Just a plot-bunny floating around that I don't have the time nor inspiration to write at the moment.

Do whatever you want with the title, characterizations, etc. I don't care much for pairings, so again, do as you wish. Also, have fun twisting the plot up.

General Idea: This is generally an AU plot-bunny centered on the development of Zuko's character and his destiny as he struggles with who he was and who he is meant to be.

In the years following the disappearance of the Avatar and the outbreak of the War, a Priest from the Fire Temple passes on a prophecy in the name of the Goddess Agni. The Prophecy is recorded on a scroll and sent to the palace. The Fire Lord of the time realized the threat to his empire, thus scouring his country for the "Child of Agni," whom he intends to either kill (most likely), or raise in isolation from the outside world. The prophecy also sparks the tradition of "Hunting Dragons for Glory," the actual reason was to prevent the prophecy from coming true.

As the search for both the "Phoenix Prince" and the "Avatar" proved fruitless, the scroll containing the prophecy was cast aside and forgotten over the years. However, later the scroll is rediscovered by someone who gives it to Ozai when news of the Avatar's return hits Fire Nation. Ozai at first disregards the prophecy. But certain things he comes across (eg. Agni's symbol, what the Day of the Sun is, who is descended from a past avatar, etc. ), make him take another look at it. He realizes the danger he is in and orders for the "Phoenix Prince" and the "Avatar" to be eliminated at all costs.

A child carrying the blood of the Avatar

Shall be born on the day of the Sun.

The Usurper shall brand the child with the symbol of Agni,

marking him the Phoenix Prince.

Under the guidance of the Western Dragon,

With pain and suffering as his teachers,

the boy will learn to respect balance and life.

So shall the phoenix be reborn.

Most beloved of Agni's children,

The Phoenix Prince shall pass to the Avatar

the gifts of Fire and Friendship.

Together they will defeat the Usurper,

and thus end the Century's War.

The Phoenix Prince shall be crowned Lord of Fire,

and with the Avatar, he shall lead the world

into a golden age of with peace and prosperity,

Restoring the honor of Lady Sun and her children

Thus is the the will of Agni.

Child carrying the blood of the Avatar = Descendent of a past Avatar (Who do we know could possibly be descended from a past avatar? Hint: Book of Fire, Chapter 6)

Day of the Sun = Summer Solstice

Usurper = A person who seized and holds a position of power either by force or without legal right; (Hints: Book 2, Chapter 7 & Book 3, Chapter 11)

Brand = A mark made by burning or otherwise; a mark of disgrace (Who do we know has a burn/scar that they see as a mark of disgrace/dishonor. Hints: Book 1, Chapter 12 )

Symbol of Agni = Happens to be the same shape & color of a certain someone's scar (hint hint)

Western Dragon = Hmmmm... Who do we happen to know as the "Dragon of the West"? (Hint: Book 2, Chapter 20)

Pain & Suffering as his teachers = Seeing/Hearing of firenation's cruelty (eg. Song, Lee, Katara, Jet etc.) and realizing the importance of balance. (Hint: Book 1, Chapter 12)

Phoenix Reborn = A new path in life or enlightenment and all that jazz, you know what I mean.

Lady Sun and her children = The Goddess Agni and the people of Fire Nation.

The rest of the prophecy should be self-explanatory... I hope...
