Topic: The Challenges (No Post)
Well, what's a forum without a little organization? This will be used as an easy access to the list of challenges and the date they were given. It was getting a little cluttered in the other thread, so I decided to make this one.

!!PLEASE DO NOT POST IN THIS THREAD!!

You can discuss the challenges and ask questions in the other thread. If you post here, I will only inevitably be forced to play evil dictator and delete your post. And yes, I have the power to do that, bwahaha.

!!!!CHALLENGE!!!! Dec. 27th, 2005

Okay, so I decided to give you all a late Christmas present and get the challenge out now. :) There's no rush, no time limit, not any limits really. Since this is the first challenge, we'll make it a fairly simple one (where guidelines are concerned. Plot wise could be a different story.) This one has been submitted by Mellaithwen. Thanks for the lovely idea!

So here it is:

Plot Idea: What if, in the Roosevelt Asylum, Dean was the one who was first "possessed" by Dr. Ellicott?

Guidelines: None really. This is pretty straight forward. It can be as long as you want, whatever rating you want, and can include anything you want to include.

If you haven't seen the episode, I'm very sorry! The next challenge won't be so episode based, I promise.

PLEASE let me know if you plan on writing for this challenge. I'll be adding all the answers into a C2 community for easy access. And I'm even planning on writing a little something for this challenge as well.

Good luck and happy writing!

!!!CHALLENGE!!! Jan. 7th, 2006

Okay, so it's been more than a week so I decided to give you guys another challenge, since some of you have been asking for one. :) I hope you guys try to take it on, and get your friends to try to take it on! I've gotten a lot of suggestions, so if you don't see yours up here right away, just hang on, I'm getting to it. :)

This one was suggested by twilite92.

"Sam and Dean investigate all kinds of supernatural things. But not everything is

caused by monsters and ghosts. What happens when the current case turns out to

be more normal then paranormal?

No restrictions or requirements.

Anyone up for the challenge?"

So there it is. Now get writing you slackers! ;)

!!!!!CHALLENGE!!!!! Jan. 14, 2006

As promised, here's another challenge for all you lovely people to try out. This one was suggested by LittleWing.

"What if the boys took a day off? What would they do?"

-LittleWing

There are no restrictions, no requirements. Try to spice it up, try different genres, comedy, horror, romance (heaven forbid), anything. They're called challenges for a reason. :) Try to challenge yourself.

!!!!CHALLENGE!!!! Jan. 21, 2006

It's Saturday, so you guys get another challenge. I've been wanting to make one up for a while, but I was trying to think of what I could do to make this different from the other challenges. I decided on making it an item challenge, which basically means that I'm going to give you an item and you have to somehow work it into your story. It could be the center of your story, it could just show up, whatever.

So, here's the item challenge:

Write a story that involves a mask.

Restrictions: There are none. Just make sure that your story involves a mask somehow. And don't ask me what kind of mask, because when you're a writer, a mask could be anything. A real mask, a metaphoric mask, an evil floating mask, whatever. Just make sure that the mask is in your story, and more than just a simple mention of a mask sitting on a desk. :)

So get to it!

***SPOILERS for the upcoming episode, The Benders, in this challenge***

Here is the original challenge, sent in by TheMissingWinchester:

"Hi P.L.,

I'm working on a fic based on the spoilers for the episode The Benders... and I

was hoping you'd consider making it a challenge for the forum... I think it

would be really interesting to see what people come up with before the episode

actually airs.

Here's the part of the spoiler in question. I am basing my fic on exactly why

Dean left Sam alone at the bar and where he was for so long, ending with his

reaction to returning to find Sammy gone.

Sam is missing, and Dean is out of his mind with worry.

It seems Dean left Sam at a roadhouse alone for awhile, and when he got back

Sams nowhere to be found. The boys are searching for a monster that makes a loud

whining noise (probably introduced in the teaser), so Dean thinks the monster

took Sam. He gets belligerent with a bouncer who simply says the bars closed,

searches the parking lot frantically, runs out on an empty highway, looks up and

down the road forlornly, and begins to utterly panic. Somethings taken his baby

brother! However, he spots a traffic camera on a nearby telephone pole and

realizes there might be a witness to the event.

