MaryileeTopic: FanNation--Now open for business!
We are refugees no more! :-) FanNation is now open and I hope all of you Fanlib refugees and anyone else who happens to be lurking, will come check it out and sign up. The archive is similiar to this one, but has some unique features that help foster a sense of community and the forum is awesome. If you liked the Fanlib forum, you will love this one. Enough talk here's the url. You will have to copy and paste. http://fannation.shades-of-moonlight.com/archive/ |

MrBillyDHello Maryilee: I've just enrolled as a member in Fan Nation. I'm not sure when I'll begin posting my stories there. Right now I'm in the middle of trying to complete one story, that's been stalled by writer's block, for more than a year. Once it's completed I'll post it here first, in fanfiction .net, which will continue to be my personal base. Once that's done, I'll add it to the rest of my stories in fan nation. I wish you, and all of us well in this new undertaking. |

MrBillyDI just checked out the Fan Nation site, that I enrolled in on Saturday. My name is no longer there. I tried to re-enroll, but was told that my pen name was already in use. I don't know what to do next. I think I'll just keep all my stories here on Fanfiction .net, where I understand how things work. I wish you well with your new website. |

Ms KittenI see you there just fine, MrBillyD: http://fannation.shades-of-moonlight.com/archive/viewuser.php?uid=123 Are you sure you didn't just overlook it in the list? It's currently the fourth name in the third column in the Authors list. |

MrBillyDHello Ms Kitten: I was able to re-enroll on Tuesday, when I posted copies of two stories, that are already posted here on Fanfiction .net. I plan to continue posting copies of all my stores, except for ones that are incomplete, or that I find in someway unsatisfying. Thank you for showing your concern. |

MrBillyDHello again Ms Kitten: I tried to log onto the fan nation forum, but was told that I'd used to wrong penname. I know for a fact that I used the correct one. That means I'll have to use this forum, about a certain question I have, about editing my stories, before they are posted. The editing box is too compact, so I can not center the titles or chapter headings. I also have some stories in which song lyrics appear, and should also be centered, but I can not do that either. Could you please tell me what I should do about this? I also wonder about some of your "warnings". You want me to post "Major Character Death." In some of my stories that would be giving away the plot, which is something no writer wants to do. Also, most of my stories are based on Buffy: the Vampire Slayer, so anyone who knows anything about the show, is already warned. Another one of your warnings is about "Extreme Religious Views". What do you consider "extreme"? Some people go into a rage, if the word "God" appears. I have a few stories in which religious views are expressed. They are expressions of traditional Protestant Christian teachings. Are traditional religious teachings considered "Extreme"? |

Ms KittenAs I have pointed out on the front page of FanNation, you have to sign up for the archive and forum separately. It's unfortunate, but there you have it. The reason is that the archive and the forum belong to two different databases, so I couldn't merge them. It's completely my fault, but there's nothing I can do at this point to fix it. Maybe sometime in the future I can learn a way to do it... Centering text will have to be done with html-tags. I tried posting an example here, but the forum here won't let me. It might seem unfair that you have to "reveal" plot to your readers through warnings, but death alongside other things listed as warnings is a serious matter and not all people feel comfortable reading about it. And while a death may be canon, so anyone knowing the show will know what to expect, this is a cross-fandom archive and you will most likely get several readers who may not have seen a single episode. Also, if you say that the death is canon, and anyone watching the show will expecting it, why does it matter that you reveal a death is coming to someone unfamiliar with the show? You don't have to specify who will die, just that your story contains a major or minor character death, so people are prepared for that fact. I doesn't say "Extreme Religious View", but "Strong Religious View". Which doesn't apply if you're merely mentioning God or Allah or whatever in passing. However if you write a story where you portray a strong religious conviction either in a specific character or in the plot in general it doesn't hurt to use the warning. (It can be highly religious rituals, teachings, religious discussions, a character expressing their religious conviction, etc.) "Strong Religious View" is not meant as a bad thing, but religion is personal. It doesn't take much to rally someone, as you've pointed out yourself. Be the judge of it yourself, but it's better that you use a warning for something minor than to not use the warning for something major. | #7 Sep 11th 2008, 11:02am . MrBillyDHello Ms Kitten: I don't mean to be a pain, but I find computers and the internet very confusing. These days, they teach children everything about computers in school, but I am 63 years old, and people my age have to figure things out on our own. I don't mind that. The brain is not a muscle, but it should be exercised regularly anyway; and that's what dealing with computers and the internet is doing for me. I'm really not sure how to use html-tags, but I'll see if I can figure something out. Until then I'll still post copies of my fanfiction .net stories, with everything flush against the left margin. Thank you for your help. |
