In Japan, Valentine's Day is observed by members of the female gender who present chocolate gifts (either store-bought or handmade), usually to a member of the male gender, as an expression of love. The handmade chocolate is usually preferred by the receiver, because it is a sign that the receiving male is the girl's "only one". On White Day, the converse happens: males who received a "honmei-choco" [chocolate of love] or "Giri-choco" [chocolate of courtesy] on Valentine's Day are expected to return the favor by giving gifts, usually more expensive. Traditionally, popular White Day gifts are cookies, sugar candies, white chocolate, marshmallows as well as jewelries, lingerie, and stuffed animals. Sometimes the term sanbai gaeshi (literally, "thrice the return") is used to describe the generally recited rule that the return gift should be two to three times the cost of the Valentine's gift.

Origin

White Day was first celebrated in 1978 in Japan. It was started by the National Confectionery Industry Association (全国飴菓子工業協同組合) as an "answer day" to Valentine's Day on the grounds that men should pay back the women who gave them chocolate and other gifts on Valentine's Day. In 1977 a Fukuoka-shi confectionery company, Ishimura Manseido (石村萬盛堂), had marketed marshmallows to men on March 14, calling it Marshmallow Day (マシュマロデー).

Soon thereafter, confectionery companies began marketing white chocolate. Now, men give both white and dark chocolate, as well as other edible and non-edible gifts, such as jewelry or objects of sentimental value, or white clothing like lingerie, to women from whom they received chocolate on Valentine's Day one month earlier. If the chocolate given to her was giri choco, the man as well may not be expressing actual romantic interest, but rather a social obligation.

Plus if a man gets giri-choco the usual reply gift would be a white handkerchief(Something about wiping one's tears.)

FFnet is a habit I haven't been able to break over the years, and my writing serves as a form of unwinding for me. Ngayon lang ulit ako na-libre dahil nag-summer ako at sobrang busy.

Um, I think this part of the forum's dead na kasi it's been months since the last post but what the heck.

Hey everyone, I'm Marie. I'm a Filipino (God I'm so lame) and well, as is seen from my avatar, I don't really drabble that much into anime fanfiction, I just check into this pag walang nangyayari with the FF8 fandom. And these days, that happens often na. The FF8 page doesn't really get much action. Hay. Oh well. Anyhoo. I'm 17, turning 18 on November, and I go to Ateneo de Manila now. I used to go to Assumption noong grade school and high school. Well, contrary to some of you guys, I'm not really that into anime and even games per se na talaga. I just read fanfiction for fun. My friends even think na ang loser ko kasi I haven't gotten over this. Yuck. Screw them. Pero I was super duper mega addicted back in grade school.

Anyway. So yeah. I live in Libis in the weekdays and Cubao on most weekends and holidays. WEIRDO no? So yeah. Super happy when I chanced upon this forum. I was getting so lonely kasi I think I'm the only Pinoy actively participating in the FF8. Seryoso. I made friends from Hungary and England and the US and stuff na through fanfiction, pero iba pa rin yung Pinoy. I can't tell them everythig kasi they can't relate. GRR. Haha. So yeah. It'd be awesome to have Pinoy friends.

Well worth your while believe me.:) It's an FF8 fanfic, pero you don't have to like FF8 to appreciate it. Sobrang ganda. Check out the 1000+ reviews it has if you don't wan't to take my word for it.

fave anime ko ang HunterXHunter. next is Rurouni Kenshin. bahala na yung iba, rumble-rumble ang placings. pero mataas ang posisyon ng mga music-themed series like La Corda D'Oro tsaka Nodame Cantabile.

One of the best anime/manga ang Nodame Cantabile. Don't mind the drawing that much. Sobrang laugh trip yan with a dash of 'romance'. kakaibang relationship than your normal shoujo flick. Meron din yan live action pero mas okay pa rin yung anime.

pero do ko talaga type ung anime version...and yes, it's bcoz i dont feel the drawing/illustration. hindi naman sa i'm 'judging the book by its cover' pero mas sanay na ko sa anime illustrations na...modern, parang ung illustrations sa...FMP. yung parang very detailed..

the actors were really gooooood din kasi. ueno juri and tamaki hiroshi were very perfect for the role. BTW, NC LIVE would be airing a 2 movie special at 2010...wow, i'llbe watching out that one. ad yea, i'm highly recommending the live series.
