KCSTotally agree with you, BC - that's why I love the old SH radio dramas better than most of the movies. Men like Basil Rathbone, Tom Conway, John Gielgud - they were trained in so much better diction than the people of today, even full Brits. I'm not foreseeing a good accent there at all with RDJ. |
Mysterywriter221If only he somehow manages to surprise us all... Oh well, not gonna happen. |
bcbdrumswilliam shatner! 8D *is shot* *is sleep deprived* (stage trained) i wonder if this movie will be received in england, because apparently some of them get annoyed when americans attempt a british accent. there are also many types of british accents, depending on what region you're from, etc. *sigh* yes, i'd say the odds are against this movie... |
Mysterywriter221I have noticed that a lot of British actors that attempt to do an American accent end up speaking very flatly. Unless they're doing a region specific accent like Southwestern or Boston. |
Mysterywriter221Oh God, I hope we don't have this to look foward to. http://humon.deviantart.com/art/Holmes-and-Watson-106307059 |
bcbdrumsi like that comic actually. the person has a point... you read the artist's description, right? |
Mysterywriter221Yeah but I still don't want to see it in the movie. Think of it. Short, scruffy Holmes clinging to Watson while being told to get a life. |
Mysterywriter221Only Chibis can make that work. |
bcbdrumsyep XD i don't think the script implies that level of insanity though... |
Mysterywriter221Not nearly. Has anyone leaked the script for the movie yet? |
bcbdrumsscroll up, it's here somewhere. |
Bowen CatesI can't find it!!! The script may not, but the movie certailny does. They've already maimed themselves beyond repair. |
Mysterywriter221Whilst trying to find the link to the leaked script I found KCS talking about her height. Don't worry. I'm only 5' 4" and I fall over in heels. |
Mysterywriter221I can't find it either. |
Bowen CatesI'm not worried, I'm actually quite okay with it. nothing like stepping up on stage and everyone thinking 'big sound? I don't think so...' then I open my mouth...tee hee. I hate high heels, used to wear them for dress up when I was little. Blundstones are the great love of my life.... And I'm pretty average for where I live. There arn't a lot of tall women here. Of course I wasn't born here, but I'm still pretty usual for the area in general. |
Mysterywriter221Found this. http://www.geektyrant.com/2008/11/guy-ritchies-sherlock-holmes-story-details-are-leaking-out/ |
KCSWent back and found the script link for you - don't get your hopes up, though. It swings from awesome!Watson to horrible!Holmes and everything in between. http://www.raindance.co.uk/site/picture/upload/image/books/Sherlock_Holmes.pdf |
Mysterywriter221Thanks! I take it you're a Steelers fan? |
KCSYup. :) *crosses fingers* What is so awesome is that my church had electrical failure tonight; something caught on fire in the wiring (no serious damage done, thank heaven, just a bit of smoke) and we had to evacuate the building - so it's the first superbowl ever that I've been able to see the kickoff! *goes back to watching game* |
bcbdrumslol...who would think a fire in a church would have a good result XD i'm a cowboys fan...i really only watch football when they're playing. or if my school team is playing of course... or the seahawks XD so i'm doing homework today...and hopefully some writing *looks at Kai* |
Mysterywriter221I have a big announcement! Mysterylover17 and I are adapting Murder in the Copper Mines for film! We can do better than professional screenwriters! |
Mysterywriter221I've noticed. There is no facebook group to discuss this on. We should make one. |
ScarletteQuillThat is a particularly good idea. |
Protector of the Gray FortressIs facebook the only place besides this we can discuss Holmes? only i've just had a newcomer ask me. And thats awesome! I loved the Copper Mines. And i'm rather curious what everyone thinks of the idea that new writers might pour in after the movie comes out. I've recently heard discussion about it in the real world which means its actually getting notice even here in redneck country. Any thoughts? |
KCSThere's Holmesian.net, and I know there are Yahoo groups somewhere, though I don't belong to any of them, where people can discuss Holmesworld. If the new writers target what looks like a pretty decent Watson and his relationship with Holmes, I like the idea (and judging from the script, angst ahoy!). What I'm dreading is all the people who want to fill in "missing scenes" with Holmes and Irene NORTON (because she WAS married, people, and very much in love. She wasn't Adler for but maybe ten minutes that Holmes saw her.). Ick. |
bcbdrumsthere are other places too... it's one of those things where you just have to surf til you find something good. i'm pretty prepared to give up hope on this new movie series, but...who knows? *crosses fingers* |
EyesOfGreyHolmesian.net is a wonderful place! I'm on there myself! They do, in fact, have a thread just for the new movie....check it out! http://www.holmesian.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=1264 that should take you there! Someone mentioned before that they were denied membership, and I can't understand why that would happen; I know that when I first joined, I thought that I had been denied, because I wasn't able to log in. Thankfully, I figured out why. When you sign up, you have your sign in name, and that's different than your screen name. So, for instance, if you sign up with your real name, 'Jane Doe' and your screen name is 'LadyGrace' or what-have-you, then when you sign in, you use your "Jane Doe" name....NOT your screen name! Also, there are several Yahoo Groups and whatnot... | #777 Feb 12th, 8:34am . Edited Feb 12th, 8:35am | |

EyesOfGreyactually, there is! http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/group.php?gid=2204606541 just click on 'Robert Downey Jr. to play Holmes, and there you are!! |
bcbdrumsmm, i'll try HN again. thanks for the info :) |
EyesOfGreydo that! It's a great place! Good luck; if you have any more trouble, don't hesitate to ask me for help! |
KCSAnyone that hasn't seen these clips yet might be interested. *shrug* I'm still nauseated by the idea of Holmes taking tea with Irene Adler, without his jacket - a social gaffe that never would have taken place in that era, besides the fact that it's just wrong for the two of them. But anyhow. http://www.mtv.com/movies/news/articles/1604911/story.jhtml |
