chibisanzoTopic: Watari There's not much about him, but from what I gathered from theria.net, he has a skill right? To quote: "Watari has a rather strange power. He can give "life" to drawings and machines, basically inorganic objects. The "life" is given by granting the thing a spirit. However his drawing skills rate at about a preschooler's level." Has someone actually written a fic where it touches on Watari's ability? If so, could you point me in the direction of it? ^^'' I have been searching to no avail. It's certainly interesting though. And regarding his past, and as to why he became a shinigami, does anybody know, or has it not been clarified yet in the manga? |

StarzaI don't think it's clear how or why Watari became a Shinigami. His past is shrouded in mystery, and if you read Theria's translations up to date, you'll know why. ~_^ Not saying for spoilers sake, but sadly, the manga discontinued for goodness knows how long, although two side stories have popped up in the past few months.Unfortuantely, most YnM fanfics I come across with Watari in it focus mostly about his obsession with a sex changing potion than his drawing ability. I think people tend to forget his other ability. :/ | #2 Dec 29th 2005, 12:27am

chibisanzoYeah, sometimes I wonder whether it's worth buying the licensed manga when the series has been on hiatus for so long anyway. Thanks though, for the extra info. I try not to read the translations first to not spoil myself before I get the manga ^^''.It would be nice to see a fic based on his skill. Most of the time, he is just there for comic relief. |

EnchanteRheaMy 'Against the Wind' does deal with Watari's ability to give life (soul, spirit, whichever term works for you) to the inanimate, but it doesn't become relevant until the second half of the story (which would be the part I'm working on right now). I don't write Watari for comic relief, myself; but then again, I freely admit to overplaying his other side. -.-| #4 Dec 29th 2005, 6:44am . Edited Jan 02nd 2006, 5:02pm

Literary EagleIt seems that there aren't many fanfics that focus on Watari's ability to breathe life into artwork. Off the top of my head, I can only recall two fics like that (and one of them was written by me, which is kind of pathetic ^^). Anyway, if you're interested, the two fics are "Fledglings" by Ysabet, and my own story, "The Garden in the Clouds". Waah, the world needs more Watari fics! EDIT: Just so it's clear... When I said "pathetic", I was poking fun at myself, not calling anybody else pathetic. Didn't want that to cause confusion. ^_^ | #5 Jan 02nd 2006, 9:25am . Edited Jan 02nd 2006, 3:53pm

chibisanzoAh, many thanks for pointing the fics out. I liked your story Literary Eagle ^_^ Will have to reserve some time for the other ones, but I will most definitely check them out. It's really good to hear that there are Watari-centric fics out there which touch on his abilities. |

LadybugNixieI am currently writting a story that revolves around Watari's past. Since I could never find anything about it. I figured I would make one for him. In my planning for it, I've touched on his obsession with the sex change potion and his ablility to bring drawings to life, although I've made it so that he can bring other people's drawings to life as well as his own. |

chibisanzowoah, that would be cool. Good luck with it, and I can't wait to read it.| #8 Jun 18th 2006, 12:45pm

coco melancholyI love Watari and have seen several fanfic's that do his character tremendous justice. His is after all well loved in the YnM world. I know he worked on some big computer project, can't remember it now though to save my life. |

TerraAftershockI'm annoyed that we only know a little bit about Watari's past (through Theria's translation of the later GensouKai arch chapters). I wanna know more! It looks fascinating. I've pretty much created a past for him using what little I know, which I'll be putting in "The Ballad of Reading Gaol", as well as mentions of his powers. However, it is kind of hard to write for Watari. Between his usual cheerful side and the way he reacted at the climax of the Kyoto arch, there's a lot of space. But please, no more alchoholic, angsty Watari fics, please! Watari's attitude is not one of "nobody likes me, everybody hates me, I'm gonna go eat some worms"!! | #10 Aug 16th 2007, 6:10pm
