Topic: Stories Outside of FFN-Original Stories Discussion

So, I know that several people have original stories. Glory and Cel thought that we should make a thread so that Cel (and other people) could share (more) about them. So here it is. Enjoy!

I'll start, I guess:

The series is called Magical Melody. It's about two "cousins" (Hope and Faith Morganson) that look exactly alike. The first story is about them trying to find out who they really are. They find lockets and suddenly mythical creatures start appearing. The second book is more about the villian's plot to control the world. It dives deeper into Hope's and Faith's past and their lockets' powers.

That's all I have on it.

Well, I have my own series I'm working on, and here's the general summary:

DrakenHart (first book, pending title):

A young girl at the naive age of nine suddenly finds herself in a different world one day when walking out of her room to go to her bus stop, that includes many strange occurrences causing her to question her sanity: a dragon that talks with some sort of cliche 'mind-speak', a boy who has a funny accent, and a village made of peasants one would find in a medieval movie. How did she get here? And what is this talk about zombies and skeletons? Little does she know that an evil magic brought her here on accident, starting a chain reaction including uncovering an old prophecy that talked of a near Doom's Day.

It's in First Person POV, and it is my main novel I'm working on. I have several other side ideas, but this is the alpha on the list. X3 Anybody else?

Ooh, ooh! *waves hand* Me next! *mauled*

XD Anyway, I've got a story that currently is called "The End of Genesis", or TEoG for short. It's about an alien species named (yes, it's a weird name that's difficult to pronounce) the Amxplri, who lived on the fifth planet of our solar system until it was destroyed two million years ago. This story explains why it's no longer there, as well as where the asteroid belt came from. XP It is, like my Pokemon fanfics, written in the first-person viewpoint of a non-human narrator, in this case one of the aliens. He's named Xynophin after the Greek historian Xenophon, for several reasons: The name "Xenophon" means "foreign voice", which fits him perfectly considering he's an alien, and he's a historian of his species. But yeah, I like his name. XP

The name "Amxplri" comes from the Latin word "exemplar", meaning original. 'Cause they're the original sentient beings.

The Amxplri have blue fur of colors that vary between genders, and look a little like a kangaroo. Heh. They have heads that resemble those of cats, only without the whiskers. They each have two tails, which are prehensile (like a monkey's, only to a much greater degree) and can be used to grab things, as they have no arms or hands. They have legs and feet like a kangaroo's or cat's. The males have stomach pouches, but the females don't; the males therefore are the ones who raise children. See, the females lay eggs, which are incubated in the male's pouch, and then, once they hatch, raised by the father. They don't have... breasts, because the babies can already consume solid food when they hatch. And, since their planet is farther away from the sun than ours, they have slightly larger eyes than ours to capture more light. But other than that their eyes are the same, besides a different range of colors (their eyes tend to be gray and green most commonly, instead of brown and blue like ours). They have a higher technology level than us humans in most areas, although there are a few places they're lacking, most notably space exploration. When the book starts, they're just about to send the first personnel-carrying rocket into space, although they have been observing other planets and stars for a long time.

You can tell I put a lot of thought into this. XD I have some pictures, I'll post them later. The pictures were made on PowerPoint, though, so don't expect anything realistic. ^^;

Yays! :D

Well, right now I'm working on a story called "Upgrade" which is basically about this advanced "school" of sorts that focuses in the field of videogaming and robotics. It follows Noa Silt, a "student" there who is trying to get to Wolf Rank (There are five ranks, Hyena, Dog, Fox, Wolf, Beta and Alpha) and fame with the "help" of her best friend Edwin. Hehe, basically randomness with a whole lotta videogames thrown in.

-killed-

Anyways, I've started thinking out my plot, and my characters, so I'm bound to start soon. Eventually. Maybe. If I don't think of something else first. Yays to the trash robot! :D -dies-

Ooh, that sounds lovely, Cel! :D I'd love to read it, I love sci-fi. My dad has whole bookshelves filled with sci-fi and fantasy, and I like to borrow books from him whenever I'm at his house during the summer. In fact, this summer, I plan to take a series from his bookshelf and read it all, most likely Dragonriders of Pern by Anne Mcafrey (or however you spell her last name) since I love that series. X3

That sounds interesting, DL. Like a sort of surreal thing... And a nine year old protagonist in first person POV. 8D Good luck!

EC, you like fantasy, too? That sounds interesting as well, I'm not sure what to say to it, though.

