Bad MumTopic: Fanfic Treasure Hunt
As suggested by Anachronistic Anglophile in the "official challenges" thread. Anglophile, do you want to start us off since it's your idea? Rules C&P'd from the post there: Fanfic Treasure Hunt A person finds a story with a remarkable trait (like Ginny shaving her head, Snape doing the Irish Jig...) and they post a few pertinent facts about it, without revealing: the name, the author, date posted, number of reviews. The first person to find the story in question, or else another story that also fits the parameters, wins, and gets to choose a story in the same fashion. Blatant cheating would be allowed, in the respect that if you're dead set on winning, you can WRITE a story that fits the parameters. A few criteria for the selection of stories: ~Drabbles, one-shots, and longer stories are acceptable for the selected story--though if it's a longer story, the remarkable trait should be obvious in the first chapter. ~It's better not to choose a story that's on your favorites list, because then it's too easy. ~It's better, especially considering that this is the Reviews Lounge, to choose a story that is under-reviewed, but has not been featured as having been 'under reviewed'. ~It really shouldn't be one of your own stories that you propose. Or that of someone else on this forum. This game isn't for self-plugging; I like to think of this as more of a charitable effort. ~It's better, in the list of hints, not to include something that is blatantly stated in the summary of the story. ~List the characters that the story (or first chapter), not necessarily how the author listed them but how you would list them. This means, not limited to one or two characters. ~The story HAS TO EXIST SOMEWHERE ON FANFICTION.NET. You can't just make up random parameters and have everyone struggling to find a story that fits when, in fact, it does not exist. To guard against this, if no one can find the story and has given up, the author must be able to show it. ~You can provide a quote or two from the story if you want. Not more than two. Sample first post: Story #1 Main characters: Severus Snape, Harry Potter, Ginny Weasley Facts: a)Snape is a ghost, b)Post-DH, c)he haunts Harry, d)he is somehow (indirectly) responsible for the names of Harry's kids. Quote: "'My life is a giant cosmic joke,' Harry observed." Sample Response: Is that The Wendell That Wasn't by opalish? (link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4396574/1/The_Wendell_That_Wasnt) Sample Response: Yes! It was! Now it's your turn to choose a story! Sample Response: Okay, here. Story #2 Main characters: Seamus Finnegan, Marauder's Map Facts: a)It's a chapter story, b)Padfoot, Prongs et al spew their typical types of insults, c)'Reviliso' is a spell used. Quote: "Seamus was very confused. What the heck is this thing?" Sample Response: Aw, I give up. Sample Response: Me too. So instead I wrote one based on the prompt. It's called, "Balderdash" (inserts link) Sample Response: The story is called 'The Power of the Map', and it's by oHmYgOdNoWaY. (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5011109/1/The_Power_of_the_Map) Sorry that was a bum one, everyone, but "Balderdash" was really great. Basically, the contest is open until someone either finds the story in question, one that fits the parameters, or writes one to fit the parameters. Extra rule: Please make the effort to review any fics you read while playing this game. It seems only fair! | #1 Jul 20th, 12:19am . Edited Jul 20th, 2:11pm

Wendy BruneI'm definitely game! |
Anachronistic AnglophileStory #1 Main characters: Hermione Granger, Dumbledore, McGonagall Facts: a)Dumbledore's portrait is still in charge of the war against Voldemort b)Hermione is the "last surviving member of D.A., the order, and solider against the Dark Lord". c)It's a timeturner fic, and Hermione goes back to Tom Riddle's time. Quote: "I was seated on a white sofa that looked like a roman bed or a futon." Chapter Fic, Oneshot, Drabble: Chapter Fic | #3 Jul 20th, 9:27am . Edited Jul 20th, 9:29am

