0o Moon Calf o0Topic: Yue and Sakura
I can't believe no one's posted this one yet! It's one of the more popular pairings right now! I LOVE this pairing, and really think that there should be more YxS fics out there. If you do the math, Yue x Sakura fics make up less than 1% of all the CCS fic on this site, it's tragic! I think this pairing has real grounds in the series, and needs to be a lot more widley spread. Anyone got any comments? | #1 Jan 07th 2008, 7:52am . Edited Jun 22nd 2008, 12:42pm

Dark QiviutI think this pairing has real grounds in the series, and needs to be a lot more widley spread. Anyone got any comments? I don't think the Yukura fics should be *that* commonplace. Then we'll eventually complain about the lack of Sakaoran (Sakura/Syaoran) fics popping up. :P Speaking of Yukura, I like it, too. Yue's straightforward personality, to me, works well with Sakura's, who's naive -- at the end of the canon -- yet has a strong sense of justice. |

night-owl269i like this pairing a lot. ever since i read "i need you for more than a life time" sakura/yue is a major pairing.| #3 Jan 26th 2008, 11:28pm

saphirablossomYue/Sakura for me is something I might read, as the stories must be far better in plot construction than the large majority of the recent Sakura/Syaoran fics that are popping up. I'm quite disappointed with the way people are dealing with SxS, but that's beside the point.Yue might like Sakura, because thanks to Moon Calf's statement back in Pet Peeves, I've looked back to the manga and noticed that, indeed, Yue grows very fond of Sakura as the series goes on, but then again, he also grows fond of Toya. Yue/Sakura seems rather interesting. |
0o Moon Calf o0YxS is actually considered by some to be cannon if it's one-sided, because in the Japanese version of the manga, there's this one line said by Eriol after he asks Yue how he feels about Sakura: "And for Yue that means 'daisuki'" (Vol. 12, ch. 1, pg. 15). In Japanese, when the word 'daisuki' is used by itself like that, it is a confession of love of affection. It's quite an interesting pairing, not to mention it's the only real chance poor Yue has. CLAMP neatly shot down the Toya x Yue pairing with a line in volume 9 when Eriol says to Yue (who's unconscious) "It's too bad that your false form and your true form's hearts are different. But your different feelings will develop." (Vol. 9, Ch. 3, Pg. 18) implying that while Yukito is falling for Toya, he's alone in that endeavor. |

0o Moon Calf o0O_O why did that post twice? |
saphirablossomAh, yes the cursed double-post!! lol ^^I suppose I can trust you on this one Moon, as I myself can't read Japanese ( though I wish I could! ) Yue, in that case, has feelings for Sakura that he can't express, as he knows about Syaoran's feelings and most likely doesn't feel the need to interfere. As far as Toya is concerned, I do recall in volume 8, that when Yue tells Syaoran that he needs to calm down and he will see who he truly loves, he also says, "It'd be nice if Yukito also thought about it." I can only guess this confirms your point? |
0o Moon Calf o0@ saphirablossom:O_O Wow, I actually don't remember that line. I must have been writing fan fics too long, I'm forgetting the series they stem from! You said it was in volume 8, do you know what page? (I feel like such an idiot) | #9 Mar 21st 2008, 10:55am

0o Moon Calf o0Yes, unfortunetly SxS still rules the world (and the SxS fics aren't too good right now). there's less than 200 YxS fics on the whole site, but that's a greater percentage than numerous other pairings. | #11 Jun 03rd 2008, 9:41am

The Hand of DestinyHmm...I am an S+S fan but strangely I like S+Y too. I mean come on Yue is soooo Cool. He's the pretty boy of pretty boys. In my fic CCS: The Golden Age , I plan explore this one sided relationship... | #12 Jun 21st 2008, 2:44pm

0o Moon Calf o0I almost think it works better one-sided. Sometimes two-aided fics can go really OOC, they tend to either: kill Syaoran, make him a big jerk, or make Yue OOC and way too expressive at the wrong times. It almost disgraces the pairing, because you can write YxS into a fic without all that and still have it legitimate. Some translators even go as far as considering one-sided YxS somewhat cannon because of some tricky, highly ambiguous phrases thrown out, in the last three volumes especially. | #13 Jun 22nd 2008, 12:41pm

