A computer class at 8 in the morning isn't going to be so bad, is it?

And hey, in case you were wondering, there are 9 justices on the US Supreme Court. Because I didn't learn that in, oh, I dunno, third grade. *headdesk*

oh come on Christopher! join the darkside with me.

Yeah, I know. I'm going to take another read through "Misspent Youth" and see if it really needs that sequel rightnow, and if that sequel comes to me straightaway.

But I might still change my mind.

YESYESYES!!!

there's this person who lives with me who may just not want to hear "Honey, guess what I'm doing for the next three weeks?"

Two things. The almighty guilt trip: "Honey, I didn't do it last year because I was so worried about you I could barely think straight." *insert pouty face here* It has the added benefit of being true. You can show her your thread posts here to prove it.

Second, remind her that she was supposed to attend a certain concert with you last year in exchange for you enduring sparklytorture on film. You're probably going to be dragged to sequeltorture this year, so spending a few hours a day cackling over your character enjoying the benefits of an older woman is a rather lopsided exchange, considering the brain cells you risk going to see New Moon.

Do not be afraid to apply both methods, though I would wait a day or more after the first to start the second.

Oh dear. I could get a job teaching at your school, couldn't I? (I'm sure there's a Hermione joke that would fit here.) I can send you some of my SC and legal studies books so you can write a final paper that might teach your professor a few things.

A computer class at 8 in the morning isn't going to be so bad, is it?

Depends on the level of difficulty and if they plan on monitoring what you're doing at your computer.

Actually, once she bailed on that, she got us Knicks tickets instead. And she likes basketball almost as much as I like sparkly emotionally-abusive vampires.

And you're an effing genius. The first one would work, but that's a bit low, tbh. She'd cave immediately, and I'd feel horrible about it and wouldn't have any fun and do a half-assed story. But to trade half a NaNo for "Holy crap do I have to watch this nonsense again? And where are the aliens and the femmeslash?"? That's brilliant.

Probably. I think I could teach this class better than he can, and I'm not being arrogant. I hate Government and yet I feel like I'm back in high school. There's a REASON people pay good money to go here and it's not to sit here and hear the same lesson we learned in elementary school. Gar.

Depends on the level of difficulty

Intro to Computing. A gen ed for this school AND the one I'm transferring to next fall, or I wouldn't bother.

if they plan on monitoring what you're doing at your computer.

I don't think we actually get on computers until the lab portion of the class, which I'm taking in the afternoon.

Yeah, maybe. But the pouty face might be cute. You could try the pout without putting the actual excuse into words.

I'd feel horrible about it and wouldn't have any fun

Why? I do not understand the potential guilt trip about your free time. I mean, you could be hanging out until all hours with your friends. At least this kind of distraction has the benefit of you being at home and taking breaks to tell your wife how pretty she looks every 15 minutes.

Wait, there's an intro to computing class that doesn't involve machinery? I think when you go home for Thanksgiving you should tell your parents all about the wonderful things you're learning in school like the location of the calculator on the computer and the fact that there were 13 colonies! Say it in all seriousness like it's the first time you've heard any of this. If anyone makes it seems like it's things you should've known, hint that you might be learning more from a school that actually challenges you. Who knows? You might be able to transfer early. On the plus side, you should have perfect grades when you transfer.

LOL... you're amazing.

And if MSU would let me APPLY already...we'd be going somewhere. Unfortunately, the application link isn't. Working.

Reputation over substance? The name on the diploma versus the quality of the education received? The perception of value in direct contrast to value perceived by the individual during the acquiring of education, but benefited from when people are suitably impressed by diploma received? Also known as reason number 12 I eventually didn't care that I didn't go to Harvard.

*sigh* Someone please tell me how far they've gotten with NaNo today so I feel guilty and start writing again.

:) Of course.

Who knew two girls could generate so much trash and laundry?! I got out of Government only to come back to the dorm room and clean clean clean because we have a prospective student coming to stay with us. It's still not done, but 45 minutes of cleaning is enough for one day, yes?

I don't like the way my Egyptian novel is turning out as the chapters are short and I've had to combine them. Ugh. I think I'm neglecting my Nano work.

I've downloaded Percy Jackson and the Olympians. I've heard its good. Any one else got some good book recomendations at the moment?

Morning lovelies. (eep I sound like my boss)

So is it the same holiday with a different name or a just a similar holiday on the same date?

And as Christopher noted, it marks the end of World War I; a perfect time to honor veterans.

People died because they wanted to end the War at 11am on the 11/11.

(The things you remember from high school history.)

In Australia we actually honour our veterans on ANZAC day, Remembrance Day is more just remembering World War One (and Two).

#1175 Nov 10th, 4:45pm
Rita Arabella Black

I don't know about that; wanted to end the war, I just know the Armistice was signed at 11 am on the 11th month on the 11th day. Of cours it was 1918.

Nope. It was actually signed around 5am and sent round immediately saying the cease-fire was to start at 11am. Lots of people died.

Australian's can get a bit bitter about the British management of WW1 - it comes out in our history lessons.

Greetings all. I did the 11 thing for rememberence day, I was at Vision Australia, showing off my computer skills - for tafe next year. I need to learn spread sheets.

Interesting story, my teacher's grandfather's watch stopped at the exact moment of 11/11/11 and he thought in the war.

I agree Sarah. I didn't know any of that.

Gilly, why would you write a conversation with a dog?

I can't sleep. I'm going to the dr tomorrow because of my ears and them not wanting to stop popping.

I agree Sarah. I didn't know any of that.

Well history lessons vary from country to country. As I said - we like to focus on all the bad stuff Britain did.

Gilly, why would you write a conversation with a dog?

Because my character is talking to the dog. It's hard because people always sound stupid when they talk to animals or babies.

I'm going to the dr tomorrow because of my ears and them not wanting to stop popping.

Ouch! I hate it when my ears pop.

Happy Veteran's Day! (Or Remembrance Day for those outside the US)

I also get a free meal at Applebee's :)

But I need to go to bed I promised Mackenzie I would take her to the parade in the morning, mostly because 1) she loves parades and 2) her favorite part of parades are the military stuff in them and most the stuff in the parade will be military stuff tomorrow. You would think she would be indifferent to the military stuff since she has been around military stuff since she was born...literally. Her shirt she wore in the hospital actually said "Property of the US Government" underneath the hospital's name because it was a Naval hospital.

Bad? Britain? Surely not ;-)

IMO the thinkg that for me captured the utter futility of the trench warfare in WWI (and sadly a lot of warfare since) is the final sequence of Blackadder Goes Forth. Can't watch it without crying.

That video was very good. The video. And Hugh Laurie was in it, too.

Well, it's after 3 am and I got woken up by the inconsiderate bastard in the next room who is apparently deaf. The television is so ** loud I can actually distinguish the words. I tried knocking on the adjacent door and asking them to please turn it down, but to no avail. What is wrong with ** people?

Hurray! They got a call (I heard that too) and they turned the television down. Maybe I can go back to sleep for 3 more hours. I made it to 14,000 words, but I'm still behind, apparently. That's okay. Good night. :)

I went to Vision Australia, as the computer lady Nicolle who teaches computer to blind people at VA wanted to assess my skills for tafe/university. She was impressed.

This. My thoughts exactly.

I'll force myself tomorrow. I don't know when, but tomorrow is in an hours time. How are you, Katy?

I think I have alergies - or an infection. My dad said my eye (the skin - my left eye is artificial) is red and puffy. My nose has been running.