SU, that also sounds... interesting. *shot for too many "interesting"s* XD But Edwin is an awesome name. 8D I wanna go to that school, it sounds fun.

EDIT: @ DL: I haven't heard of that series, but most of my family loves sci-fi, too. Our collectively favorite TV show is Star Trek. I don't really have any favorite sci-fi authors, most of the books I read are fantasy, but I have read and enjoyed some Asimov stuff. =D

Yeah, it's in sort of double First POV, though, because it's the narrator going back to her younger days, telling a story to someone else. It doesn't seem like it, though, unless you read the prologue, which people rarely ever do. -.-; They're lame like that, I guess.

Seriously though, Cel, SU, EC, I love these stories of yours! I swear, if you guys need me to beta them or anything, I'd be glad to! XD Although, with Cel's story, there might be some words you made up and all that will foil my simple mind.... ^w^;

And SU, those first three ranks remind me first of my 'The Perfect Harmony of Hearts' ranks, and second of Star Fox. XD (Falco ftw!)

#7 Nov 03rd 2008, 2:36pm
Celebi96

Yes, there are lots of words I've had to make up... I made sure that every new word and name had never been used before. Thus resulting in lots of unnecessary "y"s. *shot*

Oh, so the narrator is telling a story about herself. That's the same way I have mine; the prologue is written as if it's all being written down after it all already happened. But the narrator is nice enough to, considering that he's the only one out of maybe five of his species left alive by the end of the book, explain stuff that may be ambiguous to people of other species. 8D And at the end, there'll be an epilogue written the same way, summing it all up. Basically a "so now you know what happened, here's what to do about it" thing.

Yeah, I love that! :3 You know, you describe things so well...I mean, you could be a scientist or something else super-duper smart! 83

Hmm, it sucks that my laptop died and I can't get it to charge, meaning I can't update anything I wasn't able to transfer to my mom's laptop, aka DrakenHart series. 3X It makes me sad! And also, I can't update any of my fanfics like tPHoH, etc. TT_TT

My favorite genres are fantasy and mystery. I'm planning a mystery series (Musical Mysteries). Yeah, it's also related to music...sort of. There's also another series about twins (again), only they're Chinese and there's a boy (Long [dragon]) and a girl (Fenghuang [Chinese phoenix]). Don't know what I'm going to do with them yet. I also have a million other series (all of my stories are part of a series) and some other stuff...

#10 Nov 03rd 2008, 3:04pm
Celebi96

My story is partially mystery, too. It revolves around two separate crimes that the two main characters have been framed for. These crimes are somehow connected to ancient ruins and legends left behind by civilizations of the past, and to the eventual destruction of the planet. There will be several completely unpredicted (hopefully) plot twists, which will have been hinted at throughout the book. Needless to say, the Amxplri are not the only sentient species on their planet, although they think they are.

And thanks DL! I really think I'm not that good at descriptions, I'm better with character interactions/development and action. ^^;

Your laptop died? That must suck, I'm sorry. I know how you feel, my computer is on its deathbed...

I like lots of series:

Pendragon by D.J. MacHale (it gave me a lot of the ideas for the Writer's Block RP =D)

Shannara by Terry Brooks

Inheritance by Christopher Paolini (although I don't really like it that much anymore; the plot isn't that good)

...I forgot the rest. ^^;

Inheritance by Christopher Paolini (although I don't really like it that much anymore; the plot isn't that good)

Yeah, I kinda lost interest in it, too, once I noticed that it's practically a fantasy version of Star Wars.

Anyway, I love anything by R.A. Salvatore, 'cause Drizzt and Guenhwyvar are win. I also like anything by Vicki Pettersson. Seriously - one of the best writers I've ever seen.

Lovecraft is the master of insanity. xD Whoo! -wants a Cthulhu plushie-

I'll talk about Atrum Aegis in a little bit. Let me finish my homework...

Guardians of Legend- This is only a possible name and I'm not even sure I'm gonna go ahead with it. I want to wait until I become a better writer... Anyway, it's about a group of creatures who are the guardians of Earth. They are based off the legendaries, but hopefully Nintendo won't notice and sue me... There's about 20 total, but that number might change.

The main characters are...

Aisha, the guardian of light. (based off Arceus)

Tyler, the guardian of death. (based off Giratina)

Shadow, the guardian of day. (my own, but with Mewtwo-ish personality)

Lucas, the guardian of light. (my own, but with Deoxys-ish personality)

Adrian, the guardian of nightmares. (based off Darkrai)

Serena, the guardian of dreams. (based off Cresselia)

Ryan, the guardian of electricity.

