HilaireTopic: HGAFFC#3: The Art of Letting Go
Timeframe. Deadline for confirmation of pairing and participation: November 11, 2009 Start of submission: November 12, 2009 Last day of submission: January 7, 2010 Deadline for completion of entries: January 9, 2010. Start of voting period: January 14, 2010 End of voting period: January 21, 2010 Publication of HGAFFC Newsletter #3: January 24, 2010 Announcement of winners to un-subscribers: January 31, 2010 Challenge Requriements Since this is a new sort of challenge, there will be a different set of rules. 1. Interpret the following line: “They say that if you truly love a person, you will let that person go, no matter how much it hurts you.” The heart of your entry should present your interpretation of this statement. 2. It should be a two-shot, having a minimum of 3500 words for each part. 3. The two parts combined should have a maximum grand total of 18000 words. 4. The setting could be in an alternate universe (AU) BUT stick the canon personalities of the characters you’ll use. 5. The only pairings allowed are the following: RukaHotaru NatsumeMikan KokoSumire TsubasaMisaki Take note that there should be at least three entries to a particular pairing before it can be considered as a category. (I'll keep everyone posted if any of the given pairing wouldn't be considered.) 6. Only stories with rating K or K+ or T are accepted. 7. Include a letting go or breaking up scene in either part one or two of your entry. It is necessary that this scene be between the major characters involved in your story. 8. Crackfics are not allowed. If any of these requirements is not met, the file will be sent back to the participant. In such case, three days will be given for revisions. Failure to meet this deadline will mean withdrawal from the competition. Challenge Requirements (for part one). 1. It should discuss what and how the relationships between the characters are, and provide a convincing background on why they’re either letting go of each other or breaking up. 2. Complete the line I wish I could.... AND include it in either the dialogue or narration. 3. Likewise, include the statement Why shouldn’t I? in one of the characters’ dialogues. Challenge Requirements (for part two). 1. It should follow where the first part left off, and conclude the story. 2. At least one major character should shed tears for what has become of his/her relationship. 3. Include the line I told you not to let go in one of the characters’ dialogues. Participant Requirements. 1. Once you’ve decided to join, send me a PM about which pairing you'd like to write, and please establish a DocX connection with me. Do this before writing your entry. 2. Anonymity is a MUST. By taking the challenge you agree to NOT saying a word about your participation. The only one to know of you and your entry should be ME. 3. Do NOT submit at the last minute. 4. Keep the challenge account password to yourself. 5. Label the file you upload with your entry title. Other labels aren’t allowed. 6. Immediately delete your file after you’ve posted your story. 7. Follow only the given format uploaded in the challenge account. 8. Put HGAFFC#3 in the summary. 9. Add the challenge account to your author alert list. 10. Don’t mess with other people’s entries. Awards. Entries will be sorted out according to their pairings, so that if there will be enough entries for each, a total of twenty-four awards will be given away. 1. Most Original Fan Fiction. We don’t want cliché; we want something new – something with a brilliant twist that piques the thought: a story that is so unlike the usual ones posted in the archive. 2. Most Heartbreaking Fan Fiction. This is a story that left you tearful or completely made you cry. 3. Most Ingenious Title. This is a story with a title so remarkable that it sets itself apart from all others stories. 4. The Best Line. Pick the most intriguing, most creative take on the required line ‘I wish I could…’ This is for that simple line that expresses so much thoughts and emotions in a few words. 5. Most Original Interpretation. There’s only one line to interpret, and this is the story that wins it by the most unique take on it. 6. Best of the Best. This is for the story that simply renders everyone speechless with its genius. Announcement of Winners. Winning entries will be published in the HGAFFC Newsletter on January 20, 2010, and will be posted in the forums on January 31, 2010. Important Notes. 1. Stories will be posted under only ONE account. Everyone interested in reading and/or participating is encouraged to add Hilaire'sGAFFC Account to your author alert list. This will be used for posting the entries. 2. Uploaded in the account are the files containing the format that should be strictly followed. Note that there's a different format for each part. 3. Authors of all participating entries will only be disclosed during the announcement of winners. 4. Subscribe to the Official HGAFFC Newsletter to receive the results of and updates on the contest. 5. Subscribe to the Official HGAFFC Forums to receive updates on questions and discussions. Endorse the challenge!