0o Moon Calf o0Has anyone else noticed the recent disappearance of YxS fics? A few months ago everyone was writing new fics, and updating their old of this pairing, now I go onto the just in page or my all YxS C2 community to check for updates, and all is still. Where did all the YxS go? Get back to writing, everybody! | #14 Aug 14th 2008, 8:53am

0o Moon Calf o0OK, I am now officialy talking ot myself (since both the last two posts were mine) but this is really starting to bug me! WHERE DID ALL THE YxS FICS GO!? There's now officialy only 2 writers regularly updadting YxS fics: Tifa Strifeheart and ExcaliburShark 7, with 3 and 1 fics respectivly. Does no one care about writing anymore!? Not that I've got a problem with the SxS pairing either, but latly that's all anyone's been writing and truth be told, the quality is becomming less and less. I have half a mind to write a new YxS one-shot myself! Just to get SOEMONE else writing! This has been a short rant by Moony. | #15 Dec 19th 2008, 7:50am

midnight-dreary12I don't think its that no one cares. Personally, life gets in the way. ='( I dropped off of FF.NET, just got back on. Wowee, i was terrified by what i saw too. (aka my fics) Tee hee. I do hope to see more Yukura fics. I (heart) them. Ja | #16 Jan 29th, 3:51am . Edited Jan 29th, 3:53am

0o Moon Calf o0Well, yes, I suppose you're right, Midnight-dreary: there are people that care... it just seems that everyone dropped off the face of FF at one time :P. I suppose I'm not happy unless I have something to complain about; a year ago everyone was pestering all the YxS writers about 'being too out of character', but now I'd just like to see someone working! :) I can't really talk, I've recently undertaken a huge project where fics are concerned that's not YxS for once (shocking, ne?), and I haven't been working on anything else lately either. You shouldn't worry about your fics so much, Midnight-dreary, you care a lot more than most of the writers on this site at the moment, and that alone is enough to warrant a medal anymore! I think the community will pick back up again, a lot of people are starting to get sick of the monotonous poorly-written AU SxS fics currently circulating. Hopefully things will get better. Zettai daijoubu, ne? |

midnight-dreary12True true. Yes, I'd have to admit I did ditch FF.NET for a long time. *shame on me!* How I do love YXS and writing about them. it is a compelling couple to me. tee hee. it is too bad that no one really writes a lot. I don't even read SXS unless there are good reviews anymore. Poo. I guess thats mean huh? Thank you for bein' so nice about my fics. I'm pretty proud of them--even if they aren't five-star ratings lol. | #18 Feb 03rd, 9:05am . Edited Feb 03rd, 9:07am