Ember, the guardian of fire.

Kai, the guardian of water. (based off Kyogre)

Adam, the guardian of earth. (based off Groudon)

Fern, the guardian of plants.

Cody, the guardian of air. (based off Mew)

Emma, the guardian of emotion. (based off Mesprit)

Uriah, the guardian of knowledge. (based off Uxie)

Alexa, the guardian of willpower. (based off Azelf)

Jacob, the guardian of instinct.

Lark, the guardian of soul. (based off Latios)

Robin, the guardian of spirit. (based off Latias)

The pairings are undecided, as of now and their clothes are still being decided on as well. Their origin is planned out VERY similarly to how I planned the legendaries. God created Aisha and Tyler to watch over Earth. Then Aisha created the others to help out and became the official leader of the group. She has actually pretty much forgotten that it was originally intended for her and Tyler to share the duty, but he had not.

Dang, now I want to write a story like that (different plot). Screw you, imagination. -Bangs myself with Mesprit's pole-

okay, Ive had this idea mulling about for a while now...

Basically, on a distant magical fantasy world-thingy, the race of quasi-industrial, totalitarian sparkly people (think LotR elves, but more shiny and pompous) and the race of hideous, barbarian fish people (like orcs, but less flesh-eating) decide for various stupid reasons to declare genocidal war on each other. In the middle of this is a group consisting of:

-a conservative, arrogant, meek hypochondriac engineer (basically, a magical nerd) and emmisary of the shiny people

-a tomboyish, boorish, uncivilized warrior-lady (who, unlike every other female in fantasy, is just as ugly as the males of her species) and emmisary of the fish people

-a human sorcerer and demonologist who basically stares the universe into submission and doesn't want the kingdom he lives in get caught up in this war

-the human protagonist's demonic familiar, who hasn't killed him yet because she still thinks she can trick him into selling her his soul

-and a bard who follows them around whether they want him to or not and never stops with the stupid mandolin-playing.

This group wants to avert the war and goes on a quest to a sunken continent to awaken an ancient cosmic power that symbolizes the concept of neutrality, in the hopes it'll be compelled to stop the conflict.

Still need to work out the nuts and bolts, but that's it in a nutshell, barring the shocking twist I'm not giving away here.

These sound like awesome ideas! 8D Way to go, Attila, ripping off GF without giving it away...

Emma, the guardian of emotion. (based off Mesprit)

Uriah, the guardian of knowledge. (based off Uxie)

Alexa, the guardian of willpower. (based off Azelf)

Maybe you should change either the names or the thing they guard, it's a little obvious if you know anything about Pokemon. Maybe make Uriah the guardian of "intelligence", not "knowledge". And you should probably change the names of the other two 'cause I can't think of any synonyms. XP

And maybe you should make it so that God created all of them at once, since if Aisha created the others then it would make her all-powerful. And if you want someone to be a protagonist (like I think you're planning for her to be) then they can't be omnipotent, it just ruins the story. Trust me on this one, I've tried it. T-T

But if you're just going to make her a mentor character, then ignore me. Or if she lost her powers after creating them, or something. 8D

-a tomboyish, boorish, uncivilized warrior-lady (who, unlike every other female in fantasy, is just as ugly as the males of her species) and emmisary of the fish people

Excellent! Down with stereotypes!! =D

I just got another idea. The story was originally going to be a Pokémon fanfic, but the more I thought about it, the more ideas came to me...unfortunately. I might still right a Pokémon version of the idea, though.

Main Characters:

Sari Iras-auburn hair, blue green eyes, ?

Lynn Nnyl-golden brown hair, dark blue eyes, Water

Levina Anivel-light blond hair, gray eyes, Lightning

Kenna Annek-bright red hair, amber eyes, Fire

Ellen Nelle-platinum blond hair, violet eyes, Light

Luna Anul-black hair, dark brown eyes, Dark

Eartha Ahtrae-medium brown hair, green eyes, Earth

Aneira Ariena-sandy hair, light blue eyes, Ice

Each of the characters control an element, except for Sari. She doesn't know what she controls yet.

I'm calling the series Elements. The first book is called The Eight of Us. It's basically introducing the characters and enemies.

The main characters' names (first and last) are palindromes. I got the idea from Holes, where Stanley Yelnats is a palindrome. I thought it was cool, and it solved my problem of searching for last names.

What do you think?