Wendy BruneAfter much searching, is it Plan B ? (I have too much time on my hands...) |
Anachronistic AnglophileYes! Excellent job! Your turn to choose. |
The Awkward TurtleThis seems mega awesome. Kudos to Alex! :D |
Wendy BruneOh boy! Sorry it took so long, it was really hard to pick a good one.. Story #2 Main Characters: Alice Longbottom, Callidora Longbottom Facts: a.) Alice is not yet with Frank b.) Callidora and Alice share a firewhiskey c.) James Potter (I) and his family are present. Quote: "If you ask me it looks like that hair-swishing airhead over there ought to rub less orange paint onto her face and spend a little more time looking in the vague direction of books." I'm choosing not to say how long it is! |
Anachronistic AnglophileI'm starting my search. May I add one extra rule? I'd like everyone who participates to, in their searches etc., to review any stories deserving of reviews, particularly the ones that are the 'treasures'. So, in other words, if you have not reviewed 'Plan B' yet, it would be a nice gesture to the writer. And one other suggestion: whomever chooses the story should review the story and provide a link to this page. Of course, since fanfiction has those stupid spam filters, I reduced it to a tinyurl, and changed the . to (dot) and / to (slash) "Hi, I enjoyed your story. In fact, I used it for a forum game at The Reviews Lounge, called 'Fanfic Treasure Hunt'. http(colon slash slash)tinyurl(dot)com(slash)mu9qmc Thanks, and feel free to join in the game if you like! Keep writing!" | #8 Jul 20th, 2:00pm . Edited Jul 20th, 2:18pm

Bad MumAdding that rule to the original post - good idea! |
Anachronistic Anglophilehttp://www.fanfiction.net/s/5213826/1/A_Party_at_the_Longbottoms It isn't this, is it? By LinnyLoo? I think it is. What a find! Great story. | #10 Jul 20th, 2:24pm . Edited by Bad Mum, Jul 20th, 2:47pm
Bad MumEdited to fix link. What a gorgeous little story. I added it to the C2. |
Wendy BruneYup! You are correct! I hope it wasn't too easy - I found this story through a convoluted series of clicks. After posting it on here, I realized that if you searched for Alice L. it popped up on the first page! I also like the reviewing idea. I haven't reviewed yet, only because I found it while reading on my iTouch. It would take an hour to write a good review on an ipod, so I added it to my "To Review..." list! ((And now that I am on my laptop, it has been reviewed!)) | #12 Jul 20th, 3:38pm . Edited Jul 20th, 3:43pm

Anachronistic AnglophileStory #3 This is a little more vague, purposefully so. Main Characters: Harry Potter, Ginny Weasley Facts: a.) It's post-HBP, b)the title is one word, c)after Harry and Ginny broke up because of Harry not wanting to have Voldemort use her against him, d)he promises "If I don't die, would you let us pick up where we left off? Quote: "Elegant, Ginny. Really elegant." |
Bad MumAck! I have decided that this is Officially Impossible. I hope someone else has more luck than me! |
Anachronistic AnglophileI suppose finding the exact quotes, after a certain amount of time, is a requirement that can be lifted. 12 hrs after the first post, if no one finds it, the reqs. get more lax. |
Anachronistic Anglophile...and it sinks to the bottom. Alas. |
Bad MumSomeone else take a shot at this please. I want to know the answer! |
respitechristopherI can't even find it by cheating... |
FirstYearI've read the quote before, but I don't think the story, a review perhaps? |
Alex the AnachronisticOkay, the answer is: Awkward, by Augery Song http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3798336/1/Awkward Okay, y'all, bless her with a review. It's a sweet little story. |
Alex the AnachronisticSomeone else choose a story, yeah? Bad Mum, perhaps? (darn darn darn I'm on the wrong account...) | #21 Jul 24th, 8:48am . Edited Jul 24th, 8:48am

