sylvaniusTopic: Welcome!
Welcome to the D/N Writer's Faction! This is a forum dedicated to author's sharing ideas and producing great new fanfiction and is based for the most part on the pairing of Daine and Numair, not that you aren't allowed to discuss anything else. As you many hav enotived the forum has been split into different categories so when you post a thread try to remember to put it into the category it belongs in, if you aren't sure it will be moved to the correct one and we'll let you know:) I am still not happy with the way the category system is set up so if this forum becomes succesful I will strongly consider moving it off site. Also, if we get going I will be wanting some other users to moderate with me, makes it a lot easier ;) So, have fun...get some inspiration...meet some fellow writer's. If you want you can introduce yourselves here :) |
Even LaterWooh! Glad to see you got it up and running. I can't wait to see how this turns out when it gets goking. I don't write much, but I'm always available for beta and critiques :) |
sylvaniusThanks :) Hopefully some more people will show up :p. There was some interest so I think they will...then we've just gotta get things going! |
Shayna MaidelThis looks great! Thank you for setting this up. ^_^ Ehm... introductions... well, I'm Shayna. I'm lousy at introductions, though I love to write. I'm a huge fan of Tamora Pierce. I love fantasy in general, too. And sci-fi; lots of sci-fi. I'm also an avid shipper, obviously of Daine and Numair among others. And... that's all I can think of right now. XD. |
Arya MageFireOMG YESH! It's up finally! :DDD I'm gonna have to write me some D/N now!! Actually, I just realized, I have a story that's slightly like D/N already! With some tweaks, it'll work perfectly! :DDDDDDD Kinda like Modern, but different. I'm gonna have to take some liberties with the story.... |
sylvaniusThat's the great thing about fanfic, you can take a lot of liberties :) That's why I am so fond of Alternate Universe peices. I realized I forgot to introduce myself. Right, so I've been writing on FF.net for about 5 years now thought most of that time I only had my, almost done, fic 'Modern' going and it's progress was..unsteady to say the least. Since this last September I have begun writing a lot more and become much more active in the fandom...which I've had a lot of fun with. Ummm, let's see...I like a lot of different books, my favourite are usually fantasy. At the moment my all time favourite novel (not series) is The Time Traveler's Wife. It's amazing, you should read it. I also like music of almost every kind, comic books, anime and video games (Final Fantasy mostly). You could probably tell all this from my profile but still. Anyway, thanks to all you guys for introducing yourselves and get out there and post! I have a few starter threads already up but don't feel shy about starting your own thread,; go for it! edit: Total side note but I ADORE Bones Shayna. It's my all time favourite show ;) | #6 Apr 06th, 10:10am . Edited Apr 06th, 10:11am

Even LaterI'm so happy this is working out! I didn't really introduce myself either...... My profile has most everything, but basics are I'm a 21 year old college student. I enjoy many different hobbies and sports, some of which help me a lot in betaing Tortall fanfics. I'm an avid bowhunter and archer (mostly white tail deer, but also hogs, turkey, and this winter moose, elk and carribou!), I've been riding, training, and showing horses for over 16 years. I was an Animal Science major for 3 years and just switched to Food Resource Economics. I'm still minoring in Animal Sciences and Husbandry, with a specialization in Equine Management. I'm also doing a minor in Natural Resource Law and in Wildlife Sciences.... I've been on Fanfiction.net for over 8 years but I've only written 1 very short fic. In high school I was in all sorts of AP writing and reading classes and they kind of burned me out on writing. Then I started college and was on an NCAA varsity equestrian teamand along with classes barely had time to sneeze, let alone read or write fanfiction. I have a little more time on my hands but haven't quite gotten back into writing mode. I still love to read and can do about one TP book every day or two pretty consistently. I love reading D/N and helping other writers out with characterization, story lines, consistency and grammar. I can't wait to see some of the stuff that comes up here. I'm willing to help anyone out any time. I'm always around (I've got an iPhone ;) ) |
