Ha, I'm a newbie to the fandom. I didn't know that there was a fandom until after I had started to write my fanfics and then I remembered my old FF.net account and found that... OMG, a fandom for Jade Empire exists?! NEAT! Anyway, this isn't the place to introduce myself... this is a place to talk about my favorite characters! Which is great, because I'm a severe character person.

Uh... my favorites are ALL of the followers? O_o I think all of them have amazing personalities and interesting back-stories... but my absolute favorites of the followers, for sure, Sky and the Black Whirlwind. Sky because he, uh, rocks, plain and simple, and BW because I think he is quite possibly the most interesting character of them all--I could play the Imperial Arena portion of the game over and over just to see the other side of him, that he's actually not a (relatively) bad man. And then there's Kang... as an aerospace engineering major, how could I NOT love him to bits? I also think Hou is delightful. I love the flavor Wild Flower/Chai Ka/Ya Zhen brings to the table, and I fell for Dawn Star the moment she and Silk Fox began their spats that are just amazingly hilarious to me. For instance, when choosing Dawn Star instead of Silk Fox at Dirge to defend Kang? HA! Love Dawn Star during that conversation when Silk Fox protests the PC's decision.

Okay, too much rambling on my part. I do that WAY too much. As far as the PC... well, I'm having a hard time going too far as any character but Wu. I tried the other female PCs, and while I like Jen Zi's starting style the best, I don't know... there's just something about Wu that makes it hard for me to get past the bandit attack for any other character. *lol*

Fave playable character: Definitely Radiant Jen Zi, she was the prettiest. I did like Scholar Ling's clothing better though.

Fave Follower: Definitely Zu, I wish he was romanceable! Sky just didn't do it for me, for some reason. I guess Zu was just manlier. haha But besides Zu, I would have to say Kang. He was hysterical.

Favorite bad guy: Hmmm...I don't know. I didn't really like any of the bad guys. I guess Grand Inquisitor Jia because her and her crusty old voice crack me up for some reason.

Favorite Arena Contestant: Sung Sui....lol.

Fave Two Rivers School Student: Either Kia Min or Lin.

Grand Inquisitor Jia cracked me up as well. And I've played this game from start to finish loadsa times, so when it gets to the bit were she does her little speech, you can't skip it and it really annoys me :/ LOOL!

Kang was amazing. Too funny. But I did think Sky and Zu were pretty good too. I couldn't decide so I went for Black Whirlwind (LOOOOL) joking!

I thought that Wu was the prettiest and had the best costume - but there was a fiesty-ness about Jen Zi that caught me, and Scholar Ling's starting style is the absolute best, her martial arts style, Thousant Cuts, really is THE BEST!! It makes you feel like you're really hurting your enemy, even though it causes just as much damage as Legendary Strike!

So . . . yeah. As for the Area - all I have to say is that I always got confused between Lucky Cho (or whatever he's called) and Iron Soldier. Heh. Funny.

Yeah, I know. That happened to me too the first 2 play-throughs or so. Maybe Luck Cho and Iron Soldier have the same voice actors? I would have to play through again to be sure.

Fave playable character: Radiant Jen Zi, I love the haircut! Though I change her name into something else. Just to be uniqe.

Fave Follower: Kang. No competition. He's funny, mad, and he has a super mission regarding some lost memories... *snicker* I love that kinf of things. Espeially if it isn't the PC. 2nd is Henpecked Hou I think I must say. I find his history interesting, with his wife and all other things. Too bad he becomes angry if you pry too much. Me: I was just wondering...!

