Kaira Jarbalo

Kaira peeked out of her room to make sure the hallway was empty, then slipped out quietly to make her way to the Room of a Thousand Fountains. She knew she should be in her bed sleeping, but she was restless. This wasn't the first time she'd felt this way. Many times she'd woken in the middle of the night with scattered fragments of dreams lingering on the edge of her mind. They always left her with a sense of dread, yet she didn't know why. The only way to calm her troubled mind was to go to the lush gardens and pools of water that always brought her peace.

With a relieved sigh, Kaira slipped into that green sanctuary, choosing a spot beside a small pond where she could sit without being easily seen. She layed back and stared up at the simulated night sky on the ceiling, breathing deeply and letting the calm wash over her. Here, she felt safe. Here, she didn't have to face the worried looks her instructors gave her when when she preferred to be by herself instead of with the other apprentices. She knew it was unusual for her to always choose solitude when others would be together, laughing and joking after a day of lessons, but she couldn't help it. Somehow, she had never been able to connect with anyone else here, even though this was the place where she had lived since she was an infant.

Kaira allowed herself a small, rare smile; something she never did when around other people. Perhaps, despite the instructors' misgivings, her preference of solitude would end up being a good thing. After all, she was the best at calming herself for meditation, which was something many of the other apprentices had trouble with.

Sith Academy

Red

Cole Sacul, head of the assassin program in the Sith academy, sighed as he watched the new initiates train. They were all terribly pathetic, not like his two best pupils. The first assassin Chloris had so much potential but she was captured by the Jedi, probably turned to the light or some other useless trash. His other favored pupil, known only as red had soaked up the knowledge like a sponge, becoming extremely focused and analytical, all good traits of an assassin. Though his apathetic visage usually scared most of the initiates, mostly due to the fact that they never knew if he was ignoring them or planning to stab them in their sleep.

The soft pat of footsteps alerted him to an arrival. He turned.

Ah speak of the devil, Red was there standing in the doorway.

"Boy, what do you want, can't you see I'm busy" he snarled.

Red said nothing as he ignited his crimson lightsaber.

Cole Smirked, bloodlust shining in his eyes.

"So its finally time eh? Well come boy show me what you've learned!"

Cole ignited his own blade and their duel began. The sound of crackling sabers echoed throughout the room as they clashed. Red would attack, while Cole defended then counterattacked. Their blades flashed in a barely visible light as they both fought for dominance. Red disengaged and jumped back, summoning the Force around him and launching a nearby chair at Cole.

"You'll need to do better boy!"

Cole spun and cut the chair in half sending the pieces after Red. Jumping out of the way Red channeled lightning into his fists and launched them at Cole who did the same. They both pushed more and more power into their attacks both trying to push the other back.

Red grunted in pain as he lost the contest and was knocked back, his lightsaber tossed from his hand. Cole stood over him smirking triumphantly.

"Well boy, looks like you've lost. It's such a shame to lose such a powerful assassin, but such is the way of the--URK."

Whatever Cole was about to say was cut off as a Sith katana was jammed into his heart by a second Red standing behind him. The Red on the floor disappeared signifying it as an illusion and nothing more.

"You're to foolish Cole."

"H-h-ho-how force illusions can't interact physically!"

Red stared apathetically at his outraged former master.

"People live their lives bound by what they accept as correct and true. That's how they define "Reality." But what does it mean to be "correct" or "true"? Merely vague concepts... their "reality" may all be a mirage. Can we consider them to simply be living in their own world, shaped by their beliefs?"

He continued on, ignoring Cole's growing outrage.

"Just because others have tried and failed, does that mean we should give up and chalk something as impossible. These kinds of things should be done away with as it restrains us and our capabilities."

And with that Red pulled the katana out of his former master's heart as his crimson eyes watched the body fall.

He had no regrets.

Imperial Palace, Kashidine Province of the planet Nolatael

Lady Setepenre

The Enismir Imperial Palace, embedded in the very heart of the capital, is an immense structure composed of lustrous blue stone, sharp metal, and luminous glass. From the domed-shaped base rise a multitude of metallic pillars which support several small spire-shaped towers, the dwellings of the Imperial Secretaries and their families. The royal residence, atop a vast and elegant center tower, is a spherical glass apartment….

