Topic: Writing Frustrations
There are reasons why the phrase 'Tortured Artist' exists and why writing is considered an art. Though art only exists to the eye of the beholder.

I've got dozens of ficts bouncing around and trying to work on only a handful of them. They each seem to have times were they have momentum, that I may get somewhere. Then I hit the proverbial wall and nothing.

Currently my muse got obsessed with a CCS one-shot ideal that's gone way past where I had intended it to. When I started it, it was to be roughly ten pages. It's now standing at seventeen and MAYBE half done. The plot just began to wander off and found a new direction, a new meaning. Where the plot device used to make main emphasis of the story decided to loop upon itself and take over as the main plot.

There are some ficts I have where my outline follows almost supernaturally to the set path. Then there are others where the plot and characters just can't be bothered with the outline and decide they want to do things their way.

It makes it real annoying when trying to deal write a 'simple' story.

So what are your pains, gripes, and tribulations of writing?

When I set off to write simple, I have to forego detail... and when I pass that by, I need to fill in with plot. In short, I can't write simple... and as soon as I bump up to a new level, I have to stay at that level or reach higher. I can't go back once I've raised the bar. And even if I have started a simple story... it will go on forever just because it's hard to end something when I get so many ideas for it.

And if I do manage to restrain myself, it flows over the blocks to become another new idea completely.

4 words:

"research ate my brains"

I do more reserach into all sorts of tiny details for a fic than actual writing, which gets extremely annoying after a while, 'cause it becomes extremely hard to slip just the right amount in.

If you don't like ffNET's "Rules", then post somewhere else.

There's some point where research might need to take a backseat to the story, unless a certain scene requires geographical knowledge of an area (can't remember how long I searched and searched for railway lines in the Odaiba District of Tokyo. xx; ). In terms of having multiple story ideas...it's best to just stick with a few at a time. For instance, my current author's page has three in-progress stories near the top:

Zero 2: The Comeback Tour

Final Fantasy X3: Dreams and Nightmares

Naruto: Legacy

So here's how it goes...I write one chapter of Legacy. As I near the end of that chapter, I begin thinking about the plot of a chapter for FFX3. When I upload the new chapter of Legacy...the order changes.

Naruto: Legacy

Zero 2: The Comeback Tour

Final Fantasy X3: Dreams and Nightmares

Then I write on FFX3's chapter, all the while thinking about the new chapter of CT. I upload FFX3's new chapter...and the order changes again.

Final Fantasy X3: Dreams and Nightmares

Naruto: Legacy

Zero 2: The Comeback Tour

Wash, rinse, repeat. This method has helped me keep stable update times for my readers while preventing me from getting burned out on any one story.

Lord Archive, I know the feeling...

Every time I open up my word processor and work on one of my stories, I go back looking at it and scream as I realize that what I've written is nothing like what I was planning.

Worst series for getting multiple rewrites is Digimon, followed by Teen Titans.

I feel your pain, Lord Archive, especially when you are the one writing War Diaries... You're dealing with the one brunette that has given me hell trying to make her stick to the original plot with.

I've been getting that feelign for a fic I'm writting. What started out as a funny (and would have been OOC) fic is getting harder and harder to keep in charcater and have humor of any kind to it. *headdesk*

I agree with Ultra Sonic, as I write a new chapter for one story, I am plotting for the other one. What takes my time is to actually sit down and write >_<