Cygnet ShearwaterHeya! I'm Cygnet, I'm 16, (17 in 24days, hooray!). I read a lot, or did, back when I had time. TP is my favorite, I'm kinda a lousy writer, or rather, I lack the dedication and imagination to structure plots (I'm pretty great at analytiocal stuff). I mainly do one-shots, LOVE DN.... Mainly because I'm an aniaml freak, I ride horses (nice avvie, Even Later) I half lease a fjord, though I've never shown and am not interested in starting. I train dogs, goats, horses, donkeys...ducks...so I've always been unbelievably jealous of Daine! I really want to be an art major, maybe music minor, I play the flute, have started looking at colleges and am in WAAY over my head. Anyway, thrilled to see this thing get going, fantastic idea, Sylvanus! |
Even LaterThanks Cygnet, that's my pride and joy, Even (where my name came from). I've read your fics and really liked them, especially Unspoken! It was a while ago though, when I had my old laptop which had a severe phobia of letting me review stuff..... But I got a new one a few months ago so that's all cleared up! |
sylvaniusThanks Cygnet! I'm hoping it will be succesful...I definitely agree with Even Later, you have some very good fics, especially Unspoken. You've got some writing talent;) BTW Some of you guys should go over and nominate fics for the fic of the week challenge ;) | #10 Apr 07th, 5:47am . Edited Apr 07th, 5:50am
Cygnet ShearwaterAww, thanks you guys. And Sylvanius, I just don't know which to nominate, there are so many fantastic ones! Maybe...Concealed? Or one of Sparrow's.....I'll have to go back and look at them all some more. |
sylvaniusHaha, don't worry. You can always nominate a new one next week :) |

math music readingHi! I'm math music reading, I discovered fanfiction.net in January, and I am a fifteen year old sophomore. If anyone is wondering about the weird name, there is a scholarship for sophomores called Energy Solutions that I was applying for so I was thinking about my main interests and activities in life when I made my fanfiction account. So, the most important things about me. As can be seen from my username, I love books, music, and yes, math. Reading is my number one hobby, I play flute, piano, and violin, I sing, and I'm two years ahead in math. The most interesting fact about me is that I have an older brother, an older twin sister, and a younger brother and younger sister who are twins. That makes me the middle child with each type of sibling and two sets of twins in my family, both sets are fraternal. About my actualy personality I think I will just go with the fact that I am very wordy. I'm also very excited right now because I just checked Tamora Pierce's website and a short story is being published in an anthology that will be about Kitten, Daine, and Numair! I also just read a deleted scene on her website from Emperor Mage. If you haven't visited her website recently, go check it out! |
sylvaniusWelcome aboard! Really? I haven't been to her site recently although I've read the EM outtake...I didn't know about the short story though, that's exciting... |

watermageb*waves* I'm 22, currently in Italy to study art restoration and history. When not stuck in a lab I tend to be as far outside as possible--climbing, skiing, hiking etc. When read the Immortals and the Lioness quartet years ago these two grabbed my attention, and we never really get to see enough of them in the following books. Finding the audiobook versions of the Immortals reminded me of how much I enjoy them, hence venturing onto ff.net, somewhere I usually avoid like the plague. I've beta'd before and done fanart on request, mostly for HP, though I'm always open to suggestions. It'd be great to get more interest back in the fandom, so perhaps some authors would finish their WIP's if nothing else. |
sylvaniusWelcome to the board, good to have you :) Wow, I would love to go study in Italy. Art restoration and history sound really interesting too, I'm going to university next year for anthropology/ archaeology and I can't wait. Now I just have to decide where I am going :S Anyway, welcome again:) |
Arya MageFireHEY! Sorry I've been off so much lately... Working on an AU D/N fic! Kinda like Modern, but a LOT different. :D :DDDDD *is excited* If anyone wants to beta, then PM me! But be warned, I don't always check my email! So it may be a while...... XD (a week at the most) |
sylvaniusHeh, no worries. I've been off for far too long myself, AP exams :( Looking forward to your story (unfortunately I would be a horrible beta since I am barely capable of looking over my own stories), what's it going to be called? When you post it you should put it up in the 'advertising' section so people know it's up :) |
Cygnet Shearwatergarr...I also have this story-ette in mind, but no time to write it! A beta might be usefull in a later time...when I have two second to rub together.... (of course, I might have more time in my life if I didn't squander it away reading fanfiction....but whatever) |
