Why is there no good jeb/valencia fic, because it's practically the ONLY pairing that's canon.

Check out Origins. Not based around the pairing, but there's a lot of Jeb/Val dynamics.

@ Mer. I has ~500 words of a Nudge!clone fic where there's escaping and wtf-ery. She's all "Whoa real world."

I'm plotting out a shortfic where three experiments simply swarm a junior scientist with no plan in mind, somehow make it outside, and then split up because they have no social skills and only know how to communicate with each other by beating each other up. And they get terrified of leaves. Much fun, even though I have to research Alzheimer's for a human OC.

Myrah's stuff is good, and she'd deserve it.

Oh, definitely. I'm just betting against a lot of runner-ups. (That's the problem with authors who just sweep away the competition.)

You say there's no recent Figgy stuff, and then I checks my LJ friends. First entry - a Figgy fic by tanyart.

Just when I have no time to read fics. Damn.

I have an exam in less than a week. The fact that I'm on here should tell you something...

Terrified of leaves. I'm wanting to read that. If you ever get around to posting anything.

SAY THERE'S NO MARI!!!!

I haven't seen any new Mari in fucking ages.

I haven't seen any new Mari in fucking ages.

Neither have I. For Mai: there aren't any new Mari fics out there. (Perhaps I should PM Supergirrl to make sure this reversal comes true?)

Terrified of leaves.

Why not? They're crunchy-sounding and they fall from the big scary sky.

Of course, they land on the yummy dirt, so the fear doesn't last too long for the earth-eater. (Yes, there is a kid who eats earth because she thinks it tastes good- better than her normal diet, anyway. Don't ask me where I come up with this stuff.)

Dirt actually doesn't taste that bad. Gritty as hell, though.

Of course it's nathan who says that.

Sigh.

Here's an idea for you - how did Itex/Teh Skool start on cloning, and why? Who was their first experiment, and what did his/her clones make of all this.

Unless you wanna be real actual!science and say that Max+nudge+angel II were created from the taking of a single totipotent germ cell from Max's/Nudge's/Angel's as yet unimplanted embryoes. Which has plotchasms of its own... Pluses for 'Why don't the guys have clones'.

"Who was their first experiment, and what did his/her clones make of all this."

I'll bet you it's Hitler.

srsly. German company. Fanon states they've been around since before WWII. Hitler was a crazy bastard. Ergo, they cloned Hitler.

Non-Hitler, probably whoever was available/crazy enough to want mini-selves in the 1960s. World leaders. Crazily rich nutjobs. JFK. You get the idea.

"Why don't the guys have clones?"

I'll bet you it's that they're all failures. I mean, look at their track record:

- Iggy is blind. (I'll bet you the surgery had balls-all to do with it.)

- Gazzy's digestive system doesn't fucking work. (Although considering the flock's purpose -- soldiers, I think? -- there's probably another experiment with mimicry powers.)

- Fang is closer to the intended result, but he's not perfect. Kind of like Nudge, so I'll bet that Nudge has a clone and Fang doesn't because they "fixed" Nudge first.

Other theory is that everyone in the flock has a clone (except Total, Christ I hate that dog) in case of sudden death. We just haven't seen the guys' clones yet.

Oh, and Ari doesn't have a clone because he's just an Eraser, nothing worth keeping. Being Jeb's son is second to that.

"Of course it's nathan who says that."

Yes, I'm the resident paste-eater. om nom paste nom nom.

I'll bet you it's Hitler.

That would be so fucking awesome. The Director is just a pawn... or maybe Hitler's daughter/assistant, if one assumes that she was lying through her teeth when she started saying shite like "I'm a character from Tuck Everlasting." (And really, she's a bad guy, so it doesn't have to be AU if one assumes she's lying.)

Anyway.

Latest bunny is based on a story in which Max has never been outside and just knows that she's not supposed to be treated like this.

Why do authors assume that mutants know right away that they're being mistreated when they don't have any knowledge of the real world and how things are supposed to be? Experiments aren't even supposed to know things like ignoring someone when they're talking to you is rude; how are they going to learn that experimentation on sentient beings isn't kosher?

What if a mutant blamed himself/herself for the pain and the fear and the threat of death? What if, using their scanty knowledge of the world, they deduce that they are different and deserve their mutations? They aren't supposed to know any better, really. The Geneva Convention probably isn't standard small talk among scientists performing illegal experiments on humans.

Bunny: Mutant blames self for differences and sees the scientists as righteous.

EDIT: For Mai: there aren't any new Mari fics out there.I don't see Mari, but will this do?

"Bunny: Mutant blames self for differences and sees the scientists as righteous."

See, this is one of the big duhs of fandom. None of the mutants have exposure to outside morals.

"if one assumes that she was lying through her teeth when she started saying shite like "I'm a character from Tuck Everlasting.""

I was trying to backstory After Dark with her being 107, but eventually figured that you know what, she was being dangled 200 feet above the ground, I'm pretty sure anyone would start lying to save their asses.

I feel like dropping this bunny into the thread because I'll probably never use it.

Most of the good OC-joins-flock fanfics are based around the idea that a mutant has been sent to assassinate the flock by gaining everyone's trust. Then it always turns into some pretty heavy internal conflict within assassin!OC, ending with the assassin deciding not to kill Max and Co.

What if the mutant carries out his/her task and does manage to kill most/all of them off before returning to Itex/the School/Insert Your Favorite Evil Place Here?

(You can see why no one has done it before; why spend all that effort making a good OC only to turn him/her into someone that every reader will despise?)

Bahaha, I have two OCs in RC right now -- both are on the dark side, and work at the School. (Kyle is nominally "good", though -- he hates working at the School, and is just there 'cause it pays the mortgage. Prescott is a dickbag.)

But yeah. I like that idea.

Have you written enough stories?

Enough stories for what? And are you asking Nathan or me?

Hey, guys, I've got a few quick questions that'll help my story flow better. Thanks for any help!

1 - When is the Angel Experiment set? Like, what year? Could be the publishing date, but I can't find that either.

2 - What season is it when MR5 ends? A month would be nice, but I'm not sure if it ever mentions it.

3 - Does anyone besides me think the Voice is totally evil and / or controlled by Jeb?

4 - Are any of the flock's self-given birthdays mentioned in any of the books?

Might have more later.....

I think I'm one of the few who even stalks this place anymore v.v

1. 2005 is implied in TAE, but you can screw with this if you like -- I disregarded it to set RC in 2006 - 2008.

2. Late winter, around February.

3. I have a theory about the Voice, but... well, OK. The Voice is a four-man project. Jeb, Roland, and Reilly all provide voice talent. Jeb and Reilly write most of the material, with Roland throwing in an occasional contribution. A techie named Kyle is responsible for maintaining the equipment.

4. No.

1 - When is the Angel Experiment set? Like, what year? Could be the publishing date, but I can't find that either.

I would go find this out but I'm too lazy to get up...

2 - What season is it when MR5 ends? A month would be nice, but I'm not sure if it ever mentions it.

I wouldn't know this, because I never read MR5 (although I had a dream where I asked myself whether I should or not... then it switched to where I had wings and I was running away from someone and I couldn't really get my wings to work...)

3 - Does anyone besides me think the Voice is totally evil and / or controlled by Jeb?

I thought it had something about the voice being Jeb somewhere in the books but that may be mixed up somewhere in the books (please don't ask me if I have a reason to come on this site anymore)

4 - Are any of the flock's self-given birthdays mentioned in any of the books?

I thought there was something in the first book... I'm not sure though. I wouldn't know. I've read too many MR fanfics and thus gotten them and the books mixed up.