I really hope you like this part of the spoiler as much as I do and can see the

wonderful opportunity we have for some wonderful responses to what would keep

Dean away long enough for Sammy to *disappear*

-TheMissingWinchester"

---------

In simple terms:

Dean leaves Sam at a roadhouse. When he comes back, Sam is gone. Come up with your own story for what really happened.

You can use the teaser if you want, witht he camera and everything, or you can just start off with Dean realizing Sam isn't where he left him.

!!!!!!CHALLENGE!!!!!! Feb. 12, 2006

This week's challenge was submitted by Roony. :) Sorry it's so late!

"hey, got a challenge idea:

The 'Different Point-Of-View' story. This type of story has been done in other

TV shows too. This is where the main characters tell roughly the same story,

but the details very based on who's telling the story. It's often used for

humor (there was an X-files episode that pulled this off very well)

ex: say we have a brother and sister trying to explain to their mom how a vase

was broken. Both agree that the sister told the brother to put down the vase

before the brother broke the vase. But we still hear two different (and

exaggerated) stories:

Brother: "She screamed, 'PUT THAT VASE BACK RIGHT NOW OR I'LL THROW YOU TO THE

HOUNDS OF HELL!' and I was so terrified, I guess my palms got sweaty and I

dropped it."

Sister: "I told him 'Please, put down the vase or you might break it.' But he

just glared at me with this evil look. Then he threw it onto the floor!"

Wonder how that would turn out with Sam and Dean telling different stories...

Sound like a good challenge?

-Roony"

Simple terms:

1. It's a story told from the different point of views of the characters, each of them telling about the same event, but each of them seeing it differently.

2. It can be 1st, 2nd, or 3rd person, it doesn't matter.

Have fun with this one. I want to see some awesome fics come out of this challenge. Personally, this one has been my favorite idea yet. I've been saving it for this week because...well...I'm selfish and it's my birthday and I wanted some good fics, lol. So get out there and write them!

!!!!!CHALLENGE!!!!! Feb. 20, 2006

Sorry for the bit of a wait. Had a term paper to write, lol. Anyway, here's this week's challenge:

*THERE ARE SPOILERS FOR NIGHTMARE INVOLVED WITH THIS CHALLENGE*

This challenge was suggested by Labellefemmeecrivain:

"I have a challenge idea in response to the episode "Nightmare". What would it be

like if Sam and Dean had Max's childhood? Please respond and tell me what you

think about this one. I think it would be interesting to see how differently

they might have turned out."

I think there could be some fun stories to come out of this one. I hope people take up the challenge.

!!!!!!CHALLENGE!!!!!! 3-4-2006

So, I'm totally gonna steal this challenge idea from one that I read somewhere else. But for the life of me, I can't remember where I read it, so I can't credit it. That being said, this is not my idea, but I thought it was such a great one that I wanted to see what people would come up with. I have high expectations for this one, lol. No pressure! Just give me lovely stories!! ;)

Challenge:

What exactly would make Dean stop hunting?

More explanation:

We all know that Sam's plan is to kill the ceiling demon and then get on with a normal life and stop hunting. But Dean doesn't seem to want to stop. It's almost like he can't. So what would actually get him to stop?

Go wild with this! :)

!!!!!!CHALLENGE!!!!!! 3-18-2006

Okay, so this challenge is entitled the "dumb monster" challenge. Sam and Dean fight all sort of supernatural beings and monsters, including the stupid ones.

This was inspired by an interview I read where JP said something about giving an idea to Kripke where they fight Jack Frost. He called it dumb (though I thought Krikpe could probably come up with something awesome) but it got me thinking what other dumb monsters were out there for the brothers to fight.

So here's where you come in. Pick a dumb monster, preferably something we know but it doesn't have to be, you can make up your own, and write a story about its encounter with the Winchester brothers (and Pappa Winchester if you wish.) It can be silly, serious, angsty, fluffy, whatever. Just as long as it includes a dumb monster.