In the ten years since her master's death, Setepenre's ambition had never once wavered. With an over-whelming thirst for power, she had single handedly manipulated a small planet into her greatest admirer, and an Emperor into a lover....

Sometimes she wondered how her master, the cold and calculating Darth Meticulus, would feel about the path she was following. She'd been the perfect apprentice, the perfect puppet. Beautiful, intelligent, and ruthless... So much work had gone into making her. But before long, the time came when the puppet had grown tired of being pulled along, and eventually, decided to cut the strings and walk alone...

That's not to say, however, that Setepenre left without her share of scars. For the remained of her life, she would hear the the odd whisper in the back of her mind, a dark figure in her dreams, and even the occasional gesture hidden in her daughter's disposition...

A part of him would always live on; in her. But, Meticulus's death had spelt life for Setepenre, and not once had she ever regretted his disposal...

Still beautiful, still intelligent, and still ruthless, Setepenre had begun afresh in a world where senseless violence and intolerable cruelty had been exchanged for diplomatic corruption and deceptive exploitation.

Here, she would prosper...

Keira Nomi

Keira knew she more than liekly wasn't welcome there anymore, but she had something else to take care of. Something she didn't know, but had to find out. Though she'd been forced into the Sith again she felt no such pressure now, Keira had to visit someone she used to know there. A badly beaten, and partially torn picture of this person hung delicately in her hand. "Iego." She spoke rubbing her hand gently down the photo, she then pulled her hood over her head to conceal her identity.

Keira began to wander aimlessely down the halls, she knew finding him would not be easy. But she needed to know something, and if he'd become bitter towards her there was something for her to tell him. Her fears clung to her like water in a sponge. But she kept all this burried just as she hid her feelings from the Sith.

Iego sighed as he walked the Temple corridors. Jenna had gone off to kill wamp rats like she usually did and he was off to the mess hall for some chow, then to the meditation chamber where Master Yosa was waiting. He turned down the corridor and stopped.

"I don't want to hurt you Iego, I'm not like you think I am. Meticulus kidnapped me back on Nar Shadaa, I had no choice. I wanted to come back but I couldn't." She spoke desperately trying to convince him of her genuine feelings. "I have to admit I'm no longer a Jedi, but neither am I a Sith, I'm something else, somewere in between, I'm not your enemy Iego." Keira raised her swords prepared to defend herself, she'd protect herself, but she promised herself she would not strike back at him.

Byakuko

She felt it at once, her rival had returned. A Sith who became a Jedi who became a Sith again... returns to their Jedi?! It was so absurd she would have laughed. Except, she had done something similar 10 years ago. She headed at once for the subtle yet oh too familiar flickers in the Force.

Terel

He felt the sudden flare in Byakuko's heart. It wasn't 'Dark', but the familiarity shocked him. Keira?! He thought it would take even more years to track her down. Or was it a trap?

He reached her at the same time as Byakuko did. "By all that is precious , you're safe! Thank the Force!"

Byakuko eyed her cowled nemesis warily. As if a disguise could hide their shared blood! "Hello? Is there anything we can help you with?"

Then they saw Iego. "What is the meaning of this Iego?!" Terel demanded of him.

"These hallowed halls are not the place for violence!" Added Byakuko, ignoring the fact that the last time they were all here, it was HER that had instigated the bloodshed.

Day had broken while Kaira was in her sanctuary, so she reluctantly stood up and stretched. With a sigh she left the Room of a Thousand Fountains and made her way to the mess hall to get breakfast. Many Jedi students were already eating, and Kaira kept her head down as she got her food, avoiding the probing gazes of her peers. I should have gone earlier; at least then I would have missed the morning rush, she thought idly. As she went to sit at a vacant table by herself she felt a set of eyes on her that weren't like the other young students around her. Whoever was staring at her was far older and more powerful than her and her peers. Kaira only hoped that the curious onlooker would ignore her, though she highly doubted she would be left alone.

