MaryileeHas anyone else had problems even getting posts to open on Fanlib? And in some, my badge disappeared. |
|
DiehardJavaJunkie14I have. And I can't delete my submissions that were finalists in a contest/winners in a contest. |
|
monstermoofieI tried to end submissions to me 'From TEars to Laughter' contest but it wouldn't let me edit. Was going to go ahead and close it so we could vote. Can't do it. :( |
|
live2tivoDid anyone else happen to go through and save their feedback? I'm a terrible review whore, and I wanted to make sure I still had y'all's wonderful reviews (esp. Java's review of my N3 fic, which, btw, is probably the nicest feedback I've ever gotten...thanks) I'm really going to miss FL. ffnet is too boring appearance wise. |
|
MaryileeHow did you save it? |
|
live2tivoI just copy and pasted it into a word doc. Just make sure that you click "more" on longer reviews before you copy/paste. |
|
monstermoofieA really easy way, for firefox users, would be to open everything up (more, replies, etc.) and use Scrapbook to save. |
|
live2tivoThat's awesome. I had never heard of Scrapbook, but I just installed it, and it works wonderfully. Thank you for turning me on to it. |
|
epalladinoHi, One question about FFN forums. Can you only reply to the mods first post. Or can anyone add a post. If you can do more than reply to the first post, I can't see the link. Beth (P.S. I really do need to save my comments from FanLib. A lot were really good) | #10 Jul 23rd 2008, 9:52pm

live2tivoAnyone can add a thread or reply to anyone else's post. I'm not sure where the button is exactly, because I'm not looking at that screen right now, though. As for saving feedback, Scrapbook really is quite quick and wonderful, if you have FireFox. | #11 Jul 23rd 2008, 9:59pm

|
monstermoofieLol yep my sentiments exactly! Love my scrapbook! :D Oh and using 'reply' to any of the posts from the top one on down will just place your message at the bottom I believe. :) | #12 Jul 23rd 2008, 10:12pm . Edited Jul 23rd 2008, 10:13pm

Flash ForewardI'm kind of annoyed right now...I can't delete any submissions that were finalists in contests (and I've got quite a few) unless the contest gets deleted first (thanks for deleting yours, Java!). Is there any chance that anyone who's hosted a contest...could they be deleted? (and, yes, I did have them removed from the contests, but they're still not deleting). | #13 Jul 24th 2008, 10:10am . MaryileeI just deleted my contests. But why do you need to delete your submissions? | #14 Jul 24th 2008, 10:14am

Flash ForewardI have no idea, it just sends me to the error page if I try to delete anything that was a finalist/winner in a contest *shrugs* Also: thanks, Maryilee :D | #15 Jul 24th 2008, 10:19am . Edited Jul 24th 2008, 10:19am

CSIBeautyThanks, Maryilee! I've been on FFN for a while, I just always liked spending my time on Fanlib. :P | #20 Jul 24th 2008, 12:42pm

live2tivoSame here. I've been on ffnet for seven years total under a couple different accounts. I'll admit, I like the layout of the ffnet archive much better than the one at FanLib, but I like the FL forums better. | #21 Jul 24th 2008, 1:32pm

MaryileeHi, One question about FFN forums. Can you only reply to the mods first post. Or can anyone add a post. If you can do more than reply to the first post, I can't see the link. Hi Beth. Anyone can start a thread. There is a new thread or topic button up there somewhere. Also, to edit a post, you go down the lower right part of your post and click where it says 'mod'. In there is an edit command. HTH! | #22 Jul 24th 2008, 1:36pm

ModerndaydrifterDo we need to delete our submissions as well as the contests or does it matter? I would think if we downloaded the zip file than our submissions can be left alone.... | #24 Jul 24th 2008, 4:22pm
|
|
epalladinoI'm assuming that the powers-that-be at what is left of FanLib will delete all the content once it is ended. If we were supposed to delete things, they would have told us already. In case you haven't noticed I started a place for us to put our Fandom 411s if we wrote one. It would be a pity for all that good information to go when the FanLib blog is deleted. MaryileeOkay, so I just got home and tried to go to myfandoms. I can get to the frontpage, but that's it, and then I get an error. I tried on two browsers. Did our mass sign up over there crash their servers or something? | #29 Jul 24th 2008, 5:52pm

MaryileeI think myfandoms is working better today. The site admin. posted that they had technical difficulties but that they were able to fix it. I was there this morning and everything was moving along quite quickly. :-) I still can't see what my profile page really looks like. I've changed the background pic several times but I still get either the Millenium Park Cloud Gate pic I intially put up, or a tiled pic of Kyle Chandler (not that that's a bad thing! lol) I tried putting my frog pic, where it's in the green muck as the background but I don't see it. Could just be me though. That happened yesterday too. I do like their blog feature there. The forums are pretty sad. Very slow, nobody really talking to each other. And I'm having a heck of a time figuring out how to read stuff! It seems to require several clicks. I'm sure I'll get used to it all shortly. | #33 Jul 25th 2008, 8:51am

epalladinoOur comments on FanLib. That Zip file that you have on your profile page where you can download all of your submissions. That file now includes all of your comments (including your replies). I received an email from FanLib that said something about this. So, I downloaded that Zipfile again and Lo! and Behold! there are all of the comments for each submission. It was worth downloading that file again just to get the comments. I really love how poor FanLib is trying to ease the blow. They could have just taken the site down and left up members swinging. I've had that happen before on other sites. Yesterday, I had some private correspondence with davidbw of FanLib. We're planning on keeping in touch. He could not go into details, but, believe me, he's just as devasated as the rest of us with the demise of FanLib. It was just a nice added touch that FanLib has now made our comments available to use. I know that a lot of people have been trying to copy them. I post some messages to the FanLib forums. If any of you know of others who'd like to know that they can download their comments, please let them know. Beth | #34 Jul 25th 2008, 12:14pm

epalladinoYes, myfandoms is working better today. I've been posting up, a little at a time, my 55 chapters to "Hellboys' Family". The one thing I don't like about the way myfandom displays stories is that if your story or chapter is more than one page, you have to wade though the disclaimer, summary, etc. every time you turn a page. That seems weird to me. It interrupts the flow of the story. Beth | #35 Jul 25th 2008, 1:33pm