Need some examples?

-Jack Frost (thank you JP, lol!)

-The Easter Bunny

-Cupid

-The Tooth Fairy

-One Eyed One Horned Flying Purple People Eater (bwahaha!)

-The Sandman (though this could probably be really scary and its not really dumb)

-Herbie (and other assorted talking cars) ;)

-Santa Claus

-etc.

Remember, these challenge responses can be as short or as long as you want them. I hope to see some really funy, scary, angsty, fluffy, etc stories for this challenge!

!!!!!!CHALLENGE!!!!!! 4-1-2006

This challenge was suggested by M.Marinov and pheebs1. :)

The plotline:

Sam and/or Dean get day jobs.

Meant to be humorous, but it doesn't have to be. Sam's made comments before about the credit card scams and Dean's hustling skills. He's made the suggestion that they can get day jobs, so what if they really do? What would it be and how would they react? Office jobs? Store clerks? The brothers fight many things with ease, but how will they handle a paper jam?

Again, this is meant to be funny, but it doesn't have to be. It can be angst, horror, drama, future, past, death, slash, whatever. These challenges are meant to inspire stories, nothing else. :)

!!!!!CHALLENGE!!!! 4-15-2006

This challenge is dedicated to the elusive third character, The Impala.

A car is just an inanimate object right? So then why is the Impala getting almost as much hype as the brothers? Because it freaking rocks! The show just wouldn't be the same without it. And neither would our boys.

So the challenge this week is:

Metallicar saves the day!

That's right, you heard me. The Impala has such a strong hold on everyone's hearts that it's time to give it some spotlight. Sam and Dean get into all kinds of trouble. What would happen if the Impala was their only way out?

You can take this as literally as you'd like. You can make the Impala animated, you can put its spirit in a human body, you can make the boys use the Impala as a weapon, I don't care. Just so long as the Impala is used as a way out of a tough situation.

Rock on, Metallicar. We love you.

!!!!!!!CHALLENGE!!!!!! 4-29-2006

This challenge was submitted by LittleWing.

In a recent episode, Dean makes a joke about winning the lottery. Well what if he really did?

So the challenge would be what if the Winchesters won the lotto by some freak chance or getting paid with a winning ticket for saving someone or find one on the ground just after someone dropped it. Thought that it would be an interesting challege and one that could be either serious or just seriously funny.

Well there it is. No rules or restrictions on this one. -LittleWing

What if the Winchesters won the lottery? How did they get the ticket? What would they do? How would they react? The possibilities are endless. It can be any genre, any length. No restrictions. Have fun!

!!!!!CHALLENGE!!!! -5/13/2006

It's time to celebrate all those minor characters we've come to love but don't see enough of!

Minor Character Appreciation Challenge

This challenge is simple. Writer a story where one of Supernatural's many minor characters isn't so minor anymore. They play a big role, or maybe they're even the main character? Gasp! You don't even have to write about Dean or Sam (is that possible?). As long as you have a minor character playing a big role, you've answered the challenge.

Need some ideas? Let's look at some of the minor characters:

Pastor Jim

Caleb

Bobby

Missouri

Layla

Meg

That weird demon guy

Jess

Mary

John's friend Joshua (the one who told Sam about LeGrange)

LeGrange

That girl from the Wendigo episode

That weird cop from the Pilot

You choose! It could be ANY of the minor characters. No length requirements, no story requirements, just make sure that a minor character has a major role. Happy writing!

!!!!!CHALLENGE!!!!! -5/27/2006

Another "what if" challenge. For two years, Sam went to college and didn't speak a word to his family.

What if Sam never left for college?

How would the Winchesters' lives be different? What keeps Sam from leaving? How will John and Sam not kill each other? There are so many possibilities. Have fun with this challenge. Be as angsty or as comical as you want. It can be any length and any genre.

!!!!!!!!CHALLENGE!!!!!!!!! -6/10/2006

This challenge was suggested by jmm0001.

