Topic: The Another Order Fanfiction Competition 2009

Without further ado, here are the rules for The Another Order Fanfiction Competition 2009!

---

The Another Order Fanfiction Competition 2009

The competition has two categories. Entrants may submit no more than one story per category:

Darkside Category: Since Capcom will be re-writing many aspects of Resident Evil 2’s storyline in Darkside Chronicles we’d like you to re-imagine Ada’s fate. If you were Capcom how would you re-write Ada’s ‘death’ scene for this game? Anything goes- you could adapt either the Leon-A or Leon-B scenes from the original game or come up with a brand new scenario. You could write it from Ada’s point of view, Leon’s or a third character. It could be a song fic, a flashback, a tragedy or even a spoof. There are two main rules for this category:

1.The main part of the story can be set anywhere between Ada’s ‘death’ in Raccoon City and her resurrection. It’s your choice whether you want to focus only on one part of this timeline (such as Ada’s death) or if you want your story to cover everything from her death to her resurrection.

2.The entry must be between 1000 and 5000 words long and in prose format.

Challenge Category: This category is more open. These stories can be set in any time or place, but they must be Leon/Ada based and they must incorporate the theme: New Beginnings.

Take this theme and do whatever you choose- Do you want to show Leon and Ada making a new beginning together or apart? Or will you take the theme down a darker path and show the beginning of a new threat that will torment our intrepid heroes? Or you can do something else entirely. It’s up to you as long as you incorporate the theme.

Entries must be between 500 and 2500 words in length and in prose format.

But that’s not all. We’ll be judging entries into the Challenge Category on a points based system and we will award you bonus points if your story cleverly mentions or involves any or all of the following:

1.Has a character saying the words: ‘I didn’t order anchovies with this pizza.’

2.Odd socks

3.A dozen red roses

4.The word ‘Armageddon’

5.A character going spelunking (i.e. cave diving)

*Please note that these bonus points apply to the Challenge Category only!*

For more details on the rules and how to enter please see below.

HOW to ENTER

All entries must be submitted by 22nd August 2009 at 11:59 PM (London GMT).

Entries should be both published on fanfiction.net using the author’s penname and emailed to the judges at this address: anotherorder[at]gmail.com

Please email your stories as an attachment in Microsoft Word format. If we can’t open your entry then we can’t read it and it won’t be entered!

In your email please include the following:

Your penname on fanfiction.net.

Which category you want your story to be entered into.

Any relevant details of your story such as its rating and if you have used any additional pairings besides Leon/Ada.

Whether you want the judges to email you feedback on your entry when the competition is over. We will be scoring using a points system and we can also provide a brief comment on your work if you would like one.

And if you don’t want your entry to be archived in a C2 on fanfiction.net please let us know in advance.

When we receive your story we’ll send you an acknowledgement email.

RULES and SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

1.The competition is open to anyone with an account on fanfiction.net, with the exception of the three judges: Ada Adore, Donatien Valiarde and Neuromance.

2.Each writer can enter a maximum of two stories: i.e. one in each of the two categories. No individual should enter the competition more than once by using different pennames or fanfiction.net accounts.

3.Entries should be based on the briefs mentioned above and should be focused primarily on the pairing of Leon S Kennedy and Ada Wong from Resident Evil. Additional, secondary pairings, such as Leon/Claire, will be accepted as long as the main pairing is clearly Leon/Ada.

4.Remember to stick to the word limits! The Darkside category stories must be between 1000 and 5000 words long, and the special challenge stories must be between 500 and 2500 words long. Minor overages will be permitted, but there will be a penalty for stories that either do not meet the minimum or that grossly exceed the maximum.

5.The competition is open to stories using virtually any perspective or style except poems. Song fics will be accepted, but the song lyrics will not be counted towards the total word length. Should you choose to write a Song fic, we request that you do not allow the lyrics to dominate your story, as the original material by the author must reach at least the minimum word count on its own. Any Song fic entries that do not give proper credit to the artist of their song will be disqualified.

6.The deadline for submission is 22nd August 2009 at 11:59 PM (London GMT) and any entries entered after this date, even if they’re really great, will not be accepted.

7.All entries must be written in English.

8.Any rating (from K to M) will be accepted. Please make the rating clear when submitting the story to the judges.

9.Entries must be tastefully written and have a readable standard of English. The judges reserve the right to remove any entries that do match this or any other criteria.

10.All entries must be displayed on the fanfiction.net website in the Resident Evil section so they can be read by others. All entries, as long as they meet the criteria, will be compiled into a new C2 on fanfiction.net and a link to this C2 will be published on Livejournal and possibly other Leon and Ada websites to be mentioned at a later date. Copyright remains with the author and links or content of any entry will not be displayed outside fanfiction.net or the C2 archive without prior permission from the author.

11.Entrants are allowed to publish their work on websites outside fanfiction.net at their discretion.

12.Entries don’t have to be brand new. If you have an older story, whether published on a website or not, that matches the criteria then feel free to enter it.

13.The judges’ decision is final and prizes are non-negotiable.

14.The judges reserve the right to extend the deadline in order to encourage more entries or in other special circumstances. All entrants will be informed if this happens.

15.Entries must not be plagiarised from another author. Plagiarised material will be removed from the competition, and proper action will be taken against the offender, as per fanfiction.net rules. Plagarism will also result in a ban from the forum.

16.If a writer changes their mind about their entry and wants to withdraw it, substitute it for a new story or make vital corrections they must contact one of the judges and submit their final entry before the deadline. Any changes after the deadline will not be considered.

17.It would be appreciated if writers, when putting their story up onto fanfiction.net, briefly mentioned the competition in either the story summary or introduction (e.g. “This story was entered into The Another Order Fanfiction Competition 2009”) and provided a link to the forum. We’d like to get as much publicity as possible because if this competition is popular then we might do it every year. Plus it’d be a great boost for our forum and the Leon/Ada fandom.

PRIZES

There will be a maximum of two winners from each category:

First place

Second place

Prizes will be announced at a later date.

If we have only one entry for a particular category then that story wins first prize by default.

Winners will be announced by mid-September. The judges will announce an official date before revealing the results.

QUESTIONS and FEEDBACK

All questions or feedback can be emailed to anotherorder[at]gmail.com. Or you can post a question in the 'Teaser' thread of the forum where the competition was first announced. We will endeavour to answer any questions as quickly as possible, but bear in mind that there are three of us and for more complicated questions we might have to confer.

And finally- good luck!