You know, EC, it's not good to plan on a series. Write one book, with a complete plot and characterization and everything, and then make a sequel if you want to. Because every book in a series should be able to be read by itself, and if you put all the characterization in the first one, you'll just have to characterize again in the next.

-Grumble, grumble, grumble- I know, Cel, but I can't stand it when books end. Besides, it's not like I'm going to leave a book with a cliffhanger. Being the idiot that I am, I have already planned out the ending. Also, I have a lot of ideas for all of my stories, and I can't fit all of them in one book... I'm an idiot.

No, you're not an idiot. And if you can't fit them all in one book, that's fine, but make sure to reintroduce the characters in each one. And what counts as a good-size book to you?

EeveeCelebi749

-Thinks- I have no idea. I always try to make my stories really long because none of my chapters outside of FF.net even reach a page (I'm working on that). Reintroducing characters is one of the only things I'm good at.

#27 Nov 04th 2008, 12:29pm
Attila12

Thanks, Cel~! ^^ I did change a few things around and came up with the pairing that I THINK I'm going to use.

Aisha- the guardian of life

Tyler- the guardian of death

Adrian- the guardian of nightmares

Serena- the guardian of dreams

Lucas- the guardian of light

Shadow- the guardian of darkness

Talia- the guardian of time

Parker- the guardian of space

Robin- the guardian of spirit

Lark- the guardian of soul

Ember- the guardian of fire

Ryan- the guardian of electricity

Fern- the guardian of plants

Kai- the guardian of water

Adam- the guardian of earth

Cody- the guardian of air

Emma- the guardian of emotion

Dexter- the guardian of intellect

Rachel- the guardian of willpower

Jacob- the guardian of instinct

As for having Aisha creating the others (other than Tyler of course), she is the being of life and can thus create new life. She does not have absolute power, just power over life. Without her, things cannot live.

Just fuse together a bunch of chapters, then. Set a goal when you start a chapter, either a page goal or a plot goal or both. My first two stories, I tried to keep the chapters between 3 & 6 pages each. In Ancient Origins, I'm trying for between 5 & 8 pages each, and in my novel I'm going for at least 6 pages each chapter. And tell yourself "This will happen this chapter", and if it happens, then break off and start a new chapter at the most suspenseful point. If what you were planning for that chapter doesn't happen, and the chapter is just dragging on and on, then end it and start a new chapter with the same goal in mind. As you get better, raise your goals like I did.

IMO, an average novel is about 250 to 300 pages, a good novel is 300 to 400 pages, and a great novel is 400 pages or more. I'm going for over 300 pages with my novel.

EDIT: O hai, Attila. Looks good. ^_^ And that works, I was just wondering. 'Cause deus ex machina as a main character = sucky main character.

And wait, did you say "pairing"?! O_O

@ Cel: Thanks! Now I'm pondering on btw and pwn...

Well, I was planning one-sided romance in the second Magical Melody book, some other guy's side. Faith is his crush. This is supposed to result in problems, since he keeps following Hope and Faith around. Of course, my imagination kicks in again and some interesting stuff happens...

Attila12

Oh yes. ^^ I'm just worried that they might be too cliched...

Here are the ones I THINK I'm gonna do.

Aisha x Tyler (of course :P)

Adrian x Serena

Lucas x Shadow

Talia x Kyle (I changed Parker's name to this. Basically time x space)

Ember x Ryan

Fern x Dexter

Kai x Adam

Cody x Emma

Rachel x Jacob

Again, I'm worried that these ones are two cliched. Also, I wanted to inform you that despite their status as time and space, Talia and Kyle are based more off of Registeel and Regirock than Dialga and Palkia.

I'm going to have Edwin- the lovable guy character- fall for his best friend Noa- the more serious, moody character- near the middle of the book and have him completely freaking out about it, while Noa is completely oblivious. She's too busy building robots to notice anything, after all. Yays~

I'm alright with it. I can write it and read it, but I don't make the entire book revolve around romance. I make it revolve around adventure, suspense, mystery, etc. instead. Although, the romance will be at least partially important to the plot, considering they're going to have kids partway through... ^^; *shot*

Dragonluvr1993

Also, "pwn" means to "totally beat up someone" or "do better than someone else", kinda like owning/serving someone in basketball. It's basically internet slang. X3

Well, I normally revolve around romance mostly in my fanfics, but for my main I won't have that; instead, the only romance would be at the end of one of the last books, and...well, never mind, that would spoil it, but let's just say that it'll get delayed. XD For a long time.

