So I was just wondering what everyone thinks about the two upcoming Holmes movies?? I can't say that I'm exactly looking forward to the one with Will Ferrell as I've never really liked him, and to see him butchering Watson just isn't all that appealing. But the one with Robert Downey, Jr sounds like it might be good. Though I've never seen him in anything, does anyone know how he might be at playing Holmes?

I'm a bit leery of any new takes on our fav detective, but maybe just maybe might it turn out to be a good thing?? Looking for some hope here. :)

*moans* The LJ communities have been having a holy cow about those two things. You should check out the 221b_baker_street comm, V, because they've got all the articles posted there. Personally I think they're both doing their dead-level best to undo all the good that Brett and Clive Merrison have done for H&W.

I loved WIthout a Clue, but this comedic one sounds simply atrocious. And as to the other...Holmes as an action hero? The latest article says they're not even basing Holmes on Doyle, they're basing him on a comic book!

Oh dang, that stinks. I had no hope whatsoever for the comedy one, but was thinking just possibly the other might be semi-decent. I wouldn't mind the action part so much as long as they kept true to the character. I mean, Holmes could do action when necessary. Kinda like in you and PGF's stories. He does some fighting, him and Watson both, but it's more brainwork as is true to the Canon.

I read that they were basing it on both the Canon and the graphic novel by Lionel Wigram. But heck, if they just ignore the original altogether then it really will be hopeless.

But no one will ever outdo Jeremy, no matter what they do. :)

Well, that's good news if they're at least going to stab at the Canon. I'm all for a bit more action, but...if they leave the brainwork out it's half the fun, and we only have half the Holmes.

*sigh* all i've heard, and all i've read...implies that they're not doing anything close to the holmes we know. which is just sickening. just sickening. a friend of mine wrote a rant fic about it Vi, if you've seen it. ugh...... *goes to write real holmes stories*

*inspiration hits* we should all write a movie script for holmes and try to sell it, what do you say? some of the fics on this site would be great movies, and with some tweaking to make them more IC.... just a random thought.

Yes, I've always thought that Brother Noble or Vows would make INCREDIBLE films. We should all get together and write one. haha The massive collaboration in and of itself would be worth making a movie about!

i was thinking of 'vows' actually. it would need work to make it more canonical (from your lips KCS, you've not tried to make things canonical for a long time, so don't jump down my throat for that) but it's always been my very fave fic. what do you think, if a bunch of us put our two cents in, cleaned up some plot points a bit...? i smell money and royalties ;D

Oh my vids...my poor vids. I actually had another one almost finished, my best yet I think, it just needed a few finishing touches with time and stuff. Then my external harddrive decided to kill itself and now I've lost EVERY SINGLE episode I had on my computer. *sob* I have to go back and take them all off the DVDs again, but it's going to take forever. *sigh* Both those blasted movies will be out before I get it all done. And it's killing me cause I've got another vid idea already! Grr....Computers.