Favorite bad guy: Hmm... Bad guy? Death's Hand I belive. I don't think he was all that much, but he was definitely the best (what I think). And he was the one who aged but didn't look any older! Ha! In your face Jia! XD

Favorite Arena Contestant: Hapless Han, the big happy idiot! He has a positive attitude! 2nd is Khana. ^^

Fave Two Rivers School Student: Gao the Lesser. Sorry, but I don't think the others are so interesting.... ^^

Death Hand is mine, too. If I ever write a story with a bad guy, he has to be as scary and as ruthless as Death's Hand

At some point, I must also have wished that, but I can't remember... I wish he wouldve invented an Ak-47 or something XD But he didn't... So now when I'm playing it yet again (...) I'm bringing Henpecked Hou with me, so I can hear all his sour, funny, I-hate-my-wife-comments and Everybody-Is-MAD-rants ;D But if you have him with you, be careful to not pick up the bottles. Does anyone else like Hou?? I feel kinda lonely over here, in Hou-town... :P

How many times have you played through the whole game? Im working on my 4th time i think... Has your view of the characters changed anything at all? Or is it completely something else?

I've always liked Kang (YEAH!), but Hou got on my fav list during the 2nd I vaugely remember... Seeing as I couldn't very much english by then, I guess I couldn't appreciate what everyone said and thereby not notice their genious!

Yes. I remember I didn't like the Black Whirlwind the first time I played, but then I made him follow me once, and I love how he helps you trash talk people before a fight! It's so funny. Also, the first time I played through I never even suspected that about Master Li, so the second play through I was able to see suspicious things that I never noticed before. What about you?

Hou and Kang are definitely two of the funniest!

I started as OP played as OP a few games, then I've done CF a few times just to see what happens, and I've done the neutral ending once.

Oh good, I was starting to think I was wierd for playing a game for the 4th time. But now I guess I don't think it's wierd to play a wonderful game a few times during one lifetime.

He does? Sad to say, but I don't think I've never had him with me. I'm going mostly for Dawn Star, Zu, Sky, Wild Flower and Silk Fox for reasons I don't know. But now I might play with him... (lol. Picture Black Whirlwind playing a game. Rope skipping. XD But he might be good for american football) Don't know where that came from but hey- it was a fun thing to pop up in my head.

The first time, I swallowed everything Master Li said, just like that. He said it, therefor it must be true. xD I was "What is he doing?!!!" when he killed the PC. Yes, now when I know what he means with everything strange he said, it gets somewhat guessable what's going to happen.

I did the neutral once, but when he laughed at the end, I was "You laughed at me!! Now I'll LOAD and kick ur **!" Because I'm strange like that. (And I'm proud of it)

Why is Zu your favourite follower? :O Besides being manlier ;) I think he's too un-kind to the PC

I remember Hou going up a notch when I read a piece of Bridge of Birds. Do you know of that book?

Haha! I was starting to think I was weird too, I guess if we enjoy it. Why not play it through? I think the reason I still like playing it is I'm still discovering parts of the game that I missed before, so it adds to the replay-ability.

I've only had him with me from the Lotus Assassin Fortress on and he does some serious trash talking. It's pretty hilarious.

I know, I was so confused when he killed me!! I had thought it was the end of the game. But then playing it through again, I think it would have been possible to guess.

I know!! Me too! I did the same thing after the neutral ending. It ticked me off! lol

I like Zu because he saves your life near the end, and he is reliable in general. I think if the game wasn't mostly geared towards a male PC he would be nicer, because he is really nice and protective to Dawn Star.

It seems like there is no end to different things you can discover, like in different quests.

I guess I would have liked Zu alot better, if he was a little nicer. But since there aren't any options that you can respond with that agrees with what he says he is just almost rude to you...

The book The Bridge of Birds is a book, about a man named Li Kao and he is called by some dead spirit to find stuff, and he meets some interesting people. He is a thief I shoul also mention. The reason Henpecked Hou was raised a few notches was because I suspect his character is strongly influenced by Henpecked Ho, which is in that book :D And he is really cool, I think! [SPOILER] He teaches Li Kao to see ghosts, and he also has a very troubling wife. But the only difference is that he did something about it (which you'll learn in the later chapters of the book).[/SPOILER] I think every JE fan would enjoy it to some point, because there are some other things that can relate to JE. Remember Old Mother Kwan, the tea house owner? There is a mention of Old Mother Wan in the book and also about an old man called Miser Shen, almost like Minister Sheng. And there is Bright Star and the the Bamboo Dragonfly. I didn't notice in the beginning though, but now I can see some JE stuff. I could go on for a very long time, but I don't want to spoil the book for everyone.