math music readingWow, posting was rather nonexistant for a while there. I've just finished my AP testing and now I'm preparing for things like SAT Subject Tests and finals and doing some math tutoring (I'm really starting to think I should make "substitue teacher" one of my options for when I'm job hunting in the future and during retirement). I'd like to try being a beta if I'm found acceptable but if sylvanius believes she should decline, I doubt I'm qualified. I'll be good at finding typos though! I understand about lack of time, I'm starting things that are going to keep me busy (like the return of Marching Band season!) and I like spending my time reading fics. I wish everyone good luck in all upcoming academic endeavors and I hope there'll be more writing over the summer. I know I'm personally psyched about the progress on my town's library, it's not as pretty but it looks really modern and officially has two stories! |
Cygnet Shearwaterwow, Math Music Reading, its fairly scarey how parrallel our lives are. I just finished SAT and AP tests, am searching for a job and contimplating subject tests (which I probably won't take, what art school cares about subject tests? Is there an art subject test? that'd be ridiculous, the questions would be like, what+what=green?) Plus, I'm also in the marching band so...there's that! Our concert season just finished up, our concert was last week. All that's left is memorial Day parades and pomp and circumstance at graduation (someone get my shotgun, that song makes me suicidal.) But yeah....funfun! OooH! AND I got BLOODHOUND for my birthday, which I'm phyced about! Congrats on your spiffy library, I'm super jealous! - Cygnet |
Arya MageFireEheh. It doesn't have a title yet unfortunately.... XDDDDDDDDDDDDD The only thing it has is quite a few hand written pages......... Not even typed yet! |
sylvaniusHeh, I am horrible at titles (which is why my modern fic is oh so creatively called 'modern'....i really liked my title for 'love and other disasters' though..teehee:)) but a few pages is excellent progress...I am horrible at doing long bits at a time...which is why that fic i have going on another fandom hasn't ben updated...at all...cause i wanted all my chapters above 3,000 words...which is about triple what I normally do...*sigh*...I am impressed you did it on paper too.....that's another thing i am impatient about..rewriting...or going over stuff again... It's actually my impatience that led me to say I was unqualified to be a beta...so no one should feel like they are unqualified just cause I am, trust me; it means nothing ;) Besides, even if it did have to do with my writing skill there are plenty of you here who are much more talented here so think nothing of it. I applaud anyone who would put themselves forth as betas. Oh heh...don't forget to subscribe you guys..that way you'll actually know when new posts are put up...I know that I would always forget to check it if I didn't get e-mail alerts.. | #23 May 19th, 7:54pm . dares to dream::angry sigh:: Okay, so i had my entire introduction thing written and was about to post it, then my internet went wacky and everything was deleted. Figures. Oh well, thus is life. Back to what I wrote five minutes ago: I am dares to dream. You guys can call me whatever you want. Cassidy, Bird, 'girl-who-needs-go-get-her-butt-out-of-this-writing-slump'. I respond to just about anything. I have been writing fanfiction for...I suppose over a year now. Nearly all of my stories have been in the TP universe, and a few have been D/N. I mostly read fics from other universes, but always come back to good ole' Tamora Pierce (though that category does not exist anymore...not that I am bitter or anything.) (Oh yes, another point: I can be heavily sarcastic. Which is bad when typing, and not speaknig face to face. Sometimes it might be hard to catch.) As I mentioned, I am in a writing slump, and part of me is hoping this lovely little forum will help me out of this silly ditch. And if it doesnt, it will be a fun way to get back in touch with the friendly fanfiction community. So yeah. All done. ::glares at internet God:: I am going to post this now and nothing will get.... You have to be kidding me. My power just flickered. ::unpluggs laptop:: All better. :) |

amethystfire510Hi! I'm amethystfire510. I'm 18 and I'm totally new to this. I'm currently studying and if all goes well, I'll be heading to university next year. I discovered Tamora Pierce books quite by accident when i was at a library looking for good reads. Briar's book was the first I ever read. When I finally picked up The Immortals series about 2-3 years from when I first started, i was hooked!! *grin* I've just written my first fanfic and guess what? It's about D/N:) It must be because Numair and Daine have a special place in my heart, since their the first Tortall books I've read! Oh, and this is also the first time I'm on a forum, so I reeeally hope this goes up right!! |
