Topic: Tutorial Thread

Average users please don't respond to this. This will be an area that the mods can post stuff to show you how to post, expert level material.

First I will show you guys how to make an awsome profile.

Name: (Posting something like James McGuffin... Eww I never want to see that and I doubt the other mods do. This is Star Wars remember think of something more exotic, like: Rengin Vosk, or Ketria Athris.)

Age: (Instructors are given the ability to make characters above the age of fifteen, I mean if a padawan was thity five years old you wouldn't think he'd ever become a knight... So yeah that's really just so we keep peoples characters from lrooking stupid.)

Affiliation: (Sith, Jedi, maybe later we might start a Grey Jedi Order. We don't need smugglers out in deep space that will NEVER meet up with other characters and thus are hanging around waiting for a response that wont come.)

Bio/History: (give us some information occasionally there is the special character that wont tell anyone about his/her past, thus in this case it's ok not to put too much detail, just give us something to go on, if you can't say anything about history this is also a good place to describe personality. Also another biggy, we don't want to see ten million people that are looking to find their placein the galaxy that were orphaned by a cruel twist of fate, one or two ok... More? Seriously originality is essential.)

Weapon: (Ok this is a big one, padawans, and apprentices will most likely unless allowed by a mod, NOT HAVE A LIGHTSABER. Unless it's like a keepsake of their dead relativese, then yes you can use that but lets keep this in moderation, we don't need fifty users holding onto that story. Truth is the second you get into the game just talk to a master, and they will help you make a lightsaber when they're sure that the character can handle it without slicing off one of their own limbs... Another big note, we do not want to see people with like one hundred different weapons, both factions will gladly provide them as needed... I don't see the use of coming into the game with a huge arsenal.)

Other Notes On This Subject: I personally don't find it the least bit impressive when someone posts a one thousand word profile, I would seriously rather be playing than reading word for word your characters entire life story, if you want to do that kind of thing you can write a fan fiction. But the profile is not the place to do that. We can learn more about your characters in the game, I mean isn't that why we're here to learn about each other's players, and then develope with them? Where would all the fun be if we already knew absolutely every second of their life? I've seen it many times were people made profiles so big it stretched the page to the point of me hitting the page down button three times, and with a thirty Two inch monitor like mine, thats a big shame.

Now it is time to learn how to make a really interesting, and proper post. In this post I will cover some common issues people have while posting, and several problems that arise as a result. But also how to avoid these problems.

1. I'll start with this forum's biggest, and most dominant issue POWER PLAYING:

Otherwise known, and godmodeling. This is a very offensive form of role playing, that will often lead to hurt feelings, and people getting upset, causing them to leave the forums in some cases. ABSOLUTELY NOBODY in this forum or any other is all powerfull, if you want appreciation for your character the best way to do it is... SOCIALIZE. Now to continue on, an example of power playing would be for example. Let's say Rimera is leading a special task force into a deep jungle on some unkown planet. Some kid who isn't even a knight yet, wont sense it, not even a Knight will. That's a master thing MAYBE... Now lets say this task forcec broke into the Jedi Temple killing everyone inside... That's not ok either. An example I've seen is the worst example of an administrator I've ever seen, who personally because I hated his spelling being every other words screwed up decided to strip my player of all power, and blow past the entire fleet. Suffice it to say I left that place quick.

2. How to make a good post:

Great posts contain details, and sometimes poetic romance, but all of these things in moderation. Romeo, and Juliet does not need to occur in every post. Also we don't need detail to the point of the molecular structure of the wine your character is drinking. One of the same principles for posting a profile also applies for thread posts. Again seeing that you can tyke four million words, is not impressive. That is for fanfictions, if your character has that much to say try writing it down so you don't forget it. Don't plague another member with ten thousand questions to respond to, or you will be waiting for a very long time, and that's assuming they'll even consider responding. Moderatly large responses are preferable, we don't want to see like ten posts in a row that only contain two or three words. I'll admit even sometimes I have trouble posting more than two sentances. That's ok, just don't do it for every single post.

Some of these people who makae these gigantic posts type for hours, and they all have one thing in common, they typically grow to hate role playing because they feel obligated to make posts of this magnitude. So I'm here to tell you it's not your responasbility to make the king of all posts. Occasionally an instructor will m ake a large post, this is ok they are teaching many students how to do something, and they must learn. Also should a master send your character on a mission feel free to make it large or split up into smallr sections with responses to other characters in them. We rarely send characters on solo missions. But should one of use decide to try to at least to one full paragraph.

3. Proper Grammatics:

Another relatively huge one, if you got through making an acceptable character then you should be able to handle this one. I'm not to picky about spelling errors, but seriously capitalize a name, and the beginning of a sentance, words of self reference such as the word "I" should always be capitalized. Also I understand that with some of the races of creatures that can't speak basic well that's fine play them like they are. But for those who's vocal cords cannot produce the sounds to speak basic, they may in the movies only grunt once or twice for the sentance, but you are typing in english, just because their dialect might be simple doesn't mean that what they are trying to say isn't complex, or that it should'nt be typed properly. This forum requires sentances typed in third person, which is as if you are looking down on them and describing what the character does. THIS IS NOT FIRST PERSON, which means no using the I went off and did such, and such...

4. Respect:

Although this has not been a big problem here I thought I'd bring it up. I mean you never know when someone might get offended by something that's been done. Should a conflict between you, and another player, please try to resolve this with them, in the chat thread mind you... But try to peacefully resolve the problem, if you find that you cannot then maybe one of the mods can. Insulting another pesons player out of character falls under that category, let's say that I said to Rimera: "Lord Meticulus is a stupid charcter." That falls under the personal disrespect category. However were things to go like this: "Keira walks up to the dark Lord Meticulus, spits at his feet, before insulting his carelessness, and maltreatment of all those around him..." That kind of hting is ok, because that is simply in the game, sure if you do that you will most likely get your character punished, but still fights within the game are supposed to happen, conflict adds a twist. But absolutely under no circumstances is anyone EVER to insult someones personal creativity, nor them as a person. This will get you warned, and if it continues banned. Which in my terms mean YOU WONT BE COMING BACK.

Hey Mods let's try each of us giving an example of a good, and bad post huh?

I'm going to add on to the character sheet.

When making your character, remember that they are TEENAGERS!, this is a Jedi ACADEMY!. Making a character that already knows everything is NOT OK.

Making a character that can do everything perfectly IS NOT ACCEPTABLE!

HAVING A CHARACTER LIKE THAT DESTROYS THE ENTIRE PURPOSE OF THIS RP!
