Lol! That makes me sound so evil, but I'm really enjoying writing the anguish parts of it. I dunno. You guys should go read it and let me know what you think fits ... Should she end up with Aoshi or Kenshin? The story is called Breaking The Habit. Feel free to stop by and let me know what you think .... | #65 Aug 27th 2008, 9:19pm

XxXThirteenXBlackXRosesXxXWell, unlike most animes I like, I do really like the canon pairings in Rurouni Kenshin but I do like alternate pairings too. (to a lesser extent though) My favorites are Sanosuke X Kaoru and Kenshin X Misao. |

LellowWow! so many weird pairings! I think the weirdest one I saw was Kaoru/Shishio... hahaha... that would be so weird! But think of the possibilities!!! One I would like to experiment with would be Tomoe/Aoshi.... don't ask HOW I'd pull that off... but I reckon they'd be an awesome couple to experiment with... |

zealot1138In the world of FF, I'd have to say my fave alt pairings are: Enishi/Kaoru - It's just an interesting balance for E to find love with the woman who is so like his sister yet different. She's probably the only one he could love. Saitou/Kaoru - Well, he's older and hot, and she's young and could use a real "man" in her life. I've found a lot of the FF stories out there to be quite "stimulating." (Am a fan of BelleDayNight's "Saitou's Ranch.") Was surprised to find I am starting to enjoy Aoshi/Kaoru pairings. I always felt Misao was the only one for him, but a lot of you writers have done a nice job making this A/K pairing work. p.s. Would love to read more spicy alt pairings of the above couples - come on gang! You can DO EET! |