0o Moon Calf o0I don't even read SXS unless there are good reviews anymore. :P I know what you mean. I don't read them anymore either, haven't for years. I might skim through one or two if it's really good, but for the most part, I could care less about SxS (especially the quality we're seeing at the moment). Of course, try and be neutral-minded and not talk about that too much around here on the forums; people sometimes still get mad if you say you don't care for SxS. I was always kind of bored with that pairing, though; even when I read the manga I found SxS rather uneventful. I followed it at first because it was cannon, but after about a year I realized all of the lovely YxS undertones the series presented (which I found a much more interesting prospect), and I've supported YxS since. That was... eight or nine years ago... (I've been doing this too long.) |
Convoy ButterflyI don't even read SXS unless there are good reviews anymore. Define "good reviews". Most of the time, just writing Sakura/Syaoran is enough to get a bunch of glowing reviews, even if the plotting is terrible, the characters don't resemble themselves at all, and the English language butchering makes it unreadable. |
0o Moon Calf o0 Most of the time, just writing Sakura/Syaoran is enough to get a bunch of glowing reviews Unfortunately you're right, and that's the problem currently. It's driving me crazy how poor the quality of fics has dropped in later years. All the CCS fics out there seem to be bad and very immaturely written SxS fics, it's quite sad. I think she means, however, that even the current low of fic quality we're experiencing right now, the word still gets out among those of us who do care about decent fics which transcend those normally found on the 'just in' page, in any shipping group. |
midnight-dreary12You both have a valid point. The reviews are often given just for the sake of giving them. I usually look to see who reviewed. :D I dont know many people on here, but if there are some I recognize from other stories I personally enjoyed then well, I'll give it a shot. Not sayin that I've even really read much SXS anyway. I dont really like the pairing. *hides* Those "glowing" reviews you speak of are so annoying.. Every once in awhile you'll get someone who actually tells you something useful. I wish more people did. |
saphirablossom*Finally resurfaces from who knows where... XD* Just to say that I agree with midnight-dreary12 on the whole 'reviewing just for the sake of reviewing' issue. I've had personal experience in the domain (like a lot of people, I assume) and I know how annoying it is, especially for the author of the story, to get reviews like 'Cool story, can't wait 4 ur update!' Of course, it's nice to be told that people like reading your story, don't get me wrong, it's just that as an author, you expect them to tell you something more along the lines of constructive criticism or at least something deeper. In the case of SxS, I'd say people review just because of the pairing, not the story, which makes a lot of the reviews pretty much useless compared to the ones you get with stories that involve less popular pairings, like Yue/Sakura or Eriol/Kaho, or basically any pairing that isn't SxS or ExT, since I think ExT stories also suffer from a lack of consisting reviews. Too bad the 'glowing' reviews have pretty much contaminated every fandom in existence, and from what I've seen, it seems to be the shounen-ai fandoms that are suffering the most. The fan-girling there is probably just as bad, and maybe even worse than what people here do for SxS. T.T |
0o Moon Calf o0*doesn't dare comment on resurfacing out of nowhere XP* Yes, Saphirablossom makes a good point there. Perhaps one of the reasons that pairings like SxS and ExT are going down the toilet are the glowing reviews they receive. I mean, it's an unfortunate truth sometimes that if no one ever gives you constructive criticism (or constructive anything for that matter), you're never going to improve much as a writer. I must say, though, I think the main part of the problem is that the majority of SxS and ExT writers are really young! Of course fan fiction in general is dominated mainly by young people, but I swear, when it comes to the most 'cannon'--or perhaps 'obvious' and 'popular' are better words--many of the writers will be inexperienced kids between 11 and 13 who have perhaps seen a few episodes of the show/ read part of the manga. All that's sparing the other pairings, I think, is that many--YxS, CxY, TYY, etc.--require a more in-depth look at the series in question that a shallow pre-teen reader might get in a quick skim. That alone is sparing the less common pairings like YxS. Though, I suppose the lack of quality isn't solely reserved for SxS and the like anymore, I must admit, I've seen plenty of bad YxS fics lately too. (makes me so sad) Another thing that's really bugging me is the number of young and less involved fan fiction readers who are contributing the useless reviews. Poorly write SxS and ExT is becoming so popular that now the fandom is littered with immature 'fan girls' and 'fan boys' who seem to care little for writing, quality, style, and are unconcerned with any of the original or insightful fics or fandoms out there. I almost find myself starting to wish for some of those shallow reviews just so I could say someone was reading my fic! :( I know plenty of other dedicated authors too complaining of the same thing. It's just terrible, the way things are becoming! But while we're on the subject of the 'popular pairings', I have to ask the room at large: what was it that made you switch from shipping thins like SxS top YxS or any other unusual pairings you may ship? |
