Topic: If you DM said that for completing one quest you could have anything what would it be?

this has just recently been offered to me if I am able to steal the sword that never sleeps from the royal vault in Evermeet. My 21st level arcane trickster is beside himself with worry over the choices so i figured that i would ask the people and find out what you would want. the gold limit is 50 million but the items are limitless and the opportunities are even better.

Do artifacts count? I'm sure there are some pretty sweet ones out there if your DM will allow it.

count for what? anything your dm allows counts in dnd but you have to remember that most artifacts dont or wont add to any stats or anything like that but some do. if you need to find some good artifacts to play with you should look in the dmg or the epic lvl handbook. most of my characters over tenth level employ at least one artifact. and remember there are also artifact weapons and armors. so you may actually have one running around in a campaign and not know it. artifacts like the eye of vecna or grumsh and the mace of st cuthbert and stuff like that rarely show up in a campaign without a large quest attatched and you can create magic items much more powerful. if you want a list of some good ones just mssg me and i can give you a pretty good list but i wont post it here. so i guess to answer ur question...in a word, yes. but dont count out the usefulness of anything in ur pack from a wonderous item to a bedroll or rope. its all useful and can count if u make it.

Yeah, I have the epic level handbook, but I usually play nonstandard classes, so the stuff from the core rulebooks often doesn't fit really well with my character. I really like the stuff that can be found in other sourcebooks like the Complete________ series, the splat books they printed a while back that each focused on 2 or 3 classes (ex. Masters of the Wild, Song and Silence), and the stuff put out by Mongoose publishing. I have a lot of those at home, but I am on campus right now, so the only ones I have with me of what I just listed are the Quintessential Druid and the Quintessential Elf, by Mongoose. Neither of those actually has any artifacts, but they do have some fairly interesting magic items if you happen to be a druid or elf. They aren't generally high-powered, but I like wondrous items of all types.

youre not alone in being a fan of the splat books and the complete series. im a huge fan of the complete adventurer it probably the most useful book i own and has been borrowed more than any book i own( including the dragonomicon, which is seemingly always staying somewhere else). how often do you play and where r u from? we play pretty regular around here in missouri but our group is fading as everyone has become a dm themselves its hard for us to play together without demolishing the campaign and bending everything to our will against a less experienced dm or each other. thats sortof why i started this thread and "the dreaming dragon" thread to hear some fresh ideas and hear stories from other players that might boad helpful. as an example night before last we had a five man party (built for the job naturally) sneak into evermeet under the nose of the elves and the drow, starting in the underdark, tunneling under the ocean, over a sea of magma fighting a hoard of pyroclastic dragons, through a honeycomb twelve level maze, climbed a 3 mile high spire to reach the surface, sneaked through two fortresses guarding the exit (each containing a hundred or so elf soldiers) then into the royal vault of the elves killing a psionic warrior demilich guardian, stole namora the sword that never sleeps, snuck back out, and into Myth Drannor to windsong tower to deliver the sword to the employer of the entire job. all without even being seen. it was 13 hrs long. i could probably get the scematics of the campaign if you would like it was pretty good.

the loot was good too. me and my wife got our own personal island with a full staff and monthly payment for the rest of our lives. not to mention 7 levels. the island and staff came up to be worth about 7 million gold pieces.

I'm from Maryland and I don't get a lot of opportunity to play. I can play at least once a year because my uncle DM's a party for my brother's birthday, but finding people to play with is really hard the rest of the time. I have considered taking up the mantle of DM and just trying to find other people who are interested, but I'm not very experienced as a DM and finding people in my dorm who have free time is almost impossible. I've wanted to play a character in Forgotten Realms ever since I first read the campaign setting, but it looks like nobody I know is interested in running a campaign. Well, I am more of a story-oriented player, so I guess I could always join one of the RP threads on candlekeep or something.

once a year would kill me. my wife talked me into playing only once or twice a week and im struggleing with that lol. dont join candlekeep or any of those threads. thats probably the saddest bunch of players ive ever seen. if you want to play and youre in college you should have no problem finding people who play. all you have to do is go to any place in the city that sells magic the gathering or dnd books. chances are someone in one of those two places knows where a game is being held regularly or they know a "regular" who buys books and also wants to paly dnd. its as easy as asking (especially if there is a gaming store, which in most college towns there are) and poof you have ur circle. even if you dont know the people dnd will be the common intrest so its not like going to a party at someone elses house you dont know. just bring plenty of soda chips and knowledge and ur in.

If you want to run ur own game thats simple. just tell a story and keep it interesting. if you need help on ideas at first there are some campaign setting paperbacks that can take a party from lvl 1 to 20 and all u have to do is read. the first one being the Sunless Citadel, i think. anyway after a couple of those to build ur confidence you can branch out on ur own and grasp the power of DM.

another good way to find adventurers is to put up flyers announcing that ur looking for dnd players to have a regular gaming session with. i know this sounds kinda hoaky and lame but it works on a college campus for some reason. and you will probably draw more girls than guys that way (always a bonus :) since they tend to pay more attention to stuff like that. oh use ur dorm room for a contact and not ur phone number unless u enjoy drunken phone calls at 3am from some dick head football player. good place to post them would be the caf and the quad or rec hall and possibly in the math and science halls. just as a reminder you dont want morons playing in ur campaign. it make the game a little stressful having to add for people and all that. remember dnd is a game designed for people of above average intelligence and anyone not in that group does struggle.(except for 4.0, damn hasbro lol)

anyway good luck with the party search and i hope ive been of some help. remember its a big world outside of that dorm, and outside of faerune. dont worry about ur skills as a dm we were all nervous at first. it will come with time and patience, let the books be ur guide!

I actually like the discussion on Candlekeep because I am really into Forgotten Realms lore, but the RP forums are a little strange. There is a comic shop a couple miles away from campus, so I guess trying there could work. The funny thing is I keep seeing people on campus wearing D&D humor shirts and hoodies and talking about their games as they walk along, but I don't know any of them. I guess that just means its time to get out there and ask people.

I'm a girl and, come to think of it, the only other girl I have ever played D&D with is my mom when my family was going through the 3rd edition starter set. I never realized that before.

Well, thanks for the advice!

oh you never told me you were a girl that changes everything. you should have no problem finding a game. female gamers are a rare thing. just find a guy wearing dnd merchandise and ask about the game. im sure he will open up to you quickly (especially if ur cute lol) and youll have a gaming group in no time. good luck on ur search for a party and i hope you get to start rolling dice soon!