LotenMy name is Loten and I write DN fanfics. /AA Anyway, hello everyone. Sylvanius invited me over yesterday, so here I am. I've been writing fanfiction for many years now. I've been writing half-decent fanfiction for only a few months, however! At the moment the fics I have up are the Immortals quartet completely rewritten from Numair's perspective - that's almost completely finished now, just the last few chapters of RotG to go. Feel free to take a look if you haven't already - against all odds, it seems some people like them, the first two won fourth and second place respectively in the most recent Knighthood of Ficship contest here, although I have no idea why. I'm going to be writing more Immortals fics in the future, as well as other stuff. Mostly one-shots, I suspect, although I'm working on Arram's full story (let's see if I finish it before TP does!) |
xwingdayHey, I wanted to let you know that I'm extremly glad to see a forum dealing with any of the Tortall characters. Thanks for sending me that message to let me know about this forum. |
SkiaShadowsHello! Thanks for the invite! It's too bad that the Tamora Pierce novels don't have as much popularity as some other things. It's great that this forum exists though, and I'm glad to have a chance to join it ^ ^ |
sylvaniusWelcome to the forum you guys! It's great to see some new people; if you haven't already done it make sure you subscribe so you know when new posts are added. I hope you all become active so don't be afraid to add to some of the topics or create your own. I'd really like for this forum to be a good resource for writer's looking for some inspiration. dares to dream: That really sucks, I hate it when that happens. By the way, I love Bones, I'm so happy the new seasons started :D amethystfire510: It's great to hear that you've started in on fanfic, I'll have to go check out your fic :) If you ever need help with ideas don't hesitate to post! Loten: I'm really interested in reading that story about Arram that you have coming up; you should let us know when you post it :) xwingday: No problem; I hope you like the forum! SkiaShadows: Great to see you aboard! I know that it's sad that they aren't more popular; especially now that the groups are separated and you see how small the Immortals section is... Sorry about the weird format but I wanted to reply to everyone and otherwise it would have been too confusing. Anyway, welcome you guys and have fun! |
Shayna MaidelOoh it's nice to see people. And another Bones fan! I'm happy to see a new season too. And to all: I will definitely check out all your fics. Feel free to send a message my way if you'd like me to give you more feedback than I'd put in reviews-- I like doing that, it's fun. ^_^ |

Hidden FairyHi There! oops... pressed the wrong button. was going to write more :) Hidden Fairy here, thanks very much for the invite to the forum. I do love anything to do with Tamora Pierce and especially D&N. For those who know my stories... I have not abandoned them. Uni is a whole lot of work and sucks my ideas dry. Am looking forward to joining in :) ps. am also a HUGE Bones fan. Check out my profile for some fics :) | #31 Sep 21st, 7:37pm . Edited by sylvanius, Sep 21st, 7:41pm

sylvaniusWelcome aboard Hidden Fairy! By the way I condensed your posts into one just so you know... Bones is awesome, I can't wait for this weeks episode....We should be careful or this will become a Bones thread :S |
Hidden FairyIm from down under... so we dont get season 5 till later :( but im excited just the same |
dares to dreamAha. Like Sylvanius said, we probably should be careful. Bones is the msot amazing show. mwaha. I think the first episode of season 5 is on hulu if you really feel like watching it. :) And to kind of bring this back to the actual purpose of this forum: I saw the most beautiful hardcover TP book at the library yesterday! |
The WhisperHello everyone. Thanks Sylvanius for inviting me to this forum! I'm The Whisper, a 22yr old postgrad student from Australia who has loved Tamora Pierce ever since I was about 14! I've only written a few stories in the Immortal fandom, and my major piece is still unfinished. I think ff.net splitting TPs fandom into individual series is a nice idea as it makes it easier to find the fic you're looking for (yes, you used to be able to sort them, but... that's an extra mouse click hehe.) I think its also enticed me to get back into reading some serious D/N, so I'm quite excited! |