saphirablossomI agree with Moon Calf on the whole "young" fan fiction writers. I mean, everyone can give writing a shot, it's the only way to get better after all. But when they write something that has no actually value, it can only get rather annoying since those people actually want the glowing reviews. And they don't accept any kind of constructive criticism either, which is completely pointless considering that's the actual point of reviews. And I think the actual readers are just looking for some kind of sappy romance that doesn't demand too much And now, for something completely different... (XD, sorry, I just had to do that...) I have to ask the room at large: what was it that made you switch from shipping thins like SxS top YxS or any other unusual pairings you may ship? I don't know if my case really counts considering I temporarily "disappeared" from the fandom all together, but there actually is a reason for that. I've always shipped SxS, since I like the pairing and I can see all the potential it's got, so I naturally went through all the fics that concerned the pairing. And after a while, I took a real look at what was really there, and all I saw were AUs that usually talked about the same cliche high school romances that everyone's read thousands of times, I just got tired of it. That's what pushed me to go out and buy some other manga series, and voila! I quite literally got sucked into various fandoms, like the "Prince of Tennis" where I learned that the yaoi fan-girls can be even worse, if that's even possible... So, in basic, I let go of SxS for lack satisfying reading material. And oddly enough, coming back into the fandom now, I've actually got the want to go and read some of the more neglected pairings, like YxS. But CLAMP started drawing me back towards SxS and got me badly into KuroganexFai *Damned you CLAMP with your twisting Tsubasa plot that draws in unsuspecting fans!! XD* |
0o Moon Calf o0I mean, everyone can give writing a shot, it's the only way to get better after all. That's a good point. I suppose all of us had to start somewhere too, and I know I at least was not too good a writer when I started off. (was much *shorter* then) :P The real difference I'm seeing now, though, is all of these people who don't care about their writing (whether it's on topic, in character, related to the storyline they're writing for, etc.), and don't even respect the original work that their fic is 'about' (and in the case of some, I use that term lightly). No one's perfect when they're just learning--heck, I'd probably say that most of us aren't 'perfect' now--the difference is whether you care about what you're doing, or it just seemed 'fun' and 'cool' to write a bad fanfic (which often has nothing to do with the parent series) and post it on the internet. I've always shipped SxS, Actually, I shipped SxS for a while too, though most people don't know that (I think I'm becoming branded as an odd shipper). I mean, SxS is cannon, it's the major relationship built up through the entire second arc, who wouldn't support SxS after finishing the series. I was always kind of bored with the idea of Sakura and Syaoran, though, I just never thought 'Oh yeah, there's a good couple. I guess I just never saw any real sparks, but it was cannon, so I supported it. I think one of the reasons I accepted it was one of my favorite sub-plots of the first arc was Syaoran going from hating Sakura to becoming good friends and equals with her, incidentally, my favorite back-story of arc #2 was when Sakura landed in the same situation with Yue. Anyway, my ship changed when I read the manga in its original Japanese for the first time, and not the Tokyopop translation. I realized that Eriol tells Yue in vol. 9 that "It's a complication [in his plan] that [Yue's] true form and false form's hearts are different', but that 'different feelings are developing [for each of them]'. I thought that was odd, and remembering his line at the end of the series 'I thought because you were his true form, with Sakura-san as your master, she would become Yukito’s number one. And I also thought that Sakura would probably love Yukito forever.' I put 2 and 2 together. If Yue couldn't love Touya because he and Yuki were having 'different feelings', and Eriol foresaw *Yuki* falling in love with Sakura, but believed that Yuki was really Yue in soul... Needless to say, I've shipped YxS ever since. And I actualy like it better (don't want poor Yue to be all alone!) :) Ohh! By the way, has anyone noticed this irony? We're on a CCS board, but all three of us--Saphirablossom, Midnight Dreary and myself--are all sporting TRC avvies! XP | #26 Mar 10th, 4:08pm . Edited Mar 10th, 4:10pm