KaizokuShojoTaking tea without his jacket? ...Did these people do ANY research whatsoEVER??? Eh...or is this supposed to be sort like Steampunk in the sense that it's set in Victorian times but bloody not like it. XD I forget, do they still have it set in '91 (which is not really possible)? |
bcbdrumsthat was actually boring... i didn't finish watching XD |
KCSHeaven only knows when it's set; they've already messed up the timeline royally. And I suppose we should be glad that both of them were clothed in that video, all things considered. Honestly. *shakes head* |
ScarletteQuillWhy does RJD constantly look like he has a wicked hangover?! Somebody tell me that. & it's a bit presumptious to place oneself's production over Granada. & why did they put Rathbone clips in but not Brett? Rachel's dress would have been slightly out of fashion by that time period. The color is too bright for daytime and the bustle wouldn't be so big for 91. Mark looks pretty good though. Better than I feared. Law seems to get it though (I'm hoping). Downey and I have separate definitions of 'ectomorphic'. Clips of the movie may or may not be shown during a closing montage at the Oscars. http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/article/oscar-telecast-sinks-even-lower I hope it gets in for curiosity's sake. |
KCSOh Dear Heaven. I was afraid of this. http://www.metronews.ca/halifax/entertainment/article/183007 Anyone else hear that creaking and moaning sound? It's Sir Arthur and all decent Sherlockians rolling in their resepctive graves. Not to mention the moral issues involved along with the Canon desecration. I think I'm going to go be sick now, brb. |
bcbdrumsdo i want to know? *clicks link* ........okay, i think i'll go die now -_-+++++ |
KaizokuShojo"Homoerotic"? ...."HOMOEROTIC"????????? *RESTRAINS SELF FROM SAYING UN-CHRISTIAN THINGS THROUGH GOOD SENSE AND GOOD FAITH* *long sigh* You know....I was not going to mention this....but seeing that actually made me cry. I don't even remember the last time I cried. I very, very rarely cry. But that....ugh...just disturbed and sickened me so much... I knew it was going to push sex on Holmes, but that they would say he has a homosexual relationship with Watson too? Can't anyone just be friends? To Hollywood, there is no agape love. Love must be conditional to them. It must be of the flesh, there is nothing higher to them. It's impossible to them that two men living together could be friends that would sacrifice themselves for one another and yet not have a sexual relationship. Just as it is impossible for them to believe a man would prefer to have brain-work than sex. He's a flippin' classic fictional character, people. If you want to have your fun by twisting them into something other than what they were, make your own characters. It's absurdly simple. Even badly-written smut sells well. Stop butchering our heroes... D: That, my dears, is my humble opinion. Blasted media. *posts before re-reading because she is stressed and tired* |
EyesOfGreyyou know.....I had a vague unsettling feeling that something like this would come about. It's the age we live in......is nothing sacred anymore????? Why do people take something innocent and beautiful and make it something vulgar????? Why??????????? I really have no words to describe how disgusted I am with this......*runs away and cries....* |
ScarletteQuillThat was certainly not something I wanted to see sick in bed. That wasn't something I wanted to see perfectly healthy. Theses people are idiotsk -pardon me-, and not just the modern definition of idiot. The medieval definition for someone mentally disabled. The quote from RDJ,- was a joke in the original interview. These Philistines are taking it completely out of context and building a faulty story around it. There's enough slash around here that I'm accustomed to the concept, but the (un)quality of that reporting makes me want to vomit when I already have a queasy stomach. Their facts were so disconnected, my high school English teacher would fail them on sight. I could write better fact articles in the eight grade. Cretins, the lot of 'em |
KaizokuShojoNobody knows how to write anymore...especially not in connection with Hollywood....it's all so messed up and crazy... Argh. X( |
bcbdrumsthis kept crossing my mind today... the perversion of society is so depressing, and terrifying..... i don't think there's anything anyone can do anymore. not on a large scale. each person can make an impact, but as a whole i think society is pretty much...done. it's terribly sad...but, my comfort comes in knowing that means that Jesus is coming back all the sooner. and that if i keep living for God, and trusting Him, that His will will be done concerning me and His kingdom. |
Mysterywriter221Wait. Will there be any homoerotica in the movie? *SPOILERS!!!!!!!* I don't remember anything like that in the script. |
KaizokuShojoI believe that it's a mixture of overblown words, bad interviewing/journalism, and perhaps they are going to subtly hint at a H/W relationship. |
bcbdrumsit makes me worry about the sequels.....DX |
KCS...And the fanfic... *facepalm* This could become so bad we could bottle it and sell it as an emetic, methinks. Sorry. *must think optimism* |
VHunter07Oh man..this is looking worse and worse every time we turn around! I really REALLY REALLY hope they're just flapping their gums and aren't really going to throw any of that trash in the actual movie. Of course, I don't know how much more horrific it can get, but that's going to far. *moan* I wish we were all super rich bagazillionaires and could pay them off never to release it. Then we could just do our own movie and say to heck with these losers. |
KCSI am hoping it was just that, Vi, just the usual movie gossip. I mean people have been slashing them for eons, and try to read it into every movie and pastiche out there, so probably that's all it is. At least definitely hoping that's the case. |
Mysterywriter221Hmm. Think optimism... We could bottle and sell the fanfic as an emetic, become rich that way, and use the money to make accurate movies. ...And ban RDJ from ever playing Sherlock Holmes again. |
KCS*cackles* And now, ladies and gentlemen, this program is brought to you by the makers of Ickfic, the one certain cure for a bad case of the fangirls (or boys, depending on the orientation of the film). Sorry, too much sugar tonight... |