skyisthelimitHi! I'm skyisthelimit, and am new to forums, so bear with me if I post in the wrong place or something. I'm a versatile fanfic writer. So far I only have one Tamora Pierce fic. DN, or course. Or, actually, technically not. My fic is Emperor Mage from Numair's POV (because I, for one, can not get enough of Numair ;). I've taken a short hiatus from it because I realized that it would need some actual planning (I originally took up the idea as a way to get around writers block, but then I got hooked to it), so now I'm writing an outline and trying to get a couple chapters ahead before I start posting again. It's surprisingly more difficult to add to an already intricate plot than it is to make up your own O.o. Anyway, I some people wonder why I chose EM, not WM. Simple. This was only supposed to be an exercise to get through my writers block. So I just chose one of my favorites from the series. Well, they're all my favorites, but RotG was intimidating to try and nab on my first time doing somethng Numair centric, and EM was really exciting. So I just started to write. Before I knew it, I had 2 chatpers. Enough about my fics :) I LOVE all Tamora Pierce books (through preferably the Tortall sagas), however I will forever hold a special bias towards the Immortals series because it was the first series that I read of hers. I just LOVE Numair. I with he were real. He would be the BEST teacher EVER, and more ;) I also love Daine. She's one of my favorite heroines, because she's a strong woman even though she's not a lady knight (no offense to Alanna or Kel), and can still whoop men's butt. :) Anyway, I'm in love with the realm, I'm in love with fanfic, and I'm in love with sharing. So I decided to join this forum! (PS I think the category separation is stupid. Especially since the original characters in the original books continue to have substories in the other series. Just goes to show that FF moderators don't ACTUALLY read -_- ) PPS Loten, I admire your stories of Numair as well. Please don't get offended. I honestly had no idea your stories were up before I posted. And I will do my best to make sure that there's not even a possibility of plagiarism | #36 Sep 22nd, 8:37pm . Edited Sep 22nd, 8:43pm

sylvaniusI'm so glad to see people taking an interest! I really hope this can become a good resource fro writers and can boost the fandom. I don't know why it didn't occur to me sooner to send out PM's but I'm glad I did. I can't tell you how long it took me....I went through all the authors int he immortals section and then had to sift through the search results from Song of the Lioness....I went as far back as authors who have a D/N fic published as early as 2008...Unfortunately it's not the best system and I'm sure I missed people..and for this to be successful we need members who are active...and obviously we are taking a huge step right now but I would really appreciate it if you guys could spread the word if you have any author friends!! Ooooh what was it a harcover of? I have a hardcover copy of the entire Immortals series in one book...I found it for 50 cents on amazon..it makes me really happy...the cover sucks though, they drew Daine with Black hair..and she's like..super mega tan....but whatever..it's still cool...except in hardcover version it's like..not even 500 pages for the whole series..which makes me sad... anyway..welcome everyone! I hope you enjoy the forum and make sure to be active! |
dares to dreamIt was of "In the Hands of the Goddess" from the Alanna series. So it wasnt the Immortals, but it was so pretty!!! OOO! Are you serious!?!?!?! Well, of course you are. But WOW! That would be so amazing! One of these days, after I find a job, I am going to go to Half-Price Books and find myself a really pretty hardcover of my favorite book. The challenge: finding a job to afford said book. haha. I am already loving this forum. Hmm... we should create a challenge or something soon. Off to an ice bath.... |
sylvaniusIf you want to create a challenge for it. Anyone can post a challenge or request (I have a challenge on here somewhere..but no one took is up :() just make sure to post it in the challenges/requests category when you post it. |
skyisthelimitWhen I settle on my own, I'm going to get a hardcover edition of all my books and start my own library. But I have to admit, I have a big soft spot for my Immortals paper backs eversince I saw it at my school's book fair about 4 years ago :) Also, out of all the covers, I think this edition's are the prettiest (the ones with a pony and green backdrop, a wolf and blue backdrop, a bird and purple backdrop, and dragon and red backdrop). They always draw Daine so badly, I think. |