saphirablossom...don't even respect the original work that their fic is 'about' (and in the case of some, I use that term lightly). I can't help but agree with that bit. Obviously, some people believe that it doesn't really matter what their story and their characters portray as, and in what context, so long as the names of the two main characters are mentioned (meaning Sakura and Syaoran as far as they're concerned). Quite honestly, when it comes to the AUs especially, some of the stories should be posted as original fiction. I mean, I have read a few whose plots looked interesting enough, and while a couple were entirely satisfying on a literary/plot point of view, they just didn't belong in the CCS section because they didn't have anything to do with CCS, whether it be with the plot or the overall characters. Because I think that the only thing that can get even worse than those cliched AU plots is OOCness. Now that really gets me riled up, because you get the feeling that you're not even in the fandom anymore! That's part of the reason why lots of ExT fics are unreadable in my eyes: Eriol's awesomely complicated character is turned into something awful every time! SxS is cannon, it's the major relationship built up through the entire second arc, who wouldn't support SxS after finishing the series Not many people wouldn't, or at least I don't think they would anyway. But I think that works with pretty much any series where the main pairing is developed as a crucial plot point. Take Fruits Basket for instance (yes, it's very off topic, but it's the only one that fits the example that came to my mind XD). By the end of the series, I think lots of people have become big time Tohru/Kyo shippers, which should be normal since the pairing sort of grows with each passing chapter. But, for some reason, I was never the biggest fan. So I started shipping the pairing kind of established at the beginning, which would be Tohru/Yuki. I guess some people at first follow the main flow, but drift off as soon as they see that there's something better. But I think every mangaka wants us to end up loving the pairing they themselves must cherish, and so lead us to that point at the end of a series. Not to mention CLAMP has the knack of doing it just right every time! We're on a CCS board, but all three of us--Saphirablossom, Midnight Dreary and myself--are all sporting TRC avvies! XP I think pretty much everyone had gotten into the TRC fever at this point, especially seeing where CLAMP is going with it! I won't reveal any type of big spoilers just in case, but CLAMP does give CCS a crucial role to play in TRC's plot, even though I was a bit disappointed to find out what CLAMP had really done to their "holiest" series yet XD. And here I was thinking CCS would remain untouched! Though I must admit, I'm actually more attached to Fai (and Kurogane a bit aswell) than to Sakura and Syaoran. I'm not sure if it's just getting old, or if it's CLAMP creating more endearing characters eachtime, but that's how I feel about it anyway. |
Convoy ButterflyCLAMP does give CCS a crucial role to play in TRC's plot, even though I was a bit disappointed to find out what CLAMP had really done to their "holiest" series yet Not to give away more big spoilers, but CCS actually doesn't play as critical a role, and the ending of CCS hasn't been turned upside down. CLAMP was trolling all of us with the big parentage reveal, and chapter 217 is when they revealed the trolling. |
0o Moon Calf o0chapter 217 is when they revealed the trolling. Yes, thankfully, I was so happy when I read that plot twist. :) Most especially, as evident by the fact that I'm bothering to post on this board, because I prefer a pairing other than the normal SxS, and this makes it a lot easier to imagine. :D (I'm a terrible person) I don't think 217 was up yet when Saphira posted that, though, and CLAMP did have us all believing right to the end. They're evil in that way. (If you’re not there yet stop reading now) If you think about it though, the Sakura from CCS did play a bit of an important role, though, if she hadn't contacted Syaoran’s mom, who knows how or even if the story would have been able to play out. Food for thought :) |
0o Moon Calf o0Alright, now we've got to revoke what we just said on those last 2 posts :P. Chapter 220 says CCS is involved--in a major way! Typical CLAMP... |