Koranos/Lord Coeur

“Master Jin Tachi. I have spent the last ten years of my life to understand and imitate you. Today though, I create my own way with your blood. No more beatings, no more sleepless nights filled with torture, no more cruel tricks of the heart, just my life and freedom. If I lose, and I will most certainly die if I do, then I will be free anyways. Through the force I am free.”

With this mind set in place, I snapped the cortosis laced leather gauntlet into place, laced my boots, and clicked my belt-harness snug. I picked up my first two lightsabers and put them on my belt. I put the thirds battery into place, then I rose. My personal slave stepped up to me and placed the cloak over my shoulders, then backed away. My travel to Master Tachi’s quarters was brief, and I was at his door. I pressed the buzzer.

The door slid open and I stepped in. The cloak fell to the ground, and the door shut.

“My child, could it be?” A rich warm voice floated through the dark room. But I knew better than to take it at face value. I knew what kind of pain the owner could cause.

“Could it be, that you have finally built up enough courage,” he paused to cough in a raspy voice, and then went on. “That you have finally built up enough courage to challenge me for my position? I am proud of you, very proud.” He stepped partially into the light, hunched over.

“You were my equal months ago, now you are far my superior. I…”

I held up a hand. “No more words master. You will die in this room, and I will become strong, stronger than you, even stronger than Meticulous was.” I drew and activated my two sabers. “Now draw your weapon and let us fight!” He stood up straight, and with a flick of his wrist activated his lightsaber. “There is something I want you to know Koranos, here.” He tossed a small square at me, which I caught. It activated at my touch, and a family holograph sprung up from it, two men and a toddler boy were smiling. The oldest was a young version of Master Tachi, the other man was unknown to Koranos, and the toddler was Koranos. I looked at this, then slipped it into a pocket. Then I took up the original Vaapad fighting stance. He saluted me with his saber, then lunged at me.

He was fast for an old man, but his age did limit his movements enough so that I could see that I was a match for the old master. Still, his defense was solid, and I could hardly break through. We exchanged thrusts, parries, and swipes for a minute or two, when he unleashed a hellstorm of lightning. I blocked it, and when the stream of electricity stopped flowing past me I launched a string of attacks and ended it with my scizor attack. It is a multi-front swipe with one blade high, one blade low from the other side. He was about to lose his leg when a lightsaber cut through his robe and blocked the low swipe. I saw an opportunity. I pushed hard on both sides, then my droid arm split in half and a short saber activated into his chest, a strike that severed his spine. His sabers clattered to the floor. I deactivated mine, and set him on the floor. He grabbed my hand, coughed, and said as he died,

“I…am so…proud… of you, my grandson…” The cold look left his eyes, and his hand fell. And I, Lord Coeur rose from my baptism of blood and fire.

Ardera

Without Zayn as a confidant, Ardera was very lonely. Since the other Sith initiates were irritating, and quite self-absorbed into discovering the source of their hate, it wasn't difficult to find her own. She learned to duel, and to duel well. The Jedi visions still troubled her during meditation, but fortunately she hadn't yet been discovered that Master Anakin still spoke to her. Her obsession with finding the Chosen One was slowly dying. It's my fault, I let the Dark Side take over in a desire to discover the truth. And she couldn't return to the Jedi Temple. Her eyes wouldn't change back before, why should they now? And in addition, what if the Dark Side did happen to take over at that moment. Killing Jedi was not on her top list of priorities. Dying came first.

The Room of a Thousand Fountains was a nice place to meditate. She did avoid speaking with the voices, not out of fear, she reasoned, only a precaution, a safeguard. Attachment to even ghosts led to the Dark Side, she thought bitterly.

As grating as she sometimes finds the Odeo woman's vanity, she has a fundamental appreciation of her unflappability. "Their lack of foresight cost them." Coeur chuckled at that, then added, "I trust you didn't lose too much?"

Sith Academy Ziost

Red

"No actually, I cleaned everyone out, seems I was the only one who bet you would win."

Lord Coeur

"Not a surprise to you though? You did kill you master." Coeur pulled his hood over his head and sat down in his old masters meditation chair. "Anyways, what are your planning on doing now that you killed your task master?"

Sith Academy Ziost.