sylvaniusHey, I'd just like to ask that anybody who hasn't read the rules go over and read them now. Everyone here has been really friendly and respectful to date so I'm not worried but I would still like people to be familiar with them since FF.net does have some rules as to content (age approproate-ness and such) and I would really hate for this forum to get reported. Most people on ff.net are friendly and don't report people for minor things but there are a number who will very happily report authors and forums for very minor things. For instance look up 'the flamers union' (in general forums I think) mostly they just flame people because they like to (don't get me started on this...I nearly reported them but you can't report people for flaming here) but if you read through a bit (they have a thread where they make fun of the replies they get to their flames) you will find a few of them who seem to look for things to report. (Luckily this forum seems pretty small.....ugh...) Anyway, I'd really appreciate it if you guys would just make sure you've read through them so you're familiar with them. Thanks :) |
Shayna Maidel", they drew Daine with Black hair..and she's like..super mega tan....but whatever..it's still cool." ... you sure that's not Numair? Because I was always under the assumption that's the general description of him... shoulder length black hair, tan? Meh, I've never seen it so I'm just speculating. XD |
sylvaniuslmfao....hahahaha...omg, that would be so funny but i'm pretty sure it's meant to be Daine...she does look a bit mannish though...here's a link tot he cover... http://www.tamora-pierce.com/images/immortals%20sfbc%20bindup4online.jpg |

i heart romanceThere are a lot of really weird covers for TP's books. But i still love them. Introduction: Hi, I'm i heart romance. I've been on fanfiction for a while and written a few stories, TP only. Reading is my obsession and i want to someday be a writer. TP is my favourite author and D/N is my favourite pairing! i first read TAmora PIerce when i was in year 5 (four or so years ago), my babysitter put me onto them and I've been in love ever since! As you ca tell from my name I'm a massive romantic and most of my time on the computer i spen on fanficiton (or MLIA). This is the first forum I've joined and the first thing I've done on it so if i do something weird, I'm sorry but I'm still learning! i think the forum is a great idea and i want to thank sylvanius for setting it up and inviting me! Oh and i love Bones too! though i only recently discovered it! |
sylvaniusGood to have you aboard! Don't worry about being new to forum use, you aren't the only one and everyone's really friendly here. If you have any questions feel free to ask. I just put up some challenges if you're interested..you can go take a look if you are in the writing mood:) I love MLIA too btw...I just found it a couple weeks ago...so much better than FML... |
Shayna MaidelAw, all right, that is Daine. It was a distinct possibilities though. Welcome, i heart romance =) I really wish they'd do more mentioning of Daine and Numair. You do hear a bit about them in Tricksters Queen, but not much. I find it kind of interesting that they named their child Rikash. It's... different (they did do that, didn't they? Or was that a fanfic I read? You all have no idea how often I have to double check my canon because I've absorbed so much into my personal!canon *sigh*) |
i heart romanceThere is not nearly enough mention of them! There's heaps of Alanna though! I get confused between fanfics and actual books so much! I always forget if things actually happened or not. I like the names they give thier kids, their sweet :) But if i was them I would have named my son Arram. But thats just me! MLIA is so much better than FML! FML is so depressing! |
sylvaniusHahahaha, I know what you mean...every few fics I have to go back and reread some of the books to make sure that I am staying close to their actual characters and not the fanfic versions of their characters (sometimes I start getting pretty far off)...but yes, they named their second child Rikash. I really liked Rikash...but I dunno..it gets on my nerves when books characters always name their kids after other people..it just happens like...all the time... messed up Daine though, yeah? Still...all four books in one...makes it much more portable for university... |
i heart romanceI know what you mean about names. If its after someone who died, I can understand that- like in Harry Potter. But otherwise it just gets annoying sometimes. I feel so young! it seems everybody else in the forum is at or going to university! I'm only in high school! |
sylvaniusHaha don't worry, I'm a freshman..and I got involved at ff.net before I was even IN highschool, it's okay. As long as you are passionate about writing then I really don't think age matters. I can understand it in Harry Potter..but I thought it was kind of overkill with their kids...soooo many dead people names! Although I was super psyched he put Severus in there...i was like 'hellz yes!' Severus was my favourite character, I admit it. You guys want to do me a favour and go look at the prompts that I posted? I'm new to making posts and I want to know what you think of them...if they are too easy/ too hard..not interesting enough...whatever...I'd like some feedback. |