saphirablossomChapter 220 says CCS is involved--in a major way! Typical CLAMP... To me, Chapter 220 can only be defined as one thing right now, as far as CCS is concerned: it's the major plot twist in Tsubasa, seriously! Honestly, I don't think anybody was actually expecting that, and I pretty much agree with Moon, since at this point it's impossible to deny that CLAMP just loves throwing these unbelievable plot twists at us! I don't know about you, but I always get this feeling with Tsubasa, that every time you think you've finally grasped the story and intricate plot points, CLAMP just throws you something new that leaves us all shocked. O.O I won't mention any major spoilers, but I think that CLAMP's 2 big revelations both explain certain things in CCS, and also don't fit at the same time. For example, they seem to fit rather nicely with Clow's highly peculiar death circumstances and why he left all his powers and legacy to Sakura specifically. Though what doesn't fit is Yuuko's apparent non-presence in CCS (which is quite normal since CLAMP most likely hadn't created her yet), and the fact that Clow reincarnated as Eriol and Fujitaka. How could he have split his soul, and still accomplished what he supposedly did? Of course, I'm probably thinking too much about it! XD But that surprised me an awful lot, and I really didn't like Yuuko's answer to Sakura's question. Yuuko is probably my favorite character in xxxHolic, and I don't want CLAMP to get any ideas, even though at this point it seems to be an inevitable conclusion... T.T |
0o Moon Calf o0Yuuko is probably my favorite character in xxxHolic, and I don't want CLAMP to get any ideas Gosh I really hope they don't make the whole thing ClowxYuuko! That would be about the worst day ever for me! I've been behind CxY forever; if they cut that thing down to one-sided I'll be so mad! :P personally I commented to a friend of mine the other day, perhaps the next twist will be Clow made out as the stereotypical 'pimp' with a lover for each universe. You're right though, Saphira, not everything so far does fit, and I imagine CLAMP will blow us all away again. Just gotta wait and see. Considering my curent work in progress fic-wise is both a past fic and a CxY fic... I do hope CLAMP gets it together soon, though. I don't wanna end up AU! *pouts like a small child* |
Convoy ButterflyPrepare to be disappointed, then, because Clow/Yuuko is confirmed canon. And after how that turned out for Clow, it's hard to see him loving anyone else, in case they turned out the same way. (What happened is very spoilery, though, so not saying it in a thread; PM for detailed spoilers.) |
saphirablossomI imagine CLAMP will blow us all away again. I hope they will! Tsubasa truly is too much of a great series to be carelessly thrown away 'to the dumps' or so to speak. Really, sometimes I wonder whether they had this entire plot planned out from the start, or if they're making it up along the way... XD But then again, it's CLAMP we're talking about, so they must have some sort of coherency! Still, I was sourly (read: extremely) disappointed when I read the latest xxxHolic chapter. I suppose given what Yuuko revealed in Tsubasa, it was unavoidable, but still, Yuuko is one of my favorite characters in both series, and I really didn't want her to, well, you know... T.T I also have a feeling that CLAMP is going to end Tsubasa in an almost all-CCS universe. In other words, they might turn Tsubasa into a CCS sequel (which it technically is) and bring closure to that universe all-together, concluding that CCS/Tsubasa/xxxHolic was all just one big story told from different times and points of view. Am I the only one with that feeling? As a side note, has anyone else noticed that as time passes, Kurogane and Fai are getting more and more ignored, and thrown back to the status of supporting characters? Well, considering the current take of the story, that's not surprising, but Fai being another favorite character, I believe they have a greater role to play... Thoughts? |
0o Moon Calf o0ClowxYuuko is confirmed cannon When did they say that, in xxxHolic (haven't read that one yet)? Because they haven’t mentioned what their relationship was as of yet in Tsubasa. (Still in favor of ClowxYue, and willing to call the man an inter-dimensional pimp :) ) they might turn Tsubasa into a CCS sequel Well, I don't know about that. CLAMP is trying so far to keep the two almost entirely separate—whilst making their readers think otherwise of course. And as far as sequels go, all we've seen of CCS Sakura is her still in her junior high uniform like the end of CCS, not much of a leap into the future at all really. They might hint at what's happened in that universe [Or rather what will] slightly, but I doubt they'll give us much more than that. Oh and, don't worry about Fai and Kurogane, they're just slightly ignored right now because the clones have center stage (and there's a battle raging). I think they're only as ignored as everyone else at the moment; they'll get their moment again. | #35 Jun 04th, 8:04am . Edited Jun 04th, 8:04am

Convoy ButterflyClow/Yuuko is about as canon as CLAMP gets without saying "I love you". Showing rather than telling, Clow's magic acting on his wishes probably means that he felt more strongly for Yuuko than any other living person. |
cullen4ever96hmm...the YxS is very probable...i mean if your only mission on earth is to protect a certain person against anything and everything of course you are gonna develop a certain bond with that person...YxS is one of my favorite noncannon parirings aside of TomoyoxEriol... |