Dude, where's my car?

The Impala goes missing. How will Sam and Dean cope with their entire lives, fake ID's, clothes, weapons, etc., in the car. And how will they get it back?

The suggestion was for all of the stories to start with the line, "Dude, where's my car?" But that's totally up to you. If you'd like to start your response with that line, feel free to do so. If not, just go with whatever you want to do with it.

No restrictions. Go wild with this.

Missing Scenes Challenge

We all love the show, or we wouldn't be here. But sometimes, there are just some scenes that make you wonder why in the world they would be left out. This challenge is dedicated to those scenes.

Want some suggestions? Here are some from a few of the episodes, but remember, you response does not have to be limited to these:

Pilot

-Why did Dean come back for Sam in the fire?

-How did Dean get to the house so fast to stop Constance from violating Sam? (hehe)

Wendigo

-What happened during the night they stayed out in the woods?

-What was going on with Dean and what's-her-face before Sam and that weird kid showed up to save them?

-What happened after they left?

Asylum

-Sam's thoughts after Ellicott messed with his head and before Dean got there.

-The aftermath, dealing with wounds, etc.

Scarecrow

-Sam stealing a car.

Faith

-The road trip from the motel to Nebraska to see LeGrange after Dean is hurt.

-Sam's thoughts when he's trying to escape the basement to save Dean.

The Benders

-Um...Sam rescuing Dean? (I'm upset this scene wasn't in there, lol)

Shadow

-Sam and Dean coming back to the motel after Meg took her swan dive.

-Sam and Dean after John leaves again.

Hell House

-Choose your prank. ;)

Dead Man's Blood

-Sam and John while waiting for Kate to fall for the bait (Dean).

Devil's Trap

-Sam getting his family into the car at the end.

-Them getting to the cabin in the first place.

Remember, your choices aren't limited to these. There are a ton of missing scenes, some of which I can't even think of because I don't remember the early episodes all that well.

Restrictions: This isn't really important right now, but I'm restricting this challenge to strictly Season One. We'll probably issue this challenge again after Season Two. :-D So just ignore this for right now. This is for anyone who comes back to do the older challenges.

Lemme see those missing scenes!

!!!!!!!!CHALLENGE!!!!!!!!! 7-8-2006

The Scars Challenge

Sam and Dean fight all sorts of baddies and get knocked around an awful lot. So I find it very hard to believe that their bodies are as FLAWLESS as the show makes them out to be. I'm sure they both have their scars.

So here's the challenge:

Sam and Dean reminisce about past hunts while examining their scars.

You can do what you want with this. It doesn't have to be as straightforward as the challenge says. Throw in your own little twists. Maybe Sam or Dean has a scar that the other doesn't remember? Or maybe a new wound reminds them of a scar from a previous battle? Or maybe one of them has a scar that neither of them remember?

Have fun with this!

!!!!!!!!CHALLENGE!!!!!!!! 9/30/2006

That's right, the challenges are back! We'll start out with something easy, open for interpretation.

The challenge this week: Secrets.

Do what you want with just that one word. This show is all about the secrets. So it's only natural that the Winchesters have secrets they keep even from each other. What are some of those secrets? What happens when people find out? DO people find out? Whatever you like.

There's a lot of possibilities with this one. So you could write more than one story for this challenge. (You can do that anyway, but I think it's really easy to do that with this one.)

So go! Write me good fic!

!!!!!!!!CHALLENGE!!!!!!!! 10/14/2006

Time for a new challenge!

This week's challenge: Sam and Dean and movies.

Movie quotes pop up all the time on the show. So we're going to play around with those this week. The challenge will be Sam and Dean watching a movie. You can do whatever you want with that. Maybe they force each other to watch their favorite movies. Maybe a teenaged Dean sneaks a teenaged Sam into see a rated R movie. Maybe they're just taking a break from hunting to go see a movie. Or maybe they go to a movie theater to do a little hunting. Whatever you'd like! The only thing is, there has to be a movie involved.

Have fun!