PrincessPearlOh, this sounds like fun! Can I try? Main Character: Narcissa Black Facts: A) Snape is Lily's brother B) Narcissa is in love with her secret admirer C) Peter is not a Marauder Quote: “I will find happiness,” Narcissa assured him. “Life is almost infinitely flexible in that regard.” I hope it's okay I only have one main character. |
Wendy BruneI'm going to try it! *runs to search* |
Bad MumGood luck. I've failed again. |
Anachronistic AnglophileI'm still working on looking... |
Anachronistic AnglophileOh, I'm fairly certain this is it. The Point of No Return by whydoyouneedtoknow. |
PrincessPearlYes, that's exactly it! Good job, I love that story :D |
Anachronistic AnglophileI totally would have missed it except for the fact that the title caught my eye; it's a song from Phantom of the Opera. Okay, someone else should totally choose. That's the most fun part. |
Bad MumOkay, I've spent enough time looking for other people's stories and failing, that I am having a go! Main characters: Arthur and Molly Weasley Facts: Molly misses out on the news, Bill doesn't want to spend his pocket money and Percy has a trip to St. Mungo's Quote: "I know what it is. I saw it yesterday." Edit: I think this is pretty easy to find, but it's a gorgeous story. | #29 Jul 28th, 8:52am . Edited Jul 28th, 8:54am
Anachronistic AnglophileI think it's probably by fd-hp-ECluvr, but not sure which one. |
Bad MumI'm making no comment ;-) |
lyin'got it! Valentine's Gift by BrattyJedi. Extremely adorable is right. it was the pocket $ clue that made me click on it~ the summary mentioned spending ;D |
Bad MumThat's it. Isn't it lovely? Everyone please go and review it! Your turn lyin' |
lyin'Main Characters: George Weasley & Angelina Johnson Facts: a) more than one G has lost an F b) life's tense for George post-DH c) Teddy & Viki go out for ice cream Quote: “You’re looking at me like you want something.” She looks around suspiciously, as though she suspects garden gnomes or French waiters might be about to come out of the paving stones. “Like you did something.” |
-EHWIESUntwinning by k4writer02, yes? |
lyin'yup! your turn ;D |
-EHWIESAll right, let's see... Main Characters: Lily Evans & James Potter Facts: A) Lily collects stuffed animals; B) A house-elf sings ballads; C) Imperative sentences. Quote: "You always knew you would die for her. That you would risk your life for hers without blinking an eye." (Yes, yes, Lily/James, I'm very predictable.) | #37 Jul 30th, 8:26am . Edited Jul 30th, 8:29am
-EHWIES...Any guesses? I'll put up the answer tomorrow if no one gets it. |
Bad MumI've been trying, but there are so many James and Lily stories out there! Be nice and give us another clue or two! |
starcrossedvoyagerI give up. |
Bad MumMe too... |
Anachronistic AnglophileI'm really very glad to see that you guys have kept this up; I've been immersed in wrapping up one of my silly HG/SS lately on my old account (5 chapters in one week...whew...) and hence have neglected RL. I'll keep my eyes out for this, but I think I need another clue... |
-EHWIESProbably a bit hard to find, so here you are: To Love Her by Daisy Blue. (Doesn't exactly qualify as under-reviewed, but seeing as I favorite most stories I've read that are good enough to use in this, it took me forever to think of one...) Anyone else want to take a turn? |
Bad MumSince no one else has taken the bait, I'm going again. Main character: Sirius Black Regulus writes two letters that Sirius never reads; Sirius buries a ring; and Sirius calls James when he's in trouble with the Muggle police. Quote: "Madman. The insult is familiar, and Sirius remembers, in a rush, finding the McKinnons dead, and Gideon Prewett knocking him down" | #44 Aug 04th, 4:31pm . Edited Aug 04th, 4:32pm
Bad MumAnyone? |
lyin'i recognized it right away, sooooo i don't know if i should really answer, 'cause it's not exactly 'hunting' if i do that, right? & plus i've already reviewed it. so it feels a bit like cheating. ;D but as, like with Lily & James, there's a lot of Sirius stories & this one has no other character to help rule it out, maybe you should give away the category or something else as well, Katy? |
Bad MumOkay, a couple more clues: It's listed under "angst"; it has a two word title; and laughter features prominently. lyin', if no one else gets it in the next twenty-four hours or so, you can reveal it and have the next go... |
Wendy BruneHmm, I'm going to work on this one. Even if I find it though, lyin' should have the next turn! |
xoxcrescentmoonxoxIs it Counter Feat, by Lua under water? |
Bad MumDing, ding, we have a winner. Everyone go and review it - it's a good story. Your turn, crescent. |