If you want to read it, there is a great way to find it. I was surprised myself. Just google "Bridge of Birds" and it will come up as a pdf document a few options down :D All hail the internet.

That book sounds cool!! I've heard that they got a lot of their inspiration from several things in Chinese history and mythology.

Yes, and it's only 114 pages long so it won't take so long to read :) But it seemed as if it was really long... I just finished it yesterday.

It's kinda hard getting started, it was for me... The stories did not turn out good. Though it went okay I guess later on, when I learned how to write good. Practice is THE WAY. lol (The way of the closed fist, the way of the open palm and the way of practice!!). Which fandom are having fanfiction ideas for? :O

I've written one more story for JE, but it's nothing that I had much thought into. I wrote it when I was tried. An attempt at a funny fic :O... I've written one for Kung Fu Panda that's pretty good íf I may say so myself, and a few for Naruto, but I haven't completed them yet. Still working on it. :)

Hmm, but wasn't that beasue he didn't like Kai Lan? The only way I can imagine him helping someone was because he would get wine or something, if it was someone he didn't know. I don't think he concider himself as 'friends' with anyone from the adventure, I don't know why, I just get that feeling. More like aquaintances? Though if he's drunk then he might help them... lol. I was wondering because I'm working on a fic and I didn't know if he's helpful. So I just made him maddingly drunk instead xD What do you think? But it is true as you say. He can be unpredictable :P

I love/like/adore Silk Fox because she's just like me. Everything that she said, i said it too. Weird as hell, but Silk Fox is a playable version of myself. Also, i love how the character evolves during the game (Especially with the OP ending) She's an amazing empress. And her outfits are awesome. ^^

Yeah, Jia is really scary, but the most awful bad guy, for me is: Sun Li. I mean, come on! When they guy betrays you is such a plot twist! It's pretty unexpected. ;)

In the sequel, if it's placed in Phoenix Gate, Crimson Khana should make a cameo or a bigger role. What do you guys think?

I really hope that there is a sequel!! I think it would be awesome if it took place in Phoenix Gate. That is one thing I never liked about Jade Empire, how there were so few places to travel. Also, no new outfits! But yes, I think it would be cool if Crimson Khana made an appearance in the sequel.

As for how Jia got that ugly....hurr momma maybe?! I don't know, but she is really, really, ugly. Somehow, her ugliness makes her worse than Sun Li for me. Plus, her voice is really gross sounding. lol!

Ooo KOTOR! I'm playing through that right now. I'm at the part where I'm on Dantooine. For some reason I never got past Tatooine on my first playthrough. I just sort of stopped playing, but now I am at it again!

I love the idea of the sequel in Phoenix Gate! After the first game, a few months or something, maybe years. That was where Hou was champion also, I'd like to see a small cameo, like a text that's mentioning him or something. Or that you see him (because he ran away in the OP ending).. Though I hope the character designers will do something about the cosutmes for the PCs. Most of them were kinda ugly I think...... And Sir Roderick von somethingbottom the Magnificent Bastard! He must be there!! lol.

Whenever I think of Jia, I get this sentence in my head. "Live or die the will of the Emperor be done!" It's kinda catchy ;P

I liked the Female PC's outfits, but the Male Characters (Except Ming) didn't had good outfits.