KarraCazYoh! I found you again! Been searching since yesterday. How do I get this forum from the home page? Or somewhere recognisable here. Never been on the forums here before! Sigh. KarraCazI've been holding off deleting my subs on Fanlib. I don't know ... it seems like a betrayal to take everything down. Is everyone going there for the last day? Someone has suggested changing the avatar to a black background with Farewell Fanlib...the way we did with the birthday candles and the eyes. A nice last touch.... | #37 Jul 28th 2008, 1:41am

monstermoofieI'm thinking if I end up putting any more stories on Myfandoms I'm going to just simply write 'Chapter 1, 2, etc.' into the body of the story and post it whole. I rarely post WIP's so it shouldn't really be a problem from that aspect. | #38 Jul 28th 2008, 12:30pm

MaryileeI'm thinking if I end up putting any more stories on Myfandoms I'm going to just simply write 'Chapter 1, 2, etc.' into the body of the story and post it whole. I rarely post WIP's so it shouldn't really be a problem from that aspect. I did that with EC, and it worked fine, however, I think it's harder for readers because instead of only four or five pages at the top to click through, there were over thirty. It was kind of overwhelming, so I deleted it. I have been uploading EC there the chapter way, and it's not as difficult as it seemed at first. It's akin to posting on LJ only it's more organized than LJ. I actually found that just copying and pasting from Fanlib's printer version was the easiest way. The formatting all remained and even pics that were in the story came with it. | #39 Jul 28th 2008, 1:36pm

monstermoofieThat 'clicking through four or five pages' per chapter is what I hate. Hopefully they'll try to get the print feature to show a whole story. I can aleady do that on my web page though and it looks much nicer. | #40 Jul 28th 2008, 1:57pm

MaryileeOn another subject... Did anyone get a message from Fanlib about a certificate? They want my home mailing address... I am suspicious I did also and I'm fine with it. Naomi is the one I dealt with when I won the Writer's Sweepstakes thing. She seemed to handle prizes. I think she also answered my questions regarding my tshirt last year. | #42 Jul 29th 2008, 3:42pm

ModerndaydrifterI sent them my home address too. Back when the site first started I had a featured story and they sent me a t-shirt, so it's legitimate. Go ahead and send it to them. | #43 Jul 29th 2008, 5:34pm

KarraCazI got my certificate today. It was a really nice gesture. Fanlib didn't have to do that at all. | #44 Aug 04th 2008, 7:33am

KarraCazI'm having trouble posting on myfandoms.com. Although the edit version is intact when I look at the story on the front page, the middle bit is missing. I've deleted and resubmitted but it's still the same. | #45 Aug 04th 2008, 7:36am

epalladinoI didn't know about the certificate until I got back from vacation on Sunday evening. However, FanLib got in touch with me just before they closed down and my certificate is in the mail. I also got the $25 dollar gift certificate for Amazon and was able to apply it to a collection of pre-ordered "Hellboy" books and comics that hadn't shipped yet. I managed to turn a $43 order to an $18 one. It was very nice of FanLib to make these gestures. I have had some private emails with Davidbw and he couldn't go into too much detail; but I got the impression that 'Team FanLib' is just as upset about all of this as we are. Unfortunately, the world of for-profit business can be very ruthless regardless of what your intentions are. Beth | #46 Aug 05th 2008, 8:17am . Edited Aug 05th 2008, 8:19am

Jo Z. PierceI just got a certificate too... and a gift certificate. I think it was very nice, and very sweet. But I think a few very active people who didn't get one were a bit upset/hurt. And I don't blame them. | #47 Aug 05th 2008, 8:23am
|

MaryileeDid the people who didn't get one delete their account before the notification? I know some very active people did delete kind of early and I'm wondering if Fanlib had no way to contact them? Just a thought and I'm probably wrong about that. Does it seem like the top 50 got them? Anyway, I thought it was a very nice gesture too. They certainly didn't have to do anything at all. | #48 Aug 05th 2008, 8:36am

Jo Z. PierceOne person (can't remember who - brain like a sieve!) posted on fanlib forums that they didn't get anything, and they were top 10. So, no. It didn't seem to work that way. Maybe it was people who were active enough to be featured on Hiatus, or something else? And yes. It was very nice. And no, they didn't have to do anything. And I am relieved to hear that admin was just as upset, and it's the no-face corporate fat cats who did it, not friendly Admin. | #49 Aug 05th 2008, 8:39am

DiehardJavaJunkie14I didn't take the certificate because I would prefer to keep the fanfiction thing on the downlow... I wanted to, but I know the people who get the mail from the mailbox are snoops! Haha. | #50 Aug 05th 2008, 11:56am