Red made the smallest shrug you could imagine.

"I don't know, honestly all this time we've been training to surpass our masters, now what though?"

Comrade Claus

Temple, Byakuko

"No, I don't think your eyes 'deceived' you. We did have a visitor. But Iego chased her off. The irony is, he showed far more hate, anger & aggression than I ever saw from her. He was quite the hypocrite. At least you aren't a pretender like they are." She turned to glance at the Vornskr. "You have great skill around animals. I recall a Sith named Dian had similar talents. I wonder what became of that Rancor of his. I have to say that the Sith failed to live up to the reputation I was told. I fact, Rogue Jedi have done far worse to their kind then all of the Sith through the ages. So I suggest you treat Iego with caution." She took a breath of Coruscanti air and went back into the temple. Terel, having stood quietly during their exchange followed, looking forlorn.

Lord Coeur

Coeur thought for a moment. "I suppose we continue to amass power, or try to destroy the Jedi, or something." Coeur shifted into a more comfortable position. "I think we should instigate a galatic war, really. The jedi would probably try and help the winning side and they would lose numbers. If the Sith stay out of it except for indirect but important roles we might come out stronger. Or, we could lead another assault on the Jedi Academy, to try ourselves against Jedi. What do you think?"

Lady Tragic

Temple

Crystal

Crystal sighed heavily, remaining where she was, and rubbed her vornskr's ears. "I'm not even really sure she wants to be a Jedi, Sweetheart. She still acts just as arrogantly as when she was a Sith, sometimes." Sweetheart rumbled agreeably, more with her petting than her words. "But at least that explains why Iego is all red around the edges. Not like him at all."

Jedi Temple

Iego Bathina

Iego stumbled out of the room, bruised, countless scratches and small burns across his body. He was holding his head in his hands, trying to hold back the tears that would inevitably come. Why did she have to come back, just as he was forgetting her. Why did she torture him in his dreams. Dreams of betrayel and death. Why couldn't she just stay missing and leave him alone.

Ord Mantell

Kanya and Tila

"-Tall guy, redhead. Probably has his left arm bandaged." Kanya was asking the Rodian. Tila, just an anonymous green twi'lek, scanned the crowds. So far, they hadn't gotten so much as a whiff. They'd stopped a tall, cloaked guy- but it had turned out to be a Duros.

Kanya removed her helmet and rubbed her temples, she was feeling the start of a headache. Ever since she'd first seen the warrant for Imdarris's arrest, she had the deepest internal conviction that it was important that she find him. The fact that he'd killed children grated on her, as did the fact that the Jedi themselves had done nothing, so she had to bring him to justice.

Kanya sighed. "It's getting late, and I need a drink. Figure Kayel's place is still open?" Tila, a Ord Mantell native, rolled her eyes.

"Kayel's will still be open when the sun turns into a lump of coal." she affirmed. Kanya might ostensibly live here, but she's only spent a total of a few months out of the past two years on-planet.

Kanya removed the diagonal sash marking her as a Ranger, then rolled it up and put it in her pocket. They then headed to a nearby bar.

The two women holed up in a corner. Kanya ordered Corellian whiskey and Tila fruit juice, unaware that they'd walked right by their prey.

"Oughta ask Kayel." muttered Kanya, eyeing the bartender. Tila snorted.

"Like he'd tell you anything."

Alco'ra can smell a whiff of cinnamon.

Kashidine Imperial Palace

Lady Setepenre

Nodding thoughtfully, Setepenre walked over to the window. She stood there for a moment, looking down at her budding empire from the grandeur of her glass palace. It was satisfying to recall the pitiful original state of Kashidine, her 'gift' from the Emperor, and how it had only taken the help of her High General, Kenris Nomi, and the interest of a few select politicians to set the city anew, freeing it from the sloth and greed that had settled.

The Emperor's Council, the group solely responsible for Setepenre and her circle's disposal, had been horrified to hear of Kashidine's successful reconstruction, and the key roles Setepenre and General Nomi had played. Now, they knew better than to underestimate the power of the concubine and her soldier...

"You've done well..." Setepenre says softly. "You may take your leave, Stalker. For the moment..."