I think that it should be the OP, because else all the followers would die. But it all depends on what the story would be. Like, uh, spirits are returning from the other side again and you are the last of the Ghostbuster clan or something... :)

Or you could have an option in the beginning of the game and choose which. Or some crazy ** could happen, like Phoenix Gate being accidantally built on those floating rocks and now was activated and flown to space or orbiting the world, that with help of Kang the mad is now an international airport of some sort and then the PC is contacted by a random heaven or the spirits of the followers (if in CF) and must do something to make something happen...Like opening a gateway to the past to either kill the JE PC or save the spirit monks.... assuming Phoenix Gate was build on floating rocks. Lol.

It's much easier to make a sequel of the OP ending... The lotus assassins are still there, and they want to do stuff. ... Like revenge... 8D

The spirits of the past followers telling the new PC to kill the evil emperor/empress (The JE PC)? That sounds awesome!

But i like the OP ending, because in some dialogs someone could say: "Have you heard about the last spirit monk saving the Jade Empire?" Or something like that.

Some Examples (That show that i can't be a dialog writer for this game...Seriously xD):

"There's less Slavery in Imperial City and the Jade Empire, some people say that it's because the new leader of the Guilt"

"Have you heard about the new Empress? She's leading the empire in a new golden age"

"I heard about this warrior of the Jade Empire, She/He looks a lot like you...In a way"

Yeah, I just prefer characters that people want to play not just because they wear little clothes. :P

Yes, awesome it is! They'd be ** alright! I hope sometime in the future the people at Bioware will have 'writers block' and look back at the other games and make that effin sequel! :D If not, I'll haunt them! (I'm clearly getting tired, if someone hasn't noticed :P)

Not really, if you look at the dialogues in the game, it's not very complicated lines they have. Pretty good.

Omg, I just thought of how the moment when JE PC is killed and the ghost of the followers come and are happy and can go to rest! OR when JE2 PC take over JE PCs throne and the ghosts are sad and angry and stuff... They'd try to kill him/her.

Man, you guys are making me want to go back and replay the game! Does anyone find their preferences for characters changing over time? My first play through I could hardly go anywhere without Sky or Zu (good focus boosts). I'm thinking maybe I should switch to Black Whirlwind now -- he sounds more fun. :)

My preferences for the characters have definitely changed over the past year or so. Wu is still my girl, but I enjoy playing Ming a whole lot more nowadays... probably for the CF Sky romance, which is my real OTP of the game. Also, I have decided that Kia Min should have been a follower. You know how in KOTOR Juhani may or may not have become a follower based on whether or not you killed her? Same thing with Kia Min. She'd have been SO AWESOME. 3 And while I still love Sky and the Black Whirlwind, Zu is more and more becoming a "forbidden romance" for me. Except not really forbidden except by decree of Bioware. Which fanfiction is good at defying anyway. *lol*

Replay it! I want to buy the PC version and play it again. Two years is a long time, y'know? hahaha.

The first time i played the game i used Dawn Star all the time, until Silk Fox came and i used her the rest of the game (I fell in love xD). This became a rutine, until i used Sky (When i planed to do the romance quest) and heard one of the best dialogs between characters. xD

Black Whirlwind: Well, you, me, and the pretty boy. You must be wealthy to have your own eunuch.

Sky: Ha! You're going to fit right in. You must like to dice, correct?

Black Whirlwind: Sure! Can't say as I'm very good at it, I can never remember the rules...

Sky: Perfect. Absolutely perfect.

I haven't played Jade Empire for a few years and am ashamed to admit that I've drifted away from the game and fanfic. Due to a few prompts here and there, I've recently come to appreciate the Water Dragon more. She has an imposing design in both her incarnations, from the beautiful otherworldly lady to the lithe, majestic dragon. Seeing her true form slashed open and pinned against the wall like some grotesque exhibit evoked sadness in me. It was one of the most emotional moments in the game. I love how she was detached (in a warm way), but at the same time understanding and compassionate towards mortals, even those who hurt her. Jocelyn Ahlf did a brilliant job of portraying a calm, wise entity; she conveyed that feeling of having lived for an eternity.