Hmm, I should post some of my other ideas...well, I'll do the rest later, but here's a small summary for you guys to mull over:

Serpent Whispers: Veronica (dang, I love that name), better known as 'Ronny' by her friends, seems like a pretty average girl. But, with all things in life, the truth doesn't lie skin deep - and she knows that well. Her entire life, she has known some entity in her mind that constantly commented on her surroundings, telling her secrets about the universe, whether she wanted to know or not.

It's only about two pages long on paper now, but one day I may sit down and actually write it. It'll only be a single novel, since I can't really see it spanning for more than one book.

#39 Nov 04th 2008, 3:24pm
EeveeCelebi749

I have an excerpt from the first book of Magical Melody:

Who am I?

Whenever there was a little peace and quiet, Faith Morganson wondered that. The question never seemed to leave her head, always trying to leave to find the answer. But a door always barred the way.

Faith didn’t look like her mom or her aunt, both of whom had bright blond hair and blue eyes. She looked like her cousin, though-exactly alike. It was freaky, since they were only cousins-right? Faith wasn’t sure anymore.

Who knew what secrets lay beyond where Faith could reach...

I really want to see this in stores, but I always doubt my writing skills. But do you like it?

Also, whenever I'm putting an excerpt from one of my stories, I'll highlight it like that. -Points to excerpt from Magical Melody- Okay?

@ Cel: Well, that was supposed to be the first few paragraphs in the first chapter. There's more to the chapter. And I looked at your Amxplri models and I'm not sure what to say... Well, they kind of remind me of blue dogs with two tails, Shiny Mew with two tails or the Mirage Pokémon with different faces. No offense; I think they're good.

Also, I have this in my next chapter, but I probably won't be posting it for awhile, so I'm just going to also put it here:

I have a...request. Don’t take it like a contest. Basically, it’s to draw any of my characters from my stories. Any of them, but not in a really messy and bad way. It could just be the face or all of the character. Remember, it’s not a contest. When you’re done, you could just let me know and please send the link. I don’t want to spend forever looking for it.

So for all of you artists out there, here's something to do!

@ EC: Hmmm....

@ Cel: The guy's tails look longer, are they supposed to be? Just curious, I forget the exact explanation.

Yeah, they're vaguely like Mew... I wasn't intending for them to look like shiny Mew, though, I made them blue because that's my favorite color. XD

...Mirage Pokemon? What do you mean? o.o?

And I might have taken you up on that request, but my artistic skills suck. As you may have been able to tell from my pictures... ^_^;

I was trying to make them different from any Pokemon, while still having the "small and cute" look... I'm not sure if I succeeded. XP For reference, they're about 3 to 4 feet tall when fully grown.

EDIT: @ DL: Yeah, the guys are supposed to have tails twice as long as the females. So they can keep track of their kids or something...

Cel, the Mirage Pokémon are also known as the Sinnoh trio, aka Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf. I just refer to them as the Mirage Pokémon because faster than say Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf over and over again.

Oh, the Lake Trio. I've never heard of them referred to that way... When I hear "Mirage Pokemon" I think of that TV special with the holographic Mew and Mewtwo. ^^;

Hm, do the Lake Trio really look that catlike? I thought they looked more humanoid, although chibified...

EDIT: @ Attila: Some are, such as the life & death one and the time & space one. But other than that, they don't seem too cliche.

I thought the Mirage Pokemon were like the ones in PMD or whatever. O.o;

@ Attila: No.

I have another excerpt, but it's not for Magical Melody. You know how I was talking about those two Chinese twins, Fenghuang and Long Liang? No? Well, just as a headsup, Fenghuang is the name of the Chinese phoenix and Long is "dragon" in Chinese. They're kind of counterparts in China and represent the emperor (dragon) and empress (phoenix).

Here's the excerpt:

Long froze as the rifle was pointed at him. Oh gosh, why couldn’t I have waited for Fenghuang?

The man’s grip tightened. “Where’s your sister?”

“I don’t know!”

“Lies! Tell me!” The trigger was that close to pushing a bullet out.

Long knew he couldn’t stall anymore. He shut his mouth.

The man got ready to push the trigger.

“Long!” A sudden blur shoved him out of the way. It also startled the man. The rifle went up and the trigger was pressed. Scared, he ran off like the scaredy-cat he was.

The bullet shot harmlessly up into the air, but the vibration upset the pile of snow resting on the tree’s appendages. It collapsed on the once-blur, but not before Long got a chance to who they were-or rather, who she was.

“Fenghuang!”

What do you think?
