Topic: Writing Competition Sign-up

This is where you can sign up to compete in the writing competition. If you got the PM from me you'll already know how it works but if not here's a description anyway...

How it will work is that anyone who wants to compete will sign up before they know what the prompt it, therefore saying they will be willing to write anything. This also means that no one will get a head start on anyone else. After the sign up period is over a prompt will be released. This prompt may be a starting line, a set of parameters to meet, a certain situation…anything. There will also probably be a word length limit. Now….once the prompt is released you will be given a deadline by which you must submit the story (do so by posting it on FF.net and providing a link to it on the thread that will be made)…anyone who wished to remain eligible must submit their story by this date. Now as for deciding a winner we will do that by poll. Those who competed will be allowed to vote if they wish but not for their own piece…so they may not want to vote. The vote will be open to those who didn’t compete as well and we will just have to take it on good faith that they read ALL competing stories before voting. When the voting period is over…I’ll announce the winners and…well..there isn’t really a prize…the satisfaction of writing a great piece I guess. If people want I could make a little dispay pic or something…marking you as a winner…

Here is a schedule of the periods of the competition.

Sign up period: Now until November 7th

Writing Period : November 8th – November 21st (The prompt will be released the 8th)

Voting period: November 22nd – December 5th

If you want to participate pot here saying so and I'll add you to the list of participants. In case you forget the dates I'll also send all competitors a notice when the prompt has been posted. I was going to say that I would participate until I realized I'll be the one finding the prompt which will give me an unfair advantage...if anyone wants to be involved but doesn't really want to compete this time around but would be interested in coming up with the prompt let me know..that way I can compete... ;)

I'd like to give it a try, please sign me up. I haven't been in one of these before either, but I have read a lot of stories that started from the same prompt. I look forward to seeing what all of us do with the prompt.

Glad you're going to be involved :) A lot of people haven't done a competition before but I think it's going to be a lot of fun....I'm bouncing around with some alternate ideas of how to get a prompt now so I can compete :p

I'm trying to read one of each of your stories, so if I don't review feel free to give me a cybernetic kick. B-) Might take me a few to review, as I am doing the full time student/part time care taker/part time guard mix.

math music reading gave me an idea as to how to choose a prompt. There are already several that are on the forum that haven't been used. How about we use one of those and choose it at random.

I was thinking that I could randomly choose one with the assistance of two other people. Basically I would post the links to all the possible prompts here (There's one that has about ten conditions that have to be met that I think I would leave out for now since this is only the first competition)....one person would volunteer and send me a list of those prompts numbered in no particular order. Another person would volunteer and simply send me a number.....and whatever number they PM me would end up being the prompt used....simple enough? That way it's totally random.

Now another question if we do it this way is whether or not you would all be okay with me competing as well even though I posted all the prompts originally...I can assure you that I have nothing planned for any of them and even if the numbers were sent to me when it comes to choosing a prompt I would promise not to open the messages until I went to post the prompt for everyone.... I totally understand if you think it's unfair but I'd really like to compete :)

So let me know what you think about these things..

That sounds like a good method for picking the prompt. And I dont see how it would be wrong for you to compete too, it will be random in the end. And we trust you. ;) hehehe.

Go for it! B-) Sounds pretty random to me and I'm looking forward to see evrybody's stories, including yours.

That translating into I agree with my fellow above that I trust you.

I think picking the prompt that way will definitely be fair, especially since you're using two other people.

Glad to hear that I'm trusted...here's the list of possible prompts...

Phrase prompt - http://forum.fanfiction.net/topic/58994/18961957/1/

Crush prompt - http://forum.fanfiction.net/topic/58994/18962489/1/

Revelations prompt - http://forum.fanfiction.net/topic/58994/18962100/1/

Sickness prompt - http://forum.fanfiction.net/topic/58994/18961817/1/

Ok...so those are the four that will be chosen from randomly...there was another one that no ones responded to...but I made it really hard...there are like...ten requirements that are really random and I think it might be a bit much for a contest..at least for the first one....anyway, I need two volunteers! One to number them 1-4 and another to send me a random number...:)

I volunteer! This will be a nice break for me. For the past few weeks, and for the next week, i've been writing english essays left and right . Ick. I need to write something relaxing.

Anyway, either one, numbering or choosing, let me know!

I've never been in a contest before... in fact I've never even posted anything on FanFiction before. I'd love to give this a try - Immortals is one of my favorite book series ever! Daine and Numair all the way! Haha, but sign me up. I'd like to see what the prompt is. =)

Thanks!

Wow, 11 contestants! This is very exciting...I'm glad there was interest in it. Hmmm, when you post your submissions..(I know it's a bit off yet considering the prompt won't be released until Saturday..but still) you might want to consider adding at the beginning or the end that it's for a contest and see if you can get people to come and vote during the voting period..that way it won't just be us voting :)

anyway..yeah, I'm really excited that we have so many people so far...and there's still a week of sign-ups left so we might snag a few more ;)

I'm apologizing in advance guys and girls. . . Stories I write tend to take on tones from my mood at the time and, after the news that broke from Texas Thursday, I'm afraid my mood is a little on the sad side. I'll still be participating, but I can't promise my story wont have a sad little air to it.
